Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Sorry to hear that. Thank you for running it!

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia lets out a startled, and disgusted, expression as the spiders come into the room. She'll target one of them (not on Zilroy) with a blast of cold.

elemental ray rgd touch (1d20+3=23, 1d6+1=2)

crit confirm (1d20+3=15, 1d6+1=3)

Hmm ... nice to see a crit, but almost minimum damage all the way around...

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Following the others, Rynia is slightly startled by the dog's growl. Was he here the whole time? she muses.

"So, follow the goblin tracks?" she asks no one in particular.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Seeing that the stone rooms continue into the darkness, and that the rest of the group seems to be dead set on continuing, Rybia shivers a bit, but not from cold. Great, what did I get myself into? she thinks. She briefly says a few arcane words that sound almost like ice cracking, and a thin sheen of frost seems to form on her skin. Amazingly, it does not melt. Cast mage armor.

JR, Rynia is all updated for the core rules. Only real major change I made was elimination of her rapier, as I lost proficiency. Never used it anyway, so easy to retcon out.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Odd, sense of humor that guy has. Not sure how anyone could insult someone who's died, Rynia thinks, frowning a bit.

"Right. No big deal; it's just someone who was murdered, after all. Probably picking mushrooms in someone else's fungus farm, and the other person got even. You know how violent the mushroom trade is, after all," she says, with all obvious sarcasm and irritation.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"Whoever he was, he was from one of the noble houses ... I mean, I think he was from one of the noble houses. Not that I know any of 'em well, but I think he could have been from House Dallimothan. But I could be wrong." Most of the others can tell that Rynia seems a little nervous here, almost like she gave out too much information ...

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia gasps as she sees the body. "Oh dear ... Miasshirra, can you tell who that might be? Is there anything that would identify that person?"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia quietly mutters, "Uggh. I hate mushrooms. Even in a good venison stew. They taste and spell like dirt ... or horse dung." She hangs nearer the back, content to let the others through the hole first (assuming everyone goes through).

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia wrinkles her nose a bit. "We really need to go down there, do we? Not exactly my idea of a good time ... I'll bet it smells even worse than here, too."

She quietly speaks a few words, and a strong scent of lilac can be smelled. "This should help a bit, I think." Casts prestidigitation to strengthen her perfume a bit, to keep the odors at bay.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Okey dokey, Rynia's all up to level 2 ...

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia takes the money, and gives Father Fabitor a broad smile. "Thanks, Father. Not bad for only being in town a few days."

Turning to the rest, she says, "So, shall we go check the rest of the place out?"

JR, remind me, how are we doing hit points?

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia's face scruches up a bit, a little grossed out by Gallows picking at whatever's under his eyepatch. "Yeah, maybe we should go back and give that house a thorough search."

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"Before we go see Father Fabitor, though, does anyone else think these guys're too dumb to think of this on their own? Have you asked 'em if anyone put 'em up to this, Tusker?"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"Hey, I'm as game as the next person for getting even with someone, but these guys haven't hurt anyone. Turning 'em over to the people outside might be a punishment that doesn't fit the crime, you know? It was Father Fabitor that wanted us to figure this out, maybe we turn 'em over to him?"

She turns to Tusker, "So, you think they're telling the truth?"

With only a couple of well placed frost rays, Rynia substantially subdues the fire.

She'll make sure it's completely out before turning back to the group. "I swear to Lothian, if I have to fight one more fire, the individual who caused it will be picking ice shards out of their underwear!" She'll let the others try and question our captives, for now, as she doesn't speak the goblin's language.

Just a mental reminder to not get caught up in her own magic and for the others not to be distracted by her magical display. It was meant for the goblins, not you and your companions. I thought I was being poetic *grin*

No problem; I liked the touch.

Is this where we resurrect the Use Rope skill?

A dazzling array of color shoots from Rynia's fingers. The colors seem to dance and sparkle, as if they are magic strings attached to the tips of her fingers, and she is playing a musical instrument of sight floating in the air. A small voice in the back of your head whispers "This isn't for you."

You shake your head and immediately regain focus.

The few goblins that awake from their wine induced coma are easily enamored by the colorful display. The lithe, feline woman bounds them easily and the rest of you are pleased to see all goblins in the front bedroom subdued, without shedding a drop of blood.

You hear noises from the back bedroom, sounding of some of the goblins in there are stirring. You hear soft, frightened gurgles and grunts.

Shaking her head a bit, not sure where the voice came from, Rynia turns to face down the hallway, ready to unleash another spell if the goblins burst from the room.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Screw it, Rynia thinks. She quickly positions herself to catch all of the goblins in the cone of effect. Holding her arm out, her eyes turn milky white as she intones a few instinctive words. A brilliant, shining burst of ice crystals flys from her outstretched hand, enveloping the small creatures.

Cast color spray DC 14.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia looks to Miasshirra. "Do you want me to hit 'em first, or do you want to try to tie 'em up with out waking 'em?"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"I can be of some help in this," Rynia says. "One of my little 'tricks' is being able to fire off a burst of very-sparkly ice crystals and cold (color spray). Usually either knocks out or stuns people who get in the way. I can stand in the doorway while you tie 'em up; if they wake up, I can let the ice fly."

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia grows pale as she sees Miasshirra draw the knives. "Wait ... " she whispers. "They haven't hurt anyone, as far as we've heard! Why're you gonna kill 'em without at least finding out what they're doing here? Shouldn't we catch 'em, and let the watch deal with them?"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"Guess it was a good thing we didn't call out, after all," Rynia whispers.

"This does not feel like a crypt," murmurs Tusker quietly as the group moves forward. "More like... a nest."

"Nest? You don't see signs of an animal or beast, do you?" Rynia's mind flashes back to her journey back to Ptolus, and the night she wasn't able to reach an Inn before nightfall. She still heard the wolf calls in her mind ...

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"Can anyone tell if this is several people, or just one person who has used it many times? I don't really have that kind of experience."

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Though nothing really looks like it would be, Rynia will step back a bit and quietly cast detect magic, looking over the contents of the room. Doesn't hurt to check, she reasons.

After checking, Rynia kicks a piece of moldy cheese. "Well, I think we've confirmed it's not a ghost. Footprints, garbage, old food. Unless anyone has heard of a pickle-eating spirit?" She quiets for a second, then says to everyone, "Why don't we just call out for whoever it is to show themselves? They gotta know we're here, and we know that they're probably here hiding. Why beat around the bush? Our mystery person hasn't hurt anyone (as far as we've heard); maybe they'd be willing to talk."

Gallows takes as much in as he can with his good eye and says little. He takes up a position near the other door, taking a moment to press his ear to it and listen.

"Are you all right, Ms. Rynia? Perhaps the ghost is starting with mild inconveniences in order to build tension, hence your unfortunate toe. Watch your ears; it may know the Wet Willie."

Rynia frowns a bit at the teasing. Not knowing Gallows well enough, she couldn't be sure if he was being good-natured or not. Besides, she was a bit embarrassed at her clumsiness. "I'm fine, thank you."

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

The smell and dust blur Rynia's sight. Unable to even perceive much of the furniture, she stumbles over the table and stubs her toe.

perception (1d20=3)

"Ouch!" Rubbing her eyes, she takes in the room.

Hey, Cad waited for another suggestion. None was forthcoming so he took the most direct route. :)

Don't take offense! :-) I'm just trying to play Rynia like a sarcastic, eye-rolling 18 year old; it's not a commentary on anyone!

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia watches everyone go right in the front door. Right. We wouldn't want to check around for other entrances or anything like that. Shrugging, she follows Miasshirra into the house.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"The ghosts had ... a smell? That seems kinda weird." Rynia looks to the others, especially Zilroy and Gallows. "You guys ever heard of that? Maybe these aren't ghosts. Maybe these're zombies... or worse!"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia decides to let Zilroy and Cadwyn handle the questioning. The woman seemed like the pious type, and she may respond better to the priest and warrior than to herself; Rynia looked a tad younger than even her 18 years, after all.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia looks up at the dilapidated building, and uncharacteristically shudders. Why not just let the ghosts have the place? Not like anyone's living here, she thinks.

Rynia looks around for the woman who was in the pew at St. Gustav's, hoping to ask a few questions before barging in to this place.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia mutters a quiet "thanks" to Father Fabitor and pockets the vials of holy water and the potion. She stands back a bit, listening to Miasshirra's new information.

Yarag of House Rau wrote:

This guy is really 'Mr. Friendly', all right. Still don't think he ever introduced himself to me ... Rynia thinks.

But hey, if you know her, you ought to come back tomorrow morning with me; the others may want to meet you, too! Anyway, we talk more over a few drinks. You're welcome to come, too, if you want, Tusker."

After a night of fun ...

In all the excitement, I was certainly not the gentleman that I should have been. My Lord, My Lady, I am Cadwyn."

He gives a quick semi-formal bow to the two.

"Now, we are strangers no more, and I hope to call you friends." He turns his attention back to the Father.

"Now Father, is there any other pertinent information we should be aware of? I take it from the gift of the holy water, for which I thank you, that you are expecting some trouble. Have you any idea what we may be facing?"

"Hey, don't worry about it Caddy ... hmmm ... 'Caddy' ... maybe I'll stick with Cadwyn. You probably like that better, anyway, am I right? I brought Miashirra back here with me; she knows that Phon Quartermaine the other were talking about. Figured they may wanna meet her, and she could probably help out."

"No, it's okay. Actually," Miasshirra giggles a little as she takes your hand, "I've never seen anyone quite like me either. My name's Miasshirra. Um, are you people Delvers? I came to this city because I heard you could make a lot of money, but I don't know anyone here. I know I don't look like it right now," Miasshirra indicates her brightly-colored dress, "but I'm pretty reliable."

Thanks, Rynia.

"Delvers? I think 'Ghost Hunters' seems to be the more likely. I've been in town since this morning, actually. I saw the fire these guys were trying to put out, and ... I dunno, just decided to help. After that, I kinda tagged along since I didn't really have anything better planned. 'Course, now they're looking to go after some ghosts that Father Fabitor asked 'em to. Guess I'll go along again, but they aren't meeting until tomorrow morning. Spirits being stronger at night, and all that. What are you doing now? I was gonna head to the Minstrel for a room and a drink or three; a friend would certainly be welcome."

Tusker Tall wrote:

Rynia appraises the half-orc, then shakes his hand. "Rynia. Can't say I've known any half-orcs before, either. You seem to have a way with dogs, Tusker."

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia watches the others file out without much fanfare. Hmphh. Friendly bunch I've attached myself to. She starts to walk out herself, intending on heading to the Ghostly Minstrel after all, but as she passes the unusual elf-cat, something makes her stop.

"Sorry to interupt, and I don't mean to be rude, but I've never seen anyone quite like you. Mind if I ask your name and where you're from? I'm Rynia," she says to Miasshirra, extending her hand.

"Yeah, morning. That's a good idea," Rynia whispers quietly, just loud enough for whoever stands next to her to hear.

Rynia now really hears the task before her for the first time. Ghosts?! Wow, what did I get myself into?

"Well, it probably beats whatever else I had planned for tonight. And honestly, I could probably use the work, too. My purse'll be empty soon enough, otherwise."

After Miasshira comes in, Rynia is a little curious as she notices the odd-looking woman. Speaking to the group, she points to the new arrival and says, "This sure is a busy place in the evening. I think most taverns would call this a good crowd!"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia hangs back a bit, as the four talk with Father Fabitor, listening to what's going on. She'll stand near Cadwyn, who she looks at as being another 'new kid' in the group. As she gets a little bored, she'll start looking around the chapel, then eventually whisper to Cadwyn, "So, do you know this Phon Quartermain too? Or are you just starting to piece things together like me?"

"Um, no ... I can't say I have. I've only been in Ptolus since this morning, to be honest." Another priest? Not exactly the evening I had planned ... Knowing her words are a bit misleading, Rynia won't correct anyone who assumes she's new to the city.

Cadwin Tallis wrote:

Not having yet spoken to either of the other two, Rynia will then proceed to introduce herself to Tusker and Yarag.

Well, an odd bunch, and maybe a bit religious for my tatses, but they certainly seem interesting. Maybe I'll stick around 'em for tonight, and see what happens.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

"Shouldn't you ... do something with him? You're not just gonna leave him there, are you?"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia notices the corpse on the ground for the first time after Gallows kicks it, and visibly blanches at the sight of it. "He's ... he's dead? Wh ... why did you kill him if he had information?"

Ensuring that the watchmen are out of sight, Rynia pulls back her cloak a little. She forces a smile, and extends her hand. "Pleased to meet you, Brother Zilroy and Brother ...? My name is Rynia."

Great. I spend years getting lectured on behavior by priests brought over by my parents. I get sent to a school where I STILL get lectured by clergy on a daily basis. I finally get away, head back to Ptolus on my own, and what happens? I run into not one, but TWO priests. Fabulous. 'Course, the younger one would be kind of cute if it wasn't for that scar and eyepatch ...

"Wasn't a big deal to help. To be honest, I just don't seem to like fire much. Almost like I HAVE to put 'em out, you know?"

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Seeing the watch approach the group of people who stood around arguing the whole time the fire was burning, Rynia instinctively turns her face away from them.

Damn! I think that one sergeant knows me ... brought me home in manacles after he caught me that one time ... this is what you get for trying to help, trying to be a hero, Rynia! Dumb, dumb, dumb!

While she continues to pepper the flames with her frost rays, Rynia pulls her cloak's hood tighter over her face, hoping to avoid notice.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)

Rynia walked through the streets of Midtown, her heavy cloak pulled tightly around her. She did this not because she was overly cold; the chill night was actually rather pleasant to her. Rather, it was her attempt to keep anyone she passed by from recognizing her. Only having been back in Ptolus since this morning, Rynia had no desire for her family to know she was back (at least not yet). Her current goals included making her way to the Ghostly Minstrel in Delver’s Square for a room, meal, and maybe some drinks and fun (and not necessarily in that order). Hopefully, tomorrow she could peruse the postings and come up with some sort of employment, preferably something fun and well-paying.

Her quick stroll and thoughts were interrupted as she got nearer to Nar Street. The unmistakable smell of smoke, and the red-yellow glow in the air told her the obvious: a fire had broken out. Rynia quickened her pace, heading towards the scene of the conflagration and dodging panicking people. Hey, at least my night got more interesting, she thought. Nearing the burning building, she saw that a strong-looking man with a blonde pony-tail was busy organizing folk into a bucket brigade.

Hmm, carry buckets of sloshing water and soak my clothes? I think not. Besides, I can help in other ways. Rynia got a little closer to the fire, wincing at the heat. Concentrating, she pointed her hand at the flames, and a thin stream of ice and frost shot towards them, extinguishing a small section. A smile crossed her lips as she repeated the process; for some reason, putting out the flames brought a great deal of joy to her.

Female Human Sorcerer 2 (Elemental Water)
