Everyone, apologies for my absence. I am completely healthy and ready to jump back in the game tonight.

Khala's harpoon and Selina's sword strike hit the commando, inflicting 16 damage. However, the goblin is a tough little soldier, and he still lives.

Round 1: Goblin Commando and Goblin dog

The severely wounded commando, barely conscious, pulls on the reins of his goblin dog and the pair sprint out of sight behind the nearby building to the east. As he is sprinting away on his mount, the goblin yells out to the goblin warriors, "Kill them!"

Valthrik and Riuzi are up.

Thank you for the kind words.

Hey all, I've been recovering from non-Covid illness. I will update thread tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

Khala and Selina, you find in total 3 vials of Lesser Alchemists Fire on the goblin corpses.

As you follow the sounds of battle and screams, you catch the sight of corpses of villagers and goblins alike throughout Sandpoint. You see wounded soldiers also on the ground being tended to, while villagers cower in buildings. You bravely stride through the town until you reach the scene of battle.

Just east of the White Deer, near Sandpoint’s north gate, a goblin commando mounted on a goblin dog has bravely attacked a human noble and his hunting dog. The man cowers behind a rain barrel where he calls for help, while his dog fights against the commando. As you arrive on the scene, you’re just in time to see the goblin commando kill the dog with his horsechopper. The dog crashes dying to the ground as the commando’s three goblin kin (who were themselves cowering nearby as the dog was handled) throw up a cheer and emerge from hiding.

The dark-haired noble sees your band approaching and calls out, "Please help me!"

Initiative:
Goblin commando: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Goblins: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Honey: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Khala: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Riuzi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Selina: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Valthrik: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Order: Khala, Selina, Goblin Commando, Valthrik, Riuzi, Goblins, Honey.

The goblin warchanter collapses dead to the ground under the team's assault. As you look around, the wounded guards and soldiers seem to be tending to the wounded villagers. As you have a few seconds to yourselves, you realize you may wish to tend to your own wounds. A few seconds later, you hear screams from the further north in the village, as it seems that the church plaza was not the only target of the goblin attack on Sandpoint.

Game terms: You have 2 rounds to heal yourselves/do other things before the next event. Let me know what you do before you investigate the screams.

Slides

I moved you, Khala. You removed all of his healing with one blow!

Slides

Goblin Reflex save: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14..fails.
The goblin bard is electrocuted by Valthrik's spell and is sliced by Selina's blade. He is barely alive. He moves back, hoping Selina cannot attack, which she cannot, and he casts Soothe on himself, regaining 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 hps. He is down 1 hp.

Party is up.

Slides

Khava's 2 swings bring down one of the pyro goblins in a bloody mess.
Riuzi's critical kills the other pyro, beheading him, leaving only the warchanter.
Honey's phase bolt barely misses the warchanter.
Selina and Valthrik are up.

Slides

Khala, the enemies are color coded by their borders: Red and Orange are the goblin pyros, while the blue one is the goblin warchanter.

Round 1: Goblins

Seeing Khala's harpoon land near them, the goblins notice the approaching war band of party members racing toward them! These goblins look tougher than the initial wave that you disposed of rather quickly.

Goblin Warchanter:
As his first action, the goblin sings, trying to impose a magical effect on Tiuzi and Khala.

Performance check vs. both character's Wil DCs: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Regular success only, both Riuzi and Khala have -1 status penalty to Perception checks and Will saves for 1 round.

For his 2nd and 3rd actions, the warchanter casts Bless on himself and his 2 allies, granting +1 status bonus to attack rolls.

Goblin Pyros: Red
The red pyro goblin strides, yelling "Burn, burn, longshanks!" and casts Burning Hands catching Riuzi, Valthrik, and Khala in the cone of fire!
DC 16 Reflex save or take 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 fire damage. Success means 1/2 damage. If you roll a DC 26 DC then you take no damage.

Goblin Pyros: Orange
The orange goblin strides and casts a spell, producing a small ball of fire in the palm of his hand and he then launches it at Khala! "Burn female giant, burn!" The nimble barbarian dodges the ball of fire. The orange goblin curses, "How I miss?!"

Ranged attack roll: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 1 = 15...miss!

Party is up. Do not forget Reflex rolls.

I will update thread tonight - tried logging on Saturday night but site was down.

Riuzi has been silent but will move on...

As you look for dangers and help the wounded, suddenly screams from the NE catch your attention, as you hear villagers running west, shouting, "Fire! Fire! Damn goblins are trying to set fire to the town!"

The party rushes to the NE as the villagers flee. You see two goblins throwing alchemist's flasks on a nearby store, while a chanter continues the goblin song in glee.

The goblins see you approaching, in contrast to everyone running away, and they turn violent!

Initiative:
Goblin Pyros: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Goblin warchanter: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Honey: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Khala: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Riuzi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Selina: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Valthrik: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Order: Party, then goblins.

Map updated.

Summary of Round 2 so far:
Will use Khala's attack and damage roll from Round 1 - not fair to not do so.
Green goblin is cut down and dies.
Riuzi's attack, no matter against whom, misses.
Selina moves gracefully across the battlefield and her dueling sword ends the blue goblin's life.
Yellow goblin Reflex DC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Pink goblin Reflex DC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Valthrik's spell causes lightning to strike both goblins, who are caught by surprise and fail to dodge. Smoke smolders off their charring corpses as they die.
Combat over!

There is a scene of chaos all around - what you do for the next minute?

Slides

I like it. :)

Slides

Khala, I do not believe that you were walking all this time around town with a harpoon in your hand, so in PF2e, it is an action to draw a weapon, so no attack this round. Riuzi, you can draw the shield but not raise it.

Round 1: Goblins

Excited and gleeful, two of the goblins continue singing their song as they run to a nearby stall/cart and start stuffing their pockets with food and bread.

The green goblin sees the Tengu and cackles, "Ooh, a talking bird. Thinks I'll skin ya!" The goblin moves next to Riuzi and nicks the Tengu with his first attack but misses the second. 1 point of damage.

◆ Stride ◆ Attack ◆ Attack
Dogslicer vs. Ruizi: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17..hit
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Dogslicer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11..miss

The blue goblin moves north into the crowd and starts swinging its dogslicer into crowd, cackling with glee! It hits a woman, and she collapses to the ground dead! It swings again and a peasant yells in pain from the serious wound!

◆ Stride ◆ Attack ◆ Attack
Dogslicer: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24..hit
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Dogslicer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12..hit
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

The scene around you erupts in chaos as goblins are all over!
Party is up!

Riuzi, please update the Race/Class tabs with the pertinent information, as everyone else has done. Thanks.

Good food and good company make the time fly by, as you pass the time people watching and enjoying the simple life in Sandpoint. Before you know it, the sun begins to set. A sharp retort, like the crack of distant thunder, slices through the excited crowd as the sun’s setting rays paint the western sky. A stray dog that has crawled under a nearby wagon to sleep starts awake, and the buzz of two dozen conversations quickly hushes as all heads turn toward the central podium, where a beaming Father Zantus has taken the stage. He clears his throat, takes a breath to speak. "Please bow your heads, let us recite the Prayer of First Dreaming."

As you close your eyes. suddenly a woman’s scream slices through the air. A few moments later, another scream rises, then another. Beyond them, a sudden surge of strange new voices rises—high-pitched, tittering shrieks that sound not quite human. The crowd parts and something low to the ground races by, giggling with disturbing glee as the stray dog gives a pained yelp and then collapses with a gurgle, its throat cut open from ear to ear. As blood pools around its head, the raucous sound of a strange song begins, chanted from shrill, scratchy voices.

"Goblins chew and goblins bite.
Goblins cut and goblins fight.
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!
Goblins race and goblins jump
Goblins slash and goblins bump.
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!
Bonk the head to shut it up.
Chase the baby, catch the pup.
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We be goblins! You be food!"

A wave of goblins attacks the crowd in the square, as the villagers erupt in screams. You see guards and villagers take to defending the town. To the SE, nearest to you, are a pack of 4 goblins, each wielding a dogslicer licking the blood from the blade, as bodies lay on the floor! They are looking eagerly to slay more villagers.

Initiative:
Goblins: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Honey: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Khala: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Riuzi: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Selina: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Valthrik: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Order: The party, then the goblins.

The enemies are color coded by their border. Map is in the slide and has been updated.

Slides

You can continue the rp during lunch but will advance the story.

You walk through the stalls and before you know it, it is close to noon. Father Zantus, priest of Desna, and his acolytes wheel a large-covered wagon into the square. At noon, he calls the crowd's attention, and recounts the short parable of how Desna first fell to earth and was nursed back to health by a blind child whom she transformed into an immortal butterfly as a reward for her aid. He then raises his hand as a signal and the acolytes pull aside the wagon’s cover, releasing the thousand children of Desna—a furious storm of swallowtail butterflies that swarm into the air in a spiraling riot of color to a great cheer from the crowd.

Children in the crowd futilely chase butterflies, never quite quick enough to catch them, to everyone's delight.

Lunch is provided free, at the expense of Sandpoint’s taverns. Each brings its best dishes—this event is as much a marketing push by the taverns to win new customers. It soon becomes apparent that the darling of the lunch is, once again, Ameiko Kaijitsu, whose remarkable curry-spiced salmon and early winterdrop mead easily overshadow the other offerings, such as the Hagfish’s lobster chowder or the White Deer’s peppercorn venison.

You can describe in general what you do between 1 pm and 6 pm.

Slides

Yeah, thanks. Since it's a holiday weekend in USA, I was out of town but I am back.

Some in the crowd laugh and smirk at Selina comments. However, Garridan laught it off. "Paying women for it is really the only thing you ladies is good for anyway." He flexes for the crowd and moves over to the weights and lifts them with ease and style.

Garridan Athletics check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

Garridan chants over and over, "Three-time champion!"

The half-orc's Athletics check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Garridan wins, with Gorvi in 2nd place, and Khala in 3rd. After the competition, the crowd disperses to see other events. Khala gets congratulations for being new and reaching the final round.

Secret rolls:

Khala: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 - passes to Round 2
Khala: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 - passes to Round 3

Khala participates in the weight-lifting category with some of the stronger farmers and residents of the town. Khala passes through the first 2 rounds rather easily, as everyone is impressed with her strength. She reaches the finals against Garridan Viskalai, a Shoanti mountain of a man and brother to the Sheriff, and Gorvi, the local half-orc dung sweeper. The latter smells quite foul.

Garridan looks at the competition and laughs, while addressing the crowd. "Don't these fools know I've won the competition 2 years in a row?! They don't stand a chance. And that one, the woman, she should be home heating up a plate of food for one of us strong hard-working men, rather than gettin' dirty in the grime." A couple of inebriated farmers agree with Garridan's chauvinistic comments and laugh.

Roll an Athletics check, Khala.

Numerous games and contests take place during the day, including sack races, games of hide-and-seek, weight-lifting challenges, balance beam contests, tug-of-war events, dagger throwing, and the like. The town's residents eagerly form crowds around the events, as the locals partake of the contests and the winners get to earn bragging rights for the year. Do any of the party members wish to partake of the contests?

2nd day of Rova 4707 AR - Autumnal Equinox

The whole town of Sandpoint has been abuzz for weeks in anticipation of the first day of autumn. Eager to put the tragedies of the Late Unpleasantness behind them, it seemed that one couldn't go anywhere in town without somebody talking about the Swallowtail Festival held in honor of Desna and the long-awaited consecration of the new cathedral.

The Late Unpleasantness, as the locals in Sandpoint refer to it, was a series of violent and tragic events which shook the normally peaceful coastal town in the year 4702 AR. A serial killer named Chopper killed 26 people over the course of a month, including the prior Sheriff, and displayed the remains of his victim on an altar to a bird-like god. Later that same year, a large fire claimed some lives, most notably that of Father Tobyn, and the Sandpoint Chapel was destroyed in the process, while also destroying in part some other buildings.

For five years, the faithful of Sandpoint have attended church in smaller wooden structures rebuilt after fire destroyed the previous temple, and while their new pastor Father Zantus was helpful, kind, and wise, church wasn’t the same. Now, the new cathedral is finally done. All that remains is for the Swallowtail Festival to renew the site’s blessings from the gods and it will be as if the Sandpoint Fire had never occurred.

The Swallowtail Festival begins promptly, as scheduled, with weather that is cool and clear, signaling the arrival of fall. The square before the cathedral quickly becomes crowded as locals and travelers arrive, and several merchant tents featuring food, clothes, local crafts, and souvenirs are there to meet them.

Ok, a couple questions:

1. I'd like to drop Void Warp from Malhyn's spellbook and add telekinetic projectile instead if that's ok. I sort of noticed a theme in his spell choices and that seemed appropriate.

2. Since Honey has such a well developed and skilled flying familiar, and mine is much smaller and with fewer abilities, would it make more sense for the story and to keep hers "special" for Valthrik to take something else?

3. I originally had Valthrik learn Amurrun because it seemed likely we'd have at least one of the cat-folk around. Since we do not, would you mind if I changed it to Tengu instead?

1. Sure.

2. Sure, you can opt out of the improved familiar route.
3. Sure.

Riuzi Rik-Tuk wrote:

DM, do you have a preference for how we keep our character sheets?

For now I've linked mine in Pathbuilder on my profile, which is convenient for me...but let us know if you prefer something else.

And everyone, I'll be reading your backstories in more detail in the next day or two. Feel free to propose connections (knowing each other...not knowing each other but having an NPC in common...something more complicated...) I'm happy to tweak if we see interesting opportunties.

Hmmmm, after looking a bit, I was torn between Scroll Thaumaturgy and Diverse Lore. I went with the latter initially but with two INT +4 characters in the party, maybe it's redundant so I'll swap to Scroll Thaumaturgy. I've also finished up my purchases (with a whopping 2 CP left to my name, plus 1 wk of rations).

Oh and Honey/Ollie, I LOVE your drawings of Honey, and love that you drew them yourself! Maybe I'll try my hand at my own drawing of Riuzi some day.

- - - EDIT - - -

I might as well say a bit more about what to expect from Riuzi (as best as I can tell; I'm still fairly new to 2e). Riuzi Rik-Tuk is a Tengu Thaumaturge, with intent to take Harrower for his Free Archetype
His implement is The Tome (which, in his case, is a pack of old harrow cards).

Future archetype: Harrower
Party roles:
* Secondary martial (melee/switch hitter, reasonable damage, somewhat squishy)
* Can use Esoteric Lore (+7) to Recall Knowledge regarding haunts, curses, and creatures of any type
* Good Face skills (Deception Diplomacy, Intimidate) +6
* Ability to choose +2 skills / day to be trained in as well, as needed...which could even be Lore skills we think will be relevant the next day.
* Able to cast any scroll (thanks to Scroll Thaumaturgy)

I expect to be a bit of a support build as well, including buffing folks with the Harrower archetype, eventually.

I don't have any healing, other than the ability to use healing scrolls (which might be worth him carrying, at some point).

I would prefer if everyone formats their Race/Class tabs like Khala has done so it makes my job easier without having to click on your avatars.

One question Runelord - can I swap out Khala's scale mail for niyahaat? It costs 1 gp more, but is way more bone-people themed, and has essentially the same exact attributes except confers less of a penalty when it has the broken condition...

Yeah, sure. The bone armor is more appropriate for a barbarian. :)

I am sticking with alignments to have a general idea of a character’s morality and each deity’s outlook.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Then no issue with Lantern King.

I don’t know if I’ll hit all the questions:
The uncommon races are viewed as oddities especially in Sandpoint, where 96% is human.
I will pick the character concepts that most appeal to me but a cleric can be vital especially when enemies deal 20 or more damage per hit.
If the Lantern King is evil, I have issues with that as a deity.

For the curious, Recruitment will close on Sunday, January 7th at 6:00 PM EST. You have plenty of time.

There are 2 wizards in Sandpoint: a gnome wizard named VEZNUTT PAROOH, proprietor of the Way North, a local repository of maps, and a human wizard named ILSOARI GANDETHUS, headmaster of the Turandarok Academy, part orphanage, part school. The latter is higher level, if that matters.

Hello all! Oddly enough, though RotRL is the first of Paizo's APs, has been out for years, and is one of the most popular APs, I have never GMed it to completion. In RL, in 1E, I GMed a game to Book 3 before the party suffered a TPK. Thus, I got the bright idea to GM it on the boards in 2E style. I am enjoying the system, the 3-action economy, etc. I am no expert on PF2e by any means and appreciate player input. I hope some of you will agree to give it a chance. I will try and keep the story fresh with some surprises as there is a ton of community added content to enhance the original storyline and events.

Expectations from players: At least 1 post a day. Do not apply if you plan on disappearing for long periods of time. I do not expect to start this until after the New Year.
Submissions, character creation, and party: Please let me know what your character motivations/ideals/beliefs are and your connection to Sandpoint, if any. Tell me how you see your character's progression and role in the party. A basic stat block with skills, ancestry, background, and feats without specifics of equipment other than armor/weapon is sufficient. I am very influenced by a character's appearance so I can properly present NPC reactions to your character.

Races: Common and Catfolk, Kobold, Leshy, Ratfolk, and Tengu are allowed. No uncommon versatile heritages.
Classes: All except kineticist, psychic and summoner.
Backgrounds: The RotRL backgrounds, IMO, are not good (except maybe 1 or 2), so feel free to choose any from the Archives of Nethys. Just make sure to explain the logical tie-in to the background chosen in your character submission.

Free archetype at level 2.
Milestone leveling.
15 gp.

Any questions, please let me know.
