Khala's harpoon and Selina's sword strike hit the commando, inflicting 16 damage. However, the goblin is a tough little soldier, and he still lives. Round 1: Goblin Commando and Goblin dog The severely wounded commando, barely conscious, pulls on the reins of his goblin dog and the pair sprint out of sight behind the nearby building to the east. As he is sprinting away on his mount, the goblin yells out to the goblin warriors, "Kill them!" Valthrik and Riuzi are up.

Hey all, I've been recovering from non-Covid illness. I will update thread tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.

Khala and Selina, you find in total 3 vials of Lesser Alchemists Fire on the goblin corpses. As you follow the sounds of battle and screams, you catch the sight of corpses of villagers and goblins alike throughout Sandpoint. You see wounded soldiers also on the ground being tended to, while villagers cower in buildings. You bravely stride through the town until you reach the scene of battle. Just east of the White Deer, near Sandpoint’s north gate, a goblin commando mounted on a goblin dog has bravely attacked a human noble and his hunting dog. The man cowers behind a rain barrel where he calls for help, while his dog fights against the commando. As you arrive on the scene, you’re just in time to see the goblin commando kill the dog with his horsechopper. The dog crashes dying to the ground as the commando’s three goblin kin (who were themselves cowering nearby as the dog was handled) throw up a cheer and emerge from hiding. The dark-haired noble sees your band approaching and calls out, "Please help me!" Initiative:

The goblin warchanter collapses dead to the ground under the team's assault. As you look around, the wounded guards and soldiers seem to be tending to the wounded villagers. As you have a few seconds to yourselves, you realize you may wish to tend to your own wounds. A few seconds later, you hear screams from the further north in the village, as it seems that the church plaza was not the only target of the goblin attack on Sandpoint. Game terms: You have 2 rounds to heal yourselves/do other things before the next event. Let me know what you do before you investigate the screams.

Khala, the enemies are color coded by their borders: Red and Orange are the goblin pyros, while the blue one is the goblin warchanter. Round 1: Goblins Seeing Khala's harpoon land near them, the goblins notice the approaching war band of party members racing toward them! These goblins look tougher than the initial wave that you disposed of rather quickly. Goblin Warchanter:
Performance check vs. both character's Wil DCs: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
For his 2nd and 3rd actions, the warchanter casts Bless on himself and his 2 allies, granting +1 status bonus to attack rolls. Goblin Pyros: Red
Goblin Pyros: Orange

Riuzi has been silent but will move on... As you look for dangers and help the wounded, suddenly screams from the NE catch your attention, as you hear villagers running west, shouting, "Fire! Fire! Damn goblins are trying to set fire to the town!" The party rushes to the NE as the villagers flee. You see two goblins throwing alchemist's flasks on a nearby store, while a chanter continues the goblin song in glee. The goblins see you approaching, in contrast to everyone running away, and they turn violent! Initiative:

Summary of Round 2 so far:
There is a scene of chaos all around - what you do for the next minute?
Slides
Khala, I do not believe that you were walking all this time around town with a harpoon in your hand, so in PF2e, it is an action to draw a weapon, so no attack this round. Riuzi, you can draw the shield but not raise it. Round 1: Goblins Excited and gleeful, two of the goblins continue singing their song as they run to a nearby stall/cart and start stuffing their pockets with food and bread. The green goblin sees the Tengu and cackles, "Ooh, a talking bird. Thinks I'll skin ya!" The goblin moves next to Riuzi and nicks the Tengu with his first attack but misses the second. 1 point of damage. ◆ Stride ◆ Attack ◆ Attack
The blue goblin moves north into the crowd and starts swinging its dogslicer into crowd, cackling with glee! It hits a woman, and she collapses to the ground dead! It swings again and a peasant yells in pain from the serious wound! ◆ Stride ◆ Attack ◆ Attack
The scene around you erupts in chaos as goblins are all over!

Good food and good company make the time fly by, as you pass the time people watching and enjoying the simple life in Sandpoint. Before you know it, the sun begins to set. A sharp retort, like the crack of distant thunder, slices through the excited crowd as the sun’s setting rays paint the western sky. A stray dog that has crawled under a nearby wagon to sleep starts awake, and the buzz of two dozen conversations quickly hushes as all heads turn toward the central podium, where a beaming Father Zantus has taken the stage. He clears his throat, takes a breath to speak. "Please bow your heads, let us recite the Prayer of First Dreaming." As you close your eyes. suddenly a woman’s scream slices through the air. A few moments later, another scream rises, then another. Beyond them, a sudden surge of strange new voices rises—high-pitched, tittering shrieks that sound not quite human. The crowd parts and something low to the ground races by, giggling with disturbing glee as the stray dog gives a pained yelp and then collapses with a gurgle, its throat cut open from ear to ear. As blood pools around its head, the raucous sound of a strange song begins, chanted from shrill, scratchy voices. "Goblins chew and goblins bite.
A wave of goblins attacks the crowd in the square, as the villagers erupt in screams. You see guards and villagers take to defending the town. To the SE, nearest to you, are a pack of 4 goblins, each wielding a dogslicer licking the blood from the blade, as bodies lay on the floor! They are looking eagerly to slay more villagers. Initiative:
The enemies are color coded by their border. Map is in the slide and has been updated.

You can continue the rp during lunch but will advance the story. You walk through the stalls and before you know it, it is close to noon. Father Zantus, priest of Desna, and his acolytes wheel a large-covered wagon into the square. At noon, he calls the crowd's attention, and recounts the short parable of how Desna first fell to earth and was nursed back to health by a blind child whom she transformed into an immortal butterfly as a reward for her aid. He then raises his hand as a signal and the acolytes pull aside the wagon’s cover, releasing the thousand children of Desna—a furious storm of swallowtail butterflies that swarm into the air in a spiraling riot of color to a great cheer from the crowd. Children in the crowd futilely chase butterflies, never quite quick enough to catch them, to everyone's delight. Lunch is provided free, at the expense of Sandpoint’s taverns. Each brings its best dishes—this event is as much a marketing push by the taverns to win new customers. It soon becomes apparent that the darling of the lunch is, once again, Ameiko Kaijitsu, whose remarkable curry-spiced salmon and early winterdrop mead easily overshadow the other offerings, such as the Hagfish’s lobster chowder or the White Deer’s peppercorn venison. You can describe in general what you do between 1 pm and 6 pm.

Some in the crowd laugh and smirk at Selina comments. However, Garridan laught it off. "Paying women for it is really the only thing you ladies is good for anyway." He flexes for the crowd and moves over to the weights and lifts them with ease and style. Garridan Athletics check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Garridan chants over and over, "Three-time champion!" The half-orc's Athletics check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 Garridan wins, with Gorvi in 2nd place, and Khala in 3rd. After the competition, the crowd disperses to see other events. Khala gets congratulations for being new and reaching the final round.

Secret rolls:
Khala: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 - passes to Round 2 Khala: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 - passes to Round 3 Khala participates in the weight-lifting category with some of the stronger farmers and residents of the town. Khala passes through the first 2 rounds rather easily, as everyone is impressed with her strength. She reaches the finals against Garridan Viskalai, a Shoanti mountain of a man and brother to the Sheriff, and Gorvi, the local half-orc dung sweeper. The latter smells quite foul. Garridan looks at the competition and laughs, while addressing the crowd. "Don't these fools know I've won the competition 2 years in a row?! They don't stand a chance. And that one, the woman, she should be home heating up a plate of food for one of us strong hard-working men, rather than gettin' dirty in the grime." A couple of inebriated farmers agree with Garridan's chauvinistic comments and laugh. Roll an Athletics check, Khala.

Numerous games and contests take place during the day, including sack races, games of hide-and-seek, weight-lifting challenges, balance beam contests, tug-of-war events, dagger throwing, and the like. The town's residents eagerly form crowds around the events, as the locals partake of the contests and the winners get to earn bragging rights for the year. Do any of the party members wish to partake of the contests?

2nd day of Rova 4707 AR - Autumnal Equinox The whole town of Sandpoint has been abuzz for weeks in anticipation of the first day of autumn. Eager to put the tragedies of the Late Unpleasantness behind them, it seemed that one couldn't go anywhere in town without somebody talking about the Swallowtail Festival held in honor of Desna and the long-awaited consecration of the new cathedral. The Late Unpleasantness, as the locals in Sandpoint refer to it, was a series of violent and tragic events which shook the normally peaceful coastal town in the year 4702 AR. A serial killer named Chopper killed 26 people over the course of a month, including the prior Sheriff, and displayed the remains of his victim on an altar to a bird-like god. Later that same year, a large fire claimed some lives, most notably that of Father Tobyn, and the Sandpoint Chapel was destroyed in the process, while also destroying in part some other buildings. For five years, the faithful of Sandpoint have attended church in smaller wooden structures rebuilt after fire destroyed the previous temple, and while their new pastor Father Zantus was helpful, kind, and wise, church wasn’t the same. Now, the new cathedral is finally done. All that remains is for the Swallowtail Festival to renew the site’s blessings from the gods and it will be as if the Sandpoint Fire had never occurred. The Swallowtail Festival begins promptly, as scheduled, with weather that is cool and clear, signaling the arrival of fall. The square before the cathedral quickly becomes crowded as locals and travelers arrive, and several merchant tents featuring food, clothes, local crafts, and souvenirs are there to meet them.

GM Snarffleflox wrote: Question: Is there a Wizard NPC in Sandport that a wizard could have apprenticed under? There are 2 wizards in Sandpoint: a gnome wizard named VEZNUTT PAROOH, proprietor of the Way North, a local repository of maps, and a human wizard named ILSOARI GANDETHUS, headmaster of the Turandarok Academy, part orphanage, part school. The latter is higher level, if that matters.
I am glad to see there is interest.
Hello all! Oddly enough, though RotRL is the first of Paizo's APs, has been out for years, and is one of the most popular APs, I have never GMed it to completion. In RL, in 1E, I GMed a game to Book 3 before the party suffered a TPK. Thus, I got the bright idea to GM it on the boards in 2E style. I am enjoying the system, the 3-action economy, etc. I am no expert on PF2e by any means and appreciate player input. I hope some of you will agree to give it a chance. I will try and keep the story fresh with some surprises as there is a ton of community added content to enhance the original storyline and events. Expectations from players: At least 1 post a day. Do not apply if you plan on disappearing for long periods of time. I do not expect to start this until after the New Year.
Races: Common and Catfolk, Kobold, Leshy, Ratfolk, and Tengu are allowed. No uncommon versatile heritages.
Free archetype at level 2.
Any questions, please let me know. |
