Rulean stomps on a cricket and then gestures in the direction of the noise. If others agreed he will start moving in that direction with his shield raised.

I'll tell you, since I don't want us to get stuck here: this is one of the rooms where the lesson us "don't be greedy" (or come back later). There's a clue in the room description as to how the trap is deactivated. Preparing for GenCon so it is unlikely I will mess with the puzzle before August. Probably has to do with the missing masks and the aspects of Aroden. Right now Rulean is fine with leaving it and going to the library later to look up the aspects. The player could get most of them, but the RK says Rulean really hasn’t paid that much attention to the dead god of humanity.

Rulean gives a grunt of pain as he experiences the same thing as Ephie and Tikomel had. “Guess we should be more careful about inspecting these statues.” He then suggests that a team of two inspect each statue and offers to take lead on the religious elements of said study.
Rulean goes over to the statue that Ephie is at and tries to figure out what is happening.
As he is doing this, he says “Anyone recall all the aspects of Aroden?”
Rulean indicates he doesn’t have a preference for which direction to take.
Rulean nods, then says “You will allow my companions…” as he gestures to Tikomel and the other group members “…to continue helping us, correct?” After a moment’s pause to give the spirit a chance to respond, Rulean gestures back the way the group came and says “I must apologize for the damage we did to the guardian statue. We did not know of any way to get past it other than battle.” “Are there other guardians ahead, and would there be any way for us to get past them without having to destroy them? I have no wish to destroy the protections that were in place, but fear we will need to go into guarded areas in order to destroy these xulgath.”
“If you are speaking of the reptilian Xulgath, they are far worse than mere thieves. They worship a demon and seek to steal what is left of Aroden’s power. We protected a different Aeon towers from one band of them.” “We are here to stop these xulgath and hopefully their catfolk collaborator from doing anything here.” “Part of my training in the ways of Kurgess included battle.”
I will not have much time for PbP until June 25th. I am attending Origins Game Fair. Hopefully GM Blake will get their internet access fixed before then. If things start going again, please bot my character. I haven’t updated my botting for the Restorative Strike feat. I believe this will cause Rulean to use more two action attacks with the Pick combined with a one-action heal.

With shield ready, Rulean moves in to help Tilomel against the statue.
Rulean is still pondering if there is a way to avoid getting hurt as Tikomel moves forward. A bit impulsive, but we probably would have ended up doing this anyways.
“There is an Eye of Aroden on the chest of the statue. Given the general design and inclusion of a sword, I would say no visitors were allowed beyond this point.” “A high priest of Aroden would likely to have known how to get past it, but I don’t.”
“So, any guesses as to how to evade whatever that statue is warning about?” Rulean tries to recall any religious symbology or stories, especially associated with Aroden, that may give a clue.
With a chuckle, Rulean says “I tend to stand out most places as well.” “We have found out much of why the land is withering, but there is still a lot we don’t know. It is all related to the towers.” Rulean briefly describes what they know of the towers, the xulgath and Mistress Dusklight. He includes the information from the vision he just had. Gesturing towards Givzib as he looked directly at them, he says “We even have them offering us information and help, although I do question their motives.”
“That may explain the aspect of the thief…” Rulean muses. Somewhat surprised by Tikomel, Rulean says “I meant Aroden. He had several aspects, one of them was the thief. I believe their contribution was showing that things had value.”

Rulean wracks his brain for a song that would appeal to a worshipper of Aroden. At first his voice catches, but after clearing his throat he does a reasonable rendition of the song.
As plans are made over breakfast, Rulean says “Someone should inform Chief Constable Andera Paldreen of what we found and what we suspect of the Celestial Managerie. If people are disappearing in her town, she is going to want to know about it.” —— Having figured out the meaning of the mosaic, Rulean is willing to take either the part of the musician or scholar.
Spirited! I like that. They might be a little impulsive. “So you were hired by Mistress Dusklight?” Rulean’s eye ridges raise a little at that. “It may not be the best idea to confront her at her own circus. Too many roundabouts to support her there and I suspect she intended you to be sacrificed to a demon.” Once Tikomel has had time to process what he has said, Rulean fills him in on what the group found and mentions their plans to go back down and stop what is happening.
Oh good! They do know how to speak Taldan! Rulean walks over and squats down next to the kobold. “Hello, I am Rulean and you are in our circus camp. We found you injured and unconscious in a chamber beneath the city.” “You are safe here, but if you want to leave we will not prevent it. We would like to know how you got to where we found you.” “What is your name?”
Cinder Swarm looks interesting but suffers from doing fire damage. Seems to me that if we are going against demons and such, need to keep their resistances in mind. Life Draining Roots is a little creepy but interesting. Seal Fate looks like the type of thing Mr. Splinters would do. Vampiric Maiden is one that my Summoner really likes. They usually reflavor it as Draconic jaws closing on the victim.
Rulean is updated. Replace Communal Healing with Warpriest’s Armor
Will need to replace my armor with Full Plate. Will change around spells prepared a little still, but would like answers on these questions.
Since it seems we are going to be pulled away from the circus, new characters could include other people than just those with the circus. I could easily see us picking up someone with the guards or recommended by the town guards. Plenty of other options that could easily work. I don’t want to derail anyone’s ideas, just wanted to point out new characters probably do not need to fit the circus.

With a nod, Rulean says “Pleased to meet you, Amber. I’m Rulean.” At mention of a sad cat, Rulean says “Could this sad cat be silver and grey, with a fondness for maroon top hats?” Mistress Dusklight
“Please, this kobold isn’t fully conscious. If you could translate what is said…Wait, who are you? I don’t think we have met before.” Rulean pauses mid sentence as he realizes that he doesn’t recognize the kobold speaking to him. They look like a circus performer. Maybe they got hired while they were below ground?
Looking around, Rulean asks “Did anyone under what they said?”
Rulean tries to share some of his water with the kobold. “Here, drink this!” “I am willing to carry them if need be. I agree, saving a life is more important than immediately continuing this exploration.” Looking at Givzib, he says “You don’t get a vote on this.”
I am packing for another convention happening this weekend. We will be driving most of tomorrow and Monday. It is a new convention for me, so I don’t know how the connectivity will be.
Wood and Water kineticists have healing powers if you are looking for something different.
Looking at the polluted water, Rulean says “I can do nothing today, but we will want to purify that water.” Gesturing towards the disfigured mosaics, he adds “We will want to clean that as well.”
Rulean agrees with Clover’s plan.
I do plan to stay with Cleric(Warpriest) but if given a full rebuild would consider changing some of the other things on him. Would need to think on if I would change his Charisma or the Free Archetype. The Warpriest’s Armor feat would work well for him.
Looking at the body, Rulean says “The type of people that would do this are unlikely to see any reason to stop.” Rulean thanks Leaf for tending his wounds. “Now what?”
If we have a group, I am interested in continuing. I’m not sure how interested I am in facing more Xulgaths where it feels like every battle starts with a Fortitude save or be sickened. On the other hand, it looks like the plot is coming back to Madam Dusklight, which I think is good. It also looks like there will be a fair number of Unholy creatures we should expect to fight, so I will need to keep that in mind as I level.
Rulean raises his shield to protect himself, grabs his pick, and then stands back up.

Rulean decides it might be useful to create a gap in their defensive line. He calls on Kurgess for power and then tries to push the xulgath back. Then he raises his shield.
Rulean casts his spell to summon a divine javelin and strikes at the xulgath closest to the makeshift alter with it. He then brings his shield back into place to protect himself. He silently promises himself to aim before casting next time.
Rulean nods his agreement. He asks “Should I use my powers to heal us or should we spend the time using bandages?” Once the healing is complete, he moves over to the west. He gets his pick and shield ready.
Shaking his head at the last statement, Rulean says “That is further than I thought she would go.”
