Rrin got as far as drive around. That said, I'm thinking a low-rent area is better at this point.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14 Ugh, nope. Missed by 4
Rrin says over his shoulder, "He's both an idiot and a cat's paw.."
He turns back to driving, while trying to see if the group is being followed.
Rrin says, "I'm quick, sneaky, trained to fight and a fair pistol shot... Though if you've a Starfighter nearby, I'm a fair hand with those as well."
As a head's up, I'm about to be out of town and without easy access to a computer for about 2 weeks -- basically, I'll be able to post Monday (13) and then not again 'til the 28th.
Generally, feel free to have Rrin suggest other sneaky, underhanded, strike-first, ambushy sort of things (or to fight in that style, as needed) while I'm gone.
Rrin says, "Obviously, that's asking someone to walk into a trap... but it's also more than a fair bit of time to set up our own ambush/trap... And I'm certainly not against turning things back on them. I'm sure we can leave at least one of them in good enough shape to answer some important questions."
He shrugs, "But then, I tend to prefer the sneaky, underhanded, strike-first sort of approach."
He frowns in thought for a moment, then looks back up at the others, "Of course, if they're busy setting up at the park, it might be an opportune time to check out the Docking Arm."
Rrin says, "The question is who knows we're here?"
Rrin turns quickly to face the door and takes half a step forward before he smiles and starts to chuckle, "Lig'Tu? Would you be so kind? Let's give our visitor a warm welcome, just in case it's someone with unfriendly thoughts."
I also thought we were rejoining the others before exposing ourselves...
Rrin looks at the card, then quickly makes it vanish by sliding it into a sleeve, "We should head back to rejoin the others... I'm thinking we'll want to plan our next step.. including scouting ahead."
Wow, didn't notice the autocorrect of Alita's name. Apologies.
I thought we were all going, other than Lig'Tu and Akira?
Rrin says, "A good plan... I worry about dividing our strength, but think haste and stealth are crucial."
Rrin says, "Seems then the man may have been expecting something... untoward.... and clever enough to undertake some insurance measures. Although, I suspect, I might be better to wait and see what we find he's left us before being too impressed."
Rrin says, "Between the lock and the information systems, this place is more secure than I'd have given it credit for.... "
Rrin says, "Sadly, humans tend to make oversweet flavours to support their weak palettes."
Rrin nods, "Logical. But that would mean they likely already had a means to identify the kit, and knew her time of arrival. Can't say I'm liking where that's going."
He looks to his companions, then says, "It would have been useful to find some way to back-track the sire's movements to his point of origin -- a log or personal assistant, say -- but in the absence of the same, this might be an opportune time to leave.... and, as the Seshayan suggests, maybe take some time to study what it is that has everyone so excited."
Rrin nods, "It's a better lock than I gave it credit for, but no alarm. There are bypass kits, but I don't have one..."
He whistles appreciatively and adds, "... other than a Weren, that is."
Rrin says, "Let me take a look at what we're dealing with. Depending on the system, force could trigger an alarm... Or, it could be a system meant more to provide peace of mind via an illusion of security."
Security: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Ok, done. Any modifier on the security roll?
Given the backstory, I'm thinking I'd probably have both -- so I'm thinking I'll drop the Specialization in lockpick (keeping the Manipulation broad) and then take the broad for Security -- assuming you'll allow that? It looks like none of the specializations are trained only.
I'm trained in Manipulation=>Lockpick -- was that the wrong skill to take?
Rrin says, "The newcomer has a point. If his den is on station, there may be some useful information there.... Though, at this point, we may have to sneak past the authorities, given they've found his corpse...."
The Pershala blinks, then says in a tentative tone, "We might actually have a window, while they process their paperwork."
Rrin looks at the newcomer, "For the sake of not standing around long enough for our friend's friends to come looking for him... Let's say we're accepting your help provisionally... And that provision would be the Weren tearing you to shreds of you betray us or harm the kit."
Rrin says, "Not sure that I'd trust law enforcers to not just hand over the kit to the first one to show up with paperwork... Like the documents our now-arrested friend carried. "
Rrin nods, "Agreed. As much as I think we can all guess the result."
Rrin chuckles at the Weren's joke, "I don't think it's a welcoming committee.... Actually, I hope it isn't.", then follows Lig'tu's lead, trying to block sightlines to Rayshel with his own positioning... Without being too obvious about it.
Rrin winces sightly at the reminder that the girl's father isn't here. I can't imagine that the arrival of a kit is the sort of thing even a human would forget... That... plus the knowledge of her adornment... rather bodes ill.
He stretches out again, using his movements as a cover to scan the area to see if there's any persistent (unhealthy) interest in the girl or the group, then suggests, "Maybe the station's authorities could locate the kit's sure?"
Rrin's eyes widen at the stone, then says gently, "Best hide that for now, Rayshel... Your mother was quite wise to tell you to keep it out of sight for now." Though it's clear that some people, at least, know if it's existence based on the false father's screams...
I figured that was it -- but figured I was better to act quickly than to wait for a grappling buddy to revive the penalty... Plus, Rrin's arro...er.. confident.
So, free mass pistol, or was it "evidence"?
Good Phase
Having thrown the man to the ground, Rrin quickly tries to use his weight to pin him, neutralizing the threat.
Defensive Martial Arts: 1d20 - 1d4 ⇒ (11) - (4) = 7
Nice. Extra level of success
"Stay down, stupid human. I guarantee that you'll prefer this to what the Weren would do to someone stupid enough to pull a gun on him."
In Amazing Phase...
Martial Arts (defensive): 1d20 + 1d4 ⇒ (11) + (1) = 12
I can use Defensive Martial to Overpower, as I recall -- so that would let me try to restrain him without harming him?
Rrin begins to move as soon as the human raises his weapon, a growl in his throat, "That's not a scanner, stupid human." He lunges in an attempt to grab the man's arm and use his momentum to throw the man to the ground, while keeping the arm -- and gun -- in his hands. "..and in no way convinces us of your good intentions."
Rrin suggests, "Surely a quick scan would show the truth of this -- either of the ID he's providing or, better still, genetics."
Rrin nods, "It is against the human laws, yes. I believe that when a kit is involved, it's considered worse than stealing a mate." He yawns, as if uninterested, then adds, "In fact, I believe the authorities would appreciate if someone were to subdue such a kit-thief, even if some harm were to befall the miscreant."
Rrin sighs, Rescuing a teddy bear was not exactly the sort of job I was looking for... Still, I can think of worse things than having the Weren around as muscle...
He smiles and tries his best to look friendly and reassuring.
Rrin chuckles, "I can see that... Human-built craft certainly aren't made for the likes of you..."
He shrugs, "They may be good at building them but they're lousy at flying..."
Rrin cocks his head, then looks up at the Weren and says dryly, "Well, as a guess, I'd say one of those pinkskins. The ones without fur... who were moving slow enough to prevent you from unbending.... or was that not obvious?"
Rrin stretches himself out and sighs, Safe approach... How very boring.... Then again, I don't think that freighter could have pulled anything like a fun manoeuvre, even if it had a Pershala pilot and wanted to ignore the station regs....
He looks forward, and sighs (again) at the other passengers, as they slowly start to gather themselves rather than disembarking.
"Let's move, furless.. there's no fun to be had on the ship, so I'd like to get on station."
Place like this is sure to have a few odd jobs for someone like me...
Just going to stick with my original idea -- way too out of practice to build a proper mutant mindwalker.
