Charismatic, Dexterous Diversion!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
The halfling smiles at the oracle trying to hop on the back of Durin,
"Hold on tight, the big guy gets a little cranky when he has to carry extra."
If there are extra shields of faith, it would be a good plan to cast it on Durin so he doesn't take a hit while carrying us
"Finally! We get to do something!" the halfling says already in the process of checking the rigging for Durin's saddle and hefting herself onto the massive griffin.
"We will gladly lead the diversion party. With speed, strength, and the grace of the gods on our side, we shall not disappoint. Just be quick with the tower because I don't think Durin wants to be harpooned with a ballista bolt..."
The halfing paces impatiently the whole time the gnoll is gone.
"Cal, can you scry though him? What's going on? Is he alive still? ....Ugh! I hate waiting!"
Oh Boy... This should be quite the challenge...
Might be a little Deus Ex Machina, but if the NPC wizards were able to teleport in 20 troops, couldn't they teleport us into the tower? Assuming we had a scout to give them a destination like B'auw's plan to head over there.
"Short Girl with Bow" perks up interjecting herself into the sentence:
"Hi! I'm Rose. We've already met..." before realizing it was likely intentionally on the part of the scary woman.
Oh you are fine and quite correct. But in character, Rose would not see it that way. Between low wis, LG, and relatively small-scale/optimistic outlook on life. It's a halfling thing I suppose. So I feel compelled to disagree IC as it is the direction the character would go.
The Halfling jumps to her feet (not a very menacing sight given her stature) and stares down the mysterious woman:
"But the longer we wait here, the more troops who came with us die! They could be getting slaughtered out there! We have to do something!"
Rosie's voice came off more squeaky and desperate than fierce and menacing as she stood on her tippy toes, but she soon relaxed and sank down to a more natural posture:
"Although teleporting in at night does seem like a better strategy..."
The Halfling jumps up with renewed excitement:
"Oh! Cal, could you just hide us all with an illusion? We send a group for a direct attack on the tower, and have another group invisibly teleport in behind their defenses while they are distracted!"
Rose excitedly scribbles her plan in the dirt as she continues rambling on about the importance of tactics and how it relates to the joys of breakfast in a nonsensical story that soon gets off topic, but the central point of her plan is clear.
"And if the tower is wooden, we can always have our spell casters create another diversion by setting it aflame."
Quite pleased with herself and heavily distracted by the finished deer, she grabs a large portion and ravenously devours it.
Aaaahhhh! Why? What'd I do?
"I'll have no problem getting airborne, and it shouldn't take long to get us all up the tower. However, while it is painful to say this, I think Scary Death Flower is right..."
I had no idea that was possible either. After some crafty fishing around through settings I have fixed the issue and can receive messages.
Rose is visibly concerned after the rather graphic reenactment. At first she is about to get up and say something, but Durin eases her back down with a wing to her shoulder.
Clearly she isn't particularly moral... I worry she will turn on us in a moment if she finds it amusing... Rose thinks of Seila before forcing a smile when meeting the gaze of the Ifrit.
"Well all caves smell funny... I will just be a lot happier to get outside again."
The small paladin sits down using Durin to rest against as she watches the fire slowly cook the meat and the half elf's mushrooms.
Her mind wonders off to the troops fighting outside and the mission of her and her allies:
"I hate the calm before the storm... Not very calming...".
"Twenty men to help watch the area. The tower seems like it is up to us if we decide to take it down. When they get here, hopefully we will have the next part of the plan. This cave smells funny..."
Rose relays to the higher up the all clear for troops to come. She then works on prepping the deer for throwing on the fire. Anything to distract her from the closterphobic cave.
Rose returns through the veil carrying a deer-like animal. With a great amount of effort, the Halfling managed to haul the giant (relative to her) carcass over to the others and the fire.
"I found us food." She proclaims with a smile. And after hearing what Seila saw adds, "I'll relay the info on the tower and camp to the guys in charge. They said they have troops ready to be sent over with details on our mission. Cali, do you think the magic you used is strong enough to hide their presence if they teleport into the cave?"
Sorry, Dreamer, long names and short folk don't mesh. Prepare to be offended regularly with her shortenings ;)
Out of character, I love Seila/Xon and think they make for the perfect amount of interesting tension.
In character, Rose wants to kick her in the shins repeatedly and hide from Xon. :)
@B'auw, she grew up in a forest town, is a divine hunter, worships a deity that known as "Old Deadeye," who proportedly gave the world the bow and whose favour is found in good hunting. Plus look at those rolls. I'm going to go out on a role-playing limb and say yup. She nailed it ;)
Rose quickly perks up offering to take the noble duty as telepathic liaison. And growing quite restless in the cave, she grabs her bow and decides to sneak outside through the veil to catch some food for the group.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Attack (Deadly Aim): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
Confirmation: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 8 + (3) = 13
sigh... a potential crit wasted on adding some flavor to the hunt idea... Oh well :)
Fairly confident in her ability to move undetected, the halfing moves out and spends some time searching for a suitable deer (or similar creature fitting this plane), before taking it down with one well placed shot careful not to spoil any meat.
+3 for class skill (you pick the ones for an eidolon) and mask of stony demeanour adds +10
Rose paces uncomfortably in the cave.
"I hate waiting..."
Then looking up and noticing all the other warriors she brightens up as if realising they are there for the first time.
"Hi! I'm Roselyn Bracebuck, servant of the might forest god Erastil, but you can call me Rose. And this is Durin. He's not evil. Just big." the Halfling proclaims beaming with a massive childlike smile.
Rose's checks
Survival: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Durin's checks
Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Rose has no desire to flee and wants to stay to take down the airship. Fortunately, Durin wisely chose to flee with the rest of the group bringing the over eager Halfling along for the ride as she huffed in annoyance.
Yes... Following that line of thought, if we are immediately entering combat, Rose will cast Divine Favour on herself before crossing
Ten riding had been straining for the Halfling, but she was thankful it was spent in the air rather than bouncing on a horse. She smiled briefly to herself looking at the group assembled and said a brief prayer to Erastil for their success and safe return. Durin, the mighty griffon, seemed much more focused and still than usual as they prepared to cross over.
Rose sits up in her saddle, bow in hand and with a strong aura of good emanating out.
Also some lovely benefits for all near me:
B'auw wrote: Plus, in dire circumstances, it's more difficult to kill someone by jamming a scroll in their eye socket. Now I really, really hope at some point the gnoll drives a wand into someone's eye...
Finally all those silly high level math classes I had to take for my physics degree paid off!
Because Knowing is half the battle! [insert G.I. Joe cartoon graphic]
Belt of Physical Might is 10,000gp and adds +2 to two physical stats. Not the Belt of Physical Perfection which adds +2 to all three and is much, much pricier. So yeah, it might require a loss of some magic items, but its the best way to keep the stats I think. Or on second thought since our oracle is a spell caster and not a meat-shield, maybe just having 12 Con is good enough, and the money is better spent on the original items.

@Teller. The stats actuall seem to show a 25-point buy based on race, items, and listed progression. Good catch.
Str - 10 (0) = 10 (Listed Value)
Dex - 16 (10) +2(Race) +2(Magic Item) = 20 (Listed Value)
Con - 14 (5) = 14 (Listed Value)
Int - 13 (3) +1(level 8) = 14 (Listed Value)
Wis - 10 (0) -2(Race) = 8 (Listed Value)
Cha - 15 (7) +2(Race) +1(level 4) +2(Magic Item) = 20 (Listed Value)
25 pt total
@Schahrizade
In order to get down to 20 points with minimal loss of ability, I would suggest altering base int to 14, and using level bonus for Dex. (Bringing point buy down to 24) then dropping con down to 12 (point buy now at 21). This gets you quite close and then just buy belt of physical might (+2Dex/+2Con) instead of belt of dexterity to boost both Dex and Con getting them all up to your original listed values. Still need to drop some state by one (probably strength) but it is much less painful this way than it could be...
Something like this:
Str - 9 (-1) = 9
Dex - 15 (7) +2(Race) +1(level 8) +2(Magic Item) = 20
Con - 12 (2) +2(Magic Item)= 14
Int - 14 (5) = 14
Wis - 10 (0) -2(Race) = 8
Cha - 15 (7) +2(Race) +1(level 4) +2(Magic Item) = 20
(20 pt total)
Hope that helps...
@Thak
Well hey, at least Paladins don't have good will saves. Oh... Wait... :)
Also "Sir Paladin"? And after our detailed explanation of Erastil related gender roles. Insert overly dramatic humph noise.
@Scharizade: Oh thanks! I must have forgotten to update CMD after adding on my magic items (hence the 4 points too low, from +1 Str mod, +1 Dex mod, and +2 deflection), and I will go back and make my skill breakdown more transparent, I have it all on paper.
And I figure griffon mount plus Light Lance spell could be all sorts of gory and fun in a tight spot.
@everyone: I just wanted to say, I'm pretty excited for this especially since the group already seems to have rather awesome chemistry just from the discussion page. So go team go!
Calithilon the Dreamer wrote: And male chauvinism. How're you handling that, Rose? It's a lot of work. I have to hold the door open for me every time I want to enter. Pull out the chair for me before I sit down. Then bad mouth myself behind my back about my inherent inferiority. So much effort...
Herald of Omens wrote: @Everyone: Remember that you're all fighting for the same cause. Whatever your reasons, you want the Order of Amberfall to pay for what they've done. And everyone is together for the moment. You won't be splitting up right away. Good point. Also I would like to clarify I have no intention of playing a "lawful stupid" paladin so people shouldn't easily be annoyed with her. The tenants of Erastil are more oriented to community, respect of people, preserving nature, and honesty.
Oh fun! A have never had any one in RL or online use a diviner. Quick rule question for you or the GM, would your luck bonus stack with my halfling luck bonus to saves or not?
In the boxes for gender/race/class/level just add the extra info the GM would like.
Don't worry, it took me forever to realize that when I first started PbP
I suppose we should determine teams based on roles? I'm primarily a ranged attacker with decent melee and healing abilities. And I'd be happy to go wherever most beneficial.
Thanks! Can't wait to start!
Ditto. Except for the gallant Bracebuck, not double feedback for Thak.
Herald of Omens wrote: Preferably for now I'd rather not, but awakening one could be a fun goal to work with and I'll definitely keep that in mind. Oh, I actually like the eventual awakening idea a lot more. Good call.
@GM: I had extra gold in my other magic items category, and trying to decide what to spend it on. Thought it might be fun to make one of my items intellegent with the excess gold. But if it would be a pain for you, I can easily find something else.
@Thak: I love your backstory and the whole hidden alignment thing.
@GM: what are your views on Intellegent items?
Other than finishing spending the starting gold, I think the character is finished. Of course anything from backstory to items is up for altering if you feel it should be changed, GM. And I will probably flesh out the story/personality more between now and Sunday.
Here is my submission (finishing details coming soon).
Rose is a halfling Paladin skilled with a bow, and while a little overly trusting and naive, she is overall a devout and loyal with a penchant for not taking herself too seriously (stats in the profile).
