Backstory:

Rolar Stormforge was born and raised in the Dwarven Sky Citadel of Janderhoff located in the Mindspin Mountains in southeastern Varisia. The son of minor noble clan who made their fortune selling iron and black marble to Korvosa, Rolar had a bright future ahead of him as the sole heir to the eldest son of Clan Stormforge’s Chieftain. That future ended abruptly when his Grandfather, Berhig Stormforge, was drug from the clan hold in chains, tried for high treason, and executed. Berhig had gotten in over his head smuggling iron to a clan of Duergar dwelling in Nar-Voth, the upper most region of the Darklands. With the clan now disgraced and stripped of their titles and mining rights, Thradum Stormforge (Rolar’s father) led all the remaining adult males into the Mindspin Mountains seeking to reclaim their honor fighting a rumored giant warlord known only as the Storm Tyrant. They were never heard from again.

Unbeknownst to Rolar or his mother, his Grandfathers corruption shook the very foundations of Kraggodan. With the promise of a quick death, he exposed a plot between Clan Dar-Ain, the ruling clan of Kraggodan, and the Duergar of the Mindspin Mountains. Janderhoff sent word of Dar-Ain’s treachery to clan Greathammer of Kraggodan who quickly mobilized a shock force that deposed the corrupt clan and installed themselves as the savior and ruling clan of Kraggodan.

Rolar was fifteen at the time of his Grandfathers execution and fled Janderhoff with this mother, Haroun. Telling no one of her plans she took her son under cover of nightfall and set off to the South in search of a new life in the Sky Citadel of Kraggodan. Upon arrival in Kraggodan, Haroun and Rolar changed their last name to Lonebeard. There they made a new life, Haroun as an acolyte in the temple of Gorum, and Rolar as a laborer digging for iron in the depths of Kraggodan’s mines. As he got older he picked up some training with an axe and eventually earned a spot with Clan Hammerhand, a mercenary company currently in service to Nirmathas, fighting Molthuni monster regiments in the forest east of Fangwood Keep. The company was resupplying in Phaendar, and sufficiently drunk, when a surprise attack by hobgoblins caught them unawares. With his companions being slaughtered all around him, Rolar fought his way east to the bridge over the river Marideth. On the far side he turned to face the oncoming horde and was struck down by several arrows. He awakens, with a horrible headache, in a makeshift camp somewhere in the Southern Fangwood forest.

Personality:

Having spent his formative years without a father figure and learning the ways of the world from roughneck miners, Rolar has a penchant for drinking and womanizing. Careful to watch his drink and tongue around his mother, he quickly returns to his boisterous and flirtatious self once safely out of her earshot. The roughnecks, having also imparted to Rolar their wisdom of social norms, left him without much of a filter. He speaks his mind with no regard to the finer points of diplomacy. Rolar is driven by a deep, almost reckless, desire to restore the honor to his family name. He feels that great victories in battle will grant him enough renown to one day reveal his true identity and return to the halls of his ancestors.

Physical Description:

At 53, Rolar is young for Dwarf. His light brown beard is full, well groomed, and formed into a single traditional braid that hangs to just above his waist. Filling out a 4’4” frame at 199lbs gives him a squat wide appearance, like a bull preparing for a charge.
