I am playing a 20th level Wizard with every Sorc/Wiz spell in the Core Rulebook and APG at his disposal, but I am concerned about creatures using level draining spell-like abilities. I am not so worried about actual spells as I am playing a Dispeller with Immediate action dispels available, but since you cannot counter spell-like abilities...

Since they are rays upping touch AC would be good, I do not have a Ring of Protection Item - both ring slots used - have a half decent 22 dex. I am concerned about creatures with true seeing so anything eliminated by that is of little use.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. :)

Does it work? I suspect not. But if you are using spell completion are you not completing and thus casting the spell? I know you would not get to determine caster level, dc, etc., but aren't you still casting the spell?

Sovereign Court

Is there a rule on whether or not PCs can be intimidated? A cursory check did not turn one up, but it makes me feel uncomfortable...

Sovereign Court

What exactly does this mean? There seems to be nothing explaining further. Does it mean you must be able to speak to use them even as a spell-like ability, does it mean your foe must understand the language you speak? Or something else?

Can I use Command on an animal for example?

What is Living Pathfinder?

Its a growing community of players and DMs who all create characters and run PBP adventures using the same set of rules. Characters can and do switch between adventures with various DMs, each adventure has a judge in place both to impartially settle any rules quibbling - has not been an issue yet - and to take over as DM should the DM be unable to continue for whatever reason. All of this should ensure that you can always get a game for your character and continue advancing.

What sources are allowed?

Core Rulebook, the APG, and The Adventurer's Armory, with the majority of the playable bestiary races available. Item crafting is banned - though you may say you crafted purchased items for RP reasons - characters will likely have slightly over average wealth per level as a rule.

What are the Character Creation rules?

Abilities are generated with 20 point buy, each character gets 2 traits, and begins with 150gp to spend.

How do I sign up?

Come along and check out the Living Pathfinder Wiki, there is a more comprehensive introduction there. We play on EnWorld so you will need to sign up there - its free and easy.

The wiki gives character creation information, tells you about the world we play in - which you are encouraged to contribute to, tells you how to submit adventure proposals as a DM, and allows you to have a nosey at existing characters.

How big is the community currently?

There are 61 existing characters, the vast majority of these are in games - 2 were created recently and are in the process of being approved - with at least four adventures currently in the approval process. We have recently had a healthy influx of DMs - or folks stepping up - though we are always looking for more!

How long has the community been going?

A few months there have already been several successfully completed adventures, and there are a number of 2nd level characters.

What Experience progression is used?

Very Fast, which is to say we use the fast progression, but also award XP - and gold - for time served. A 1st level character earns 7xp and 6gp per day, and this scales with level.

Questions?

Hopefully the Living Pathfinder Wiki will be able to answer most questions, if not fire away here and I will try to address them as soon as possible. I will try to answer some of the commoner questions here...

How do I use the various tags on EnWorld?

To put something in a spoiler use [sblock]Blahblahblah.[/sblock]

To put something in a named spoiler [sblock=Actions]Blahblahblahblah.[/sblock]

To use that grey block thing - not a good description - which I put whose up next in, etc. Its Borric is up!

To insert a link - though there is a tool for this in the top of the post box thing - its Potatoes which will show up as Potatoes on the page and be underlined and link colored.

To insert and image I believe its [img]image link[/img], but I always use the button in the tool bar for these - looks like mountains.

How do I use the EnWorld Dice Roller?

The dice roller is fairly simple. Just make your post, look at it and hit the dice roller link in the bottom right hand corner. This should bring you to the dice roller. At the top is a white box into which you type the purpose of the roll, say Sylvain's Initiative. Below this are a number of different dies, find the die you want and type in the number of times you wish to roll that die - so 1d20 for an init roll, or 5d6 for a cl 5 fireball, etc. Scroll down to the top line below the dice this has a box beside it and two selectable "buttons" put your modifier to the dice into the box and then select whether that value is positive or negative using the buttons. So if rolling init simply input your init modifier, then scroll down and hit roll - don't worry about the stuff below its rarely needed.

Is there anything to prevent a freehand fighter using, unarmed strikes, a gauntlet, or a cestus in his offhand? A player is asking about it and by RAW it appears to work since the text specifies, "His fighting school benefits only apply when he is using a one-handed weapon and carrying nothing in his other hand.", and gauntlets, cestus, and unarmed strike do not exactly constitute "carrying".

Input appreciated!

Does anyone know how I determine the DC for the Inevitable Subdomains Command ability? I am assuming that it is probably something like half cleric level plus 1/2 cleric level plus wisdom mod., but I'd like some conformation of that since I'm infering that from other domain abilities.

When an item is destroyed by Mage's Disjunction, by rolling a natural 1, what does this mean exactly? My interpretation was it was simply a way to differentiate between items that were having their magic suppressed and those that have had their magic completely removed. Others in one of my group believe it means the item crumbles to dust or is otherwise physically destroyed as well. I can see how it would be interpreted that way from the wording.

To me this later ruling would seem very odd for an abjuration which otherwise does no physical damage. So what do you think? If I have a +5 Shield that gets "destroyed" by Mage's Disjunction am I holding a MW shield or is there a pile of dust on the floor? or something else entirely.

Does anyone know what the range increment is for a scabbard used with the hurl scabbard weapon trick?

Was trying to purchase the Bestiary 2 PDF, I'm in the U.K and using a VISA Electron Card. I've double checked all the information is correct. Any idea why its not being accepted?

If I have an Animated Object made of say stoned, does it or does it not benefit from the objects take half damage before applying hardness rule? The example in question is an Animated stone statue being hit by a flaming sphere.

I'm tempted to allow the fire to do full damage before hardness, but I'd like to know the correct course.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Blackspur:

A PRC I'm proposing for inclusion in the Living Pathfinder PBP community, the flavor text relates to the setting used there - E'n. Looking primarily for comments on balance, potential abuse spotting, and suggestions for flavorful class abilities - especially a worthy capstone ability.

Rorn is also famed its elite order of dweomerknights, the Blackspurs, who wield strange magics and ride into battle on creatures summoned from the Other World. Rornish youths who exhibit the special characteristics necessary to draw these creatures from the Other World are taken by the Blackspurs to one of their chapterhouses, raised and given the extensive magical and martial training unique to their order. Outsiders who show peculiar valor and honor the traditions of the Blackspurs are rare, but not unheard of.

Requirements:

BAB: 4
Special: Eidolon, Mount or Divine Bond (Steed), and Bond Senses
Skills: Knowledge (Nobility) 5, Knowledge (The Planes) 5, Ride (Dex)
Feats: Mounted Combat

HD: d10

Class Skills:
The Blackspur’s class skills are Bluff (Cha), Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (Nobility) (Int), Knowledge (The Planes) (Int), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Spellcraft (Int) and Swim (Str).

Skill Ranks per Level: 2 + Int modifier.

Eidolon Mount: A Blackspur's loyal mount and beloved Eidolon merge into a single creature. Each level of Blackspur advances a character's effective Summoner level for the purpose of determining Eidolon abilities by 1. Add your effective Druid level for your Mount or Divine Bond (Steed) to your effective Summoner level for determining your Eidolon's abilities: For example a Paladin 5/Summoner 2/Blackspur 1 would count as a 8th level Summoner for the purpose of determining his Eidolon's abilities, while a Cavalier 3/Summoner 2/Blackspur 1 would count as a 6th level Summoner for the purpose of determining his Eidolon's abilities.

If the eidolon is not capable of serving as a mount, such as the case of a medium character with an effective summoner level less than 8th, the eidolon receives a size increase to large but without any of the standard modifiers generally granted by an increase in size. However, in this case, the eidolon receives a +8 bonus to its strength only for the purpose of calculating its carrying capacity.

A cavalier does not take an armor check penalty on Ride checks while riding his Eidolon. The Eidolon is always considered combat trained thus negating the need for the ‘mount’ evolution. The eidolon does not gain the Light Armor Proficiency feat as a cavalier’s special mount normally would but does gain the share spells ability.

Bonus Feat: At 2nd level, 6th level, and 10th level, a Blackspur may select a bonus feat. These feats must be taken from the following list: Mounted Archery, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge, Trample, Trick Riding, Unseat, Mounted Skirmisher, Improved Share Spells, Summoner's Call, Vital Strike, Weapon Focus. A Blackspur must meet all prerequisites for bonus feats.

Heal Eidolon: As a swift action you may expend a use of your Summon Monster 1 to heal 1d10 hit points, if you have access to higher level Summon Monsters you instead heal a number of d10s equal to the highest level of Summon Monster you are capable of using. You may only expend a single use at a time.

One of the biggest advantages of LPF is that you will not end up with a stranded character if your DM vanishes, that character can continue with all the XP and wealth they have earned.

The community aspect occasionally makes things take a little longer for approvals and the like, but it has the advantage nof keeping things fair and balanced and it's really a non issue with the glacial speed of your average PBP.

Come on, you know you want to. :)

Hey folks, running RoTRLs on OpenRPG and currently at Thistletop, but need suggestions/help for the upcoming Skinsaw Murders. Specifically I want to make Aldern Foxglove redeemable, as when he came onto one of the female PCs she fell in love with him - curse my natural charm ;) - and they have even become engaged!

Now this would be fine I suppose, but not having read the Skinsaw murders I and the PCs have become rather attached to Aldern and I think keeping him in the campaign will be beneficial. To that end I am looking for suggestions as to how I might alter the plot to put him in a position where my PC can reasonably forgive him for his actions.

I am thinking about using Aldern's sister in Aldern's role and having him trying to help/protect/stop her, perhaps desperately trying to cure her of her afflictions? Of course this means I'll need to alter the haunts, etc. Any suggestions?

Help greatly appreciated!

Hey folks, I was wondering if someone could clarify the natural armor evolution for me - possibly because of wishful thinking on my part, lol. Can I take it at 1st level and then again at 6th, or at 5th level and then again at 10th?

The wording says... "This evolution can be taken once for every five levels the summoner possesses."
