The only sounds that a passing wanderer might have heard were the incessant buzz of the cicadas and the far-off cry of a curlew. Reiko moves more slowly than usual, hampered by the unfamiliar contours of her new kobold body. She'd encountered kobolds before, so she is surprised to realize that their usual foul rotten egg reek is actually rather pleasant from within this new form. Suddenly, Reiko is aware of an odd silence of the insects directly about her. Almost right away, a hot wind blows through the branches above her. Reiko looks up to see a rusty-orange drake bearing down on her from above the trees! She might have been silent, but the infernal howl of the kobold champion must have drawn it. The ninja runs up the side of the large tree that the kobold had hidden behind to lessen the height advantage of her new opponent. She draws her sansetsukon, having foolishly forgotten her fighting fan in the leaves beside the kobold corpse. A roar of crackling electricity shoots in an impossible spiral from the drake's mouth; only reflexes honed over years of study keep Reiko from certain death. She leaps and lands on a different branch and swipes at the drake as it passes, missing her by only a foot's distance. She notes with satisfaction that she has opened a large gash in the serpent's haunch as it turns for another pass, clearly enraged. The drake bears down upon Reiko with terrible speed, and Reiko's legs make her choice for her. She finds herself flying through the air toward the drake, landing in a run on its scaly back. She drives her sansetsukon into the drake's hide as she goes, only too aware that she only has a moment before she will be hurtling through the air toward the hard earth. The drake shakes her off, and she goes flying. Reiko crashes through branch after branch on her way to the ground, finally landing with a painful crash. Groaning, Reiko realizes that she's dropped all her weapons and reaches into her pockets for a handful of shuriken. Perhaps a lucky shot with take an eye out before I die, she thinks ruefully. But she looks up to see the miracle of the drake flying away from her, apparently deterred from the damage she has wrought. She sits still for a moment, breathing the delicious air and feeling for broken bones. Finding none, the ninja rises unsteadily and moves about the area, collecting all of her dropped gear. Before the drake had disappeared from view, Reiko had seen it heading toward a cave that rose above the forest on a small hill, not too far from where she stood. She decides that there is no time like the present, and regretfully starts limping toward the cave to finish what has been begun. Reset hand and end turn.

She sees the tripwires that would trigger some sort of trap at opening, but she cuts them and opens it anyway. Inside is some silly spear-axe - whop would use such an obvious weapon? She leaves it and heads to the hall, but quickly ducks back in the room when she sees a protean making its way down the hall. Surely this was the villain responsible? Reset hand and end turn.

Reiko moves silently through the castle until she finds a chest of drawers that contains servant's livery. She quickly dons the outfit and then travels faster, albeit more conspicuously. She heads past a suit of armor carrying a large hunting horn and enters a wide, low-ceilinged room. She is about to turn around and try another area before she hears a weary voice call to her, demanding to see her "papers". Papers? The ninja sighs, draws her fighting fan from a pouch, and sends it flying in the direction of the voice without even looking. She hears a snick, then a thump, and only then turns around to see the headless mercenary bleeding out onto the gorgeous Taldoran carpet. Reset hand and end turn.

Reiko steals into the castle through a fourth story window. She slips past an extraordinary suit of armor to encounter some sort of construct. The thing goes to squeeze her, but she guides it to the suit of armor, which topples over it, rendering it defunct. She moves silently into the darkness. Reiko has been expecting undead - the shambling, slow type. She definitely doesn't expect to see a vampire coming towards her out on the cliff's edge of the city. Hi all, I've just signed up for this game, since there was still a space up in the sign-up spreadsheet, but if another person steps in and wants to play, I am happy to cede the space. I would/will be playing Reiko. I last played her in 2019, so my deck handler is a complete mess (I didn't have a lot of the now-standard tabs in my deck handlers back then), so I need to spend some time fixing that. Recharge Magic Leather Armor to avoid AYA damage. Oh, how cool to have just acquired that! Some oozing thing rises from the floor, and the merest of touches sets one of Reiko's boots afire. Thinking quickly, she leaps in the air and grabs a door lintel with both feet. Dangling upside down, she uses her chakram to cut into the thing, slice after slice after slice. Eventually, it retreats back into the flagstones, and the ninja nimbly hops back down to the floor and continues. Reset hand and end turn.

She removes her black hood and shakes out her ebon, silken tresses. Finally, and uncharacteristically, she smiles. The beast is dead.
