Ah, I missed the allusion to his treasure. No worries, it is safe from my predations. I believe I am too far north to be in contention for that prize, for one thing.

I brought my treasure with me. D’awwww!

The plan is to take lots of pictures and leaves lots of footprints.

Ah, the great and powerful one! I wasn’t sure if he hadn’t made his way to the glitterati of Absalom yet. Glad he hasn’t forgotten us small folk. Do give my regards, won’t you?

I’m actually packing for a week in your general vicinity. Very general. Actually quite far south, but still in mountains, so I think that counts.

That sounds serious. Hope all is well.

”Well, my past does include some midnight requisitions. I have had reason to hone skills you don’t want the local officials knowing - or proving - you’ve honed, if you know what I mean. However, I’ve found it quite satisfying to use these skills to get the better of our common enemies.”

Perception vs. traps: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (10) + 32 = 42

Disable Device: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (3) + 30 = 33

Even with my ridiculous modifiers, I’m happy to accept aid.

I have never played an AP clear through. In fact, it's been so long since we started this, I assumed I must have come in as a sub as is my common means of getting into a party, but no. I am amazed to go back and read the early posts and see that I am the sole surviving non-gm of the original party. I want to thank the co-gms and the other players for putting up with my posting rates for six years(!) and will try to gather up some of those threads that we've let lie, but barring such research, I would say that Randall's come so far and changed so much in the course of this adventure, his future is unclear.

At one time, he would have wanted nothing more than to return to the Gold Goblin and continue to run it into his old age (we still collectively own that establishment, don't we?), but now, he's not really interested in settling down. Maybe dropping in and making sure it's being managed in the way we want, but I think he's inclined to see what Firiel is planning and maybe continue a future with her in it, see what develops.

Rogue 14 [ HP 36/87 (0 NL) | AC 26 Tch 19 FF 20 | Fort +9* Ref +18* Will +10* | CMD 27, 29 vs steal | Init +9 | Perc +21, vs traps +32, trap spotter | Effects: Haste]

Randall risks a glance over his shoulder to see what's going on and is completely confused to see Xiddik screaming into a burning pile of rags and apparently no sign of the leader. Desna's stars, where did she go now? And what's gotten into Prickles - he's full of himself right now, isn't he?

Rogue 14 [ HP 36/87 (0 NL) | AC 26 Tch 19 FF 20 | Fort +9* Ref +18* Will +10* | CMD 27, 29 vs steal | Init +9 | Perc +21, vs traps +32, trap spotter | Effects: Haste]

Confirming that Purple and Yellow are current and active threats, is that true? If so, Randall will attempt a feint at Purple to get him back on his heels. If successful, that would make him flat-footed for a Firiel attack. During said feint, Randall will study the fellow to see if he carries anything interesting to purloin.

Bluff to feint Purple out of his dwarfskin boots: 1d20 + 20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 20 + 2 = 35 including +2 from good hope, disregard if inappropriate

Perception looking for something to steal, preferably something I can use against him later: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (8) + 21 = 29

Oh, jeez, I forgot all the spell bonuses. Good hope, haste, inspire courage, all should figure into my attack.

By the way, very glad to see you back, Feral.

"Firiel, come play with me!"

If Firiel comes toward Randall's position, he will tumble around the drow next to him and attack when the petite sorceress is flanking.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31

Flanking attack: 1d20 + 17 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 17 + 4 + 2 = 28 includes +4 outflank bonus and +2 holy bonus assuming drow qualify as evil

Damage: 1d3 + 1 + 7d6 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (1, 2, 6, 2, 6, 6, 3) + 2 + (5, 3) = 39 includes sneak attack and +2+2d6 holy damage

If the attack hits, he gains 7 points of bleed. I assume you will remove bonuses that are inappropriate, of course.

Will DC 22 for half: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 1 + 2 = 18

It's been a minute, so I've lost the thread of the combat. Is Njord the token just above Firiel on the map? So I have a drow playmate standing next to me?

Ah, included the good hope, forgot about the inspire courage! D'oh! And I have a better flank because of Firiel and our teamwork feat! Do I have Spell Resistance thanks to your playing? Wonder what else I forgot in my rush to post.

So Randall hits AC 46 for 47, AC 42 for 44, and AC 44 for 34.

Reflex DC 26: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 18 + 1 = 23 I don't believe I have a buff other than haste that would help a Reflex check. Improved Evasion means 29 points of damage.

Randall takes advantage of the flank with Firiel and works to carve up the demon.

Primary attack: 1d20 + 21 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 21 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 43 Flanking, Hasted, Good Hope(?)

Well, then.

Randall blinks at her quick reactions and spends only a moment to follow suit. The tiny figure virtually flies across the floor, flipping and rolling and colliding with the vulture-demon, tiny blade first!

Free action: Activate daredevil slippers for +5 to acrobatics
Full action: Charge to current location on the map, tumbling to get into position.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 21 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 21 + 5 = 29

If my tumble successfully avoids provoking an attack of opportunity, I get a +2 to my attack. Hoping that's the case, it's included below.

Attack, tiny anti-demon enchanted dagger: 1d20 + 21 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 21 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 2 = 35 Haste bonus, Outflank bonus, charge bonus, AoO avoidance bonus

Damage: 1d3 + 11d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + (4, 4, 4, 2, 3, 1, 5, 1, 1, 5, 3) + 5 = 40

Current AC: 25; Firiel, I got his attention, time for the hedgehog to finish him off!

Randall moves up to Firiel and whispers, ”These two are confused by the illusion. Should we practice our talents on the smarter ones or go directly to the drow?”

I kind of want the area effects to be free to operate on the folks on the dais. Are we botting Jametor in this fight? I think some fiery goodness would be well-placed... If Firiel is willing, I’d like to move to the right side of the map and tag-team a demon. All we would manage this round is movement, though. Firiel?

I say go for it. Pick a side and make what appears seem much more significant than little ol’ us. Invisibility of any kind would be welcome on both halflings. We would circle the room to the opposite side of the illusion, for targeting purposes. Right, Firiel?

Rogue 14 [ HP 36/87 (0 NL) | AC 26 Tch 19 FF 20 | Fort +9* Ref +18* Will +10* | CMD 27, 29 vs steal | Init +9 | Perc +21, vs traps +32, trap spotter | Effects: Haste]

Oh, then the illusion could pop up in the middle of the room, draw some fire, and we open the door while they are distracted? There’s not really a “behind” for casting it behind them.

We will have to open the doors to cast, right? How do we disguise true locations in that instance? Glitterdust would not be a poor choice. Or confusion in a tight group like that.

The plan may be based on some misunderstandings. Can we get a “as Randall saw it” map to visualize what we think we are getting ourselves into?

Muttering, "Small army of drow soldiers guarding the one that is surely in charge... Vulture demons scattered around the room... And they might be using invisibility to disguise their numbers. Because I would."

Counting the drow is going to be difficult, I suspect, but Randall would make a best guess. And he would like to count the vrocks. I'm not sure there is a "behind" where our illusory doubles could appear - my mental picture of the scene has the drow with their backs essentially to the far wall on a raised platform. FWIW, I think a raised platform full of blinded drow soldiers would be a riot to watch.

"I'm all for giving them a lot to think about up front, but we need to agree on what our primary goal is. When they figure out what's really going on, we need to have taken out that primary goal or nearly so. I nominate the priestess."

I'm going to be the most effective against an unsuspecting target unless someone can flank with me. If I can be invisible and get up to the boss lady, I might make her regret some recent life choices. Or she might see me coming and I'd be better against a vrock with my demonslaying needle and a flanker. Can you shadow conjure something with an insane AC so it can survive being my flanker while I do all the heavy lifting?

Even as he wants to hustle to the end to listen, Randall holds up a hand to have his friends pause while he checks for traps along their path.

Searching: 1d20 + 32 ⇒ (19) + 32 = 51

Once at the doors, assuming the action appears safe, he will trigger his gloves of reconnaissance and see what’s going on within.

Should be 50/50 that he dodges into the path of the spell, don't you think? Just a case of trying to moderate the complexity in the rules, I'm sure.

Wow, I forgot haste last time, too. I'm not very good at this game lately, am I? I could have put that extra attack on the glabrezu since I was also adjacent to him. Bummer. OK, inspiration, haste, good hope. Net +5 to hit, +4 to damage, and an extra attack?

Expecting the enormous demon to regain his sight any minute, Randall hits it with everything he's got.

Primary attack, tiny enchanted dagger: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (20) + 26 = 46
Damage: 1d3 + 11d6 + 16 ⇒ (3) + (1, 5, 4, 1, 4, 1, 3, 1, 4, 5, 3) + 16 = 51

Iterative attack: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (10) + 21 = 31
Damage: 1d3 + 11d6 + 16 ⇒ (1) + (5, 5, 6, 5, 3, 2, 6, 3, 5, 6, 6) + 16 = 69

Haste attack, tiny enchanted dagger: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (18) + 26 = 44
Damage: 1d3 + 11d6 + 16 ⇒ (1) + (4, 3, 2, 4, 5, 4, 6, 2, 1, 1, 1) + 16 = 50

Another natural 20 on the primary attack!?! Too bad my crits really do no damage.

Confirmation for critical threat: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (19) + 26 = 45
Damage: 1d3 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

And seven points of bleed damage per round - I don't believe that stacks and I doubt that the critical, if successful would double the rate.

After the vicious strikes to the demon's calf and foot, Randall sidesteps. Moved one square right on the map, aiming for eventual flank with Njord if we all live long enough.

Rogue 14 [ HP 36/87 (0 NL) | AC 26 Tch 19 FF 20 | Fort +9* Ref +18* Will +10* | CMD 27, 29 vs steal | Init +9 | Perc +21, vs traps +32, trap spotter | Effects: Haste]

Phooey - my rolls did not include inspire performance or good hope. Since the target is dead, I guess it was no harm unless another 12 points of damage would have finished it off and Firiel could have targeted the other demon.

Rogue 14 [ HP 36/87 (0 NL) | AC 26 Tch 19 FF 20 | Fort +9* Ref +18* Will +10* | CMD 27, 29 vs steal | Init +9 | Perc +21, vs traps +32, trap spotter | Effects: Haste]

I'm always a fan of focusing fire on a target to remove actions from the enemies' turn, but wanted to make sure I was on the right track.

With an internal tremor of fear, Randall steps up behind the vrock targeted by Njord and endeavors to end its time on this plane.

Feral, rule check:
OK, I believe I verified this all with you previously, but here's the breakdown of Randall's prized new dagger in case I'm using it incorrectly and you need to correct me.

+1 evil-outsider bane holy cold iron dagger

+10 BAB
+ 5 Dexterity (weapon finesse)

With one of the dancers down, I’m debating trying to score some damage against the larger demon while he’s apparently still blinded. The wiser choice is probably to soften up the vrock for Njord’s next rip-and-replace. Thoughts?

Ugh. The five-foot step to be able to reach the glabrezu means I cannot attack and retreat this round. Retreating would provoke the AoO, anyway. A better choice is to attack a vrock - two are already blind, but the third is trying to be a spellcaster and is already damaged. Do I stay near the front and aid Njord, do I move to the unblinded vrock and give him a nasty surprise next time he tries to cast? .... Staying near the front.

Randall repositions himself for an attack next round, but holds off while the larger demon is so close. Reflected on the map - he's in position to attack either of the blinded vrocks next round.

Sense Motive to determine if the still-seeing demons detect his movement: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Frankly, part of the problem is my delay in actually updating the map to show my intention, but even then, you wouldn't have known unless I had said something. As you say, we will see what Feral thinks. I really don't like my odds blind and visible in that particular spot.
