After some thought and a hot dwarven breakfast, Ragnarok meditates for an hour
Takes Speak with Animals and Endure Elements as 1st level spells. and then immediately casts Endure Elements on himself. Feeling a little more comfortable he tells Ulfgard. "The trail is completely covered by the snow, but they were definitely using this game trail. If we keep an eye out for side routes they might go down, I'd say just follow the trail. Thanks for the ale, it hit the spot. Are we ready" he asks.

Knowing what a wonderful cook Grandma Mable is, Ragnarok gladly turns the task of the actual cooking over to her after he finishes the butchering. As she seasons the meat he lays his firewood out to start a fire. If anyone has a tindertwig they're willing to use, he allow them to do it, otherwise he just begins the laborious task of starting the fire by rubbing two sticks together. Then while the meat is cooking he begins to dig a shelter out of the snow from underneath one of the trees near the fire. He piles the extra snow on the windward side to form a windbreak. As he works he adds to the talk of Irrisen. I'm not from Irrisen but my mom was. I'd love to visit there someday though and try to find my father." If the decision is made to camp here he asks. "This is a dangerous area. We'll need to set watches. And I'll need to take an hour to meditate when the sun rises."

"Do these 'white witches' have any weaknesses?" Ragnarok asks warily as he starts to butcher the lizard.

I'm assuming Survival can be used to field dress and quarter the tatzlwyrm. Ragnarok wants to save some choice cuts in case he needs to bribe a carnivore tomorrow and save the eyes to bribe any birds.

Ragnarok shrugs, deciding It's some kind of big lizard. He returns Ulfgard's high five with a smile then he notices the dwarf's unhappy visage. "I can only make people large for a few minutes once a day. So I'll need to sleep before I can do it again." he explains.

His spurt of growth is only momentary. As he shrinks he tries to pry the jaws of the beast off Ryksa's shoulder. He apologizes. "I don't have any healing magic left. Maybe we should rub some snow in it."

At which point you can be certain that Ragnarok has no ranks in Heal :)

He then pauses to examine the creature.

Ragnarok once again grows and he steps forward so he can swing his greatsword over Ulfgard's head. "Let her Go!" he yells.

Ragnarok takes one of the wooden shields and a spear. He doesn't keep them in hand, he merely straps them to his backpack. "I'll take these' he says.

Ragnarok steps back so Salvia can do her work. He starts to explain why he doesn't want the mace, but Ulfgard's explanation seems to satisfy him.

Actually Druids aren't proficient with maces. But clubs are OK. Go figure.

As he travels, Ragnarok pulls a fairly large stick from the splintered lightning struck tree. Trimming it of leaves and bark so he can get a frim grip he hands Grandma's mace back to the elderly woman. Many thanks for the loan, but I feel more comfortable just using this."

Back at carriage fight
Ragnarok smiles at Ryksa and Lini. "Its a good plan. Whoever it is they have a devil of a sense of humor. Animating the slain to kill those who come to investigate is just wrong. So I think our noble woman is in some real danger." Ragnarok warily watches the woods as everyone gets weapons and armor. He agrees to go up front, the trail isn't hard to track but who knows, they've already proven to be very sneaky.
Further down the trail
Ragnarok stops in his tracks. "It looks like there's a trap ahead. See that chest." He points towards the chest buried in the snow. "And up there is the log that will swing down and smash the fool that messes with it. Anyone skilled at disabling snares? I prefer a more direct involvement in hunting, less of a chance you'll hurt the wrong creature."

If no one volunteers, Ragnarok will just take the simple expedient method of climbing up the tree and cutting the log free. His climb is +4 if necessary. He will have to borrow a dagger.

As the group travels Ragnarok is also on the lookout for something that could be used as a club. Once he finds a hefty stick, he will give the mace back to Grandma.

Ragnarok looks toward the trail leading off into the woods. "Well it looks like we have a choice. We can follow them into the woods. Or we can go back into town with the news and maybe use the jewelry to buy flaming oil or something to fight these cold zombies with. I vote, Follow them into the Woods. We have no idea what they plan on doing to that poor woman."

If the owl is still around, Ragnarok will try and convince it to fly overhead and maybe give us some advance warning of an encounter.

Seeing that all the undead are dealt with, Ragnarok shrinks back down to normal size. He picks up Grandma's mace. "Thank you, Maam. I'll keep it in case there are more of these." He looks over the undead corpses trying to discern if any of them are women.
Just checking to see if maybe one of them is the noble lady we're looking for.

Ragnarok yells out as the undead burst forth "There's more of them!' In desperation he keeps himself at his giant size and swings his greatsword at the undead he and Salvia flank.

Pleased that his attempt to enlarge Ulfgard worked, Ragnarok starts to make his way around the carriage towards Grandma's mace. I never tried that on anyone other than myself. he thinks. His thoughts are interrupted as the undead monster rips into Sciath's carotid artery. Not quite being able to make it to him, he once again channels the verdant energy of the woods, this time it is Ragnarok himself that grows, giving him the reach to touch Sciath. Sciath's wounds begin to knit.

Every possible move action I could try to get to Sciath seemed 5' short. So he takes a move action to get to where he is one the map. A swift action to grow himself to large size for 1 round. I'd like to grow away from the cold zombies otherwise the next action will provoke. Then a standard action to cast Cure Light on Sciath.

Cure Light: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

As the healing energy flows out of him, Ragnarok feels strangely fatigued, having pushed himself to his spellcasting limit.

Ragnarok curses under his breath at Grandma's revelation. The only thing I have that can hurt them is sling bullets. he realizes. "Ulfgard, use the hammer!" he cries and channels the force of verdant nature into the dwarf. "Grow, and be strong" he intones.
Rangnarok takes a full round action to cast Enlarge Person on Ulfgard. It makes his weapons bigger also.

Ragnarok seems almost ashamed as he turns from the carriage with a curt. "I think there's someone hiding in the boxes beneath the seat, but I need to talk to the owl before it flies away. I'll be right back" He glances over at Ryksa. I sure could use a small rodent he thinks but decides not to even ask the young witch. Instead he walks slowly towards the owl trying to approach it close enough to talk.

He says a few words in giant and then turns to the owl.

Midway through searching the carriage, Ragnarok stops. Slaps his head with his right palm. "I'm an idiot." He then starts looking for the owls that flew away.

If he can find them, he will cast Speak with Animals. DOH!

He replies to Ulfgard. "I certainly hope I can. If I had to guess the trail that leads into the woods yonder is where the attackers went. Are you doing OK." He asks concerned.

"There's someone moving around in the carriage." Ragnarok exclaims. "There's something strange about this. Anyone tied up for the entire night in this cold should be unconscious by now.

Ragnarok hurries and catches up to Grandma and Ryksa. "If its all the same to you ladies, I'll go first. We don't know what might be out there, plus I'm sure Yuln left a trail coming back to town, and I'd like to backtrack him." After a few minutes of trudging he notices that the snow doesn't seem to be bothering Ryksa as much as it is him. [b]"Ummm.....Just how are you walking like that?" he asks.

Yuln, just has to get us close, after that following tracks in the snow should be a pretty easy Survival check. Crosses fingers.

Ragnarok replies to Ryksa. "Yuln retired for a short time here in Heldren. I count myself lucky he was here, he taught me a lot of things about my ancestors. But the wanderlust is strong in him, and he found a mercenary job. He sent me a message saying he was returning but gave no details."

As for spells, the next morning (and I'm sure I'm going to regret this later) he's not going to take entangle. It's such a good spell, but I suspect that all the vegetation we find is going to be covered in snow. His two spells will instead be Cure Light and Speak with Animals.

Ragnarok agrees with Tessaraea, and offers to help carry the wounded warrior to her shop. Along the way he asks. "Tessaraea, would it be alright for me to sleep in your shop tonight? I wouldn't be a bother, I've got my own bedroll, I can just set it up on the floor. But he's the closest thing I've got to a family."

Ragnarok will pick up 1 more day of trail rations. He doesn't have any money to contribute to the pot, but he will offer to carry stuff. He will carry up to 75 pounds of gear (10 will keep him under light, but since we're probably going to moving at 'dwarf speed' he's willing to be medium encumbered.)

Ragnarok tries to catch Ryksa before she leaves, stopping her outside the 'Stoat' so their conversation cannot be overheard. "I know its alot to ask, but can you bring some lemmings. Bern may be a blow hard, but he's not wrong about me being able to speak to animals from time to time. I'm hoping I can find a hawk or eagle, something that roams a large area and ask it some questions about the woods. And for that I may need to 'pay it.' He looks embarrassed, as he has no idea how attached she may be to her pets.

After talking to Ryksa he returns to the Silver Stoat. Seeing his friend Yuln feeling much better, he asks. "Yuln, its nice to see you. Although not under these circumstances. What attacked you?" he asks.

There is rage in his eyes as Ragnarok pushes his chair back and shouts at Bern, all thoughts of reasoned argument fading. "YOU LYIN BASTARD. Ragnarok helps the old woman with her load. As he smells the freshly baked bread his stomach gives an involuntary growl. "No 'mam. Its not natural." he replies to Grandma. Even as long as she's lived, this has never happened. he thinks. As Ulfgard comes up, he just shakes his head. "I went out scrounging for Tessarea today. But there was nothing. This weather is killing the plants."

Ragnarok trudged into town, shrugging the snow off his back. That didn't go well. he thinks to himself. This damned summer snow. It wasn't natural. He could feel it in his bones, that something was amiss in the world. The life of the forest was being smothered by the unnatural weather, soon the plants would die, and then the animals that lived on the plants, then those who lived on animals. His thoughts are interrupted by his arrival at the apothecary. He starts to knock, but hears Argus' laughter from inside. Why, that old goat. he thinks. Well I had nothing to tell Tessaranea other than I couldn't find any, so I guess I'll just come back later. He turns and heads into the Silver Stoat. Closing the door behind him he glances down at Menander behind the bar. "Unless you're feeling generous, give me something cheap." As an afterthought he adds. "There hasn't been any mail, has there?" he asks. Maybe Yuln had sent him some news. That old mercenary might have an idea about what to do.

Gm DSP Who runs and trains the village militia? I figure Ragnarok lives off the land if he can, supplying Tessaranea with occasional herbs. But when he gets desperate for money like he is now, he does guard work for the militia.

When a fight ultimately happens, who here would not want Enlarge Person thrown on them? I particularly like the idea of a giant dwarf, but it does reduce AC by about 2.

Ryksa, I notice in the Player's Guide the name of Heldren's Inn is the Silver Stoat. With that name I bet one of their specials is Lemming. Or if not, it should be. Ragnarok is also known to be able to Cure, although he'll usually give someone some berries to eat instead. Of course with this cursed snow, its getting harder and harder to find food and game.
