I had actually planned on giving him the Kobold bloodline (his function in battle would essentially being the rear guard/fallback plan/general arcane harassment) which would give access to trap runes and stuff, but that Guttermage sounds intriguing, actually. I would certainly give that a looksee, if you can point me in the right direction. I actually went hunting for it, and bought the .pdf through Drivethrurpg.com. Since it's simply not possible to find a digital copy for free online without going to some shady sites. It's called The Book of Rougish Luck.
