SPECIAL ABILITIES:

Advanced Alchemy: You gain the Alchemical Crafting feat, even if you don’t meet that feat’s prerequisites, and you gain the four additional common 1st-level alchemical formulas that feat grants. The list of alchemical items. You can use this feat to create common alchemical items as long as you have their formulas in your formula book, though their power is fleeting. You can create these items in two different ways, as described below. An alchemical item you create this way has the infused trait.
First, during your daily preparations, you can create items for which you have the formulas. Creating items in this way requires spending 1 Resonance Point to create a batch of alchemical items of that type with the infused trait. You select how many items are in the batch, up to half the normal maximum batch size (half a typical batch is two items, but see the Crafting Trained Activities section on page for more information). You don’t need to attempt a Crafting check to do this, and you ignore the number of days typically required to create the items and any requirements of alchemical reagents. You can’t overspend Resonance Points to create infused items in this way during your daily preparations.
Second, you can create alchemical items with the Quick Alchemy action.
*QUICK ALCHEMY
Cost 1 Resonance Point
Requirements You must have alchemist’s tools, the formula of the alchemical item you’re creating, and a free hand.
You create a single common alchemical item that is of your level or lower without having to spend the normal monetary cost in alchemical reagents or needing to attempt a Crafting check. This item has the infused trait, but it remains potent only until the start of your next turn. After this period, the item becomes inert and grants no effects. If you overspend Resonance Points to use this ability and fail the flat check, you can’t use the Quick Alchemy action again until the next time you undertake your daily preparations.

BACKGROUND:

To save your own son, would you not experiment upon yourself? Is there enough time to save him? I have to try…

A dark-haired, middle-aged man, drenched in sweat, awakes with a start outside the eastern entrance of Riddleport. He rises slowly from the dust at the side of the road and looks around with trepidation, as if unsure how he got there. He coughs softly and sees some blood on his hand. Starting to panic, he calls for help.

”Is anyone there? Just…please…I’m not sure how I got here, but I need to get into Riddleport! It’s…an emergency!”

Though he appears to be fit and even muscular, his skin has an ashen cast to it, and he does not appear to be well. He reaches down to his waist and feels for his chemicals and reagents, the tools of an alchemist. His hands have a significant tremor as he prepares an extract, which he quickly drinks. It seems to provide him some relief, and he is able to summon a guard from the nearby gate.

"Sir! I am Professor Leoric Faust. I need to get into Riddleport. I can’t remember how I got here. Was I attacked?” he asks the guard. The professor is awkward in his manner; he is one that prefers the company of books or a laboratory. The guard smirks in response.

I…I…have had some blackouts recently. I don’t…remember how I got back here! But I need to save my son! His illness has something to do with that Blot in the sky…I know it! I need to compose myself.

”I’m sorry,” he says as he dusts himself off. ”I have business in Riddleport.” The guard shrugs and waves the alchemist through.

Professor Leoric Faust is an esteemed instructor, skilled in the art and teaching of alchemy and biology at Magnimar’s Stone of the Seers school of arcane instruction. He taught several classes, where he assisted wizards learning the mixing of potions or anatomy through dissecting corpses. He practically lived in the protective leather jerkin he awkwardly taught his classes in. That, he knew. He also knew he didn’t want to be here. He never wanted to be in Riddleport, and tried to only come once a year to purchase reagents for the next year of his alchemy class or return with an interesting corpse for dissection. For some reason, he could also sell love potions here to a tiefling named Lavender Lil. But he hated the scoundrel city, where he always felt people wanted to take advantage of him. He usually was the one to back down in a confrontation, so he preferred to stay away. He had been here just last month. But the entire return trip here…he seemed to have forgotten it.

He had a young son. He knew his son had become very ill. It started just after he returned from Riddleport last month, when he had seen that strange Blot in the sky. Strangely, his son had developed a black spot in one eye…the exact same shape as the Blot in the sky! The child had experienced nightmares, cold sweats, and waking dreams. Then everything went downhill so fast. His eyes were black, and he fell into a coma!

Professor Faust sought a cure. When the clerics couldn’t help and his son's health deteriorated, the alchemist tested his own cure. There wasn’t time, so he tested it on himself. This 'cure' had proven to strengthen the alchemist…he remembered that. He continued the experiments upon himself as his son’s health worsened. But it also had dreadful side-effects.

Coughing. Tremors. Chemical dependency. Blackouts. And Mr. Seethe. Why does that name sound familiar? This Mr. Seethe…has done terrible things while I was asleep! Could he be causing the blackouts?! Did he hurt my son?! Did he bring me here?

”Please!” he asks a passerby. ”I need to find a place where I can speak with important people…can you help me?”

That Blot is the key…I need to find out how it is affecting him…I can save my son!”

Professor Faust is a beta-male who hates confrontation. Mr. Seethe, his alter-ego, seeks confrontation and control.
