Going to go ahead and delete this from my active games (4 months and still nothing happening). I was very excited for this one. If by any chance it starts up again, I'd love to be involved.

Sorry to hear about that! I've really been enjoying this group, and hope we can pick up with it later. It does sound like Morrick could use a breather for a bit, too. I look forward to starting up again later. This is one of the coolest openings of a campaign possible!

Let's put the curtain back in front of it and keep searching until we have a clue as to what it is/does. I think there's plenty more to explore. "Let us leave this creepy thing for now and check out the library wing. Perhaps there is a way out there."

Faust regains his composure a bit at Damien's words. "Thanks for taking charge...I'm not sure I could have gone on without all of you leading the way," he says. Looking at their options, he says "First, is everyone able to go on without rest? I know I am fine to keep going, but if any of you need spells or what not, we could rest." He looks at the bizarre eye creature. "So we could go explore where we had been exploring, or try for the library? I guess the library sounds fine..."

Professor Faust lowers his mace, takes a look into the room, and his normally gray cast turns a little more green. He runs into the corner and vomits. Looking up sheepishly, he wipes his mouth with a fist and shudders. "I'm starting to think we won't get out of here very fast," he murmurs. Looking at his companions and the wounds they have sustained in each battle, he says "We should go heal up and maybe rest. I can keep going, but want to make sure you are all okay."

Faust complies with Lovecraft's suggestion, and though he attacks with some trepidation through the open door, finally swings accurately. Morningstar (two-handed, bless): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 1 = 191d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Professor Faust continues his coughing fit, and with the hacking, he can't get off an effective attack. Morningstar (two-handed, flank, sneak attack): 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 131d8 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (6) = 16 Wow...I'm not sure if this is just me or everyone, but I can't roll above a 10 to save my life (perhaps literally?).

Faust overcomes his coughing fit. "Keep it together!" he tells himself, or maybe the others. The alchemist dodges behind the creature, flanking with Navin, and then tries to whack it over the back of the head with his morningstar. Morningstar (two-handed, flank, inspire courage): 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 161d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Faust seems torn between running and fighting his way through. He tries to swing at the monster, but a fit of coughing leaves him trembling and with bloody froth on his lips and he misses widely. Morningstar (two-handed): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Professor Faust stumbles over some of the rubble as he tentatively swings his morningstar at one of the doppelgangers. "I think it is safe to say," he stammers, "that everything here is one of these insane shapeshifters!" Morningstar (two-handed): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Faust looks apprehensive of trusting any of these prisoners. "More doppelgangers?" he whispers to the others. "What has been happening here?" he asks, looking at the manacles securing the prisoners to see if they are truly locked up. perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Faust agrees with Damien that they can leave the winter blankets and the chains if those in the command center can use them. "I would like to go back out immediately," the alchemist says. "We don't have time for much talk..." Should we try the door to the west of the hall? With the black square?
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Faust frowns as his extract doesn't seem to effect Damien...at all. "This should have worked! I have done this experiment upon myself. There must be some difference between my physical makeup and his. I will continue perfecting this concoction, but for now, can anyone else heal him?" I'll go ahead and drink my own, then, bringing me up to full.
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Faust nods vigorously. "I thought she might be, but no one would listen to me," he correctly points out. "But still, their disguises are incredibly clever. We must be more careful," he says as he steps over to Damien. "Fortunately, my new friend, I have some alchemical extracts that can help you. It is not as powerful as the mutagens I have used to increase my strength, but it should heal some of those wounds." The alchemist takes a sip of something he has made for himself, and then uses some of the rest on the unconscious Damien. CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

"Nnnggg!" Faust gasps as the womans' claws rake across his chest. The alchemist seems surprised his own mace had struck the woman, but more so by her retaliation. He steps back away from her, hoping not to take any more damage. 5' step back after attacking. Morningstar (two-handed): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Professor Faust recoils as the woman's countenance changes. He had just let his guard down (mostly). "Damien! I told you it was a doppelganger!" he cries. "But nothing is going to stop me from getting out of here!" he threatens as he hefts his mace and prepares to hit the old woman if she comes near him. Morningstar (two-handed): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Faust nods to Damien. "You're probably right. I'm sure she's just an elderly woman," he says. He slowly walks toward the woman. "How long have you been stuck here," he asks. sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 10

In the storage rooms, Faust examines the chemicals at Damien's prompting. "Sure...I'll check it out," he says as he stoops over the broken bottles. craft alchemy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 As they find the old woman, the Professor takes a tentative step backward. "An old woman would be a great disguise...for a doppelganger," he whispers to his companions.

Faust frowns at the woman. "These yellow mists carry some kind of hallucinogen. I am an alchemist and am familiar with such things. Trust me, I was not a patient here, except to the extent I have been kidnapped and experimented upon. I am a professor, not a lunatic." The professor sniffs indignantly. "Even so, we had best get on with this. I don't have time to discuss this and need to get home." Faust hefts his mace. "If we have to make it down this hallway to get out, I need to start now." Off we go?
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
As it dawns on him that they will not get out of here quickly, Faust looks tormented. "I'll do whatever I must, so long as it expedites our leaving this place!" the meek professor says. "Show us what needs to be done, and I'll either do it or die trying!" Looks like we could head north up the hallway and try some doors as we go...one on the left first?
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Faust relents as Damien pulls him back. "Okay," he says. "I'm glad you know what you're doing." Once they are showed to the chapel, the professor says "I guess we should hurry and do what they want. Maybe as soon as we are done, they will let us go home. I feel better now that I have my equipment." The alchemist coughs violently for a few moments, but seems to regain his composure quickly.
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Faust frowns at the thought that they need to go hunting these things. "I don't have time to go back out there! I have a son, and he is very ill! I need to get past. So please step aside!" he implores.

FYI, I'm taking a weekend trip with my beautiful wife to get away from the Utah cold. I'll be back on Tuesday. Hopefully I don't miss much with it being a weekend, but I'm unlikely to post. Please bot me as necessary!

"Wait?! Did you say 'asylum'?!" Faust exclaims. "Do you know why we are here? If you were an orderly, do you know more about what is going on here, and how we got here? What were you doing in that butcher lab with us if you are an orderly?"
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Faust listens to the possible explanations. "This is all so strange. One possibility is some kind of vaporized hallucinogen...an alchemical reaction if you will. This yellow mist could be a weapon utilized by this face-changing monster to lure people into his trap! Here where we stand! Maybe he didn't keep enough gas on us, and we woke up. That could explain how we all got here without knowing each other before." Faust smiles at Damien, glad to have another fellow here, though he had never met him before, being in different departments. "Unless there is some connection to the university?" he wonders.
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Faust looks at the wounded man. "I'm okay," he says with relief. "Don't forget, I am a professor and am quite adept with these chemicals. I don't require any medical supervision, though I would be interested in any treatments they have available." Standing up from his seated position against the wall, he says "What was your name again?"
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
The sickly-looking man leaning against the wall with his eyes shut listens to Morrick and then opens his eyes. Whatever he drank, he seems to be feeling better now, and his hands barely tremble anymore. "I am Professor Leoric Faust. I teach alchemy at the university. I can make various extracts. I am not a big fan of the fancier explosions, so I haven't delved into bombs much, though it is not a matter of knowing how. Until recently, I would not be much help getting us out of here, but I have been experimenting with some extracts that greatly increase my strength. It will be a great help to my son if--when--we find him."
Human Alchemist 1 | HP 18/18 | AC 15; Tch 12 | F +4; R +5; W +3 | Speed 25 ft | Morningstar: +3 (1d8+3) | Perc +1
Professor Faust unlocks any of the remaining cells and hands Damien the dagger. "I'm glad someone is taking charge," he says to Morrick and Damien. "Maybe now we can get out of here," he says, again coughing uncontrollably. Once the group finds the pile of gear, the alchemist looks excited and begins digging through the gear. "All is well!" he says as he finds his alchemist set. With trembling hands, he mixes a few of the reagents together and drinks it, then closes his eyes and leans against the wall, content.

Professor Faust's hands tremble violently as the anti-Damien heads for the door. He seemingly has no desire to stop it, but to get away from it. "What is...happening here?" he cries, his voice cracking with emotion. "We just need to get out of here. I...have a sick son. I need to find my chemicals and reagents, too. I have some...medication I need to take." Not attacking anything...

It's been tough figuring out when to use spoilers and when not since we've been together, then separated. I'll go ahead without, since there are a couple more of you here. Professor Faust listens to the lullaby playing, and his thoughts move quickly to his son. He could still be alive! I must get out of here! But just as abruptly, the vision changes, and he sees a gruesome scene instead of the hearing sweet music. He sits up from the cot, his adrenaline pumping but feeling like some of his reagents hadn't worked right. It takes him a moment to get his bearings. Confused, he sees two versions of Damien. "Damien...you were the other professor, right?" But then one of the Damiens tosses him some keys and asks him to open the door. "Okay! Whatever you say!" he calls back. He takes the keys and tries them until he opens the cell. When Morrick begins pointing the loaded crossbow, Professor Faust says "It's okay. You're in charge. I think we can get all this sorted out, can't we?" The efforts cause the man, already ashen in complexion, to cough convulsively. He looks to his hand and sees blood.
