Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Monster Encounter Matrix: 1d20 ⇒ 19

Monster Type: 1d100 ⇒ 45 Humanoid monster, group

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

What's East?: 1d20 ⇒ 15

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink is unable to find a spell that seems to fit the situation, so he goes back to his trusty stand-by. He sends shadowy tendris out to hinder one of the creatures.

attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Using my binding darkness school power on the nearest creature. It is entangled on a hit.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Praink tries to entangle the nearest foe in darkness.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

If I hit, it is entangled for 1 round.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"Who is the other annoyed individual? It strikes me that it is alone in its stance vis-a-vis the potential for danger. It hardly qualifies as a pair by itself."

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

I'm in the same boat as Bud.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink finds a room at the Shady Dragon, but he can't sleep until he's recorded his new knowledge. The next morning Praink emerges from the room with his slightly-thicker spellbook tucked under his arm and Ranny on his shoulder. "Shall we go?"

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

I want to copy the ant haul scroll we got earler into my spellbook, along with the two free spells from leveling up (scorching ray and shadow anchor), so I'll need 11 hours out of the dungeon (8 hours of sleep + 3 hours of copying). If I correctly understand how we're doing things, I don't need to roll for the two new spells (just spend the time), but I do need to roll for ant haul. So:

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25

I think that's a success! I think I'm ready now.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

No, in fact I say we go all the way back to town.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
binding darkness, ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 the target is entangled if I hit

"I would not advise engaging them closely. They can suck the life right out of you. As a matter of fact, I recommed running." A shadowy fog emanates from Praink's hand and tries to wrap itself around the legs of the nearest enemy. Then, Praink starts retreating.

Binding Darkness as a standard action, and then retrace my steps 20'.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Yes, I remember them; I loved them too.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"I feel rather strongly that we should not attempt to descend these stairs at this time. It is reaching that period of day in which it is customary for me to lie dormant as I recharge my arcane energy. I believe the less loquacious would say, 'You're keeping me up past my bed-time.'"

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Periodic check: 1d20 ⇒ 3 The passageway goes another 60', so 90' total.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

In keeping with the nature of this endeavor:

direction: 1d2 ⇒ 2

1=N, 2=S

Edit: Do we need to make another periodic check now?

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink sighs. "If we must continue, then I suppose that direction will be as good as any."

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"I suggest that we return to town. I am in need of entering a state of slumber for the purpose of recharging my arcane energy, and it would not hurt to engage in some commerce so as to prepare ourselves for delving deeper upon our return."

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"I believe the colloquial maxim for this occasion is, 'that would suck.'"

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"Now you're speaking nonsensically. You're clearly not Wight on the head.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"Oh, I won't be assisting my own discorpreation in that manner. However, I suggest you touch it, since it's clear you're already dead. What could it do to you?"

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

I would be OK with going to a lower level when we come back in, but not before we return to town to make our level 4 status official.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"It would be advisable for everyone to maintain their current spatial coordinates momentarily while I attempt to discern exactly the function of this statue. It is immensely powerful, and immensely dangerous. I definitely don't need any distractions, and--if only because the continuation of your biological functions increases the probability of the same result in my own case--I would hate for any harm to come to any of you as a result of your demonstrable ignorance."

I'll concentrate on it for the full three rounds, per detect magic, and the following are my Knowledge (arcana) check for the school(s) of the aura and the artifact's properties, should those be required.

Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink stretches out his finger, and a glob of acid shoots out towards the centipede in front of him.

ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 acid damage: 1d3 ⇒ 3

casting acid splash

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Initiative, Buu Style: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Praink pulls a bone out of his belt pouch and starts muttering. The bone begins orbiting his head.

casting defending bone.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

I think I'm ready.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

HP: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

What about the two free spells for my spellbook? Do I get those now, or do I have to leave the dungeon to get them?

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

trap type: 1d20 ⇒ 13 It's a melee attack trap.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Is Praink's detect magic picking up an aura from the champion's gear?

"Insufficient data exists regarding the desirability of the options presented. Recommend we perambulate along a randomly designated path. That is to say, for the simple-minded, 'it doesn't matter to me.'"

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Looked at from another angle, though, it really isn't all that much damage. It's 1d4/CL to one target, which is the same amount of damage burning hands (another first-level spell) does to as many creatures as you can pack into a 15 ft. cone. I rolled nearly max damage. It could just as easily have been 3 damage. Would you think that was OP?

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink begins dancing as he sings, "Drop it like it's hot!/Drop it like it's hot!"

casting burning disarm on the skeleton's sword.

Success on DC 16 Reflex save:
The skeleton drops his sword as it becomes too hot to handle. He will provoke AoOs if he tries to pick it up

Failure on DC 16 Reflex save:
The skeleton is unable to drop his sword in time, and it burns him. fire damage: 3d4 ⇒ (3, 4, 3) = 10

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Praink moves to where he can see the creature.
Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 Weaknesses? Immunities?

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Table V: 1d20 ⇒ 12 40'x40'
Table V.B.: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Monster!
Table VIII: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 CR 2
Table VIII.A: 1d20 ⇒ 7 sub-table 2
Table VIII.A.2: 1d100 ⇒ 78 undead-single

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink heads for the exit and pauses in front of it. He turns to Tofutee and says: "Would you care to inspect for the presence of unwanted complications? I will do the same.". If it's safe, Praink will motion to Tofutee to open the door.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Knowledge (local): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23

Praink walks over, careful to walk only on safe spaces, and looks at the book. Something is familiar about that title...Ah! He turns to the rest of the party and says: This picture-book is very rare. I estimate we can get about 100 gold coins for it."

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"Excellent. Where should we head next in our search for the tresspassing adventurers?"

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"Of course the trap doesn't let you out. Why would it?" Let's just not mention that I didn't think far enough ahead to figure out how she was going to get out...

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink does some quick calculations as he goes for a minimum-time descent for his fizzy min,er, compatriot.

Knowledge (dungeoneering): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

When Praink sees Misty point, his prodigious intellect jumps to the conclusion that Misty has found the treasure, and he immediately uses said prodigious intellect to push her in the direction she is pointing.

If I can see the bottom of the pit well enough from my vantage point that I can tell when Misty is about to hit the bottom, then I will send her down at max speed and put the brakes on at the absolute last second to keep her from hitting. Otherwise, I'll let her float down and hope we have enough time.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

North

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

I have to be within 30' for telekinetic charge to work, so I'll stay that far back.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Once we know where the treasure is, I can use my telekinetic charge SLA to lower somebody safely.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink rejoins the rest of the party and informs them that there's nothing worthwhile down the corridor he searched.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

When Praink sees that the passageway ends ahead of him, he hesitates. I don't really want to go down there alone, but procedures exist for a reason. Praink then heads to the dead end and checks for a secret door.

Perception, w/familiar bonus: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

I think I understand how this is supposed to work. I'll do the next passageway clockwise from the one for which Tofutee rolled.

Table 1: 1d20 ⇒ 2

The passageway goes another 60' down, and I roll again.

Periodic check: 1d20 ⇒ 1

Then it comes to a dead end.

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"I believe those," Praink points at the sacks, "contain our spoils. Grab them, somebody, and let's follow bacon-lady.".

GM:
I want to try to identify the aura. If I've already gotten to the point where I know that the aura is on Bud, then one more round should be enough to identify it. Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30[/dice]

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Praink recalls his familiar and looks around to see if he can find anything interesting in the room.

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18 and, as a reminder, i have constant detect magic

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"I am glad to see that you possess sufficient intellect to recognize the value of my work. I don't have any leeches, and I am unaware of any method for bringing about a stop to the exsanguinatory process that is peculiar to creatures of this ilk. Not that I'm very distressed about that particular fact: the fewer flighty, disorganized creatures around, the better. Mistress It'Dupree clearly needs to initiate a review of her hiring practices; one should hire only reliable, trustworthy minions, not ones that can disappear whenever they want and don't follow directions."

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"She's not undead. However, I'm not sure we can repose a great deal of trust in a hag."

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Caster level check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

"Original plan doomed; back-up initiated," Praink exclaims as he moves the illusory minotaur so that the net presumably marking the hag's location is directly between him and the illusion. Then, as he taps his lapel, he intones: "She seems to have an invisible touch-a." A little creature darts out of Praink's shirt, darting directly for the net's location.
moving the illusion to (-I, 25), casting chill touch, and having Ranny deliver the touch attack via sudden swoop.

Ranny, touch attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 28
Ranny, damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Ranny, miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 65
Hattie needs to make a DC 16 Fort save to avoid taking a point of Strength damage. I ceased concentration on the illusion, so it will dissipate at the end of my turn on Round 4. There are two more touch attacks left from the chill touch

Male Dark Contemplative Wizard (shadow illusionist) 4

Round 2, assuming that I can tell where Hattie is by the location of the net.

Praink pulls a piece of fleece out of his pouch and begins casting. The image of a duplicate Larg appears opposite the real Larg.

casting threatning Minor Image in (-H, 26) so that Hattie will be flanked. If Hattie interacts with it (however you decide to define that) the Will save to disbelieve the illusion is DC 18.
