Pava blinks awake just in time to see the Urgathoan reaching down for her scythe.

With an invisible sneer and all the force they can muster, Pava jams the blade of their klar up into Andaisin's armpit when she least expects it.

Andaisin's scythe clatters to the ground before Pava realizes that their nerveless fingers have released it. As they collapse, just before their cheek slaps against the floor and consciousness flees they have one last flight of fancy. Go on and pick it up; give Murder Bird just one chance...

Pava tries to howl in pain, but no sounds escape their strangled throat. Darkness swallows up the edges of their vision, only driven back by the jagged flares of pain that striking against a goddesses beloved has earned them.

But then... The smell of pasteboard, the scratch of a card's edge scraping a table. A respite.

They strike like a serpent, willing to fall themself if they can bring the architect of so many horrors to the earth with them!

It's a... plausible high jump for Pava to get in reach of her lol, but I'm hoping she'll just want the scythe back!

Pava discreetly kicks out the kneecap of the first zombie to rush past them, but only fully reveals their presence once the scythe drops. "Clumsy that," they chide Andaisin. "You're not supposed to keep hold of this as some sort of devotional or anything?" They scoop up the scythe, twirling it a bit off center of their true location, essentially heedless of the grease. "Bit gaudy for my tastes, but hey, findings keepings, yeah?"

"Couldn't have just handled this over a pint, nooo..." Pava mutters, then rushes into the room in as close to silence as they can manage.

"Right," Pava sucks in a breath through their teeth. "That is... definitely the villain." They look around to see if anyone else catches their meaning. "The evil ones certainly do have a look..."

I have a Dex belt already, but a +1 to everything isn't bad if it's just overflowing with charges.

Pava stays quiet. Arkminos isn't the first leech they haven't been able to stop. Spirits willing he'd be the last, but they have no expectations.

But they don't have to like it, and they don't have to pretend to think he's a proper person. They don't have to talk to him like one either.

Pava fishes out their own holy oils for a bit of battlefield anointment. They eye Elric with wary dismay, head cocked as if to ask "We can win, yeah?"

Pava is moving past the doorway so they can get a quick peek in, but trying to break LOS after that.

Pava darts into the room past Shrike, taking up a position behind one of the strange vats.

Eyeballing Elric's shots, it looks like Purple is real dead. So, if either the Purple door or the door Shrike is at is open, then Pava will move to the open door to take a look at what's going on, but I think we'll need more info for the turn.

Pava streaks up the steps in a blur, casually disemboweling the first cultist they come to as they try to keep the cultists from coming round to trouble the backlines. "You couldn't all rush me at once or something, yeah? Speed this up?"

Move in Surprise Round, beat hell out of yellow in round 1, 5' into their square if possible afterwards

"That was right clever with the wax there, Murder Bird. Glad you've spent time thinking about all that kind of nonsense. If it's behind magic traps and all I've been mostly leaving well enough alone, but that's becoming less and less a working option..."

Pava is right on Shrike's heels, pulling out their dagger for the quick work of slash and thrust.

There are certainly situations where Pava would want a less lethal approach, even if it's someone that we're there expecting to have to kill, but oh boy not these cultists. They have zero qualms.

Pava sighs, their shoulders slumping. "Even when you think it's all tied up in a bow..." They shake themself back to fierce alertness. "Tomorrow's trouble then. Let's have done with today's."

Nips at Heels nods, visibly relaxing as the sound of their own heavy breathing returns. Their normally sure fingers fumble with the flask, nerves jagged with adrenaline and overpowering relief. "A good job I've kept this nicely topped off." They offer it to Shrike with what probably counts as a smile. "Do the honors then? I've made my libations after all."

I'll want an RoP at some point, but it doesn't need to be now, so Shrike's welcome too it. I could **really** use the cloak though!

Pava leans and sways, fending off a strike with a sweeping back kick to earn space when suddenly Lamm's spell takes hold of their mind.

For an instant, Nips at Heels thinks that they should feign obedience, catch Lamm off his guard, but his leering, sneering face presents a problem. It just has to be broken.

A left cross that seemed to start somewhere around their toes leaves Lamm's nose a bloody smear, but they don't stop pummeling him backwards until Shrike's spear comes out the front. "How many? How many, you monster?! Gaekhen, Ivy, Timmeon, your own father?! How many!"

"Soldier boy!" Pava crows as arrows drop the foe before them, "I'm obliged." They slip invisibly into place, striking while Shrike holds his attention. They've seen the air itself repel Elric's arrows and Shrike's spear, so they trust only to their fists, hoping that the blessed whorls and spirals tattooed along the length of their long arms will be proof against Lamm's foul magic.

They square off against a pair of Lamm's followers, with a blindingly quick hook to the liver, hoping to take one out of the fight before it can properly begin.

"Odd. I get the masks and the black bags, but err, what are they on about with the onyx? Bit of a specific choice for a collection, innit?"

Love that plan. Maybe there's a magic trapped skeleton key!

Pava stands at rest, lightly balanced on the balls of their feet. "If there's no way else around them, Soldier Boy might could engage in a spot of impromptu redecorating?" They point their head at the lucerne hammer on his back.

"Queens can survive disasters, or even thrive in them. If you take away nine of a beggar's ten pinches, he can't buy a loaf of bread. Take away that portion of a queen's wealth, and what's left still buys her power - especially with dead and desperate folk not having nearly so tight a grip on what's left for them."

They sigh heavily, the road ahead seeming quite rocky, but Audria's question lets them focus on a single trouble. "You've got to remember Odds, most people don't know Mlle. Sabor. Enough don't know her that Her Dreadfulness was willing to lop off another blonde's head with nary a worry. All she needed was a pretty face to serve as the Awful Temptress and The Woman Scorned rolled into one. Why not pick the chit who if she's known at all is known to be in and out of the castle? The point was the killing of the king, not finding the perfect snare for Trinia."

Pava smirks, "Only seeing as I'm the one the axes and swords and things actually get swung at, but yeah, fair's fair and everyone'd prefer their hide stay in one piece."

Pava pulls out a sail and flicks it high into the air with a practiced wobble. "Tails," they say with a smirk, "I'm always lucky with tails."

Pava picks up another level in Brawler, I begin to correctly calculate the unarmed damage boost they got last level (oops), and it starts applying in part to other close weapons (daggers, klars, saps, etc). They also pick up the Shatter Defenses feat for even more flat-footed goodness, and get Brawler's strike to overcome DR with punches.

"Mm? Lovely bits in there. No harm getting a bit of a taste of all the Vudran silk, eh?"

"I don't know that we need to get too clever about his connections," Pava adds as they stop focusing on the lovelies, "It could be that Her Majesty is just dangerously sloppy when she makes her personnel decisions, but he didn't seem too terribly worried that throwing her name around would lead to her getting a close look at his project."

"Soldier boy's right. The truth shall set you free and all." Pava eyes Galewing. "How much does Beakbrain know about friends, not that it's of concern."

Pava grins, not used to the mask hiding their expression. "'Sides, they're slow on the draw."

"If that's going to happen, we may have to give Cressida the queen's excuse for her..." Pava scowls, unhappy with the compromise they can already feel coming. "We have Cressida cover it up. This was a place haunted by cultists who must have been only masquerading as the queen's physicians. She gets the people to healers who don't wear thrice-damned masks while the queen counts her blessings she doesn't have to kill everyone who ever heard about this."

They tilt up their mask to spit. "It'll all be part of the account come the day."

Pava can't get dex to damage with a rapier otherwise they'd be putting their hat in the rings. And they're wearing armor like that already!

Long-term they'll want an Amulet of Mighty Fists, but until then they would happily be the steward of the Amulet of Natural Armor

Pava's mouth twists wryly as they react with honest surprise to Kandru's complaint. "Did you hear the man talking about how he had the queen's ear? Do you really think that this would've been the time the Arbiters handed down something approaching justice."

With what's already starting to be the force of habit, they take up a place at Shrike's shoulder. "Murderbird's right. This doesn't end till we go below."

Pava's jaw drops. "Skies and burning stone - a Mantis!? At least if he's a lower member he might've been having us on about everything waiting in the wings to take vengeance on us for roughing up his person. Can't say as I'm sorry he's through breathing though."

Pava snorts. "And leave the Hells missing their newest devil?" They draw their knife, and put an end to him.

"Let's grab his papers, yeah? Can't say I put much stock in the idea he was laboring after a cure, but if there really were folk not catching the Veil for more reason than good fortune then the notes might help us." They clean their dagger and tuck it back into their sheath. "Even if he was just trying to sort out how to get all the right sorts sick."

So uhhhh. Does it need to be a readied action? Nips at Heels is ready to bring this interview to a close...
