M Maztican

can I still swing a maca if Im constricted?

If so....:
Otzali grunts in pain as the serpent squeezes him, but the young warrior grits his teeth and slashes at the beast.

If Not....:
Otzali grunts in pain as the serpent squeezes him. Unable to leverage his maca against the beast he grabs an obsidian knife and stabs at it instead (free action to drop maca, move action to draw knife).

Either Attack: 18 - 1d20 ⇒ 18 - (15) = 3
Maca Damage if able: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Knife Damage is not: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

M Maztican

With a loud curse, more berating himself than anything, Otzali resets his feet and takes another swing at the snake. Again the creature manages to evade the maca's obsidian teeth and again the young warrior lets out a loud curse.

Attack: 18 - 1d20 ⇒ 18 - (7) = 11 ah, 1st level.....

M Maztican

here

M Maztican

loot every possible building between here and the Cloak. wait, that sounds out of character for Otzali...... :)

M Maztican

Otzali shouts a warning to the others as he sees the submerged threat. Knowing the beast is certainly fast enough to strike them from that distance the warrior decides to take the battle to it instead and buy his companions the space they need to defend themselves.

Dont have my 2E book with me, can't remember if i can charge and attack in the surprise round?

If Not: Move 10' forward to be in melee with the thing, maca at the ready.

If So: charge 10' forward and miss it horribly!
Attack: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (3) = 16 unless AC 16 hits, hahaha

M Maztican

of course! not naive enough to think that its found this quickly but I am very curious about why the ogres were trying to break into this place.......

M Maztican

theres got to be SOME kind of entrance......right??

This is a city that was reclaimed mostly by the jungle.

Based on where this pyramid is in relation to the other buildings can we guess where the 'front' might have been and start searching for an entrance from there?

M Maztican

"What are they saying?" Otzali asks as his impatience grows. "Anything useful?"

The orcs were down at the bottom correct? any roadway or trail leading toward the pyramid that might indicate an entrance?

M Maztican

"Cant imagine this creature will have much to say, but question him quickly and be ready to hear lies."

M Maztican

"Not everything requires your cold steel to get done, outlander" Otzali says over his shoulder as he makes his way down the pyramid.

Based on growing up with these buildings, Otzali will search in the likeliest areas for there to be an entrance.

M Maztican

Otzali takes the ogre's tool but hesitates. "But why destroy the wall? This has stood here for years......there must be a way in without defiling it?"

M Maztican

"One step at a time." Otzali says, looking back and forth between Manauia and Ironspike. "I will see what the ogre wanted."

He takes the offered rope and begins making his way up.

The True World needs the Cloak in these dark times, but in the hands of the Realmsian?

M Maztican

Otzali looks at Al for a moment before nodding his agreement. "Better to kill them in battle than while they sleep, but since they have no honor they don't deserve death by combat....." While Ik'Skull tends to their companion's wounds the young jaguar moves down the pyramid to dispatch the sleeping orcs.

"Now let's see what the ogre was doing."

M Maztican

Otzali growls in anger, a guttural almost feline-like sound from deep in the back of his throat. Tightening his grip on the maca he lashes out at the ogre again. This time his aim is truer and the weapon's obsidian teeth rake across the creature's flesh.

Maca: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (19) = 0
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

M Maztican

sorry for the unannounced absence, had to unexpectedly go out of town for a funereal.

M Maztican

As the group moves to engage the ogre Otzali also drops his bow and wades into the frey. Trying to move around the others and get into position proves distracting to the warrior and his strike also goes wide.

Maca: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (3) = 16

M Maztican

Seeing the creatures below fall prey to the foreigner's magics, Otzali turns back to the ogre with a grim look. And now for you...

With practiced motions the warrior draws his bow and looses an arrow at the unaware beast.

Shortbow attack: 1d20 ⇒ 14 hits AC6
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Shortbow attack: 1d20 ⇒ 20 ROF is 2/1, so hits AC0
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

M Maztican

Otazi creeps back and confirms Khalidas suspicions. "the orcs are on the second tier, the ogre above. Can't tell what he's doing but his four friends are trying to break in. "

He gazes up the steep steps of the pyramid, wondering if it can be used to their advantage against the powerful beast.

M Maztican

Heading out for weekend with no access, i'll be back on Monday!

M Maztican

or something: 1d20 ⇒ 9 dont have any skill or prof in stealth, but if that was a hunting check to stalk prey I would have made it.....?

M Maztican

Otzali motions for silence as he hears the sound of voices. "For an abandoned ruin there seem to be many people here."

He looks to the two newcomers. "More friends of yours?"

Can Otzali climb up 4 or 5 levels then start making his way around the pyramid to the other side? idea would be to do some recon from above to avoid notice but still be close enough to see/hear whats going on.

M Maztican

Otazi does his best to divide his vigilance between the two newcomers.

any idea what the other is?

M Maztican

Me too!

M Maztican

His bow still in his hands, otazi slowly nocks another arrow, ready to protect the plumaweaver if her gesture of greeting is met with violence.

M Maztican

Animal Lore vs 15: 1d20 ⇒ 14 does Otzali (just barely) know anything about what would cause this unusual behaviour?

Seeing the birds on the offensive, Otzali's warrior instincts kick in. In a single fluid motion he unshoulders a short bow, fits an arrow to the string, and releases at the circling vulture.

Shortbow Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

M Maztican

Leaving this morning for a week of Scout camp with my son. spotty reception but I will try my best to keep posting. feel free to bot me as needed.

M Maztican

Unless Ik'Skull senses something to hold us back I say we go in.

M Maztican

Otzali looks around, saddened at the state this place has fallen into but well aware that it is the way of the True World.

"Anything we find thats valuable or useful will help us along the way. Let's keep exploring."

M Maztican

"I've seen few signs as well." Otzali holds up a good condition obsidian blade. He tucks the weapon into his belt and follows behind the pluma weaver.

M Maztican

Otzali also nods his agreement. "The Land guided us here. We should see why."

"Ik'Skull, any warnings?"

M Maztican

Otazi shakes his head at the obvious omission. "I carry little, too little it would seem. We will have to make due. "

Trying not to touch the webbing he peers past it into the passageway, hoping to find torches waiting for them in sconces just inside the entrance.

M Maztican

Trying to remember if there's a ranger equivalent ? We could use some better woods lore !

M Maztican

DEX check vs 15: 1d20 ⇒ 12

Otzali also stares at the water in horror. We are their guides, we should have known.......

Visibility shaken but determined to move forward the warrior follows the same path through the trees as the others did. Clearing the bank he turns to again consider the place where their companion disappeared.

"The True World can be as deadly as it is beautiful. We must remember that."

M Maztican

dang, I posted an animal lore check asking about dangers in the river right after Meri's post, don't see it above so in guessing the Boards ate it. Sorry meri!

M Maztican

no chance that animal lore check would have told otazi of the danger in time to warn her? She did need time to take off her armor ....

M Maztican

how far can we see up or down river? any chance theres a bridge somewhere within view? or a natural ford we can see?

M Maztican

While the road is obviously in disuse, Otzali kneels down to examine the area for tracks. Wonder if we're the only ones who have been through here.......

he doesnt actually have tracking, but.....
Hunting: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6 vs 15, hoping that knowing about stalking prey taught him maybe a little about looking for signs of prey?

ok, Im reaching, but worth a shot!

M Maztican

Animal Lore: 1d20 ⇒ 20 BOOM!

"The jungles of the True World are always alive with sounds and life." He glances at the two Realmsians. "Nothing will ever change that."

In contrast to his confident words Otzali checks his maca again, confirming it is ready to draw at any moment.

M Maztican
Ik' Skull wrote:
"Know that they are with child, and ask if we have things made of our own hands for their child."

"I cannot perform Hishna yet. I've made obsidian weapons but they might not be a good gift......"

Otzali bows deep as the treants take their leave, making a mental note to have a better gift ready when they return this way.

"Don't want to delay the quest, but I am curious to see this place."

M Maztican

ive got Payit only.......but we can make due I think.

M Maztican

which I now realize he does not speak...

M Maztican

Otzali speaks common to the party......and Payit with Ik'Skull when we want to talk ABOUT the party. :)

M Maztican

While Otzali has been trained to be comfortable in the wilds of the jungle, this is not something he has experienced before.

He checks his maca to make sure its ready but does not draw the weapon.

"We mean no disrespect, we are simply traveling through. May we pass?"

M Maztican

Otzali nods his agreement, gesturing the band forward so he is the last to leave the chamber. He gives a slight bow to the empty room, his mind assuming that the creature has not left but rather returned to its unseen state. With one final look at the collected items, he turns to follow the others out.

Ik'Skull:
"Did you trust them before?" His face is stoic but his shoulders do slump at the news.

"Even these others, who seem decent enough, should not be trusted. Think about how they have treated our people since they got here,"the stoic face turns into a sneer at the word 'treated', his feelings on the matter all too obvious.

"Do you believe for a second that we can let any of them touch the Cloak?"

M Maztican

Otzali lowers his eyes, humbled by being so close to the magnificent beast. Ashamed of the way he just spoke to it.

He again glances towards Ik'skull, wondering if the weaver might not be their best chance of getting real answers from the couatl.

M Maztican

Otzali returns Ik'Skull's look with a confused look of his own. This strange way of 'talking' sounds like nothing his limited training has taught him about pluma or hishna.

Disregarding the warning in his gut the warrior asks, "And should we not be wary of meeting you as well?"

M Maztican

Otzali remains silent, unsure of what offering he could make from among his humble belongings, and unsure what question he would ask even if he had a worthy tribute.

The courage of the foreigners impresses him as he stays off to the side alone with his thoughts.

M Maztican

Otzali climbs the stairs cautiously, looking from side to side for any type of evidence that might give them a clue to what the group might find inside. He pauses at the doorway to again examine the carvings and signs.

Anything about the symbology that tells us something about the pyramid? any significance to the music playing??

Seeing Merisiel about to step forward Otzali reaches out a hand to touch her arm.
"We don't know who's in there. Maybe we should show them a ... local face..... first?"

Taking a deep breath and readying his maca, Otzali takes the lead and steps through the doorway. unless the symbols/music give us some other type of warning, of course!

M Maztican

posting this in all my games......heading to the airport tonight to take the family to Disney World for a week. Please feel free to bot me as needed since I will probably be checking infrequently and only have my phone for posting. Thanks!
