Think I might have to back out. The 1 per day post rate seemed doable, but for the past few days I haven't managed to get anything done. Sorry, good luck on the game.

Still working on the character, but I think I've narrowed her down to an evoker wizard forced out of her alma mater in the aftermath of an experiment gone wrong. The only way back into their good graces, it seems, is to become part of an expedition to Chult.

Not last round, not enough actions. But I see it wasn't necessary.

Otho brigs round the rope from earlier and ties Rogi quickly. By god he would beat the hell out of the skulk later. He did not like the look of the blood pool forming under Kali.

Owl wasn't the only one caught off guard. The sudden reveal and shift in the situation tripped up Otho too. Good thing he was adept at setting things right. He leapt towards Rogi, tackling the skulk while Lia's spell was still in effect.

He glances at Owl and cocks his head to the side. He wanted to talk as soon as the skulk made his exit. Provided he got the message, Otho stepped away from the group and began to whisper.

"Think you can tail him when he goes?"

Otho grudgingly took the hand and stepped off to the side with Lia to nurse his wounded pride. Least everybody was safe and they found a lead, provided the skulk told the truth.

With no time to waste, Otho leapt to wedge himself in the closing gap. There was no time to think about whether the floor would crush him or not. He hoped the gears driving the thing were too delicate for that. While he was stuck there he scrambled for a rope to drop down to Kali and whoever else was shouting down there.

Otho nods and follows Kali in. If it came down to it he was reasonably certain he could break any mechanisms that they could throw at him.

Otho kept his mouth shut and his eyes open. He too wanted to see the vault and followed along quietly. He had no desire to offend the widow right now.

Otho took a moment to look around before settling in to small talk and questions. He knew, from what the sheriff told them, that this looked like a smash and grab. With no windows and one way in and out their perpetrators couldn't know what they were grabbing unless they used magic, visited beforehand, or had inside information. So what was out of place here?

"You ever seen a barn cat hit a mouse?" Otho asked Kali and Owl while they walked, but continued on before anyone could answer, "Hits 'em like a ton of bricks, usually after a leap or a jump. It breaks the back and lets the cat play with it's food for a bit. Whatever hit Walder didn't do it like a cat, big or small, just mauled him real good. Bit stupid too. A cat would make sure it's prey couldn't get away."

Considering that they had access, Otho went with the others to look at the body. As he looked it over, he tried to reason out how the attack would have played out. If he remembered right a sphinx was supposed to be like a big cat with wings. That meant a totally different fighting style when compared to a man. Cat's would pounce and maul but a man would aim.

"Hey Kali, could you lift the body up. I want to try something."

Otho assumed a fighting stance and approached as he figured the attacker must have, first as a man with claws and then low to the ground like a cat.

Perception aid another: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17

If it will help Otho will spend a use or more of martial flexibility to play out how the attack might have happened.

"I'd vote for the murder site. Might be a good way to prove the sphinx didn't do it. But the body honestly might tell us a bit more. If it were man-made claws, we'd be able to tell. I'd think the widow would want us to get the 'right' killer."

Otho wisely left out the fact that he used to be the one that ended up coercing their scapegoats. Debts to repay indeed. For him the murder site seemed the best place to break up the case against Jherizhana. But there was also something to be said for killing two birds with one stone.

"Maybe we should split up. Half of us hit the murder site and see what we can find and the rest go to the Locked Box."

That was that. It seemed like an honest answer. Now for the tough stuff.

"So like I said, who's being implicated in particular? Anybody have a problem with them? Who died? Did they know each other?"

Owl was an ass. Otho had been trying to give the man the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he had some point he was making or just being flashy again, that snide overconfidence that rubbed him the wrong way? No. As Kali fell to the ground and Otho's hackles raised, the big man knew the answer. Owl was an ass.

He quietly offered Kali a helping hand. Whether or not she took it, Otho kept his distance, more afraid of getting himself run out of town than of Owl himself. The news of the murder only soured the mood of the morning even further. A real shame since it had started out so good.

"I'll take up the contract," Otho spoke more for his own conscience than anybody else, "But I've got to make sure, honest to the gods, did you people do the deed? And who's being accused anyway?"

Otho gave up on the other plates, rose, and stretched before looking over the others.

"Figure we've all got some choices to make. I'm going to stick around for a bit. Make sure our lordship don't amble in and make a mess of the kid's reunion. Might as well see what Almara wants while I'm at it. What about the rest of you?"

Overnight healing with the blood paste: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Otho actually felt pretty good. He wasn't at his best, but at least he'd applied the paste before passing out. To celebrate all their good fortune he was currently wolfing down everything in front of him. His eye even traveled towards the leftovers on the plates of his companions. He felt so good, in fact, that the arrival of the worker didn't bother him at all.

"Who was Delisen again?"

Everyone should be getting about 8 gold, 3 silver, and 3 copper from the reward loot if we divide it evenly. This leaves 2 copper left over. Otho will be paying in 19 of the 30 gold for his block.

In return for the block Otho hands back nineteen gold to Kali.

"Fairs fair," he mumbles and actually manages to sound somewhat sheepish as he does so. It would probably look adorable from someone not covered in their own blood.

Been looking over the setting document again. I think that if Daerdryn's power had a source, it most likely would have been Tanskani. Still, no plans to change anything from my app. I like Daerdryn not knowing where it came from. I really like the other characters so far. Wish we could all end up in the game.

"Adulation is the trap of fools." Pastor back home used to say that a lot. Otho, like the rest, just ignored the impromptu sermons. It felt good to get recognized for something decent for once. Almost as good as the time he'd cleaned out the Pet. "Dragon Wrestler." He might just have to hold on to that one for a while.

As Jix goes running off it has the expected effect. Otho nearly topples. Once again, thank the gods for Tish. Perhaps he really should give her the benefit of the doubt more often. Same with Owl.

"Pa always said I should have been a wrangler. I mean, I can handle Scoot well enough."

The mention of the stubborn oxen is not a point in his favor.

"Wouldn't want to share the carriage with him though."

Being the center of attention with Jix singing his praises. Any other time he might have been a little bashful. Right now he just hoped someone would bring him a drink.

It was all he could manage. The whole thing was surreal at this point. But he forged on.

It felt like a buzz, the kind one gets from a little hit of pesh. Otho tried to stay away from the stuff, too addictive, but the womans touch felt like that. That worrying elation.

Other things had more of his attention though. Before the smoke went up he'd seen Lia and the rope, so tying the beast down seemed like the best bet at this point. At least he didn't have to worry about Thomias and his mother getting torn up.

Otho will use martial versatility again to gain Improved Grapple and lose the bull rush feat.

"Don't want to move... Fine. Then you stay on the ground."
