Now that the fight is over- Now I remember where I left my trident. It's in the wagon. Fine bit of thinking that was. I examine the bodies. will Heal give me an idea how long dead? And original cause of death? --Perhaps niel's been watching to many forensic shows. If this is the father, I hope I'm not the one to tell the family. This day has brought many questions. like:
What's an "elman"? Why do you think the windmill began turning recently? What did Constable Wygard's morning look like? My thoughts: "Gunlar found the cave and 'treasures' by swimming thru water. It seems he led his Father and Constable Wyn thru the waters to it or intended to. Perhaps he's needed because he knows where? Or because he carries some mark of 'first to find'? Or can pass thru some trap a Shadow cannot." "'Elman' seems to refer to the Constable, so maybe 'lawman'?" (Like copper or pig) (unless it was some sort of life/unlife reference) "The windmill was used to drain a mine- So maybe the question should be 'Who started the windmill and which cave is it draining?" "Wyn's day would have started with joining the Father to search, then they found trouble. Wyn was bitten, Wyn escaped. Somehow he got to town in his condition, though he had no horse nor the time to get to the Inn from here." "Who knew he was coming here? How did he get to this farm?" "Also, did anyone see the direction the smaller shade fled in? In his haste to depart, he may have pointed us in an important direction."

If Yalka was able to foil the bullrush with her A of O:
I lean towards Kara and say "This may help" then cast 'Light' on her weapon. "It seemed to touch the stove and flue- maybe it is somewhat solid to earth and stone?" I know I'm grasping at straws with this, but it must have some vunerability to something. If time and actions permit, I will toss the lit slingstone into the Shadow. It's lead, not stone, but either density or light may effect the Beasty, especialy in it's present 'frightened' state. I call out loudly, "They can be affected by the Rainbringer's divine presence- Who needs me?"
GM Chris wrote: The Shadow turns and attacks Orislav, moving into and through his square. (Kara, Yalka, and Orislav himself would get attacks of opportunity, but they would pass through this nimbus of evil.) Orislav, you can see two piercing red eyes in the shadow, and its features otherwise suggest a halfling, bearded, wearing nothing other than loose breeches, its features lurid in anticipation as its hand reaches inside your chest, (1d20 + 3 = 9) , but the light you're holding disorients it. It lands on the top of the stove in J15, clutching the flue pipe that leads to out the ceiling. It appears outraged for an instant, and then its grin returns. thought registers- What is the stove and flue made off?
GM Spoiler:
full defensive for rnd 2 is correct. So no attacks of opp. Intent was to knowledge check while full defensive and pass on what he remembers. On round three, he will attempt Channel energy (1d6 dam, Will save for 1/2 dam only 12; failure results in full dam and must flee as if frightened for 1d4+1 rnds). This will be third use of Chan Eng today, so only three left. Questions about Storm Burst are concerned with future uses, so that you could think about it before I did anything with it. brandishes holy symbol (taking comfort in its presence) "Feel the full hammer of the wind and be scattered as smoke before the might of Gozreh, Master of Storms!"
I go full defensive as I try to remember as much as I can about Shadows (and where I left my trident- I'm forever setting it down. I really need to pick up a side arm.) I'll pass on as much as I remember by shouting the info for all to hear. As I recall, undead are immune to nonleathal dam. My domain power 'Storm Burst' causes nonlethal dam with an additional effect of a -2 penalty to attack rolls for 1 round (no specifics about whether there is a save). How will this work with Shadows? (Are they immune to the minus because of undead status? Insubstantial status? Not immune?)
"I was born near here, on a small farmstead south of town. But I haven't been there in years. I was actually looking for Deputy Win when I came into town this morning, intending to ask him whether anyone was living there now." "I hope he's doing better." "When I was a boy, I spent alot of time exploring the woods and streams around the farm. Do you suppose this boy we seek to protect has done the same? And perhaps found some relic or the clue to wealth?" "If I were planning on making some attack on a farmstead, I think I'd keep an eye on it until I did. That way I could be sure to catch my targets at home or learn where their wealth was kept. Perhaps the bandits Win fears has done the same. Would scouting ahead be a good idea? We might be able to capture a spy and learn from him." rise from my seat in the wagon, so I can get a look at the other wounded, to be sure the bandaging is still secure Oops, did I do heal checks on all? And, if so, how many uses should I deduct from the Healer's Kit? According to the skill description, it would really only help if someone has a 'deadly wound'. And a deadly wound (?) would require 5 uses from a kit.
GM Chris wrote: (Orislav could call down another blast of positive energy, though. If he did so after, say, the four hours, the horses would arrive with no damage and no fatigue.) So let it be done. So let it be written. I'll make sure anyone wounded (like me) is within range. Do I see that anyone else still needs healing after channeling?
GM Chris Spoiler: GM wrote: Orislav, using Heal to provide first aid or to treat poison is a standard action that would invite an Attack of Opportunity, but only if you're within range. You could move 5' to G7, and be next to Kara, but outside the hobgoblin's range. Then 5' step to G7 and heal check for Kara it is.
Wagoneers Spoiler:
Would a heal check on Kara cause attack-of-opportunity? (before or after 5' step) If not, that's my action. If not possible, Is Brach dead or at neg? Best second option being channel energy, but not if it brings the 'accuser' around. Third option, Cure Light on Kara. Chris, 'Wooden Fist' definitely non-leathal, but the wording was odd enough I wasn't sure about armed or not. Your ruling is fine unless Jason tells us different. I don't see me getting 'Improved Unarmed Combat', though Varisian scarf is a possibility- I can see the acrobats being trained in it as part of the routines and as a weapon. I'd have taken it as the bonus martial for human, except it's exotic. Also, sorry about slow posting lately. I've been spending time with The Beloved Wife and dealing with some minor health issues.

GM and the Warriors of the Wagon Spoiler: I think 'order of the night vipers'? and their 'divine lord'? What? Worry about that later.
(from H6) I will target Brach's horse as soon as he is within range with a [Storm Burst 1d6+1 dam (nonlethal) / 30' rng / also causes -2 penalty on attack rolls for 1 round (Su)] (attack = +2 ranged touch ; dam ) (1d20+2=16, 1d6+1=2 ) Chris, I am not sure if the penalty-on-attacks has a save or not, but I'm hoping to make Brach lose control of his horse with this attack of buffeting-rain-and-wind.
GM and Wagoneers Spoiler: if Kara has time to get to trees before being seen "Go and take this." hand her my sling and bag of stones take my place behind Martaug and Valdisara who are in column E or F, row 5 to 7??; which puts me in column G, row 6; all of us facing towards the left side of the map after seeing the approaching riders
"If they're running, we need to know what panicked them. Valdisara, should I get their attention with a 'storm burst' in front of them, so you can try talking?"
GM and teamsters Spoiler: Is there anything about the terrain that could give us an advantage? Perhaps a bit of shrubbery that could conceal one of the martial types to allow a surprise/flank attack? I take a place behind my companions, ready to support them. I look over my shoulder, checking that our driver is in cover. "Once they are close, I intend to share one of the small bursts that the Father of Winds has given me. It's not very powerful, but it may hinder its target for a bit. Shout out if one target seems better than another." I'm refering to the Weather domain power 'Storm Burst'
GM, Kara, Martaug, and Valdisara Spoiler: would it be accurate to say that a healthy caution keeps you on the look-out for trouble?
yep Seeing the black armored figure skulking has left me spooked. To calm myself and inspire my companions, I recite the seventh canticle of 'Hymns to the Wind and Waves' which instructs us that the storms which shape our lives are destined to nurture the strong and winnow the weak, allowing the forest to grow and survive.
"Let me see that ankle. I can do a quick splint for you until you can get a real Healer to do a better one." I'll do a practiced job on her ankle- I've worked on broken bones with some of the acrobat trainees often enough. Is that sufficient or should I 'cure lt' or channel energy? Part of what I'm asking is if a cure is going to fix a broken bone. I've had GM's who prefer to fix regular damage with 'cures' but only use Heal checks for bones and other criticals. What's your preference?
Looking beside me I see the paladin, the well equipted warrior, the half-ork, and the exotic beauty (who looks to be my age). We are approached by three livery'd toughs who appear to covent our teamster's dray horses.
[seeing the injured woman causes me to hop down from the wagon]

Cacophonik wrote: I don't think we will end up going to the farm at all - it seems that the bandits are hiding somewhere close (how far can a severely poisoned man with a broken arm wobble in 30 minutes, anyways?) and if we find out where in a timely fashion, we should be able to fall upon them before they leave to attack the Rolsens, since I would assume they are mounted, for getaway purposes at least. Agreed. But the variables exist. Perhaps Win was riding back from the lair, and either fell off or lost his horse due to the poison effects. (which may account for some of his injuries) So the lair could be farther away. Or there could be something about the bandits (possibly a hundred years old, references to magic spears confiring invisibility, etc) that means it would be difficult to catch tham at a base or hideout. We have such a large party that we have options and can get moving and do investigations as well.
Deserach thought
Actually, I figured you'd go with Grumble- the 30 minutes till meeting time you suggested should allow you to join him and ride in the wagon with us. The 'Grumble and riders' group was to allow investigation rather than just charging to the farm in one group. (Which is not the way it reads when I look at what I wrote. Sorry about that. I also apologize to all as it seems rather bossy in tone.)
"If Grumble knows someone who call tell us where the bandits lair could be, he must speak to him. But Win has charged us with the safety of the Rolsens. Until we know more, we should first look to protect them.
to Tepetta, as I pick up the backpack I had set down outside the inn
respoding to Martuag "He's right, those wounds would have prevented a long journey. And, while I don't know where the brigands lair, we do know where they're going." Hearing of the offer to hire a wagon "I don't have much, but I can add to the pot for the hire fee."
"And my name is Orislav, I'm a follower of the Stormlord." it seems rude to continually refer to my god by his first name, so expect euphumisms
GM wrote: Orislav, would you please describe what everybody else sees when you channel positive energy? I see the horrible injuries this man has sustained and gain an instant respect for his strength of will, for it was will that enabled him to bring word of the creatures that attacked him. Flesh alone would have failed. A glance past his injuries to his face brings recognition, for this is Deputy Win, the very man I was seeking. But enough thought, Win needs more from me. There is a place inside me where Gozreh has always dwelled. All my training and my initiations have done is allow me to touch that place.
At first, there is a feeling of change in the air. Similiar to the indescribable sense a man will sometimes have that rain is on the wind. That quickly changes to a fleeting touch of thunder, and the flash of lightning. Then the rain comes, but not as chill water or harsh hail. It is rather as if the clean water reaches within, passing through the flesh, and reaching the soul. Then the touch is gone, leaving in its wake that sharp snap a seed gets when the shoot breaks free of the soil. The effect is over in an instant, almost before it is felt.
The first healing done, I muster my training in the healing art and begin treatment of the wounds themselves.Heal check +11, with a +4 if Pathfinder uses the same 'aid another' rule as 3.5 (a quick look at 3.P fails to find that rule; is that a change or is it somewhere I'm not looking?) I roll a d20 for whoo-hoo 18, giving a total of 33! On a poison check, this replaces Win's saving throw with my heal check. (and takes one use from my Healer's kit)
Orislav approaches the inn where he has been told to ask after the Constable, who is known to lunch there. There seems to be some sort of a commotion going on. "I've only returned to Carrion Hill this very morn. Have the storm clouds begun gathering already?" he thinks to himself. Orislav (he rarely uses the first name he shares with his father) knows Win from his childhood. Win was suspicious of the elder Milos' story and kept an eye on the father and son. It was Win who guested the boy until his Aunt arrived to take him in. And it is Win the young cleric plans to ask about the legalities (and realities) of moving into the small cottage that he was born in.
GM Chris,
Trait= Brother to Acrobats: Raised within a group of acrobats, the characters' constant exposure to their skills has allowed him to add Acrobatics to his list of class skills (And gives a +1 to that skill?). It fits in with my character story. And yes, I did spend too much time watching Olympic gymnastics. But they were just fantastic this year.

When I read the alpha, I was immediately hooked. I was inspired to build a character I'd always passed on- a specialist wizard. I usually have so much trouble choosing which schools to give up, I just play a straight wizard. But the new pathfinder specialist grabbed me. When we got hints from Jason on alpha 2, I was captured by the idea of a sorcerous Bloodline. I thought here's a hook that will make a sorcerer I'd want to play. Thus Igor was born. I dived right in after a quick read of the revelant sections and posted the result. At present, I'm not satisfied. I think my emphasis is too much on necromancy, instead of concentrating on being kin to the dead. My fault for drifting from sorcerer to wizard. What are your suggestions for a do-over? First would be a different race. Halfling adds nothing to the class, though I do like them. What changes should be made? Is another bloodline going to make the character? The goal of this is to see whether I can build a bloodline sorcerer that I can show to someone who hasn't read the alphas and get them to try Pathfinder. I can already do this with fighter, rogue, cleric, and wizard, but I figure if I can convince me to play a sorcerer, I can convince anyone in my group. That said, the stated parameters are:
I'll give Igor a second try, this time at fourth level so I can multiclass if necessary. Please chime in with ideas. I want to feel the same about the sorcerer as I do about the core classes. Either way this comes out- Jason and all: I am loving being a part of your creative process. Pathfinder is a pleasure to tinker with. P.S. Please can I have an arcane bond like the wizard? I would love a familiar or a bonded item. Though I probably don't need the extra spell from the bonded item, I would like the crafting ability. Maybe let the item give me a sudden metamagic feat or let me cast touch spells through it instead of the extra slot?
Check out proflie for my quick test build of Igor. My early build impressions: -Under bloodline feats for undead: Skill Focus (K(religion)) sounded cool until I realized K(rel) wasn't a class skill; Spell Focus(Necro) sounded obvious until I went to choose spells, then Toughness sounded better for the early levels. -Skill choices: I wanted to get intimidate, but the size modifier kills the idea of my 'undeadness' frightening folks; Deception has been broken apart and only bluff is a class skill; So I went with the standards and taxidermy. -spell choice: I had forgotten that I would need 'read magic' to avoid rolls to use scrolls (Wizards get it free- why not sorcerers?), 1st level necro spells left me uninspired as chill touch overlaps the bloodline ability, ray of enfeeblement is a favorite- but not as the only attack spell, and cause fear is short duration. I went with mage armor for defense and found 'Backbiter' in spell comp.- which made spell focus more attractive. I like the idea of only attacking those who attack me. -I was disapointed to not get the arcane bond. I was looking forward to my 'one ring' after seeing it was possible to combine enchantments in one item. This left me feeling shorted. I was also disappointed not to have any undead polymorph spells. While I won't get any such spell for many levels, it sounded like it would fit my bloodline to turn into undead with a short-term spell. Early Impression: I came into this build excited with the bloodline, but it didn't last. I didn't get the feel I expected from the bloodline as it had limited effect on my spells. I guess I expected a bloodline to define a theme to my spellcasting, but it didn't seem too. Perhaps after I add some levels. My basic impression: I would definately take a few levels of Sorcerer, but, unlike the wizard class, I would definately multi-class and the sorcerer levels would be the add to the other class, not the reverse. Maybe monk/sorcerer or the obvious cleric/sorcerer. Barbarian/sorcerer would also be interesting, but I haven't gone into the Pathfinder barbarian yet |
