I greatly miss it as well, and Paizos run of it was the best era of it hands down. Its what got me back into playing dnd. Didn't Hasbro make WOTC axe it? If so its another reason to opt for pathfinder over 4ed.

For me as a DM its all about context more then powers, which is manly a mechanics issue. If I was going to use those creatures in way consistent with traditional folklore I'd open up a Brian Froud book, let the feeling his art evoked in me get worked up, and take it from there. To use the Fomorians I'd try to portray them in some sort of atavistic, primordial, and chthonic manmner-

I'm totally with you. It's unfortunate Hobs in D&D have always been so bland. I hope Paizo will kick them up a notch after the good stuff they've done with goblins. IMC Hobgoblins have always been the major villians. They are organized and ruthless. Ready to crush all lesser races beneath their jackboots. If Orcs are the Hells Angels, Hobgoblins have the potential to be the Nazis of fantasy realms. Major baddies.

In my own personal setting Hobgoblins are a major faction. I present them as a disciplined warrior nomad culture who get around on dire boars. Kind of like Mongol raiders with a solid hierarchy and order.

Is this book inspired by this article that has been around for awhile?
