Not really violent, but he wouldn't take any slights from anyone. That said, I'm not entirely sold on race yet, just that it would be Human, Half Orc/Elf or Oread. Oh, and he'd have a bit of a keleshite accent, so that makes it clear he at least wouldn't be jadwiga.

Cool, thanks. I'll get working on it. Bjorn Stonehand wrote: Just a forewarning, Oreads are going to get just as much discrimination as cat-people (at least from Bjorn that is). =P The difference would be that while Oliar ignored you, the new guy would probably punch you in the face ;)

At lower levels they indeed are strong, but that gets less the higher you go, especially when not playing an actual Gunslinger (especially the Musketmaster archetype) which I don't want. What do know though is that on second thought I won't go ranger, as they don't actually get a battered gun (nor proficiency for that matter) and the cost of such a weapon is just ridiculous and I suspect availability in this AP would be almost nil unless I start with one or build one myself. So instead he'd either be a Cavalier using the Musketeer and Luring Cavalier archetypes or a Paladin with Holy Gun archetype. As for race, I was thinking either a Human or Half-human, or a someone tainted by the mana wastes in the form of an Oread.

How do you feel about firearms GM? I have an idea for a Trophy Hunter/Trapper ranger who (if you're ok with it) eventually takes the Shieldmarshal PrC (he arrives as a shieldmarshal in training and I understand if you rule he can't get 10th level or at least the 10th level feature) The basic idea is that he indeed come from Alkenstar in the Mana Wastes, which also explains his late arrival, and he has met the professor in Absalom. The professor and he basically talked for hours about life in the Mana Wastes, a place that no doubt had a great draw in the professor for it's mutagenic properties. EDIT: If anyone else is against firearms and considers them a severe problem/immersion breaker/something else, please say so as well.

Ugh, sorry for my absence, completely lost track That said, as Haldhin knows I'm actually not really enjoying Oliar and I'd like to retire him one way or another and bring in fresh blood (not really enjoying the character probably was part of the reason I lost track) Just for an overview, we have a Monk, a Fighter, an Oracle and a Wizard? BTW, what were creation rules again? Can't seem to find them.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar didn't pay much attention while the other went about Gibs' place. The man was behind it, it was clear as day. Sadly the people here were thick as two wooden planks and he didn't have the money on him to bribe someone. *** Oliar quickly ran upstairs at Kendra call. When he saw Gunther laying there he backed up a bit. He just hoped none of his current companions were stupid enough to think cats could steal someone's breath, that stupid superstition had gotten him into trouble before.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar, who had stayed behind with his hood up, cleaning his claws, simply not to provoke the overly suspicious commoners now approached and dropped the hood. "What's happening? First crazy pigs and now crazy farmers? I should have stayed in Druma." At least there everything could be traced to money. Can't ever get a 25 on Sense Motive so not even trying
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Oliar grins at Alexei even though he doesn't have a clue what the man just said, "அதேபோல் என் நண்பர்." He then switches to the common tongue, "It looks like you'll be eating pork tonight!" He extends his claws (not an actual action) but isn't fast enough to actively intercept the pigs. Catfolk:
"Likewise my friend.' Yes, that is a real language, it's Tamil
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Sense Motive 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Oliar nodded when others suggested moving on, "We have two more farms to visit. We can come back later when Gibbs has cooled down." Or they could come back when he was sleeping and simply take the guy with them. Pull up some hoods and they could blame the cultists.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Sense Motive 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 Oliar nods at Alexei's comment, the man was hiding something. He hoped the man would spill the beans now he knew they saw through him, otherwise there might be need for some old fashioned breaking and entering to recover the information. Would be a nice change of pace though.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Scent Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 While the others are talking Oliar sniffs the piece of wood. "Perhaps I can help trace the thing. I'm not much of a tracker but my sense of smell is a lot better than all of yours and I doubt the perpetrators counting on someone smelling them out."
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar smiled at Korvus, "Sure, we just need to pass by Ghoroven on the way there so he can pull his strings." When the Half-Orc more or less gave the Ulfen the green light to silence the sheriff Oliar rolled his eyes. Some people were so naive, it was a miracle they still lived.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Did the Ulfen just conveniently "forget" about their access to the Town Hall library? "We don't have to ask the sheriff. Ghoroven opened up the Town Hall library for us. Should be in the books there." He had been right to keep an eye on the Ulfen, there definitely was something fishy going on with him.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Sense Motive 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Oliar keeps an eye on both Kendra and the Ulfen through the entire talk. The girl stayed calm, a little too calm for his taste. "What about the church of Pharasma? You'd expect they'd be involved in hunting those cultists down."
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar gets on his feet the moment he hears Bjorn utter those words, "We need to get to Ghoroven and to the Pharasman to see if she's there, then the cemetery." He hoped that latter wasn't needed though. It was a disappointing development though, right when he had started to trust the girl. Then again, perhaps she simply still behaved like a silly teen.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
"Because we might need Ghoroven alive?" The tone of his voice suggests that his remark isn't entirely in jest. If Bjorn did end up being smarter than he appeared and be a cultist spy he would most likely grab any chance he had to dispose of people that might threaten their plan. The suggestion of studying he didn't mind though. He wasn't the most knowledgeable person around but he could read and was no fool.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 Oliar nods as he hears the other speak about the situation, he was satisfied with what he had seen and, as he actually had hoped, it seemed Kendra wasn't involved, at least not conciously. When the Norseman starts talking he pays very close attention to what was said, making sure no details he considered important were left out.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Perception vs Bjorn 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Right when Bjorn passed by Oliar turned his head to face him, "Hurry up you fool! That devil-spawn still is behind us!" Directly after finishing his sentence he turned his head again and snored a bit. The next morning Oliar wakes with a stiff neck and starts stretching in the middle of the room. For his breakfast he sticks to fruit and water, politely refusing the sausages as those weren't allowed. Too bad she didn't have eggs. He nods when Alexei asks Kendra what she knows but that is shortly followed by a soft shushing sound when Bjorn proceeds to spoil things.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
While the others are leaving one by one Oliar instead puts down the locked book and starts leaving through the book on the Whispering Way, reading all he can about the organisation. He needs to know what he's dealing with, what their identifiers are, how they communicate, basically everything he can. He needs to see it coming this time. Eventually he fell asleep in his chairs, his dreams filled with the faces of those who died that night several years ago.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
"Just know that I'll be gone when she stabs you in the back. I do not intend to let that happen to me." Not again. "She may be involved without knowing. I don't think she herself would harm her father but while I'm no expert on the matter, there are plenty of stories about ghosts, demons and whatnot possessing people or even just hitching a ride. You can never be too cautious." But you could, actually. He was in the professor's house and for some reason there the paranoia started creeping back in. Oliar sat down, " We still want to know what she knows before we tell her anything. She might just shed a new light on things, regardless of whether or not she's involved in any way, shape or form."
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar sighs, both because the damn lock refuses him and because the other seem to finally grasp what he already suspected. The professor's death had been too convenient, too simple. The only simple death that had fitted the professor had been one over a dozen years in the future, when he simply was so old he'd break down. "I'm sorry guys, this lock is beyond me. It's a beauty, never seen it's like before and I hope to never see another." If the indebted in Druma got hold of such a lock it would be the end of his career. "I agree though, we should talk about this with Kendra. We should also do it discretely as we also want to know how much she already knows." No one was beyond suspicion, ever. He had learned that much. "Similarly, while we should discuss part of this with the father we once again should be careful so we can get an idea of what he knows already." He gave the Ulfen a wary look as he suddenly realized the man had been living in this area for some time. Perhaps his idiocy was just an act and they had been cradling a viper at their bosom all along.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar sighs, man that guy was thick, "Neither, though I have no clue what a jadwiga is. As for the fey, the only connection I have to them is that I lived in a town that has peaceful contact with three different fey courts that are at war with each other about every other week." He sighed once more when he interrupted him while working on the lock, "Well, we already read his journal didn't we? What if this book contains more important information about the matter? It looks like the professor died working on this, the more we know the less likely it is we will as well."
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar waits patiently as the priest finishes the ceremony. His time in Druma taught him there was actually little need in life for gods, but he guessed Pharasma was an exception as she was the goddess you needed in death. *** Once inside the manor Oliar readily accepts both the offer to take a room in the house and for a drink, though he only takes water as per the strictures of his faith. Once he returns from placing his belongings in his room the others can see he is fully clothed in white and the symbol of the prophecies of Kalistrade is embroidered on his collar. *** One the will is read, the chest is brought in and Kendra takes her leave Oliar turns to the others, "I don't think I've properly introduced myself. My name is Oliar and I hail from Druma. I met the professor when he was in Macridi looking into the ongoing war between the groups of local fey." He then whips out some tools from a hidden pocket on his body, "Now lets see if we can liberate the secrets imprisoned behind this lock." Disable Device 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
"At the risk of sounding overly dramatic: The professor gave me back my life. Without him I'd still be stuck on the streets of Macridi. I had suffered a betrayal from someone I depended on and had lost trust. The professor learned me to trust again, just by being himself. He was a grand man and I will remember him fondly." Oliar hung his head.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar had simply nodded at the two Half-Orc's arriving. It was always a bit weird to him, simply because he couldn't fathom how a brute like an orc ever managed to have children with a human. Unless it wasn't voluntary. When they walked outside with the casket Oliar was glad he had put his hood back up. These bumpkins would clearly make the worst of an associating between this "strange" cat-man, who might or might not be a lycanthrope, and the professor. He listened to his comrades and while their approach was probably appropriate for these simple minded folk they were facing it also was dismissive and those idiots hated it when you did that. "Think for a moment. Would we be burying a necromancer? Wouldn't a necromancer just turn himself into an undead creature? Think about it." His voice was calm, almost appreciative of those stupid hill billies. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Oliar smiles at both bearded men, "No problem, I have had many weird looks since I set foot on shore in Caliphas. I'm used to it by now." It was the reason he had been imported as a whelp in the first place, even though that was a different country. The driver of the wagon he had hitched a ride on had been very kind to explain a lot about this country and it's superstitious. He also warned him to to go to the northern parts as there was supposedly a lycanthrope problem there and the man insisted that the local people would not be able to tell the difference between a were-cat and a true catfolk.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
If you ask me Catfolk aren't really "monstrous", not any more than your regular Half-Orc anyway (and in a land so close to Belkzen they are likely less monstrous). The way I see it they are weird and exotic and warrant both caution and curiosity, but people have heard enough stories to know they aren't monsters out to eat their babies. Most stories probably are about their acrobatic prowess and their tendency to steal though, so it's a bit of a "Wow, a catfolk here? Never seen one of those before, cool. Now stay away from my things!" So I'd say somewhere around 5, with lower scores from more worldly/curious/adventurous people and higher for superstitious bumpkins :P But considering Bjorn is an Ulfen and they are known to be superstitious I can see him being weirded out. EDIT: I do enjoy overcoming the adversity of being a weird race some times, but I don't consider it fully relevant for Oliar. If I wanted that now I would have picked a Tiefling or something like that.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
A smooth, kind voice comes from under a black hood, "It would be an honor miss." The man stands up and throws back his hood revealing a feline head. His fur is a smoky grey with white in his face and black rosettes from his neck down. The green-eyed cat-man moves with feline grace as the cloak reveals he is dressed in white underneath, including long gloves that only leave the tips of his fingers exposed. A white quiver is strapped to his thigh and on his back, over the cloak, he wears a simple looking backpack though the thing is made of high quality leather.
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Meh, lame editing time Oliar is done/ Using my claws means I have quite some excess money. Luckily that fits perfectly with being a follower of the Prophecies of Kalistrade. Hmm, Alexei is Chelaxian. Looks like a possible cause of tension between him and Oliar (who has been a slave in Cheliax). As for the language thing, Oliar might just take it upon himself to learn Celestial (assuming he does get along with Alexei) EDIT: Oh, and if anyone ever calls him Snowball you might end up getting scratched (because yes, he looks like the avatar I picked for him)
Male Catfolk Rogue (Cat Burglar) 1
Mostly the getting access part yeah. I'm not interested in them at the start though. They don't become interesting till either magic versions are available or I get more attacks from my BAB as at the moment it's more beneficial if they are natural attacks instead of light slashing.
