Mm been thinking on some of these, love the system, want to flush it out a bit. So this thread will hopefully be about that.

Natural Resources.
The Mine:
Type: Bonus.
Copper: 1
Iron/Silver: 2 (Iron might give a bonus to smiths, weapon armor makers etc).
Gold: 3
Platinum & Gems: 4.

Lumber: On top of the listed bonus perhaps if a camp is built lets give 1 free build point per month.

Hex containing shore line, lake, or water, if "farm" is built on it provides either the full 2, or an additional +1 for consumption cost.

Finally building a water supply, in plains, from a river (Built like a raod for same cost. Or any farm that contains a river will reduce consumption by 3, not 2.

Hey folks. version one, would love some feed back, tell me what you think. It may seem a bit complicated, but 2 points.
1. I wanted to add some indepth optional rules.
2. It is easy to calculate if you keep on top.
oh and
3. Its optional.
heres version 1.
Additional Rules for King Maker
Law and Order.
Lawful Kingdoms add +2 to Law Checks.
Law: This value is analogous to saving throws, just like stability, economy, and loyalty. You make this check during your kingdoms Order Phase. You make these checks to reduce criminal activities in your Empire. You initial score is 0+your kingdoms alignment modifier, a natural 1 is always a failure, and a natural 20 is always a success.

Unrest-Unrest is applied as a penalty to law checks.

Order Phase: (comes before Economy Phase).
Step 1- Determine Kingdom Law Check: Make a Law check against your Command DC to determine your kingdom’s level of law and order for the month. If you make the check, reduce your Kingdom’s Floating Crime (See step 2) by 1 (If your Crime is at 0 gain 1 BP as a result of stability and surplus goods.). IF you pass the check by 5 or more reduce unrest by 1. If you fail the check by 5 or more increase Floating Crime by 1, and unrest by 1.

Step 2- Determine Total Crime: To make things easier you should list crime as PC (Permanent Crime-PL (Permanent Law))+FC (Floating Crime-FL (Floating Law)) =TC (Total Crime). Very easy to determine, first you will add up all PC bonuses (mostly from buildings.). Then add all the FC bonuses from buildings, minus any modifiers, total then up and you will get your Total Crime. PC and FC can never be reduced below 0.

Point four for the income phase.

Step 4-Generate Income: Make an Economy check against your Command DC at the end of your income phase. If you’re successful, minus your crime score from the total, then divide your result by 5. (dropping any fractions) and increase your Treasury’s BP by that amount.

Leadership roles. (bonuses are in addition to listed bonuses, unless otherwise stated).

Ruler: Add Law to choices. A king may modify three of the four.

General: You may choose to have the army, General, directly involved restoring Law. If you do ½ his Str or Cha and apply half to stability, and half to Law checks. Enforcing Law can take away from more important issues, as well it can breed resentment amongst the people.

Marshal- Increase Law by a value equal to Wis bonus. Vacancy penalty: Increase Floating Crime by 2.

Spymaster- Add Law to the increases. Penalty add 2 to Floating Crime.

Warden: Apply bonus to Law as well. Vacancy add 4 to Floating Crime.

Buildings:
These rules are in addition to the rules applied to existing buildings. Each building listed gets a bonus to either Floating Crime (FC), Permanent Crime (PC), Floating Law (FL) or Permanent Law (PL). Modify accordingly.

Arena- +1PC
Barracks-+1PL
Black Market- +2 PC, +1FC
Brewery-+1 FC
Brothel- +1PC
Castle- +2PL, +2FL
Cathedral-+1PL, +2FL
City Walls- +1 FL
Dump-+1 PC
Garrison +2 PL, +1 FL
House- +1 FC ( this may be to much for most players, you may want to remove this, feed back?)
Jail- +2 PL, +2 FL
Market- + ½ (so if two it becomes a single point. Do not round up ½ points.)
Piers- +1 PC, +1 FC
Tavern- +1 PC, +1 FC
Temple- +1 FL (if a militant, or Law orientated God, feel free to add +1 or +2 PL)
Tenement- +2 PC, +1 FC. (Though one may think no one will ever build this, remember as a DM and PC that you may run into refugees, shortage of cash, a fire and the need to rebuild fast.).
Theatre-+1FC
Watch tower- +1 PL
Water Front +2 PC, +1 FC.

I have been thinking of adding a fourth stat, to stability, economy etc.

Since we are just starting Kingmaker I have a bit of time to prepare this. My idea is that Warden (I think i am using the right one), and certain buildings, would give a Law rating, bonus, rather then stability.

The idea is that in the listings of other cities there is a criminal element, thieves guilds, bandits etc. I know this can come under unrest, but in the game i am running, unrest is more rebellion, loosing hexes etc.

The idea would be when a check is failed, when black market is established, in the check phase you need to make a law check. If you fail, or for every criminal point you have at the time, BP are stolen from the realm. The higher the ranking, the more that is stolen. Other modifiers would be -1 for lawful kingdom, +1 chaotic etc.

What is the feeling on this? Feedback, suggestions?

thanks guys.

OLD skool DM?
started this in another forum, thought it might be a blast to post it and hear what others think and believe.

1.New characters are 1st level. No matter what level you die.
2.There is NEVER a cap on level advancement (see old dragon magazine issues and some 330 odd level wizard that blew up greyhawk, in a letter to the editor, resulting in several issue long snail mail arguments in the letters section of dragon).
3.Core race ONLY.
4.Options are just that, they are options for other groups.
5.YOU will speak as if you were in character.

i posted the worst.

So now. tell us the best PC/DM/GAME.

YOurs and others. So many bad experiences, would love to hear some good ones.
if you can
Fav (other persons.) PC/DM/Game
Fav (Your own).

1.Pc-honestly the best PC i ever played with, and i say this because i played to long champaigns with him. The first he was dead serious hard core straight edged PC, cannot even remember his class. the reason i liked him was his second character was a barbarian, great history, great back story, but he was able to do conan/arnold voice so perfect we nearly wet ourselves laughing. the fact he could be serious, and have fun, it was amazing. made me laugh so damn hard.

2.Best Dm. my current Dm, i am not always a fan of his PC's but he is a damn good dm, brings to life characters, and has really made an effort to engage and use back stories of characters. brilliant.

3.Game. war hammer fantasy roleplay. 2nd or third mod, cannot remember, ethier way. A love interest of my PC ended up being a chaos cultist, that bit me in the ass hard. Best part was the deamon that we were supposed to kill was slaughtering its own followers. i thought, screw it let him kill them all.
OOPs that jsut let him morph into a more powerful version. LOL.
same dm as 2. lucky me to have such a great story teller.

favorite PC of mine?

thats a tough one. Probably my current fighter Nos. not such an elaborate back story, but i liked him none the less. Cheliaxian ex noble, in korvosa, torn between duty and hatred of thrune. Follower of Aroden. Fav moment. When he broke down at the left over church of Aroden in Korvosa.

wow.

so for fun i posted the worst pcs dms and games, one day i should post a thread with the best game/dm/pc thread, and not your own.

I guess i am throwing this out there, but is it just me, but i would love a game of just role players...i would love to try pbp, if someone could teach me how and where that is done.

but i would love a group driven by role playing, story telling and fun. have interesting characters, histories, stories. I read all of the bad things, and at the same time i have had incredible fun.

just a thought, perhaps i am day dreaming, but to actually have a tight knit role playing group, that would be fun. not so many rules or restrictions, but a group build.

oh well just a thought.
probably wont get any responses.

I know there are twf focused threads on how to make it better, i have been, for the longest time, i wanted TWF to not have to be dex based.

there are options to do damage with dex instead of str, and there are options i beleive to use cha, or at least wis, instead of str.

IS it not possible to have a TWF that can use str as prereq instead of dex? or do i want my cake and eat it to.

I love fighters.
I love con and str, and i dont see why a strong fighter could not hold to friggen LIGHT weapons in both hands and smite the enemy with them

str does not =skill

yet the stronger you are the better you hit?
so why does this not apply to the stronger you are you now cannot hit well with two weapons?

Wait.
Str=to hit, not dex. It is not your agility but raw power.
But if you use two weapons its no longer str????

this makes no sense.
why not a single feat to allow str to sub in for dex, is this to much? does it unbalance the game? because you already can have a feat to use dex for damage right?
why not the reverse and i will spend the feat to use str for dex for TWF, would this be fair?

in lines with my worst game ever.

Worst PC?

Guy always played a thief, always.
Pickpocketed, robbed, left for dead, fellow PCs always. metagamed until his ears bled. Spent the game session reading manuals for that game, or quit often other games.

Always new what combo killed what monster, ALWAYS. if you killed him he played his brother, hell bent on revenge.
Never role played a single time, but always power gamed Every single bloody character. If you played a human champaign, he played a kobold, and no you cannot always blame the dm, if you put your foot down he would weasel around rules, and whine,, and complain. But he played along until mid point, then always sabatoged the group.

Worst Dm?

DMPC (Dm player character) I can live with them, have used them, however that being said. His character could never die, solved everything, was the life of the party, new the best everything. It was a group of four of us. And the three players finally got sick of it and when he went down in combat, well someone might have stepped on his windpipe.

Needless to say he was back to life in the next adventure, we found out he was divinly protected, lucky us.

I have had great DM's (in fact the one i have now is brilliant, no matter what little things come up, on the whole he is the best dm i have ever had.) I have Dm'd great Pc's, same goes my group, no matter how small, is pretty much the best group i have had. Makes an effort.

After reading others horror stories i decided to share my own, would love to hear other peoples.

So the worst game i was ever in, i was a PC.

We got together at a local store, the owner runs some games. Well i thought this might be fun, you know he is a verteran player, there would be about six people and that sounded like a blast.

Well...lets start.
I arrive early to make my character. (now i want to point out that this is pathfinder, and point buy, which is pretty idoit proof, no "lucky" die rolls.).

Me:Hey i am ready to make my character.
O(owner): i made it for you, here is halfling rogue.
Me: Oh.

Now again i am not an ass, but i was told that i would make my own, i am not the biggest fan of rogues, i actually prefer ANY fighting class, but fine i am not a jack ass i will play.

PC1-PC4: same deal here are your pre made classes and races, no one picks the class.

Fine.
an hour after we were supposed to start the female friend, call her gurl, shows up.

DM: you finished your character?
Gurl: ya i am playing a tiefling rogue, i also took an extra feat cause it fits my back story.
DM: fine.
Gurl, i also didnt like the point buy so chose better stats.
Dm: fine.

No crap, i swear this is how the conversation went down. I bit my lip, but a game is a game.

skip ahead.

Roleplaying.
Pc1:5 minutes
Me: 5 mintues.
Gurl:15 minutes, hushed talk with Dm.
PC2: 2 mintues, steps on gurls toes.
Gurl: interrupts, " i need to talk to you private."

Dm gurl step out for 15 more mintutes
returns.
DM: pc 2 you cant do that, you forfit your turn.
PC3: 5 minutes.
Gurl:10 minutes.

continue.

Combat rolled around something like this

PC1: swing and a miss.
PC2: you are knocked out.
ME: you back stab, with damage reduction you do 5 points.
Gurl: you do a lightning bolt, that hits the water, does extra damage and AGAIN save the party.
YAY.

oh and the usual we are to go from a-b, but gurl wants to wander to c, so we divert to her side quest agin and again and again.

that was my worst experience. Oh and this is how all the games there run, over and over and over.

How about the rest of you?

Hey everyone.

question: If you had to pick one race to play, outside the core, which would be your top race?

For me.
Gillmen...Dont even know why, but something about them, just dieing to try one out.
Cheers

Dark Archive

Mmm, pick your top 5 favorite monsters. I am not sure the order really matters, and you can pick 1, i just want to give the option to actually let you pick more then one.
1.Aboleth.
2.Gibbering mouther.
3.Shadow Dragon.
4.Goblin (ya I like Paizo goblins what can i say, they look really cool)
5.Skulk

The last was weak, but still one of the best.
Cheers.

If this has been a post sorry, if it has not been done...then I am not.

Why do our werewolves do no claw damage? i mean i know there based on the animal type, and no claws=no claw damage in hybrid form.

But seriously???? a werewolf with out claws? the picture has them, we all know they ALWAYS have them. but basically they fight by running up, holding real tight and onyl trying to bite.

Like just seems silly.

This has bothered me for a long long time, a long time.
anyhow.
any suggestions as to why?
frustrating.

Being an old time gamer, lol, I remember way back when, in a land far away, the ability to actually do TRUE empire building.

Dragon issue 125, Brilliant, have not read it? Wanted to build an empire? Read it, best empire economic rules ever.

Look I know kingmaker is good, as all products are, but i would liek to start a thread for any and all of you out there that would like true empire building.

For me this is what empire gaming is all about.
1.Its role playing, no models, or complicated expensive military units that takes hours to work up a single fight. No look at the old, i think blue book, D and D, oh ya lets go back, basic abstract rules. You can go a little more in depth, but really its a nice chart to role on.

2.Actual economic system. base tax, example 1 gp per month. Then like dragon 125. You get a bonus or minus, in percentage, depending on how much of the pop was invested into an area. I know sounds complicated, but think.
Lumber-100 people in it, 25% more for taxes. 125 gp...BAM.

3.Oh ya none of that BIRTHRIGHT crap that came out, where everyone expected an empire game and got a...well bleh, if you played it you will know why i was angry.

PLEASE guys, PLEASE just think about one single 64 page empire source book, just to let us build kingdoms, fight large scale battles, and pretend we run a nation. I mean i think it would be much fun, i use to think a lot of people out there felt the same way.

But i am tired of always having empire games with the out that you can STILL adventure. I know, there are many of those out there. But we ALL KNOW HOW TO ADVENTURE....why cant we have a true empire building game.

okay thats my rant.
Dragon 125, I LOVE YOU.

Okay so I am a Chelaxian loyalist to the end. That being said I am stuck in the back water town of Korvosa, long live Korvosa. After reading many supplements it comes across that Cheliax, and our divinely appointed Queen, desire nothing more then the return of all stolen Chelaxian domains.

This being said why the push to return Sargava, which they mention numerous times (i do understand the resource side) and not want to bring back into the fold a Colony that wants to join.

Though a small percentage of Korvosa is mixed heritage the majority is still pure Chelish, as myself included. But I wonder more and more with imperial ambitions, and a colony that wants to rejoin, or at least would not object. That would lead to a vast wide open underpopulated area for the loyalists to live and expand into.

Why pick Sargava over Korvosa?
