Female Human Urban Ranger 1

"I was in it for the coin at first, I'll admit. But once I'd seen all those children down there and I realized the stories about old Lamm weren't just fables, I knew he had to be put down. It was my arrow that dropped the bastard, and my sword that relieved him of his head."

With that, she retrieves the bloody trophy from her pack and displays it to Brask.

"Do with it as you please."

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Nora waits somewhat impatiently for Brask to return. She cringes at the thought of Lamm's severed head oozing his vile blood all over the contents of her pack. Blast, I should have wrapped that ugly mug of his. She places the pack on the floor near the bar and helps the staff get the children settled in.

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Nora pulls Sev off the man's body.

"You're gonna tear off his face and then we won't be able to claim the reward. He's dead. Get over it."

Later...

Nora draws her longsword and unceremoniously decapitates Lamm's corpse once the children, Raina, and Sev are out of the room. She places the disgusting trophy in her pack and drapes her cloak over the rest of the remains. "C'mon, Balth. We're almost done here."

She follows the others into the next room.

Sev will silently follow the others after he's pulled off of Lamm.

Sorry for delayed posts, this is going to be a busy week.

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Busy day, sorry about that!

Despite her impressive marksmanship and the rage burning inside her, Nora's mannerisms are a deep-set habit. She appears cold and indifferent to the kill, and no rallying cry or fearsome roar follows.

Incensed by the treatment of these children, Nora can no longer hold back her rage. Her arm trembles, and the bowstring is pulled so tightly that it's a wonder it didn't snap. She lets the arrow fly towards Lamm with extreme power, precision, and prejudice.

Nora keeps her distance at the door, bow raised and arrow pointed directly at Lamm. She seems to be solely concentrated on watching the old man like a hawk and being alert to danger.

"We didn't come to talk. Shut up, get on the ground, and don't move."

"Try the door, Balth."

If the door is locked, Nora attempts to pick it. Otherwise, she remains behind Balthazar with her bow at the ready.

Nora is quiet for most of the interaction. If she was affected by the poor conditions these children were being kept in, she didn't display it outwardly.

"I think we have all the information we need. Let's get downstairs and then we can worry about freeing all of these children. Whomever they've taken below may be in very urgent danger."

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Nora won't agree to killing Hookshanks. She might be alright with breaking and entering and self-defense, but she's not down for execution. In her mind, the threat is neutralized and there is no point in killing him.

I know she's just a temporary character, and I'm not saying she's going to make a big stink about it and hold up the party if you guys want to kill Hookshanks, but she'll definitely look down on it. Harshly. When I make characters, I like to give them realistic attitudes and motivations, and that's kind of the caveat of playing with me. Sorry about that.

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

"Just tie him up and leave him there for a while. He's got no incentive to cooperate; he'll assume we're going to kill him anyway.

If Lamm was here, there's no way he is now. You've already been here once, and you probably spooked him. One of his lackeys even said he wished Lamm had left him some potions.. meaning Lamm is probably gone and may not have been here for a while. We'll be lucky if your friends are here, and even luckier if they're still alive. It would be faster to just turn the place upside down, get what we need, and leave."

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Nora peeks her head through the open door into the next room. While everyone is looting the corpses and unlocking cabinets, she takes stock of the area they'll be moving on to next.

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

The moment Giggles drops, his cooling corpse opens a safe passage for Nora's next arrow to fly towards Bloo. She takes a few steps forward and lets it fly!

I think Tus posted his Round 2 action ahead of time because it doesn't have any immediately offensive components, but is important for the rest of us to know immediately due to Inspire Courage.

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Nora pulls back another arrow with all her might and lets it fly towards the angry Giggles and his greasy flail. She slaps Balthazar on the back on her way out the door. "They're all yours."

I forgot that her favored enemy counts against human subraces such as half-elves and half-orcs!

Nora draws back an arrow and readies it to fire on the first enemy who opens it.

Nora facepalms. "No use trying to be quiet now." She tries the door. If it is unlocked, she steps inside and readies her bow to fire on anyone who might pass through the door across the room from her. If it's locked, she attempts to pick the lock and then enter.

"Subtlety probably won't go over well if you've already tripped the alarms. We'd probably do better by just rushing them. Smash and grab. Balth is great at this kind of job."

"If you've already injured them, then they're either laid up, fighting us with wounds, or they're forced to expend some of their resources to deal with those wounds. That gives us an advantage. Have you all got any magic? You'd best be prepared to use it."

Nora draws her bow as they approach the fishery. She turns over her shoulder and whispers to the others: "If you've got a way to make some noise on the other side of the building, we can probably rush the front door while they're checking it out."

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Nora strokes her chin in thought for a long moment, completely oblivious to the gnome tossing incident happening right in front of her.

"Gaedren Lamm. Yes. I think we have an accord. Your offer of five gold pieces is acceptable. Balthazar, gather your things. We're leaving!"

The woman stands abruptly, nearly knocking her chair over behind her. She draws the longsword on her hip halfway in order to inspect the blade, then slams it back down into the sheath with a loud *shink*. Beneath the table, she retrieves an exceptionally crafted longbow, which she slings over her shoulder.

"Move out!"

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

That's a good point. I've been enjoying this scene, but I think as soon as Aerodus offers something more reasonable than pocket change we can move on to the next thing pretty quick. Obviously, I don't really care that much about what the character gets paid since I'm not playing her permanently, but I felt like that offer was just slightly lowball. :P

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

For Your Consideration:
Let's get real for a second here because I think your character would consider this in a way that perhaps you haven't yet as a player. Korvosa is one of the most lawful cities in Golarion, and its laws are very strict. The punishment for murder is torture and death with no appeal! Even if we don't kill anyone, we're still looking at a possible 10-20 years of imprisonment if we're caught. It doesn't matter if you claim that someone is a bad guy, if you break into an establishment and kill 4 people, you're a murderer! If you break into an establishment, beat everyone up, take valuables, etc, you're committing armed robbery. No matter how you look at it, this is criminal behavior. Nobody would do that for 5gp, let alone also risk their own lives in the process!

Another thing to consider is that Nora and Balthazar are not NPC's, so the hireling rules aren't entirely accurate. A hireling typically has NPC class levels (and may not even have those). We're fully-fledged PC's with expensive equipment. These characters expect to be paid a much, much higher wage than the average guy on the street.

Nora stares at Aerodus in disbelief for a long moment; expression unflinching.

"Are you kidding? You haven't even told us who the mark is, and that ain't a good part of town so I know there's a reason you're being vague. I should charge you that much not to knock all your teeth out for wasting my time."

The stern woman crosses her arms over her chest and, without breaking her gaze on Aerodus, she states: "Balthazar. If the next number that comes out this little worm's mouth is anything less than fifty -- break his arms."

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

Nora shoots an irritated look over her shoulder as she's bumped, and seems about ready to stand up and give the gnome a good whollop. "Watch where you're going, short-stack!" She clears her throat and turns back to the others, smirking at Balthazar. "I think they want to hire us, you dullard." She leans across the table and gives Balth a stiff punch to the shoulder. It's obvious these two have an odd relationship.

Looking back at Aerodus, she squints appraisingly. "I don't like the look of you, pretty boy. Anybody lookin' as clean as you tryin' to hire people as dirty as us is trouble with a capital T. I think we're gonna have to charge them double the normal fee, eh Balth?"

She looks at Tusilak. "What's with the get-up? You gonna sacrifice a goat after this? Yeah, definitely double the rate."

Nora seems annoyed with the job before the job is even explained to her.

Female Human Urban Ranger 1

When Tusilak or Aerodus enter the nearest drinking establishment...

A stern-faced woman with black, shoulder-length hair sits in a reclined position at one of the tavern's many tables. Sitting in front of her is a loose pile of gold coins and several empty ale tankards. A young man brashly approaches her table with a confident smirk after some prodding from his friends. He throws down a handful of coins and sits down.

"You ready?", the woman asks with a bored expression on her face.

The young man nods and props his elbow on the table. The two of them clasp hands across the length of the wooden surface and begin the competition of strength -- an arm wrestling match. For a moment, their arms lock in a tense stalemate. The man's confidence suddenly drains away as the back of his fist is forcefully slammed into the table, signifying the loss of the game and his coin.

His friends from across the bar jeer and laugh raucously, and the boy's face burns a bright red.

"You cheated.", said the young man as he reached for the pile of coins to retrieve what he'd wagered. The moment his hand touched the pile, the woman's gloved hand shot forward and grasped his third finger. With a snap of the wrist, she sharply bent the finger backwards until a sickening crack pierced the air. The man cried out in pain and yanked his hand away.

"She broke my finger!", he screamed. His companions across the bar suddenly stopped laughing.

"You're lucky I didn't break your arm.", she replied.
