@GM -- I just noticed the crabs starting in the cloud were taking 1d3 acid damage instead of 2d6. Why the limited damage?

As time continues, the team slowly heals.

“We built marvelous spaces in the woods when I was younger. This will be a fun challenge.”

She pulls rope and the survival knife from her pack, and gets to work with Anock’s help.

The first few attempts at the shelter don’t work very well, but they still do the job. On the third day, Nip and Anock repair the braces and gather more wood for cross beams. The shelter stands solidly, ready for several days of protection.

Nippostia collapses next to a tree for a few minutes, but she feels tingling from the ring structure.

“I think… I think there’s magic here… not strong, but…”

She pulls herself back to her feet and approaches the structure. She holds out a hand as a pearlescent white mist begins swirling around her arm. The mist extends across her hand toward the structure, twisting and moving through it like a curious ghost.

“Yes, there’s magic here. It’s faint but distinct… oh, it was strong once, so strong… it was…”

Her face relaxes, then she smiles. “There’s teleportation magic here. Or at least there was. I can feel the remnants”

Nippostia shoulders her pack, then struggles with the right strap.

“I can't quite... get it...”

She accidentally spins around, loses her footing, and hits the ground hard.

“Ow! Well, that’s not a good omen… if you believe in such things.”

She wobbles back to a standing position and tries to look confident.

“Let’s push. We can do it.”

She wipes her sleeve across her eyes again, wishing something — anything — had worked like she hoped.

This planet hates me.

“Oh … you just couldn’t hold up any more, could you? But you gave everything for us. Thanks.”

She gathers the pieces and carefully disposes of them.

“Wilson, what do you think about traveling today? I’m torn. I’d love to rest some more, but the faster we get to the probe, the sooner we can call for help. The life bubbles will keep us safe for the next few days, but after that we’re on our own again.”

And when we get back, I’m learning that spell permanently!

She pulls out the Life Bubble spell gem, gathers everyone close, and begins casting.

The spell covers people — sorry, Domehead -- and lasts four days.

Life Bubble: You surround the target creatures with a constant and movable 1-inch shell of tolerable living conditions customized for each creature. This shell enables the targets to breathe freely in a variety of atmospheric conditions (including in corrosive, thick, thin, and toxic atmospheres), as well as underwater or in a vacuum. It also makes the targets immune to harmful gases and vapors, including inhaled diseases and poisons as well as spells with a harmful gaseous effect. In addition, the shell protects targets (and their equipment) from extreme temperatures (between –50° and 140° F) without having to attempt Fortitude saving throws, as well as extreme pressures. Life bubble doesn’t provide protection from energy damage, negative or positive energy (such as found on the Negative and Positive Energy Planes), or radiation; it also doesn’t provide the ability to see in conditions of poor visibility (such as in smoke or fog) or the ability to move or act normally in conditions that impede movement (such as underwater).

“I have these…they’re good for one spell each. This one gives us some megavitamins, and this one is life bubble. That’ll cover four of us for four days. This one is… um… it’s acidic mist — nope, that one goes back into the pack.”

Nip continues the conversation as she repacks the spell gems.

“I know lesser remove condition. My instructor always said it puts the ’s’ into ‘spell casting’ because it clears up shaken, sickened, and staggered. I can heal everyone too, but you knew that.”

She looks down for a moment, then back to Wilson.

“I don’t know the other one you mentioned, lesser restoration. Sorry.”

She slams her palms together. The mist shoots toward the eel and envlopes its head in sickly colors.

“You looked a lot smaller and cuter when you weren’t so close. You could swallow one of us whole! Sorry, but I have to protect my friends…”

The mist around her hands turns dark violet. It rushes to the snake’s head with a snap of her fingers.

The creature’s sudden appearance cuts Nippostia’s laughter short. She sits up in the boat and senses the creature pain.

She speaks softly, almost lyrically. “You don’t feel good. It’s been such a long day. You’re tired… so tired… you just want to turn around and rest…”

Nippostia looks a bit bedraggled in the aftermath of the acid rain.

“I think you're right, Wilson. ‘Roughing it’ isn’t at all like the vid channels make it look. I never saw one of those people pitch a tent in acid rain! Do you actually like these outdoor, um, things?”

When her stomach lurches again, she shakes her head.

“Nope, that's not gonna happen.”

She places her hands over her abdomen. They glow a vibrant green-gold for a few moments, then the color dissipates.

Color returns to her cheeks, and her eyes get their smile back.

“That's MUCH better. Now what were you saying about a new weather front coming in?”

Cast lesser remove condition on myself to eliminate the sickened condition.

Yes, it scales with you. The gem gives you access to the spell without knowing the spell and without burning a spell slot.

The spell gem's level is the highest level spell it can store. Life Bubble is level 1, so it fits into a level 1 spell gem. The spell casts at your caster level, since you're the one casting it. That's why only appropriate casters can use spell gems.

You're probably thinking of a spell amp rather than a spell gem.

Spell amps have the spell AND the casting magic rolled into one injectable item that anyone can use. Since anyone can use a spell amp, it lists the caster level of the spell amp.

A level 1 spell amp of Life Bubble would protect 3 creatures (because it has a caster level of 3).

If the storm damage stays similar, Nip can easily heal Wilson's mount.

If it looks like a particularly nasty storm is whipping up, she can use her Life Bubble spell gem to create 4 days of protection for us all (except the dino... she's only 4th level).

Based on the narration, I made the assumption that we were packed to roll out when the storm hit, so we didn't have any other options, and acid rain didn't sound like something good for our last tent.

She gently approaches Domehead, speaking softly and offering the goodie. She keeps talking in a soft, sing-song voice as her hands glow with rippling wisps of color.
