Scarab Sages

I can appreciate those who exercise their discernment over personal issues they may have the with mechanics of any game they play. But to generalize that people abuse the system or negate aspects of roleplaying to simply be overly motivated to take advantage of the mechanical bonuses of lets say, "Reactionary" for every single character they create, to gain +2 initiative is a bad logic. Would you fault the same person who played certain classes just because the DEX bonuses were to hard to pass up. Then should we discuss that certain abilities give one player an advantage over another because they can stack +4/5 from DEX. Then they abuse the power more by taking "Reactionary" Where's the freedom in one building there toon they want.

If Paizo included traits for those individuals to further tailor their characters to a build suited for them, so be it.

On the note of roleplaying and traits just being a mechanic and killing RPGing. In my experiences, whether or not I'm aware of othe players traits. I see a lack of RPGing in a whole, So we can't create a false dichotomy and blame traits for iot.

Scarab Sages

So this particular thread is mostly for those who dislike traits. It's funny how many ppl whine so much about a game they love to play. It's part of the system, it works for those who use them. Work for Paizo if you want to hold players hostage to your limited points of view.

I was looking at Rogue Eidolon's Guide to Rogues and noticed that Charisma was dump stat. Looks for a Ninja this is not the case due to their Ki pool.

I've never played a Rogue class so I was wondering why Wisdom was the 3rd strongest stat. Is it mainly for Will saves?

What's the min/max needed for a Ninja for them to have a plentiful Ki pool?

Scarab Sages

Hello all!

I just purchased the Ultimate Combat book and wanted to see your take on how you compare Rogues to Ninjas.

Are there any advantages for TWF Ninjas using weapons other short swords for Weapon Proficiency?

Does a Ninja substitute Wisdom (Rogue) for Charisma in her build?

Does Ki give a Ninja advantages over a rogue?

And other observations you would like to share.

Thanks for your help. I think I will stick to pure Oracle and Battle. However, I'm going to stick with being an Half-Orc for role-playing purposes =P

Scarab Sages

So originally when I began this post my initial build was intended to be a pure Oracle (Mystery of Battle). And I am very grateful for the wealth of information and advice you have given me that has expanded the possibilities my character can do both in ability and in role-play.

However, I'm in a bit of quandary in choosing a path for this particular character since I'm investing him into a long term RPG.

Here are the things I'm looking for in my character:

* A proficient front line fighter who can deal damage well

* The ability to heal effectively in and out of combat

* Not constrained with being LG, LN, or NG (An alternative to a Paladin Class)

Here are the things I'm debating about in my head:

* Going full Oracle to reap benefits of full class build -(Half-Orc racial benefits including access to Battle-Axe and Falchion)

* Multi-classing: Barbarian 2/Oracle 18 - (Access to Rage, Rage Power, etc...)

* Full Oracle vs Barbarian/Oracle vs Rage Prophet

As much as I like the idea of the Rage Prophet many post warn about the overall weakness in the class.

Lastly, and very important to my decision is choosing between Mystery of Battle vs Metal. Right now I'm convinced that Metal is a better choice in how it can improved my overall damage output, AC, and maneuverability.

What are your thoughts my friends?

Scarab Sages

Definitely appreciate the advice for this character you all have given me.

Now, I'm unsure as to when I'll be fortunate to find a group to play long term campaigns with so I wanted to know what advice I can utilize with the information you guys have given me to create a PFS Barbarian/Oracle.

Scarab Sages

So if I wanted access to 7th level spells I would have to build my character as such: Barbarian 3/Oracle 7/Rage Prophet 10?

Scarab Sages

So I'm baby stepping my way through this process.

I reevaluated my stats and by reducing my WIS and STR and adding more to CON and DEX. Leaving CHR at an odd number to bump up at level 4.

STR: 16
DEX: 12
CON: 16
INT: 10
WIS: 7
CHR: 15

If I take this character to level 20 I could potentially increase my STR to 18 and Dex to 16 or trade CON to 18.

Would you say Barbarian 6/Oracle 4/ Rage Prophet 10 be a good combo?

Traits:

Brute (Taldor)
Unbreakable Hate (Orcs of Golarian)

Feats:

Toughness
Power Attack
Furious Focus
Combat Casting
Improved Bull Rush
(Game for any more suggestions)

Rage Powers:

Moment of Clarity
Intimidating Glare
Elemental Rage, Lesser

Mystery of Battle:

Maneuver Mastery - Bull Rush +4
Weapon Mastery

Curse:

Lame

This is pretty much all I can figure for and again i'm open to any and all suggestions.

Scarab Sages

Could explain the mechanics of a concentration check and how Combat Healer works in favor of allowing to heal during combat please.

Scarab Sages

Hello all!

This is my very first post! And I'm relatively new to PFRPG and PFS.

I'm in the habit now of creating all sorts of new characters and I've been particularly looking at Oracle because I like to heal. However, I am captivated by the Mystery of Battle and have nominated a Half-Orc to fill the position.

So far for level 1 using the PFS 20-point buy system etc... this is what I've designed so far:

STR:18 (+2 Half-Orc)
DEX:10
CON:14
INT:10
WIS:10
CHR:14

Racial: Proficient w/ Falchion

Curse: Haunted

Revelation: Weapon Mastery

Feats: Toughness

Traits: Brute (Orc)
Brute (Taldor)

Now I am considering looking at using this toon for long term campaigns but needs advice on tuning up this character for both RPG and PFS.

I'm not interested in using a shield, except maybe a buckler, becaus I want to role play a raging two-handed swing Half Orc.

If it's advisable to incorporate Barbarian please guide me in what steps or levels I need.

Thanks again for you time and help!
