"Well done, Zara. You have the makings of a fine company clerk," Nicea comments as she scans the written deposition, bites into her thumb, and leaves a bloody print as witness of the proceedings, "You now report to the Lieutenant."

She shoves the paper back at the cleric with a brusque "File this" and prods the prisoners forward to their destiny in Sandpoint. And if the court doesn't make the right decision, I will! She smiles and softly pats the haft of Red Mist.

"Seems kinda stupid to me. I mean, what if the magistrate finds them all innocent for some reason and turns them loose? Then we have to hunt them down and kill 'em all over again." She shrugs. "Of course, if we get paid, I guess it's worth it. Still seems stupid."

Nicea watches Silva make goggles in obvious confusion. She catches Samara's eye with a "what the heck?" shrug and a whirl of her index finger next to her temple, then grips her scythe tighter.

Nicea frowns. "Straw-stuffed armor? That seems useless. Who wants to protect straw?" She slips into the foyer behind the stealth elf to back her up with some muscle.

Just checked the map - holy cow, I thought we cleared out the ground floor! Time to get to work, people!

"If everyone is feeling better, it's time to get to work, people! Let's clear out this place. Have we been in here?" Nicea gestures at the double doors to the north. "If not, let's get in formation and clear this place out! Lieutenant, if you are all healed, check that door!" She flexes, then stows her hammer and pulls out her scythe. The message is clear: Nicea means business!

"I thought we wiped out everything up here," Nicea frowns, "But yeah, let's finish cleaning out up here, make sure the main doors are still barricaded, then have a plan for heading downstairs. We need to get out of that first room as soon as possible and get into another, unless we find another way in."

She gives a nod of approval to the Varisian dancer in thanks for the healing.

Nicea slams the door to the stairs behind her and sets her back to it.

"I'm fine with going back down there - more than fine - but we need a plan," she pants, "We need to heal up, then NOT stay in that killing room with doors on every side. We need to pick a door and go through it, take the area room by room without exposing our backsides to everyone."

She looks around at the ragged crew. "Do you need to heal? Anybody got ideas for getting through locked doors or securing them behind us?"

Nicea growls wordlessly and pulls Zara to her feet, then does the same for Samara, pushing them both toward the stairway. "Get up there; we'll hold the stairway. We're right behind you."

Her intent is to get people on their feet and move them up the stairs, but I can't do that in Roll20. Nicea will follow the party up.

Nicea scowls around the little room. "We won't be in the best shape if all these doors open. Stairway's narrow, though. We could defend it. Maybe after setting Mr. Ugly's door on fire? Anyone got a fire spell?"

She starts waving people back up the stairs. "I'll be rearguard and keep the stairway plugged. Blondie, you're with me. You gotta keep me on my feet if they manage to hit me. Which they won't. Because I'm the best."

Nicea readies Red Mist to hit anything unfriendly that comes within five feet of her. And I checked to be sure I could move Nicea, but I cannot.

Nicea stops suddenly as she reaches the room below, inconsiderately leaving everyone else on the stairway.

"Oh man," she groans, "Whoever built this place must have had an uncle who manufactured doors."

She moves aside so the others can join her. "See what I mean? OK, everyone take a door and listen."

Nicea moves to the first door and presses her ear against it.

Nicea comes back to reality with a start of surprise, having expected to wait for Dav and Samara again. "Oh... oh, sure. Sounds like fun." With the door open and no obstacle in sight, she charges down the stairs, weapon in hand.

"About time you two got down here. Did you find anything or anybody? Did you have trouble? Are you hurt? Or were you up there playing cards?" Nicea grumps as Davben and Samara appear. "We didn't know if you were hurt or not or having trouble or not. We need some sort of a signal for you to use if you're dead."

She gestures down the stairs. "We were about to go down and check out the weird noises, but quiet people usually like to go first, without the rest of us stomping around. Want to go scout it out, or should we just charge down there?"

Red Mist's haft quivers in her palms, and she knows what its answer would be. Nevertheless, it wasn't a leader's role to kill everything herself, any more than it was a ship captain's role to steer and tend the sails and keep the lines taut and clean the deck. No, command was a solemn calling requiring patience and wisdom. It required somebody selfless and giving and restrained. Someone like Nicea.

She takes a deep breath and gazes off to the horizon, elevated and elated by her gift of leadership.

Nicea closes the door she just opened. "Something's down there. Want to finish this floor first, or head on down and take care of business?" she asks the others, shaking her scythe meaningfully on the word business. Gore still occasionally splats from the blade to the floor.

The wise course would be to wait until our tower friends rejoin the group and find out what happened up there. Nicea, however, get bored with nothing to do, so yes.

"Better wait to see if the Tower Team has any trouble before we go rushing in to another room," Nicea suggests, "Or not. I think we do the doors one at a time, starting with this little one." She indicates the door next to her.

Map doesn't have co-ordinates, but it's right next to Nicea.

Nicea sighs, tired of waiting for the Stealth Squad to descend.

She opts not to yell up the stairs to see what is going on. "She's probably thinking goblins are easy to find and cheap to hire," she mutters in response to Silva.

The fearless leader of the group would suggest that we go through the doors one by one, slaughtering everything in our way.

"Dandy. I'm gonna go be sure the gates are barred. You guys - you know, the quiet types - tiptoe up the guard tower stairs and take out the gobbos there. If they give you any trouble, run down and I'll meet them at the bottom. I'm gonna stand in the hallway and be sure nobody comes up your backside. That's never pleasant if you're not ready for it."

Nicea trots to the gates to be certain they are secured, then takes up a guard position in the hallway to the tower.

Placed Nicea on the map as well as I could. She's facing west while anyone who wants to be sneaky goes east and up into the tower.

"Good to see you three. I was afraid you'd get into trouble if left to your own devices for very long. Anything to report, lieutenant? Zara, I think we have to take out the guards in the tower. We can't leave them behind us. If they figure out we're here, they will open the gates to the nasties outside. We make sure the gates are barred, then take out the tower guards. Towers are pretty defensible, too. We can sit up there with bows, pick off goblins on the ground, and defend the stairwells." Nicea smiles at the thought of a pleasant afternoon's amusement, but the smile suddenly leaves her face. "Until they bring torches, that is. Bar the gates, kill the guards, then we hit the double doors. Does that sound good, Lieutenant?" She fixes the shy elf with a piercing look.

Nicea gazes disconsolately around the bunk room. "That was too easy. And too painless for them. And there's probably not even any loot in here."

She pokes around with the tip of her scythe, trying to find something gleaming.

Hey, where'd my post go?

Nicea waves Dameika and Silva to one of the goblins each and mimes stabbing as if with a dagger.

She herself goes to one of the little bunks and makes aim with her scythe. She holds up three fingers, then puts one down at a time at measured intervals, mouthing three… two… one… GO!.

Scythe coup de grace on the gobbo at 6 o'clock. Autohit, autocrit.

Scythe crit dmg, normal: 8d4 + 16 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 3, 4, 3, 2, 2) + 16 = 40

Fort save 10+40 =50 to not die. Nicea stays near the doorway to block their exit.

Nicea looks back and realizes only Silva and Dameika have followed her. After a flash of irritation - How can I exhibit leadership if nobody follows? - she realizes the others must be with sneaky, silent, slippery Samara. Her brain practically glows with pride. Leading one side of the pincer. She's got serious command potential. I chose my Lieutenant well. The fact that there is in no way any sort of a pincer movement going on does not occur to her. Even if it did, she wouldn't be bothered by facts.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

Nicea beckons to Dameika and whispers, "Go be sure the front gates are closed and locked. There were gobbos in the bushes outside. We don't need them taking us from the rear. Then cover the other doors in the entry with your bow. Silva and I will take care of these." She gestures to the noisy door and waves Dameika off, then readies Red Mist for another session of grinding, blending, and pureeing.
