Hard to use your name in a haiku... it has too many syllables... so you can only use it on the second line.

Nereus was a little perturbed at the weapons restrictions, but expected little else from the Chelaxian bureaucracy.

He leaves most of them on the ship, taking only the two kukri's.

If we're leaving our gear on the ship, and heading out of town once we talk to this fellow... will we get to pick our weapons up again? Or we doing without from this point forward?

Having no particular skill at talking to surface dwellers, he leaves that to the others, instead focusing his attention on what is happening around them... especially if there are extra ears or eyes paying undue attention.

It would only do damage on the attack roll, I'd imagine... which just happens once.

If you look at the weapon table, its right there between crossbows and shurikens... so definitely a physical melee weapon. So trying to compare it to rays, seems a bit of a stretch.

The improvised weapon angle doesn't really work, as its not a net anymore at that point.

But ya, I can imagine the table differentiation being quite wide... but how often do you actually use such things anyway! (I've no idea, which is why I was pondering it... if a sea elf can't use a trident and a net, who can? (stupid gladiators!)

Nereus nods, at pretty much everything the Paracountess says, her own thoughts on the matter quite closely echoing his own.

He nods at her as she leaves, though says nothing else, having never met the woman before.

He continues to listen with a austere look on his face... that only lightens up slightly when he hears they will be traveling by sea for the first leg of the journey.

"Much of the Chelish navy docks in Corentyn." He says. "Not a pleasant lot, even by land-bound standards."

A question, for the general populace.

I was thinking of having Nereus go down the weapon and net type of fighting style...

And I'm curious how the Warpriest's sacred weapon class feature, would interact with the net part.

Normally a net does 0 damage, (unless its a snag net, maybe). But Sacred Weapon replaces a weapons normal damage, with the sacred weapon damage dice... which at level 4 would be 1d6.

As far as I can tell, this says the net's weapon damage is based on my level, and the original weapon type damage is immaterial, so thus the net is now doing 1d6 damage.

Parrameleh... though you say you are a female here, your profile lists you as having an extra Y chromosome. =)

A tall, austere-looking elf, with bluish-green skin and dark hair, Nereus is an aquatic elf... unintentionally doing his best to look uncomfortable, and out of place, on land.

He watches the spectacle, and announcement with a slight frown, not joining in on the applause. His only experiences with the landbound nation of Cheliax were all bad, mostly dealing with the countless scores of dead sailors sent to the bottom of the Arcadian Ocean by the Chelish Navy, often little more than pirates themselves. Not mention that Cheliax was basically a material extension of the evils of hell, and had been for nearly a century.

The willingness of surface-dwellers to bow to the evil of the outer planes so easily, was forever baffling to him. Though it did go a long way to explain why his own people, rarely interacted with them. Just another reason he often question his own participation in allying with the Pathfinders, who ofttimes showed little better judgement than those in Cheliax.

He nods to both Andrelis and Gareleth, though it seems more a matter of formality than any indication of comradery.

"It would seem we are to work together once again." He says, though its hard to tell if he views that as a good or bad thing. "Though I would not be so eager to visit that infernal nation."

Hate google drives though... won't let me download files. Only way to get them is to 'download all', so it zips them up first, and downloads everyones, then I can pick mine out manually, an delete the rest.

No, you get the chronicle, no matter what.

You only get XP if you participate in at least 3 encounters.

You only get gold for those encounters you were there for.

And usually you miss out on the prestige either way, depending on when the points are triggered.

So it ends up being a lot of 0's usually.

Though it is not unheard of for GM's to just pretend they were never there. =)

Nereus steps back from the flames, stuck right in the middle of the blast. Still, he seems little worse for wear, as he scans about for more enemies.

Seeing none, he nods slightly, then hearing Yuzu, steps forward to tend to some of the kitsune's wounds.

Unfortunately, his healing magic does very little to mitigate the many burns.

"Have not had to deal with burns very often." He mutters.

Dangit, again, I thought I posted... I'm clearly getting old.

Nereus continues to press the attack on the remaining foe, sidling sideways and thrusting his trident at the one that's on fire.

trident vs burning skeleton: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Unfortunately, he finds the heat coming off the final foe quite disconcerting, and his attempt is way too tentative. His attack amounts to little more than waving his weapon about.

Nereus quickly moves in to help, taking up a position beside Yuzu, as he thrusts his trident at the nearest skeleton, knowing it is not the perfect weapon for the task.

"The structure seems the obvious choice, yes." He agrees with Yuzu, and starts heading that direction with the others, still on high alert.

Not at all familiar with such creatures, Nereus is not aware he needs to get away from it as it falls. So when the pumpkin explodes, a few seconds later, he is caught completely off-guard!

I always feel wrong pondering rolling those knowledge nature checks... the nature nereus would be familiar with would be completely different. Luckily, I moved those skill points out of there, to avoid the conflict =)

"Is this common?" Nereus asks, as the gourds suddenly start to gain faces and attack.

"Plants are rarely so animated beneath the waves without currents to move them."

His trident is suddenly in hand, as he races outside to confront the larger pumpkin-headed creature!

Calling upon Gozrah, he surrounds himself in a faint blue aura, before leaping in to the fray. The multi-pronged trident dances around, before he thrusts it at the animated gourd!

Use Fervor to cast Shield of Faith (for a +2 to AC), then single move and single attack

Trident vs Jack O' Lantern: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19, for 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 damage.

"These lines definitely follow a snail shell pattern... see..." He traces the lines for the others. "The question is which way is it spiraling?"

"And do we try to find where it started, or where it's headed?" He doesn't seem enthused about more walking in either direction, though the puzzle piques his interest.

Nereus studies the map, but is not entirely used to two dimensional cartography. Still, the lack of depth, does make things on the surface far simpler.

Nereus has no desire to run back to town, with no further information to justify it. Seems more like a 'cry wolf' situation... but since its a wolf that's doing it... that's ok!

After walking all the way out here, he is loath to turn around and walk all the way back again, so instead studies the papers Gareleth found. "Which one of these sites is closest?" He asks, not familiar with the area.

Upon hearing he might be needed, Nereus sighs slightly, then disembarks to head to the village.

He hesitates briefly before stepping off the dock onto solid land, then strides along with the others... though he seems a little uncomfortable the entire time.

I was pleased with it, considering I had no idea what I was doing. Just a black and white photo, a pumpkin, some cheap plastic pumpkin carving tools bought from Safeway, and some cutlery from home.

Was the first time I ever carved a pumpkin that didn't involve actually cutting all the way through to the inside.

Heh... I won a pumpkin carving contest at work once. This makes me nostalgic.

It's amazing what you can do with the medium. I did our boss, heh. Was a remarkable likeness!

The fun part was, another office worker took a picture of the pumpkin every day after that... and created a nifty time-lapse video of it rotting away. =)

Gah, sorry for the tardiness on all this... accidently turned off the notifications on this campaign

On the trip, Nereus semi-reluctantly accepted Andrelis' request to chat... though he seems less amenable as Andrelis' starts going through his questions.

Q&A?:
"Most of our kind avoid the surface if we can." He replies. "Everything we need we find beneath the waves, and though we can survive here, in the dry, it is never comfortable."

"I am only here as punishment." He adds. "I count the days until I have compensated for those transgressions, and can return to the water once more."

He seems reluctant to speak on that particular topic any further.

When they reach their destination, he seems reluctant to even leave the ship. The festive air of the village seeming anything but to him. He stays near the docks, carefully examining the merchandise there, even the more common items often unfamiliar to him.

Is the riverboat staying overnight? Can Nereus keep his bunk there for the evening, rather than the inn?

He will be abstaining from most of the festivities. =)

Nereus seems much less nervous and uncomfortable on the ten day trip upriver. Standing on the deck of a ship apparently far more preferable to solid ground.

He frequently leaps overboard, and swims below the surface of the river, easily keeping pace with the vessel above. Sometimes not coming up for quite some time. When he does climb back aboard he seems invigorated, and calm.

Seeming uncomfortable just being there... a tall graceful elf with bluish green skin and dark hair, keeps mostly to himself, observing the interaction of the others.

It is rare indeed to see an aquatic elf, much less one this far from the ocean.

When he finally introduces himself, his common has a strange lilt, and he pauses frequently as if trying to remember the words he wants to say. It is obvious he does not use the language often.

He bows gracefully, though briefly.

"I am Nereus Avitae, blessed warrior in the service of she who guides the wind and waves." The name is not commonly used, but the emblems on his clothes seem to indicate a version of Gozrah.

"I am not... used to being so far inland." He smiles wanly. "It takes some getting used to."
