![]() Since the adventure deals with art, I suppose a Shelynite would be a good fit? Perhaps a cleric or an oracle, if the group is in need of a healer—likely a bookish art historian/conservator-restorer type (in this case, one who views humanoid bodies as works of art worth preserving). ![]()

![]() Hello! I'm excited to see what sorts of characters everyone comes up with. The set-up looks very interesting. I haven't played 2E since the playtest, so I'm a bit lost as to the specifics, but I'd like to play a halfling clown. They'd probably be a bard or a rogue (eldritch scoundrel?), but they could be sorcerer as well—whatever best complements the rest of the party. Obviously, there's some overlap with what Crystal is planning. ![]()
![]() This seems a like a cool idea! I'd be interested in playing an Ulfen skald. 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 1) - 1 = 7
That's, uh... an interesting array. I think that warrants the point-buy option, yeah? ![]()
![]() I have been toying with an idea for an Andoren operative working in Galt. The gist of it is that the character follows two closely aligned empyreal lords, shifting between their worship as they change personas. Both are dedicated to Truth, first and foremost, but their methods differ significantly. This is obviously a very specific concept, and I haven't really been able to find a place for them—but maybe someday! Anyway, said vigilante's social persona would openly venerate Eritrice, espousing the benefits of peaceful democracy through debate and public speaking—perhaps with the intention of entering politics, and directly influencing decisions made by the Revolutionary Council. This would also be an ideal opportunity to build connections amongst the populace, and find out what needs fixing. Whenever possible, they would attempt to negotiate between opposing parties and try to reach a compromise. And then, when diplomacy and campaigning fall short, their vigilante persona would seek to emulate Zohls for a more active approach: gathering intel, infiltrating corrupt organisations and dismantling them from within, as well as uncovering dirt on the opposition to turn the public opinion against them when they return to their role as a demagogue. Their primary targets would people who spout propaganda and twist the truth in order to manipulate the mobs. On the other hand, I would also want to play a Grey Gardener as a vigilante who worships Norgorber... ![]()

![]() @TheBobJones: Welcome aboard! @Phoenix: Coordinated Shot it is, then. All of the melee/ranged assist feats kind of suck for the frontliner, though, since I would have to take ranged feats and then.... not use them? Looks like they are meant to be used exclusively by cavaliers/inquisitors, which is kind of an odd design choice. I suppose I could go for more of a switch hitter, but I can't afford Weapon Finesse to better utilise my Dexterity... Okay, assuming that it is okay with RichD, I think I'll begin with a level of Daring Champion, and then multiclass into Warpriest from level two onwards. That way, I'll get the feat tax out of the way ASAP. For a divine caster, I think worshipping Shimye-Magalla would mean that we both pick either Desna or Gozreh for the mechanical stuff. I think I'm leaning towards Desna to play on a redemption angle. An ex-pirate who regrets his earlier life of crime, turning to religion. The belated divine spells would work for that pretty well too, with him coming into the faith at an older age. Do you think you could play into that somehow? ![]()

![]() I think I'm more interested in playing a warpriest than a tengu. There's a dearth of good tengu avatars, anyway. :P Let's go Bonuwat, then. Do you have any opinions on the deity? I think that informs a lot about the characters, both fluff- and crunchwise. ![]()
Male Half-Human Roleplayer 4 / Linguist 2 / Translator 4
![]() That's quite the resume. Okay, I'm convinced. :P @Phoenix: I've been going through teamwork feats, and these two stood out to me: Coordinated Shot and Enfilading Fire. The lack of feats is still a problem, though. Should we just... be humans? I know I'm the one who brought up tengus to begin with, but I'm not that married to the idea. We could just be connected through fluff, but would be nice to have a mechanical connection as well. The other idea I had was to be of the Bonuwat ethnicity, maybe worshipping Besmara or Shimye-Magalla. That way, we could still do the inquisitor/warpriest combo. What do you think? ![]()

I'm game, though I've since come to realise that teamwork feats are pretty hard to do at these levels. We'd have to spend our precious first-level feat to get any to begin with, and waiting until third level seems like areally long time. Do you think we should go for them right off the bat? Are there any teamwork feats that would make up for the lack of, say, a universally useful combat feat like Power Attack? Are you going for melee or ranged? If RichD is amenable to hybrid classes, I'd like to make my tengu a warpriest of Hei Feng. That way, we can collectively take care of divine casting about as well as a full cleric, and get in some fighting ability and skills to boot. ![]()
Male Half-Human Roleplayer 4 / Linguist 2 / Translator 4
![]() Yeah, we can't really make an informed decision. Do you know them? Would you say that they are a good player? I wouldn't add just anybody, not knowing how they might fit into the existing dynamic. If we do add someone, I'd like them to be either parsed through a recruitment or recommended by someone within the group. ![]()
Male Half-Human Roleplayer 4 / Linguist 2 / Translator 4
![]() Well, let me know if you want to cooperate on something. We could make characters who are connected, fluffwise and/or crunchwise (family traits, teamwork feats, etc.). I'm just waiting to learn what Phoenix wants to play so I know my options... ![]()
Male Half-Human Roleplayer 4 / Linguist 2 / Translator 4
![]() Would you be open to a tengu character? Depending on what Phoenix decides to go for, they would be either a cleric of Hei Feng or a rogue—or perhaps a mix of the two, if I'm feeling particularly adventurous. A warpriest with a nine-ring broadsword could be cool, as well. I still have my earlier ideas to fall back to, if that's not acceptable. And yes, I might just be trying to find a way to play Vasco all the time. I love corvids. :P ![]()
Male Half-Human Roleplayer 4 / Linguist 2 / Translator 4
![]() Okay, I have enough ideas on the back burner that I could fill just about any role. So far we have a frontliner(?) and a witch(?), which means I could go for a divine caster or maybe a ranged fighter type. I've never played an actual ranger, so I might do something of that nature. Perhaps a Bonuwat pirate/sailor from the Shackles, or even a straight-up cleric of Besmara... ![]()
![]() GM Sappy wrote: - Heart of the Cards: Choose one: you can use Harrow Casting as per the Harrower prestige class a number of day equal to half your character level, with access to all of the six Tower abilities, or you can cast a greater harrowing spell as a spell-like ability once per day. Would it be possible to get, say, the Harrow Strike advanced rogue talent instead? I don't benefit much from the first option, and there's not much sense in having more than a couple people capable of the second. GM Sappy wrote: I'm not a native speaker, so I hope that you will forgive me if I make the occasional blunder. Hey, don't worry about it. Neither am I. :) ![]()
![]() Hey, don't get me wrong. I love playing rogues, and I see no reason to step on anyone's toes if I don't have to. While I have nothing against having a less traditional party composition, I find that it's a bit hard to stand out from the crowd with too many multiples of the same class. Especially so in this instance, since the number of archetypes is so limited. So yeah, Sczarni Swindler it is. ![]()
![]() I would be interested in submitting a character, though it seems that most bases have already been covered. Would the Sczarni Swindler archetype be in line with your concept? ![]()
![]() GM_Ragged wrote: Hobgoblin?Hmm, it's a bit far from the feel that I'm trying to create. Probably not, but I'd take it on its merits. Well, I'm going to give it a try. All of the other concepts so far have been pretty standard, so having one party member be the odd one out/native guide/Spock of the group might be interesting. GM_Ragged wrote: Ask if you are unsure of anything. How many traits do we get in total? Just the one? Drawbacks? Are background skills in use? My alchemist wouldn't really need them (being an Int-based character) but since we are expected to be crafting a lot, it would be fair for fighters and other classes that get fewer skill points. Do you mind if I take the Fire Bomber archetype? It's technically meant for goblins, but it seems like it work equally well for their larger cousins (who share their obsession with fire, albeit in a more methodical fashion). ![]()
![]() Would a hobgoblin be at all feasible for this adventure, with the whole Caves of Chaos thing going on? Having a goblinoid in the group might open some avenues for a more diplomatic approach. I'm thinking of an alchemist, a grenadier who has recently deserted from the Molthuni army. He would be able to craft potions and alchemical items for the group. ![]()
![]() I would definitely be interested. What level would we be starting at? The character I have in mind would be a sorcerer with the green dragon bloodline, possibly going into dragon disciple. Perhaps working with the Warden of the Natural World, specialising in the preservation of Castrovelian fauna. I'll wait for more details before getting too deep into it. As for what kind of campaign I'd like to play in, exploration would make sense—a whole new world and all that. As far as I know, the elves on Castrovel inhabit only the island of Sovyrian. Establishing a research colony on one the larger continents could provide opportunities for adventure and intrigue, as the party would have to contend both with the dangers of the jungle, and diplomatic relations with the other sentient species already living there. Of course, having some concrete goal to work towards would also be constructive. ![]()
![]() I don't have much to contribute when it comes to statting high-level characters, but I do want to point out that according to the Blood of the Night sourcebook, Kemnebi is a vetala, rather than having the standard vampire template (known as moroi in Golarion). Going by his name, I would assume he was Garundi, rather than Kelish. Geb was founded by exiled Osiriani nobles, and as far as we know, Kemnebi could have been around since then. Being a vetala implies some connection to Vudra, perhaps through Jalmeray. What would be his motive in getting involved in the events of Kingmaker, if you don't mind me asking? He is kind of busy running a country on the other side of the Inner Sea. ![]()
![]() I don't think that we have any more specific information than that. However, you should keep in mind that these are supposed to be at least partly mythical tales, with details varying according to the region. According to the goddess herself, the lessons are what's important, not the particulars. In this case, I think the lesson is about staying loyal to your companions in the face of adversity. Actually, I kind of like the idea of different temples portraying Nakorshor'mond in different ways, adding various traits to the beast's appearance according to their focus. A temple in Lastwall would present it as some sort of an undead monstrosity, while churches in Mendev might go for a more traditional demonic semblance. Another temple might deliberately portray the thing as an indistinct mass of roiling shadow, to put focus on the deed rather than the adversary. Really, the beast can be pretty much anything you want it to be, and can be used to support the theme and narrative of your campaign. ![]()
![]() Deaths Adorable Apprentice wrote: @Neirikr I rather like your writer. It is very much up my alley. For some reason everything I have been making recently has been happy go lucky which is weird for me. I sincerely hope we can gaze into the horizon together since I am liking your play style event though you seem to not like my Paladin. Hey, thanks! I'm glad you like him. And worry not, I've got nothing against your character specifically, just the concept of loosening the restrictions for paladins in general. I'm sure Ulric will be an cool character. If Renato does end up getting picked, it would definitely be nice to have a more straight 'revolutionary' character in the party for contrast. ![]()
![]() GM Rennai wrote: @Renato Vitrotti - Soooo emo. I take perverse delight in it. >:) Very neat character. Thanks! Emo is short for 'emotionally numb and detached from reality,' right? Growing up in Galt can do that to a person, I figured. I know 'tortured artist' is kind of a stereotype, but one with a firm basis in reality. Anyway, it's something I'm interested in exploring, especially in contrast to Jetta. Renato wouldn't be as openly angsty. More gazing into the horizon and wistful sighing, less broken pottery. :P ![]()
![]() Deaths Adorable Apprentice wrote: @Neirikr please pm me as well. Done. ![]() GM Rennai wrote:
The dichotomy is interesting, though I always saw Cayden's call for moderation as more of a casual reminder to know your own limits. It's hardly a vow of abstinence. He's still all about getting drunk and partying, and more lawfully minded people would see your average Caydenite's moderation as excess. Not drinking yourself to death is hardly an achievement in self-restraint. :P "Know your limits." Now, there's something fit for the Placard of Wisdom. There is a difference between bravery and foolhardiness, and you should know when it is time to get drunk and the time to stay sober. If you want to write a 'code' for a Caydenite holy warrior, I'd imagine it looking something like that. Short and simple adages, rather than vows and commandments. Cayden is not fond of telling people what to do. GM Rennai wrote: (And yes, I'd like the details of the archetype, if you don't mind. I know it'll probably be up within the next week or so, but I'm curious and impatient.) Done. I'm generally pretty adverse to loosening alignment restrictions for paladins (in case you couldn't tell), but I think they did a good enough job with it. ![]()
![]() GM Rennai wrote: @DAA/Neirikr - FWIW, the idea of a self-disciplined holy warrior dedicated to freeing others from tyranny makes sense to me; it seems fairly consistent with both paladins and worship of Cayden Cailean, especially once you incorporate the ideal that alcohol is to be savored and enjoyed responsibly rather than consumed in excess. Some of the most lawful people I know are beer/wine snobs. Personally, I think that there is a difference between devotion and discipline. Both Cayden Cailean and Iomedae are opposed to tyranny and slavery, but they have very different ways of dealing with those issues. A paladin of Abadar can enjoy wine, but they more likely do so to showcase their refinement, rather than as a way of intentionally loosening their inhibitions. Sure, you could take out all the parts of Cayden's faith that urge to hedonism and recklessness, but I feel that would also neuter the spirit that burns for freedom. Essentially, a Lawful worshipper of Cayden could still be good person, they just wouldn't be a very good Caydenite. But you're the boss, boss! Stick to your guns. Alignment debates being what they are... :P Deaths Adorable Apprentice wrote: I do not have that book yet so I cannot do so. GM Rennai wrote: @Neirikr - I haven't had a chance to get Ultimate Intrigue yet, and as far as I knew the stuff from it wasn't on the SRDs yet. What changes does the Grey Paladin make? Essentially, the archetype makes it so that you can have LN or NG paladin. As written, they still can't worship CG gods, but that doesn't seem to be an issue here. They are less devoted, so they are weaker in some areas, but also have more room to maneuver morally. Mechanically, at these levels they get some less honourable class skills, can burn uses of smite evil to smite nongood people who are not Evil, etc. I can PM both of you the specifics, if you are interested. ![]()

I will donate money and my services :) Psst. Your links aren't working. If I may make a suggestion, the new Gray Paladin archetype from Ultimate Intrigue might be more fitting for a Caydenite. I can't imagine any of Cayden's tenets making for a very disciplined holy warrior... ![]()
![]() Hello, Jetta here. I'm thinking of submitting an aspiring revolutionary writer, who has come to the peaceful calm of Azurestone to seek inspiration for his magnum opus. For irony, I think they would be a Sorcerer with the Imperious Bloodline. Maybe an orphan from a pre-revolutionary noble family, or somesuch. ![]()
![]() According to James Jacobs on some older threads on this forum, slavery is legal in Riddleport, but illegal in Korvosa and Magnimar. Kaer Maga is definitely the center of slavery in Varisia, with open slave markets and such. However, it's also home to a significant faction of freed slaves and abolitionists. I imagine Riddleport has some radically differing opinions of the matter as well, but the current leader seems quite greedy... As far as I know, Shoanti do not take slaves. I would imagine the cultural trauma of having been enslaved by the Thassilonians is too great for that, in addition to more practical reasons. Regardless, any half-orc children or defeated orc foes would probably not be kept around long enough to become slaves. I'm guessing other orcs are more likely to bring in orcs and half-orcs as slaves, in addition to defeated Shoanti. Of course individual clans, or renegade Shoanti such as those exiled to the Nolands, might differ from the norm. In the latter case, I think it would be more than likely. ![]()
![]() To be completely honest with myself, I would probably be strongly drawn to self-indulgent faiths, such as those of Calistria and Urgathoa. However, that is not the person I want to be. Irori's teachings are probably closest to my ideal lifestyle, so I would do my best to follow them. I strongly believe that bettering oneself—body and mind—is the key to a truly fulfilling existance. ![]()

![]() I really hoped the ARG or the Monster Codex would have given player stats for Gnolls and/or Lizardfolk. Other than that, I would really like to play a Large character. The problem is, of course, that most of the Large races have racial hit dice, and the easiest choices (Ogres and Minotaurs) are not really PC material in Golarion.
