Picturing the shadown plane like the upside down makes everything easy, for example for random encounters i could just use the same table and add templates and increased frequency rates.

For the plot i could change the things that happened before. The Count was a traitor to her, when she grew in power she become an annoyance and he plot with all the elders to vanish her. After that the elder exiled him for his irresponsibility.

The every one hated the another one since then, but she could do anything without being whole. when she recovers the sword merges into him.

When he notices, he crates his own champion, an alter ego on the material plane of the fallen character, wulfgaaard: primal shadow wulfgaard, templates primitive and shadow. the combat on which he died was very uneven, the character was underpowered but he liked it, he could have a shadow briar too.

now they have an decision to take:
-if they obey the nyrissa demands and kill the count, she says will stop the blooms
-if they obey count ralnac, he offers the champion to the party for killing nyrissa.

First of all, I have to say that the way the book has flippantly handled her retrieval of the sword is really dumb. It's almost as if the sword doesn't matter to her and is just a tool the PCs can use to kill her. Again, dumb.

yeah, and will she still have some interest in the river kingdoms?. I could stick to the plot but its doesn't makes sense. and also they will die anyway.

Fox Paws wrote:

You could even have her send word to the PCs that she would like to parley with them. She could propose a truce with them and a return of favours. She may halt her onslaught of the PCs kingdom if they agree to venture into the Plane of Shadow (I think that's where he is) and retrieve the Count.

this gave me chills, its a very good idea. A very hard one too apply too, there is any short adventure written about the shadow plane for inspiration?.

The Exchange

Well, nyrissa has the sword now. The Horned Hunter managed to kill a PC, grab the sword and deliver it to his mistress.

I dont know what happens next, i saw that all the book is written in the happy path. Where is the description about what nyrissa does when she recovers the sword? she is whole again, she still wants to merge realms? what is the point of that?.

I cant find it.

What happened in your games? nyrissa never got it?

I'll GM in a few hours. Please answer asap.

Ovinrbane (intelligent magic item) has this in the stat block:

Quote:

Special Purpose defeat/slay all; dedicated Power wielder

gains freedom of movement and dispel magic (CL 20th)
against opposing attacks and effects (the dispel magic
attempts to dispel any offensive effect once only as it first
takes effect on the sword’s wielder)

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/d/dispel-magic

I don't know how to cast that spell from an int magic item.

Can The sword set a ready action every round thats triggers a Counterspell against a spell being cast by an enemy?

Can the sword set a ready action to Targeted Dispel against a spell in the first moment it affects Armag?

Or is just a "no action" in Armag's turn which can only do a Targeted Dispel?

Or the sword just rolls initiative and plays like and extra character?

here are no simple questions for such a strange request. It would help if you gave us the agenda you're hiding.

If you're trying to browbeat a corner interpretation from your home DM, this is not the way to go.

I'm the DM. Judging people is wrong and judging people for a post is awful, go for a walk and think in what you have done.

I was thinking in a friendly NPC supporter that gives free attacks to my players when there is nobody to heal.

I was wondering if karmic bloddline is much more helpful than i initially thought.

Question is simple, can I chose to fail a concentration check while casting defensively?.

Thanks in advance.

The Exchange

So, I need help. I'm dming an adventure path, (Kingmaker).

Two characters died.
These players created new 9th level characters.

They chose creation feats and said the items they start with were crafted by them, therefore were cheaper, and started playing with much more equipment than they must had for they level.

I have a policy for these things, if it makes people happier, i allow it.

But I didn't notice how this would break the balance until it was to late. And i let the time run, it has been 15 sessions since they created the new characters. and Seems that if i don't do something it would ruin the game for everyone, because wont be difficulty anymore.

1. its legal buy cheaper equipment for having a feat? one of them argue that it is a common thing. (crafting in the background)

2. What would you do? sounds harsh to say to them to re buy all the equipment and/or change the feats.

3. do you imagine any in game, narrative or mechanical fix for this?

4. most of my problems are the very high AC's 40+ y 50+ at level 10. May be this wont be a problem in a couple levels and i just have to wait.

5. They have signature items, they made celestial full plates and augmented them to +3 (or +2 i don't remember). Cant you raise the enhancement bonus of a signature item? its prohibited in some book, i always had this doubt.

6. I don't want nobody to be mad with me, and i think i would be if i where in their position, i want the more diplomatic solution. If i have to fight for this or say "f!!# it, do what you want is just a game", i would choose the second option. So please don't tell me to apply GM Fiat. I just want to everybody have fun.

Thank you in advance.
sorry for my shitty english, i hope you can understand anything.

The Exchange

Thank youuuuu! im taking notes.

Karmic Sorcerer Bloodline:

Bloodline Arcana: If you are casting defensively because a creature is threatening you and you fail your concentration check, one of the creatures that is threatening you provokes an attack of opportunity from you or from one ally who is adjacent to the enemy. You decide which creature provokes this attack and which of its adjacent opponents may make the attack.
Run up to your enemy, fail to cast Arcane Mark, give the others free attacks. If you accidentally succeed, your can draw something on your enemies face. Have 11 Charisma so you don't accidentally succeed.

thats really cool, using quicken spell metamagic feat + magical lineage trait can i generate 3 atacks of oportunity per round??? O_0

i still have to fail the checks but I can use alcohol or another drugs to get more penalties.(can i choose to fail?)

The Exchange

It's just a idea until now, but can it be done?.

When i was young i played a mmorpg called MU online. MU was an awful game, but in that game you can create a unique build doing this: select a fighter, go for the highest constitution score that you can get for reaching an obsene amount of hit points, wear a shithy armor with the reflex property. When someone hits you, your armor will reflect 10% of that damage to the aggresor, you just have to heal yourself while the another one keeps hitting you and harming herself until her character is killed.

And i was just wondering how i can create a suicidal build in pathfinder, i think it can be funny to see how long i can survive.
Can you give some hints, any way of delivering free damage when receiving is ok.

Research until now:

Venom-Drenched (trait)
Benefit: You are immune to one specific nonmagical poison. If you ingest a dose of that poison (even if it is a contact, inhaled, or injury poison), it remains in your system for 24 hours; any creature that bites you during that time is subject to the poison’s effects.

Retribution (Su) (witch hex)
Effect: A witch can place a retribution hex on a creature within 60 feet, causing terrible wounds to open across the target’s flesh whenever it deals damage to another creature in melee. Immediately after the hexed creature deals damage in melee, it takes half that damage (round down). This damage bypasses any resistances, immunities, or damage reduction the creature possesses. This effect lasts for a number of rounds equal to the witch’s Intelligence modifier. A Will save negates this effect.

Shield of Dawnflower (spell)
Any creature that strikes you with a melee attack deals normal damage, but also takes 1d6 points of fire damage + 1 point per caster level (maximum +15)

wearing a spiked armor for grapplers (there is any way to force someone to grapple you? maybe with unnatural lust?? :p )

Animal forms? peluda, hedgehog, porcupine...

Shared Sacrifice
With this spell, you create a link between yourself and your target, and you can direct pain and damage through this link.
You only take half damage from wounds and attacks (including those dealt by special abilities) that deal hit point damage. The amount of damage not taken by you is taken by the target of this spell..etc

(with the previous spell im thinking of ways to do damage to myself that can be autohealed somehow on me)

Enlightenme with your knowledge, i trust in you.

pd: and sorry for the shitty english.

4 people marked this as a favorite.

Probably some spoilers from the fourth book:

Spoiler:

well, i just want to share the actual status of my campaign, two characters fell in charm of Ngara. Another one manages to escape, the third one doesnt show up for that sesion.
Ngara learned about the kindom and decided to take actiones, using charm and subterfuge, she managed to become queen of the kindom charming the actual king(Bokken :D) half of the pc's and all of the npc one by one.

Last sesion, the two players who aren't charmed escaped from an ambush in their own kindom. The queen was legalized in front of the people as the rightful ruler and the others were declared traitors to the kingdom.

At the end of the sesion everyone shared future tactics, the two "traitors" want to recover the kingdom, they will search for a reunion of all their allies (nomen, lizardfolk, soothscale kobols and feys from the forest)

In The opposite side, the other two players, will arise a militia, an undead cyclop army from the dead valley(one of the pc characters is a supra maxed necromancer oracle) or an army of undead centaurs from the other graveyard, and a elite army composed with all the npc's and former pc characters around the kingdom.

So, we will have a great war, at least 6 armies involved, and we'll use mass combat rules from Ultimate Campaign.

I am still trying to figure out how the situation went so bad in just 2 sesions. hahaha. Im so happy.

The Exchange

oops, sorry, it's the third book. i fumbled.

editing.

The Exchange

Hi, first i want to apologize for my shitty English.

I want to share with you the awesome end of session I had last Saturday.

I'm the DM, I changed the Vordakai spell lists and tactics little bit to match with the exploits that V has learned from the party in the last months.

The party lvl 9:
fighter tank
witch
ranged cleric with dog companion
druid with a lion

The fighter opened the door, they saw across the hall the throne of bones, V was there, he said some words and the combat begins. Fighter and dog try double moves across the hall to get near V.
witch casts Haste and moves a bit forward.
a are of green smoke appears centered in the door and spreading, affecting the casters, healers, and lion, druid was immune (cloudkill).
the group in the back casts buff and early spells.
fighter and dog fails the will saves, V on the throne was a major image.
lion runs forwards.
V was over the edge of the door, vanished and flying, he descends over the witch and casts slay living, witch succeeds the saving throw.
every one realized the chair one was a image and rush to the back entering the cloudkill, that already have affected the backwards group several times.
V get hit a couple of times. V controls the fighter with dominate person, and orders to kill the cleric firsts and the druid next. (The fighter is a destruction machine).
after that all was blood and darkness.

Druid manage to go away taking the lion with her, witch, dog and cleric died, fighter has +3 on will saves, and dominates lats 9 days!. He is a perpetual slave.

--------------------------------------

druid was in animal form roc, flying to centaurs tribe when a animal messenger approaches with the war warning on Tatzlford.
goes to the capitol city, informs, I added a custom NPC druid several months ago(to add some background of the histories on the first book), so they both went into roc mode and carried the lion, akiros, kesten, mikmek and jhod kavken flying to tatlzford. and ordered the militia to rush on the same way.

They reach tatzford, they met the new characters of the two player with fallen ones(palacleric and necromancer(thats gonna be fun :p)). They had replacements PC's for just in case :p. the third played used the other druid stats.

they won the battle of tatzlford easily, and the necromancer raised all the six trolls.

-----------

"Suddenly the whisper of the townsfolk rises in screams of terror when a massive black shape crosses the full moon on the dark night. The flying shape iluminates (light spell lv1) they see a skeletal linnorm crag flying to them, over it is a black shape, a red light can be seen in the center of his head, in one of his claws a silverish humanoid form shines."(the fighter and his mitrhil fullplate).

end of session

+++++++++++++++++++

i wanted to give a twist, in the other case the next session could be equal than the last only with new characters, V is intelligent and overconfident, in the book he says that he doesn't abandon his lair. But I preferred the cool factor, and i can think of a end of session better than this, i am wishing to have taken pictures of my player faces in that exact moment, jajaja.

---

I don't believe that its legal to raise the craig linnorm, i didn't look at the rules yet, but it will be an epic battle. Linnorm + Big V + Fighter VS. party + 4 NPC's same lvl + 6 fast zombie trolls

My players are very exited about this.

And if the things are going too crude I can get into scene the militia from capitol city arriving the battle. But a deux ex machina always has a bittersweet flavor that i prefer to avoid.

what do you think about all of this?
do you have some additional ideas o recommendations to offer me?

Thank you for reading my wall of text.
C-ya.

From spell description:

Quote:
Those that fail must end their movement and gain the entangled condition. Entangled creatures can attempt to break free as a move action, making a Strength or Escape Artist check. The DC for this check is equal to the DC of the spell.

if the character fails to break free as a move action, can use her standard action to downgrade it to a move action and retry the scape?.

The Exchange

good advices, but I can't use Cornugan Smash, i have a dex based build so i can´t power attack (low str).

I think that my idea is not that situational:
i have a dervish dancer 7 + unarmed fighter 1,
I almost always hit, i always use arcane strike.
attack bonuses: +19/+14
and i am always hasted so 3 attacks at +20/+15/+20 (plus flanking and another situational bonuses)
and range crit 15-20.
critical hit probability 25%.

this could happen a lot: i always would be helping the spellcasters with -2, -4 or -6 penalty to saving throws depending on luck plus a lot of damage.

The Exchange

Hi,

if i have weapon of awe spell on me:

WEAPON OF AWE
School transmutation; Level cleric 2, inquisitor 2, paladin 2
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, DF
Range touch
Target weapon touched
Duration 1 minute/level
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless, object); Spell Resistance yes (harmless, object)
You transform a single weapon into an awe-inspiring instrument. The weapon gains a +2 sacred bonus on damage rolls, and if the weapon scores a critical hit, the target of that critical hit becomes shaken for 1 round with no saving throw. This is a mind-affecting fear effect. A ranged weapon affected by this spell applies these effects to its ammunition.

and i have this feat:

Riving Strike (Combat)
Prerequisite(s) : Arcane Strike , ability to cast arcane spells.
Benefit : If you have a weapon that is augmented by your Arcane Strike feat, when you damage a creature with an attack made with that weapon, that creature takes a –2 penalty on saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities . This effect lasts for 1 round.

and my weapon this enhancement:
Cruel (+1)When the wielder strikes a creature that is frightened , shaken , or panicked with a cruel weapon, that creature becomes sickened for 1 round. When the wielder uses the weapon to knock unconscious or kill a creature, he gains 5 temporary hit points that last for 10 minutes. Cruel

Case: I score a critical hit using riving strike:

1. the -2 penalty on saving throws from shaken condition stacks with the riving strike's penalty? so it's a -4 on saving throws?
2. If i have a cruel enhancement on my weapon i can set sickened condition in the same sucessfull hit when i set the shaken condition?
3. shaken condition penalties stacks with sickened penalties? so it's could be a -6 on saving throws? (-2 shaken -2 sickened -2 from riving strike).

Thankyou

Good ideas! the summoning one is really god.

I thought on mage hand to someplace high, but i depend on the gm's description of the environment and the weapon mustn't be heavier than 5 lbs.
Or throw it far far away, (which rules should i use for distance?)

Create pit spell and let it fall?? unseen servant levitates??

The Exchange

Hi, contest:

Situation: I'm a melee bard, the combat start, I use pilfering hand on the bbeg's sword.

Now it's a hot potato!, i have cmd of 12, he's going to recover it in the next round via stealth or disarm.
I have only a move action. Or maybe i could move at full speed, but the bbeg will be adjacent to me in my next turn.
What do i do with the sword?, how i can be sure that he can't get it back?.

wins the most creative, cheap and time economic answer. Extra points if it doesn't destroy the weapon.

Everything allowed.

TL;DR

Just place some Nightmare Ettercaps in someplace in the dungeon.

My Bokken has a sheep, she was his only friend in the lonely wilderness. He takes her to walk through the city with a collar and a pet chain.
He worries for her safety a lot, he is always watching.
Bokken speaks to people with no eye contact, worries for mundane or inexistent problems, he sees green fairies everywhere, they say things to him.

I have big plans for that sheep.

Ah, Bokken is the ruler of the kingdom. Yeah, Bokken rules :D

Hi.

I have a +1 buckler = +1 shield bonus and +1 enhancement bonus to shield bonus.
On an immediate action my ally grants me +2 shield bonus with the Saving Shield feat.

Do I have:
- +2 shield bonus from the feat and +1 enhancement to shield bonus from buckler= +3?
or only
- +2 shield bonus from mi ally= +2?

I know that two shield bonuses don't stack, and two equal enhancement bonuses neither. But what happens when they come from different sources?

Hi, i can't find them in the store, they exist?

The Exchange

hi i'm currently running Rivers Run Red and the PC's are in level 6, they should be Level 7 when they start with the next book, but if my calculations are correct the gonna be in level 8 and a half.
When they ended the fist book they were lvl 4,8. I had to stop giving them quests experience in the middle of that book or they would be too much powerful in the end and the final battle would be boring.
An now i think i have the same problem just now it's later, dont know where the problem is, maybe i am awarding to much experience for random encounters, for example: what do you do when the players commits mass murder on low cr encounters?
the last session they killed 10 elks (CR1), 4k experience = 1000xp for every PC, and nobody ended up harmed.

Is there any maths to give them exp depending on the difficulty?

does anybody else had the same problem?

PD:sorry for my shitty english.

i use combat manager for tracking init, fast access to monsters and npc info, feats, spells, rules, generate magic treasure, etc.

In another campaign we use epicwords instead of obsidian portal to keep logs of experience and loot.

I've to do something like this.

Mi PC killed the mites, then negotiate a peace with the kobolds, and after that they killed the kobolds in the radish pack.

the kobolds felt betrayed and with the rissing anger the march to Oleg's.

The PC's saw the smoke and flames when they were arriving, they fight several kobolds to reach the fort, and arrive in the exact moment that Oleg's were slayed.

The Exchange

Awesome!, and i guess i can use adaptable luck + timely inspiration or adaptable luck + gallant inspiration on a single roll.

The Exchange

Hi, can I add the bonus from Adaptable Luck, Timely Inspiration or Gallant Inspiration to critical confirmation rolls?

The Exchange

Thank you all for the comments.
I think'll set some fees like 5% or 2% over the total amount, and a probability of 20% for failure (and if some failure exists could exist another roll for failure type >20%= Product not available, 20% assaulted caravan).

About the first year, yes, you are alright, it's important to feel that the development lasts a long time, it's more realistic. But, a good choice would be to limit the random kingdom events for the first year to a maximum of 4.

The Exchange

Hi! First of all, sorry for my english, it's not my native tongue, I know it's awful...

Doubts:
--> About magic items purchase: I'll start running the 2nd book, so I think my players will be purchasing a lot of magic items in Restov. I also assume that they will be sending someone to buy things for them. I've calculated the travel duration from Staglord's Fort to Restov, it's about 9 days from one place to the other (18 days in total plus some time for item enchanting if happens), and I wanted to know how do you manage this. Do you add extra fees on the purchases for the delivery? How long it would take to obtain the items? Also, do you have in mind the 75% chances for the item availability? and If the availability roll fails, when can be done the retry? How do you apply it?

--> About the first year: The suggestion in the book is to let the events and exploration happen after the first year of kingdom building, but how do you mannage this first year?. I Think I should run the four phases of each month narrating what the PCs did, and probably there will be at least 6 kingdom random events to resolve. The first year could take 2 session of play and seems kinda boring, will have too much die rolling and too little roleplaying. Another option would be run only upkeep, improvement and income fases in the first year. Make it quick and then start with all the other things. How did you run this?.

Thank you for reading-.
