Hmmm. Sorry about that. Well, yes, it happens that I don't read the entire text, I just skim over it to figure out whether the recruitment is already closed.

Well, I do have this character, originally designed for a Carrion Crown campaign. I must admit I am a bit uncertain about the "free form" part. That does not mean that players are supposed to create the impact of their actions on their environment as they see fit, does it? I have certain doubts about that. Also be sure to tell others if you will be away from DMing for a while and ask that they return the favor. Perhaps the #1 no-no is the DM just vanishing.

Indeed. One might be tempted to say: "That's kinda lame" if a GM comes around and says: "I'm not in the mood anymore, I will focus on my other games." but it's still a billion times better than a GM just vanishing from a well running game. And it is at least honest. I have experienced both.

Hope you don't have all too unrealistic hopes... forum games are slow. You post something and get to post again a few days later. And it is not uncommon for a game to just halt after a couple of months... I am around for more than a year, participated in six games in the paizo forums and all have come to a halt by now (though two are officially still running) and I have never gained a level.

If you're inclined to do the game master the players will swarm at you. If not... you better enjoy creating characters at least as much as playing them. (I know I do - especially when a good story pops into my mind and just needs to be written down.) ^^

On a side not:
I just noticed that my sheet lists "combat expertise" as feat. That's supposed to be "combat casting", of course. Never noticed that mistake.

EDIT: WAIT! It's actually supposed to be combat expertise. It's a prerequisit for "improved trip", which makes a certain degree of sense, because my main weapon is my deity's holy weapon, a whip. In retrospect I think that was one of the reasons why I gave her Int 14 in the fist place (apart from enjoying skill points and getting a bonus on int).

I suppose those were the ones I was looking for. Looks nicer than just put it in the profile...

Hrmmm... many of us use software that generate output. But that's a little too late for that now.

It may be helpful to use an online char sheet such as this:
https://drive.google.com/previewtemplate?id=0AjfaolOnvs6gdEZNenNDdVBTSDBPME 04S1JranRSSEE&mode=public&ddrp=1#

It's a template for Google Docs. Never used it... I've seen nicer looking online sheets before, but I don't know where to find them.

However. Important stuff:
In this forum you're supposed to create alias for the character you wish to use and then use that alias' profile page to dump your stats, story and whatnot. This post was made by such an character alias, for example - I am Feuerrabe, Narah is my character. My stats are listed in my profile page, which you can reach by clicking my name. (You will first see a list of my post, but can get to my profile from there.)

To do that:

  • Right click "My Account" in the top and open it in a new tab or window, so you don't loose this one.
  • You might be asked to sign in again. After that find the section "Messageboard aliases" and click "Create new"
  • Create an alias with the name of your character.
  • Choose an icon for your character. The "Pathfinder Society" stuff is irrelevant.
  • After you click "submit" you get back to your account page. Click the name of your new alias there. You're now "in" your alias.
  • If the profile tab isn't selected click it.
  • You can now create a profile there.

If you need your stats urgently I'd start by just writing down the original stuff and your background there. I.e. class, race, attributes, skill ranks, equipment, leftover money must be given, the rest derives from there....

I hope that was understandable?

I see, my mistake.

Have you considered worldly orders, such as the Eagle Knights?

Do paladins need a specific deity? Would probably be Desna or Chadira Zazuristan (however you spell it) if it matters.

The entry in the core rule book does not necessarily suggest that paladins revere a specific deity. Paladins adhere to a code and principles of righteousness and so forth... In fact it doesn't speak of religion at all. Some GMs might consider it implied in their ability to cast divine spells, however.

The likeliest choice for a paladin in general of the gods mentioned in the Core Rulebook (if only a brief list, they are not described there) is Iomedae. LG "goddess of valor, rulership, justice and honor and coincentally the youngest goddess in the pantheon.

Then there is Torag, a dwarven deity of forge, protection and strategy. Most likely choice if your character was a dwarf, I suppose.

Iori (LN) is extremely popular with the Vudrani people and very often revered by monks... though one might argue that paladins might strive for self perfection on some level as well.

I think the most obvious choice for a paladin in this particular campaign is Sarenrae, however. The true good goddess of the the sun, redemption, honesty and healing. Fierce enemy of all undead.

Apart from gods, there is always the Empyreal Lords, however. They are not strictly gods, but the most powerful of the celestials. In some ways it seems more fitting than actual gods, since they are servants to the gods themselves and the commanders of the armies of heaven (and Elysium, Nirvana and so forth...) Whereas gods are more concerned with their own matters at times, Empyreal Lords fight evil.

For a female character Falayna might be a good choice. (As a matter I did create a paladin of Falayna specifically for a Carrion Crown campaign, but chose to apply with a different character.)

Ragathiel might also be worth a look at...

Well, there are a couple more Empyreal Lords who have paladins listed as typcial followers, but that would lead to far now.

Again, unless the DM asks it, you don't strictly have to be a paladin of a particular god.

I am not sure who you meant with Chadira Zazuristan, but if it's Caydan Ceilean, that's a highly unlikely choice (which is of course just my opinion, an each to their own). Caydan Cailean is the drunken god, good, but undisciplined and constantly loaded. He is of course an outstanding adventurer... but it's rumored that the reason he rose to godhood was to... <euphemism>win the heart</euphemism> of Calistria, the goddess of lust, trickery and revenge, whose temples are in many ways brothels. Not sure whether he did. (Yes, I realize that Narah is a cleric of that exact goddess, but then she doesn't claim to be a paladin in any way and would highly amused if anyone called her virtuous. She wouldn't laugh out loud, of course, just smile a mysterious smile.)

Desna isn't really a bad choice, but she's a chaotic deity as well, while all paladins must be lawful.

Hello, fair maiden of the elvenfolk.
And hello, Val, handsome devil in a black dress.

(Val is Maia's raven familiar, in case anyone wonders. He speaks elven.)

I would like to put this character in for consideration. It has been used in a very brief Carrion Crown campaign before (to which also Maia belonged), which has come to halt on the very next in-world day after our arrival in Ravengro.

The character was created for a different campaign but should be according to your rules. (I just noticed I already dropped her to point buy 20 from originally point 25, so no adjustment necessary.)

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Well, it was ambitious to post here again in late october, Maia... it has been flat line for months...

I just add two quirks to the last step in the "10-minute-background"™ since I had only memories there so far.

I've added the ten-minute-background and the paragraph on personality to the character profile page. I've also rewritten the story. The original one was written in a bit of haste and in no good shape - the original application went over a tavern rp session, so I was in a bit of a hurry to complete the background so that I could participate.

The character is now point-buy 20. I had to reduce charisma from 16 to 14 for that, but I didn't see where else the points could come from. Technically sylph and cleric is not an ideal combination, since sylphs get a bonus on Int and Dex, but I do like the character as it is.

What yet remains to be done is spending the money and go over the ten-minute-background and the "subject of study" section of the story again.

Does that answer your question?

It certainly does.

The character already has a formulated background on the character profile page as well as a description of her appearance. The story is under "story draft" and "subject of study", the latter creates the link to Carrion Crown. I labelled it draft because I sometimes break down such an iteration of events to individual scenes to tell an actual story, but in Narah's case that would be too many scenes.

Alright. I finished writing a paragraph on her personality as well as tried to reshape the existing background into the 10-minute-background you requested. Both will be incorporated into the character page. Presented in this fashion the background is extremely condensed and fragmentary. The stats are yet to be adjusted.

I am not quite sure what you mean by keeping the gothic-horror theme during mind in character creation. Typically the heroes in such stories come are relatively educated and not part of the world of horrors themselves... on the contrary, since they stumble into it something unknown to them it makes it even more frightening. Such as Jonathan Harker in Dracula - a lawyer who's supposed to sell real estates in London to the Count on behalf of his agency, if I remember correctly. A relatively modern, aspiring man of his time...

Personality:
As a cleric Narah is usually calm and understanding, trying to see the truth beneath the surface. While she may be described as extroverted she is rarely obtrusive - she would think of that as being disgraceful. She prefers to communicate with small gestures and glances, rather than words. However, in those rare occasions she can have drastic mood swings, often triggered by seemingly innocent acts which are hard to predict. The subject of her fancy, her motivation changes every now and then, the only constant she has is that she's fiercly loyal to her friends, which included the late Professor Lorrimor. She is narcissistic and vain; any insult to her beauty or failure to acknowledge it can spark strong reactions and she is hesitant to get dirty in any way or do anything that qualifies as disgraceful in her own, particular view.

10-minute-background:
Step 1

1) Narah was born as a child of the temple in Katapesh, one of the last recently born sylphs in a female line of priestesses in which the blood of djinni used to run strong.

2) Her good and sometimes naive demeanor made her vulerable to the intriges and games for dominance in the temple. For a long time she tried to escape the grasp of the temple, but she was always tricked into turning back.

3) At some point in her later youth the high priestess of the temple, a former childhood friend, then secretly rival who posed as a friend, had a change of heart and released her from the ties of the temple, but encouraged her to finish her training as cleric among elves.

4) Narah travelled through Golarion several years, joined a Varisian travelling circus in Taldor, a band of rebels against a despotic king in the River Kingdoms.

5) While she had not consciously planned it, unconsciously she was still close to Calistria and her travels brought her to the borders of Kyonin where she met an elven priestess who concluded her training.

6) The event that lead to getting to know Professor Lorrimor was when she was abducted by cultists in Nidal and a devil tried to break her in their lair. Professor Lorrimor studied her and helped her heal many scars of that time.

Step 2
1) As both a Calistrian and a sylph Narah changes her views, preferences and goals from time to time. However, there are a few constants as listed below.

2) Narah tries to promote to others the ideals and way of life of Calistria, which primarily means lust.

3) As someone who grew up with intrigues even though she's really a bad schemer herself, she is fiercly loyal to her friends. That included Professor Lorrimor and Kendra inherits that loyality.

4) She fights those who try to limit personal freedom, sometimes along the clergy of Desna, though her focus is slightly different. In camps of rebels she acts as prostitute as well as healer and counsellor. She rarely acts as combat support, but isn't above it if need be.

5) Despite her kind nature, she's a narcissist, through and through and not shy of admitting it. She loves to be adored. While she belongs to neutral deity in terms of good and evil, in her dreams she often takes the role of a radiant angel.

Step 3
1) Narah had never had any intimate relationship with Professor Lorrimor, but remains silent on the topic. However, she did counsel him as priestess in matters of love and lust and knows a great deal about Kendra's mother and the Professor's relationship to her, as well as how much he loved his daughter.

2) She inherited a bit of air elemental ancestry from both her mother and her father, that's why the trait became so strong in her. Her ancestor on her father's side, a great-great-great-grandfather, a djinni, still exists. She doesn't know of him, but he knows of her... but not where she is since she left the temple in Katapesh.

Step 4
1) Alana Goldwell, an elven cleric of Calistria who completed Narah's training. She's both Narah's mentor and best friend.
2) Korik Grandon, a Varisian knife thrower from a travelling circus, which Narah joined for a while. They haven't seen each other in a long time. The only boyfriend she ever had to whom she remained faithful for more than two weeks.
3) Gavvin Moone, a cleric of Desna, who helped her get through the experience when she had been abducted by demon cultists and suggested professor Lorrimor to her. They share a deep respect for each other, but Narah's loose ways prevented any romantic relationship to ever take shape.
4) Naptha, the head of the temple in Katapesh, at least as far as Narah knows - she used to be a childhood friend, a rival and schemer and finally the woman that set Narah free, ashamed of what she did to Narah. However, she's human and almost as old as Narah herself, in her mid-seventies. It is unclear whether she still lives.

(Narah doesn't know her father and her mother died long ago of old age; both her parents were human, not sylph)

Step 5
1) Narah remembers being abused and tortured by a devil when she was taken captive while assisting the clergy of Desna in Nidal. He tried using her own faith against her, break her and turn her into darkness. While most of the scars - physical and mental - from that time have healed the memory of it still haunts her in her nightmares.

2) The sweetest memories she has Korik were curiously not the particularly intimate ones, but when he was throwing knives at her: He was a knive thrower in the travelling circus and she was his target, bound to a turning wheel. She will never forget the gleam in his eyes and how she just knew he would never hit her.

3) Another moment she remembers very fondly is when she first met Alana, stepping out of the forest Kyonin, backlit by the sinking sun. Even though Alana presented herself almost naked she maintained a dignity and grace that far surpassed Narah's own (which she is even willing to admit despite her narcissism) and, while the scene had been carefully set and chosen to be most impressive, there was a deep, elemental honesty in Alana's friendly smile.

Quotes:

  • "I'm like the wind."
  • "Married men? That's not what I do. It is after the clergy of Shelyn leaves a freshly married couple when we Calistrians take over and help the couple keep the fire alive over the years."
  • "If people didn't project every dark thought onto the beast inside them, they'd realize what beautiful beasts we truly are. The beast only becomes a devil if we don't accept our own inherent beauty."
  • "Calistria is an elven deity. I am sometimes repulsed by what humans make out of her."

Hello... I think I am gonna try to get into Carrion Crown with this character again. It still needs to be adapted to your rules, I've just skimmed over them for now since I am at work. I just wanted to get a foot in the door.

Narah, chaotic good female sylph cleric of Calistria

The character was first created for a different Carrion Crown group and to apply we played a tavern rp scene - on road to Ravengro, in a road tavern on our way to the funeral. It was rejected to the original group, but I rounded up five other characters with whom I got to play a lot in that scene. We found a GM within five hours, but a couple of days later it turned out that he didn't have the adventure anymore. I didn't persue the topic that closely anymore then, but still a week or so later another GM turned up and took over. We actually played for a bit, but we didn't get further until the morning of the next day after our arrival in Ravengro. So I do know a few bits of what's going to happen, but not really much. Our only achievement was finding out what a certain nursery rhyme meant, and I would certainly hold back giving the rest of the group pointers to that.

Somehow the spirit was broken after all the ons and offs and people didn't contribute as I hoped the would. My own fault was probably that I didn't make decisions when they needed to be made but simply said what I am going to do and list options what others might do, instead of giving everyone a clear path of action when they needed one (at that point, if they posted, people seemed to pop in briefly, just drop a line without keeping the whole of the story in sight and leave, so, while it may sound obstrusive, giving folks a simple task may have helped). Eventually the GM didn't post at all anymore and that was that.

The original tavern rp can be found here, the link points to my first post in it:

Narah leaves to check the statue and go to the graveyard afterwards with whoever wants to join her.

Well, what's it gonna be? Narah made some suggestions of what we might do, but you need to agree to it at least.

Daniel Chelas wrote:
Haha......i didn't expect for Narah to feel offended by Daniel being offended by the old lecher. All while the hothead doesn't mean bad.

Certainly not; you will just find it difficult to convince a priestess of Calistria that desire, as such, is ever a bad thing. ;) And Calistrians have a habit of being impulsive and unpredictable at times - even the good ones.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

"Sounds like the nursery rhyme references those five then. The Lopper lops a head, Father Charlatan tells a lie, the Mosswater Marauder kills his wife with a hammer, the piper feeds stirges and the splatterer has habit of using his victims blood to write their names. Or - if it was a she - one victim spelled her own name with blood."

That was an earlier comment on Maia's discoveries.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah cleared her throat, she burns to respond to that comment, but it just isn't the moment.. "Alright, then. We have 'the old man' to deal with and a statue to check. I can take care of the old man in your stead..." she nods to Maia "but only if you like to. Afterwards, there is still the matter of false crypt with helpful items which the professor mentioned in his journal and finally those symbols etched into the basement of the Harrowstone - hopefully it's relatively save to investigate the Harrowstone in broad daylight."

She looks around the group, fixating everyone with her eyes for a heartbeat. Or two in Morthos case. "Did I miss anything? I hope the items in that cache are good, because... well, if the area has been desecrated, even if I had the materials I needed, namely a lot of silverdust, I am unfortunately not powerful enough to counter it by consecrating it in the name of Calistria."

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah shook her head to clear it, temporarily clouding it in the mist of her hair. "Yes, of course. You're right... I should have thought about it. Fits into the scheme... So this whispering way is probably affiliated with Urgathoa."

After she gathered herself she casts a glance to Daniel. He didn't just imply that he intended to lecture her behaviour regarding desire by repeating the lecture he told the old man? Her? A priestess of Calistria? She fought her anger down - she was shaken given the circumstances, she shouldn't let it out on her friends, and Daniel was a friend. It wasn't very Calistrian to let go of ones anger and calm down, but it was Narahish. "I would very much like to hear it Daniel, in private." That he felt protective regarding Maia was a good sign, though. "Oh, and it's 76. My age I mean. I didn't tell you that night we met in the tavern, but I am actually 76 years old."

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah nodded to Morthos. Yes, that was the serious part of it. "Well, it's just folklore of a superstitious people, but it's everything we have to work with for now. And I would prefer to have some idea what we're facing if it cost..." she interrupted herself when her thoughts drifted to Lorrimor. "The image I don't get around is that scythe. Why a scythe? A scythe is the symbolic weapon of 'the reaper' sure, but it isn't useful to an actual executioner, because it is designed to cut things close to the ground. Actually the prisoners were hanged back then. I..." She took a deep breath. The loss of the professor, the strange, intense land and the indication of undead and cultists were seriously troubling her mind.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah smirked. "Lecherous, hm? Will you tell me what leads you that conclusion - you know I am too much Calistrian to let go of it now." She rested her fingertips lightly on her holy symbol for a few moments, almost as if to caress it, and an open smile illuminated her face.

A bit more thoughtful and serious she added: "He didn't paw on you or anything, did he? If you feel uncomfortable with him I will gladly handle it." This man just couldn't be more lecherous than she was herself. After all it wasn't just carnal desire but also a religious principle for her. "And... why five prisoners? Where only five prisoners in the Harrowstone at that time?"

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah goes to bed relatively late that night, spending a lot of time in the tavern to get a feeling for the natives and vice versa. She indicates her profession only here and there between the lines - she doesn't want to alienate the people by becoming too obtrusive with what the superstitious people around might well consider to be immoral which might easily brand her as a witch. And the people here really didn't like witches.

Her heart is light as she finally comes back into the room in the inn, the somewhere back in her mind she still tries to figure out what happened in this town, fifty years ago. Her last thought before she finally falls asleep (not counting those aimed at the more handsome looking young men in town) is 'Why a scythe?'

She doesn't sleep for very long, the sun is well up on the sky when she asks for the next well to wash herself. She only takes a few bits of breakfast and leaves quickly for Kendra's place to meet up with the others and share her findings.

----

"So what do you think? I suggest we try finding that hidden cache on the graveyard - hopefully Father Grimburrow can help a little - check out that statue of the incident and then have a look at the Harrowstone..." She carries her full armour again, even though she left the backpack behind, she seems ready to face whatever dark secrets might await them.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

During her night at the tavern Narah tries to get in touch with people. She doesn't try to hide the fact that she's different, but quite contrary explains all the tiny differences in detail, even though she will speak of her age of 76 years and the fact that she ages slower than humans only when directly asked. Her apparent age is 20 - 21. She doesn't take offence in prejudices but instead tries to set them right.

Beyond that she tries to learn the ways of the people here, learn their songs and sing them with them, dance a bit as the night progresses and share a few stories.

During the entire night Narah seems to be always having a mug in her hand and to drink quite often from it, but she only takes tiny sips, sometimes not even that. A handful of times she simply drinks water.

She will try to pick up a bit more information, but she won't push it. Once people are drunk she will encourage them to repeat and maybe explain the nursery rhyme she heard earlier on the street. What's the name of 'her', which is spelled just right? Are the in the later part and 'she' in the first part the same person? Are there any former prison wardens who survived the fire still alive? What was the name of the Warden and his wife and where did they live? Did they have a mansion in town? What kind of man had the warden been?

On the next occasion the group meets she presents her findings:

The story retold:
"Almost 120 years the prison has been built to not only hold criminals of the area, but the worst of the worst from all over Ustalav. The inmates were all sentenced to death or a life in prison, small time criminals were not kept there. The town of Ravengro was created around the prison, originally a settlement of the people running the prison. Consequently, the story of the prison is the story of the town.

Fifty years ago there was a riot during which the prison caught fire. The prison - the Harrowstone - was utterly destroyed, the Warden, which seems to be the title of the head warden, all others were referred to as guardsmen, died along with his wife who had been there for unknown reasons. All of the prisoners and many of the guardsmen, who were trying to prevent the prisoners from escaping, died as well. I find it think able that a young guard from that time might be still alive, but it would have to be an old man now.

It is said that the wife of the Warden still haunts the place as a ghost. And that the executioner still guards the balcony on which hangings took place. Curiously with a scythe, even though he didn't use one in life.

Walking the street earlier I heard a nursery rhyme ... first it suggests to decapitate an either sleeping or already dead woman with a knife, then it speaks of a woman being killed by a hammer by her husband. The man seems to be a figure to instil fear and thrill into children, suggesting that he will come for 'you' if you don't 'listen close'. Given how catastrophic the event of the prison burning down must have been, I find it plausible that the rhyme refers to events surrounding the fire.

A husband and a wife who died in the fire were the Warden and his wife. But the 'ghost' of the wife who supposedly still haunts the place is said to mourn her husband... which she likely wouldn't if he was her murderer. I believe the first woman may be someone different, but I am not sure... anyway, it's curious that the first woman's 'name', which the rhyme doesn't give away, seems to be of some consequence."

She curls her lower lip and thinks for a moment. "Well, the rhyme doesn't even mention a fire, so it might have nothing to do with it after all, but I just have the feeling, that it may be inspired by the events back then, at least from the limited view and superstitions of those left behind."

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

"No, as I told you, I am human just like you. And the hint of something else that there is, is not faerie.

Fairy are a strange lot. Some of them are benevolent, others malevolent. However, they are all easily offended and have a tendency to be unforgiving; but I did spent a lot time with nymphs, learning their art and view to seduction and desire. Some of which would scratch my eyes out if they ever saw me again, others who are still among my best friends.

No, you see, I come from Katapesh. In that realm air elementals and djinni are a relatively common sight. I think Katapesh is simply closer to the plane of air. While it is all at least a few generations back, several of my ancestors have been djinni. Therefore I have a stronger affiliation with air than usual, with birds, winds, vast open spaces."

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

"I can't say I know this place very well yet, but it's unfortunate that many don't come back. It seems to me that this place is somehow old and people are strong in tradition and their believes, but it has a certain, honest charm to it and the land is lush and somehow... intense." She grins as he says that not many like her come to these parts. "So, what do you think I am then? I give you a hint: I am mostly human, but there is a spark of something else, isn't there? What would it be?"

Narah spends the evening in the tavern, trying to learn to know the people of the town, introduce herself and explain what she is so people won't be afraid of her, encourage people to live their passions, but above all, try to find out anything worth knowing about the prison and the stories around it.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Not sure to which degree we have to play the evening out... I wouldn't mind summarizing the events a bit and continue on the next day. I am not sure whether going to the pub has been the best choice anyway - I might have talked to the cleric of Pharasma again, regarding the hidden stash...

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Naraj sips from her "ghost" as she listens to the tavern guest. It takes her a moment to realize that this was likely a joke and she laughs politely, even though her resonates in a somewhat unreal fashion to it. As the smoky streaks give her face away again she returns: "Were there any sudden disappearances of merchants in this town then?"

She's pretty sure that there is something in the old prison, but she won't speak of Lorrimor's journal or the circumstances under which he died.

Narah runs her fingertips softly down her neck as she thinks and adds: "I am Narah. And you are?"

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah steps lightly in with an aura of a warm breeze surrounding her and gives everyone a brief smile. She doesn't approach the bar all too fast and seeks eye contact with every single one in the room and her features seem to brighten up each time as though she was happy to see everyone in the room.

"Calistria's blessings over all of you - she may not be a light in the darkness but she is the heat within." she announces with a husky, breathed voice to the room. She's not speaking loud but rather uses the silence and the air resonates to her voice in a small wind that isn't really there.

Her entry took more than a couple of heartbeats but she seems to take delight in the audience, even though she is fully aware of the reservations regarding her person. Her steps seem even a bit lighter as she turns to the bartender, her light dress floats around as if driven by a storm.

"Just a drink, Master Elkarid, I think I've fed well enough today." She smirks as she realizes the names of the offered food. "You seem to be laughing evil in the face. I like that - hiding is not my thing, as you will probably believe. I'll try a liquid ghost... that's a drink isn't it? I should be very interested whether anyone has some stories to tell about this town and the secrets of that old prison to the south..."

She looks to a random guest next to her at the bar in curiousity and gives him a well measured half smile.

Narah waves friendly to Bran and continues to the tavern, indicating to him where she's going.

Narah nodded and smiled friendly. “Thank you.” she said and asks about other guests in the inn at the time being - she had been under the impression that their little group were the only strangers in the little backwater town for the time being.

It takes her a while to figure out what to actually wear, but she does decide for the highly suggestive silk dress eventually. There is no point in hiding the fact that she’s a priestess of Calistria and what that means. Emphasizing both her sexuality and her djinni heritage may be overly defiant, but as a priestess she’s bound to uphold her ideals. This town is gonna learn something about pleasure yet. She voicelessly formulates a challenge to the village as a whole.

It’s probably too late to find out anything about the hidden cache in the restlands from father Grimburrow, let alone the Harrowstone, so she tries the the local tavern. ‘The Laughing Demon’ as it turns out. A shiver runs down her spine at the name - for a people that lives so close to the world wound and is seemingly so superstitious that’s a remarkably unholy motive to toy with. If they aren’t afraid of demons, they probably have no qualms regarding a half naked sylph either. She smiles wide and enters.

Unfortunately it seems the tavern is deserted by the locals. Fortunately however, she finds Bran again. She steps silently by his side, though the motion reminds more on a leaf carried by the wind than walking.

How late is it in-game actually? If it’s not too late to pay another visit to the father I might do just that.

"Your parents are wise people" says Narah to the girls with a friendly, somewhat devious smile. "Should they ask who that stranger was you may tell them it Narah, priestess of Calistria from the far Katapesh, here to visit Professor Lorrimor's funeral as well as fulfill his last will." she barely swallows a 'Calistria's blessings over you', for the girls are a bit too young for that. She nods to the girls leaves.

----

In the inn:
She tries her most winning smile, knowing how delicate her request is in a backwater town like this. It is helpful that her host is a woman, though. Nonchalantly she speaks a forumala in Celestial and sways her hand along with it, as though it was some kind of greeting. Acutally she speaks a spell, enhanced diplomacy. "A wonderful day, good woman. I am Narah an'Aras from Katapesh and I am indeed looking for a room, but not just for a night, it seems I will be busy here in Ravengro for a month; actually as guest of Kendra Lorrimor, but..." Narah smirks and angles her head slightly: "As a priestess of Calistria I should prefer a lodging that would allow me to maintain some discretion over who comes and leaves. Would such a room be available here? I can assure you it will only be to your advantage." Her entire posture is an example of traditional feminine coyness and elegance. Only the somewhat sly half smile and her words relativise it.

+2 on diplomacy through enhanced diplomacy
a bit of luck on self - that's a spell like ability she only needs to touch herself to make it work. Only the better of the following two attempts counts.
Diplomacy Attempt 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Diplomacy Attempt 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Narah goes out to the inn to procure a room and maybe come to an arrangement with the host. She decided to be quite aggressively honest about what she intends to do there; if he throws her out she can at any time walk back to Kendra. There she would have to play nice, but be in very nice company as well.

She smiles as she watches the children play and tries to memorize the lines. While their superstition leads the people of this place to draw bad conclusions she cannot entirely ignore it either; usually there is something to it, even though not necessarily what people believe. The song makes little sense to her - first it asks to decapitate a woman, next it speaks of a man with a hammer, with which you can't decapitate anyone. Her "name" seems to be important but isn't specifically said. Narah nods her head for a moment and claps her hands in rhythm as she watches the girls play. "That's a strange song, but you play it very well, young ladies."

She moves on to "The Outword Inn" and walks inside, accompanied with the strange still breeze that always accompanies her when she enters a building, and tries to get an impression for it. She drops her baggage on the floor and looks around for a host. "Hello?"

Narah listened quietly for a moment. She didn't really like to wait and neither to leave her new friends. But she couldn't stay in this place and there were things for her to find out as well.

"If that's the case I better look for a quarter in the city and try to get in touch with the townsfolk. I am pretty sure my methods will lead to the one or the other interesting details regarding the Harrowstone. Let us not forget the hidden cache the professor mentions, though. We should best talk to Grimburrow tomorrow."

Narah looks between her new friends but has a bit of trouble following: "Library? What library? You mean here, in Kendra's mansion?" she breathes.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah leans back and thinks about the words from the journal for a moment. "Father Grimburrow told me that Professor Lorrimor's body had been found smashed under a Gargoyle in the said prison. And that the place was rumored to be haunted."

Narah sighs. "If we are to find out what is behind his death, protect Kendra and this town - however boorish some of the people may be - and drive back the restless we should speak with Grimburrow. Hopefully he has at least an idea which this crypt may be, even if he doesn't know. I'll pray for a spell to bless some water tomorrow. Calistria isn't exactly one of the good girls among the golds, but she's certainly not fond of such an abomination of life beyond lust; I'll need to consider carefully what to pray for if we are to face ghosts and evil cultists."

She runs a finger from her yaw down her back as she considers. "What do you think?" she adds to Morthos. "Any ideas what this might be? Did your order ever come across this Whispering Way before?" She folds her thighs and turns to present herself better to him, even though she her thoughts seem to be elsewhere and she sounds deeply concerned.

Narah looks for a window and to get an impression how late it is and whether there is still a chance to meet the father today or whether she should better go look for an inn.

For a moment Narah's eyes rest on Kendra and she smiles the strange, somehow knowing smile. 'My, she is a charm. I have one month to convince her to discard shame and learn a bit of the ways of Calistria... she could bring so much bliss to this dark place.'

"So... shall we go, make a small mystery circle in candle light and dip into the secrets of Professor Lorrimor? Who knows, maybe it mentions Kendra's name."

She points with her nose to where Maia has the journal.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

"Thank you, beautiful; I was just wondering whether the five of us should sit down in private and read it together. It took me a bit by surprise that Kendra was not informed on her father's studies; it may be of importance to read it at once. Maybe it was just an accident. But maybe the same evil that Professor Lorrimor had to face is still on to us. And we are bound in honour and respect to protect his daughter."

Narah, squirms a bit uncomfortable in her chair now and looks a bit uncomfortable to Kendra every now then and smoothes her black velvet dress with her white fingers even though it already is perfectly smooth.

Finally she finds a little smile within her though. "I like the sound of 'Kendra' actually. Has something wild and martial, but still deeply feminine. While I am sure it really isn't it makes me think of Azlanti."

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah slightly shifts in her seat as the others start to move.
"There is... something I would like to have a look at and might need your help for." She glances to Kendra on 'something' as if she didn't want to elaborate because of her.

"But it would be interesting to know what exactly your father was investigating... who knows, maybe we could honour him by finishing his work under your guidance." she adds, this time directly to Kendra.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Well, as the only other woman it would make sense if Narah shared a room with her, but Narah already said that she's not going to lodge in Kendra's place.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

'Damn it, I should never have been so direct.' She liked Kendra... that can be deceiving, makes one rush to soon too far ahead.

She pushes the thought aside as she listens to the hearing of the will. As she hears that they were to protect Kendra for one month she raises an eyebrow. As she hears about 100 platinum coins she opens her mouth in surprise for a moment. She leans back and runs her fingers through her hair thinking.

"This last will is merely a couple of months old. Hmm. It a bit strange; Kendra, you aren't really new to this place, aren't you? Why wouldn't you be safe and sound? And why would he offer us - not that I wasn't grateful - 100 platinum coins as a reward for a simple friendly turn. That's almost enough to erect a small chapel for Calistria."

"As for my lodging... I think I'll rather rent a room in the inn. I would prefer to act as priestess of Calistria while I am in the town and it would seem inappropriate to do so from your father's place. At least as long as I need to find a beautiful place that would serve well as a little sanctuary. Anyway..."

Narah collects the little key, unlocks the chest and opens it. After a quick glance through it she takes the journal and gives it to Maia. "You're the most educated of us, would you like to? I guess we better lock the rest up again." She closes the chest again, turns the key around twice and holds the key up for one of her fellows to take it.

Narah watches Kendra for a moment and rocks her head slowly from one side to the other. Then she leans forward touches the back of Kendra's wrist carefully with her fingertips and speaks to her with considerably lowered voice.

"I am the last to encourage you to settle down and have a family before you're ready for it... I am just saying, of all creation, I believe there is nothing as pleasurable as men. There is nothing as true, beautiful and fulfilling as becoming the beast we truly are and let the men hunt us and catch us. If you take care that you won't get pregnant you can use that to get you whatever you want from men; just be honest about it. I can tell you, especially when you travel a lot that can help a girl getting what she wants and leaving nothing but a smile and warm feelings behind; it's an act of balance of course. In the end we're creatures meant to mate and become one with the respective other. And it would be a shame to waste the gift of sexual attraction Calistria has given to you. I am just saying: Enjoy what you are, be honest with the beast inside."

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

"He wanted us to be present? Hmmm..." Narah ponders for a moment and picks up a slice of bread with lard from the plate, but doesn't actually bite into it yet. "Well, I had had an... encounter with a devil that had shaken me and marked me. I just couldn't stay in Nidal anymore and a friend who helped me a lot at that time, Karon Golding, a cleric of Desna, suggested to meet the professor. I was brought over the mountains to Nirmathas, traveled to Tamran and took a ship to Caliphas from there. Your father was teaching at the schools and advising the nobles there at that time. It took me a while to muster the courage and present my case, and the letter I had from Golding, but eventually I met him."

Narah takes a deep breath. "He was in a little office with books all around him, but when I entered he seemed to forget everything else. First he just listened to the few words I could come up with. Then he asked a few polite questions and talking became ever easier for me. He took me on a trip here, since he needed his full laboratory, as he said, but I suppose the more cosy atmosphere had something to do with it as well. On the travel we talked a lot about all kinds of things and by the time we reached here I had no reservations whatsovever anymore, he even listened to my counsel as priestess if Calistria. We talked about his travels, my travels, my experience with men - I could trust him to remain confident about it - and... well, other things that were not meant for anyone else's ears." She smirks. "He did talk a lot about you, though, Kendra. I let him gladly study the influence of the devil on me when we arrived here and he helped me get rid of the marks on body and mind."

"Now... would you mind a personal question in turn, Kendra? You're a charming, intelligent woman gifted by the Unquenchable Flame. How comes you're without a man in your company? Especially in times of grief it's good to have a man to lean to..." She gives Kendra a slightly roguish, but still friendly grin.

Female Sylph Cleric of Calistria 1

Narah considered the word's of Father Grimburrow. "Maybe the Professor did find something there then... if there were such rumors he might have wanted to investigate them." She shakes as the thought of Lorrimor's violent end gives her a shiver. "We might see about this later, after the funeral feast and hearing his will..."
