I have been stressing over this event all week! Finally think I have an idea on how I am going to run it. So thanks to everyone on the thread including OP! But a quick question.
Did you have the slugspawn deal damage when they started to burrow into the PC? also what about on the rounds other PCs are digging it out?

I had a player start hating his character mid way thru Trial of the Beast which is book 2. I told him that if he lives until the end of that book i would allow his character to walk away from the adventure and allow him to make a new one.

spoiler:
I had him be an initiate of the Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye. He fit perfectly in the story at that point as someone who is also working on destroying the Whispering Way. Judge Daramid introduced him to the group so the order can have someone with them as they sought out the Whispering Way.

Or he could be a thick headed trouble maker related to the professor somehow. looking for nothing more than revenge on the person or people responsible for his death. Missing his funeral because of trouble with the local law or something...

Hey Everyone!
I have a player who was raised by werewolves. Thinking about tying him into the story a bit more and this is the obvious place for it. I was wondering what tribe you all think he should have been raised by. So i guess here come the spoilers!

Spoilers:
I was thinking about having him have been raised by Mathus and the silverhides and having his last words to him inspire him to try and become the packlord.

or

the Rhakis of the Prince's wolves and convince him to let him become packlord...

obviously i want him to become the packlord.

thanks again for any tips on this!

Goose~

My group just finished book one on Friday and they are loving the story so far.
Is it just me or do each of the books/parts seem to be short and go by fairly quickly? My group is enjoying how much RP there is but still seemed to fly thru each of them. Ive even added in some encounters, both combat and RP.

Anyone add something into TotB that worked well?

Did anyone do anything special for the prison? My players will be crawling through tonight. Anything i should add/change/take away?

Thanks guys for all the input. It turns out I will be having a party of mostly 4 with an occasional 5th PC. Im going with a 20 point buy seeing as how my players are mostly still pretty new to RPGs and love to clear every room before moving on, in hopes of finding every bit of treasure.

Hey Im about to start GMing this in about 2 weeks. My group is also made up of 5 PCs.

How is your game going so far? Any tricks/tips you found helpful?

Im about to start GMing CC and was wondering if i should start my 5 players at the recommended 15 point buy or bump them up to a 20 point buy?
From what I have read this adventure, at least early game, can be pretty difficult.

Im curious what you all started your players off with and how well they did.

This thread is a few month old but I'm interested in hearing about how things turned out. I will be startng at level 6 with a new character in an undead heavy game and the witch had always looked like a lot of fun.

Wizards who select a bonded object begin play with one at no cost. Objects that are the subject of an arcane bond must fall into one of the following categories: amulet, ring, staff, wand, or weapon. These objects are always masterwork quality.

CRB seems to think its free.

A radius refers to only one axis therefore it would be a cylinder of mythic force.

So it would seem you could also use a large lance while mounted with two hands.

I don't see any difference with the large EB other than in order to do so you need to waste a ton of feats.

I also don't see using a large EB as game breaking in any regards. Sure you can deal a quiet more points of damage while not full attacking but full attacking mathematically is almost a wash.

Can a medium creature dual wield two medium lances while mounted?

And being proficient with it you can wield it as such.

This whole argument seems pretty black and white to me.

Its considered a one-handed weapon and if you are proficient with it you may us it as a one-handed weapon. A large one-handed weapon must be used in two hands.

So what is it exactly that is keeping you from using a large bastard sword in 2 hands?

Isn't the Bastard sword ONLY found on the one-handed exotic weapon table?

Before i actually read it i was under the impression it gave you proficiency with all martial weapons after reading it its clear I have no idea what im talking about!!!

From reading its clearly not C. Choose a type of martial weapon. You understand how to use that type of martial weapon in combat. You can gain Martial Weapon Proficiency multiple times. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a new type of weapon.

I guess the real question is what does the feat mean when it says "type of weapon"

One other clarification.
Summon Eidolon says Treat this as if you had summoned your eidolon normally. Doesn't that mean through the ritual of summoning your eidolon?

In this situation Lazar a bastard sword aka a one-handed weapon is the same thing as a one-handed weapon aka a dagger only difference being the dagger is a light weapon. With TWF you most definitely would be able to freely wield two bastard swords but take the standard penalties.

Gilfalas that is actually untrue. The post you are talking about either ended on the consensus or was FAQ'd in that AoO's can provoke another AoO and continue to provoke until one is out of AoO's, a PC only has a limited number of them to begin with and that is only with Combat Reflexes.

About the Paladin aborting his charge to make an AoO I also disagree.
The CRB states If an attack of opportunity is provoked, immediately resolve the attack of opportunity

What about the flavor text?
Is it just poorly written and have nothing to do with the actual feat?
You have the power to call your eidolon one additional time per day.

I'm building a summoner for our current campaign and while I was looking over the feat list I came across Summoners Call and it brought up a question that I haven't been able to find answers for.

Does this work when I use the spell Summon Eidolon or only with the summoning ritual?

It also seems like this stacking with augmented summoning which would give +4 str +2 dex and +4 con just seems ridiculous when paired up with the summon monster Sp.

What if you were an alchemist and already add your INT modifier to splash weapon damage?

Also what if you were to enchant the launching crossbow would that then enchant your affect your bombs?

An attack is a standard action.

And yes. Named Bullet and Greater Named Bullet can be used on ANY thrown weapon, including bombs. I've always played with it only affecting the primary target because the wording of the spell keeps referring to "selected creature".

Can't help you out on all your questions but...
yes it is a standard action to throw any splash weapon regardless if its at a grid intersection or target.
The critical threat range off all splash weapons including bombs is 20 at a x2 multiplyer. As far as bombs go only the first d6 is multiplied. So if you are a 5th level alchemist and you score a critical your damage would be 1d6x2+2d6+int mod+splash not 3d6x2+int mod+splash.

Thanks guys for all your responses!
it still seems that there is a little disagreement on how this all works out. But I think the majority all agree that the DC10 ride check is enough to get a combat trained mount mount to attack and that is good enough for me!

Thanks! Goose

I do understand that the ride check does state that with a DC10 you can attack with your mount but I don't understand how or why you wouldnt also have to make a DC20 Handle animal check.

I guess this also brings up the question what exactly is "combat trained"?

Other than the urban barbarian archetype is there anyway around this?

So making your combat trained mount attack is only a ride check and not a handle animal check?

Can anyone point this out in the rule book?

One of my players is currently playing a cavalier and was thinking about taking a couple levels
of barbarian...

This got me thinking. He is a gnome cavalier on a wolf and when he can he has the wolf attack which requires a handle animal check(charisma based skill).

If he does dip into barbarian how can he get his wolf to attack while he is raging, if barbarians can't use charisma based skills while in rage???

Thanks in advance for any insight to this!

I was wondering the same thing... any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Another question I had was in order to make a mount attack
don't you need to make a handle animal check which is a Cha based skill
so how can you do that while raging?

Thanks for any info!

THis looks so fun!
I am gming this AP and loving it so far. My players have just defeated Rohkar and found Lady Argentae.

We continue tomorrow and i hope we can get to the battle at the winter protal!

This is my first AP as a new gm and so far my group and I are liking it a LOT!
You do have to come up with some cleaver hooks to keep your players on the right track with out the need for the black riders geas.
I also threw in some side quests.
Reading this AP did seem very railroady at first but so far both my players and i have really enjoyed it... We are only about half way thru book one but so far its been great!

Does it sound fair? Yes and No...
Its blatantly house ruling away from the RAW but then again its house ruling. As players when house ruling is in our favor its a great thing and when its not it sucks this is not in the players favor and for him/her it probably sucks really bad.

Awesome thanks Nef!

Ok so Im running an adventure path that has an ability with a Fort save...
Later in the text it reads that the save DC is charisma based. Does that just mean when calculating the fort save the pc should use their CHA modifier instead of their CON?

That's a great idea Taku!

Thanks again for all the above guys. I will be talking to my players before the next session andtry to get used all in the same page or at least come to an understanding we are all ok with. I think we can all fund middle ground we see good with.

I will let you guys know how our session goes on Tuesday.

MG

Thanks for the advice thus far guys!

Moondragon Ive already tried to reward extra xp for good roleplaying and cleaver solutions for any situations the PCs might find themselves in and everyone but these two are all on board but these guys just complain about me favoring the other 3 players...

I guess I will try and talk to these guys a bit more and try to find a balance that we are all comfortable with. Ive read some forums about totally negating the xp from combat and only reward it for rp but this seems a bit extream. Does anyone have some good middle ground options for me?

Yea i will try talking to my rp whiner before next session. i dont want to have him leave... just stop whining

I dont mind if a player asks me a question in fact i encourage it! Especially since we have a new player but what does bother me is when a player clearly asks me a question when im "in character" and they are just looking for a straight answer from me and not from the npc.

I dont care about using voices or anything like that but i do feel like your character should be in dialogue with my npc... Do i just have too high of expectations?

Basically the title of the thread says it all...

I am GMing a game with 5 PCs and 3 of them really do suck at the rp aspect of the game. 1 is really trying to get into it and rp his character the best he can (this is his first rpg) so this thread isnt about him at all. But i have 2 players that really just suck/hate rp.

So here is a little summary of my problem... Everytime there is even the slightest bit of dialogue one of my players just sits back and shuts down, whining about everything the other players are doing until he can have a chance to throw a fireball at something. And my other player always asks me about something in game he wants to know and when i point out the HE cant ask me that he lets out a huge sigh and in a mocking tone "his character" asks me the same exact thing.

Ive looked everywhere for advice so now its time to see if you guys can help a fella out.
