Appearance
--------------------
Morthos has a relatively plain face for a tiefling, though his ruby-red skin and long horns still stand out and tell of his ancestry. His utility clothing does not seem to match his personality, but he is otherwise well-kept.

A frustrated looking tiefling, tall with plain explorer's clothes follows close behind her. His skin is a distinct ruby red, and his eyes are opaque and yellow.

Behavior and Personality
--------------------
Morthos comes off as haughty and sometimes condescending (especially towards his younger siblings). However, this is really just making up for time spent shut away from the world in youth, and silent resentment at the time without his mother.

Given his background, Morthos is a little suspicious of the Society and is constantly observing and judging from within his recent enlistment.

Background
--------------------
Despite the heavily infernal influences in Cheliax, tieflings do not exactly enjoy an exalted place in society there. As such, Morthos grew up largely out of plane sight in Egorian, as his father had learned to live much of his life. Yet his mother, having given up a noble life of status in choosing her partner, stuck with them until her eventual banishment when Morthos was very young. It seems she had gone back to her family and pushed them to accept her chosen family, and caused enough of a stir that they sent her away so that she could not cause waves in their social circles. Unfortunately, Morthos’ father was bound by devilish crafting-skill contracts with severe consequences and could not follow her. In his heart, he gave up his partner to whatever happiness she could find abroad, but Morthos’ silently resents her starting a new family in Osiron.

From a young age, Morthos had displayed some talents for magic and so his father procured what services he could, when he could to train his son. Meanwhile as he got older, he took a few opportunities to travel and visit his mother. They were awkward, uneasy occurrences and he never felt a strong connection to his step-sisters, but they wrote back and forth periodically. Not knowing how to act towards them, Morthos took a patronizing tone in his letters, advising them on how to profit in the world and survive on skill. So it was with surprise that in their latest letter he learns their youngest sister Lidya became inspired to join the Pathfinder society.

Morthos immediately wrote a reply advising against this and set out to visit his mother, and two younger sisters another time. By the time he arrives Lidya has already left for Absalom. The appeal in his letter did not work and he would not get the chance in person. He would never see her again… in her life.

This will pass, he reasons. So he stays with his step-family to await her return after her first mission. Instead, weeks later the family receives word that she did not survive her confirmation. More than sadness, Morthos feels deep anger for her death and sets out for Absalom immediately, forsaking the incomplete magical training that he left behind in Egorian.

He becomes something of a haunt at the Grand Lodge, poking into her case and questioning Society leaders on her death. The answers are never fully satisfying to him. One night, he dreams of his sister, very vivid and real. She speaks to him of her excitement of going on adventures and how despite her outcome she would make this same choice in every chance given. This angers him, even in his dream. He awakes in surprise to two observations: a shimmery visage of his sister stands at the foot of his bed with a glowing rune on her forehead, and that same rune imprinted on his upper-chest. It glows even through his night-clothes. The rune is a very simple depiction of a road disappearing into a setting sun. Lidya implores Morthos to join the Society, and explains that she has lost her memory of the mission incident and that they must seek answers from within the organization.

Days later, Keliara arrives in Absalom and joins her brother. She speaks of a pact she made with an otherworldly entity who she can commune with through a fox that has grown attached to her. She also speaks of the promise that this pact would return their sister, and while they have her in a spirit form both Keliara and Morthos are suspicious. Still, Lidya presses again and implores both of them to join the Society. Finally, running out of other ways to get answers, they give in.
