RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

yeah, i suppose it must. if you are looking for a player in any other games, let me know!

RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai looks like he's about a quarter tank short of full HP

RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

ah my bad I hadn't played the character in awhile and I saw he was at +10 to hit and I assumed wrongly

RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

ah woops. here we go:

  • Mordecai first round of attacks (hideous blow; flanking, if applicable, not calculated in below rolls):
    1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
    1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (6, 7, 5, 7) = 29

    1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
    1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (6, 8, 8, 1) = 27

  • Mordecai second round of attacks (hideous blow; flanking, if applicable, not calculated in below rolls):
    1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
    1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (4, 8, 3, 4) = 24

    1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
    1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (3) + 1 + (3, 6, 6, 4) = 23

After the second onslaught, Mordecai 5' steps back to get some room to breathe.

  • RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

yeah even with the DR 4 that onslaught was BRUTAL!

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai has DR 4/cold iron, so lemme know if the vrock's natural attacks count as that (i dont think it is likely, but i have seen kookier abilities). If the DR applies, that is 20 less damage he suffers (5 attacks at 4 less damage each)

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai will move in for a hideous blow, flanking if possible.

    1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
    1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (4) + 1 + (7, 7, 7, 1) = 27

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

    fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

If that daylight spell didn't work, Mordecai will cast darkvision on himself.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"might as well spring it. no use in tiptoeing past all the dangers of this place..."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Something magical in these pedestals and lamps..."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"I can see the traces of magic used to cloak them, but that is rarely good enough to see an animate target."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

    "caution is rarely unwarranted."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

made the save, not sure if there is still an effect on success. with any luck, i'll turn into a worm that walks!

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

fort: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 Mordecai will try to summon his eldritch energy in his hands to burn the vile vermin.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai will physically examine the two cloaks that look promising.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Hmm, lemme look..." Mordecai says, peering at the cloaks with his arcane sight (detect magic)

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Perhaps we should check the closet first?"

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai waits for a reaction from the boy from the others moving past before he moves past.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

to determine the school of magic on each:
    Know: Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 vs chair
    Know: Arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 vs child

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai will detect magic, focusing first on the incense burner, then the rug, then the chair, then the child.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai follows the direction of the group.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"I'm of no mind to play around with this phenomenon. We should move on."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"The magic in here is nearly blinding" Mordecai says with some discomfort, blinking away the bright lights.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Well, I will see about the magic at least," Mordecai says, eyes taking a blue-green sheen.

detecting magic on the chairs, then any other strange phenomena such as inanimate objects moving. Trying to see if this is a mage's tricks or actual poltergeist.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai follows, letting settle the issue of the door.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"I will follow as you tougher sorts direct. I'd rather not be in front of our merry warband."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

    "Hmm. perhaps a... remote detonation?"

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

    glad i stepped away

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"I see no magic on it." Mordecai remarks, before backing up and giving the man room to open the door.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai will detect magic on the door to see if there are any magic traps or locks. and hope my eyes dont get blasted off by some kind of explosive runes

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Hmm, which direction shall we go?"

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai follows at a slight distance towards the middle of the party. Far enough back that he wont be the first to encounter a new threat, but close enough to the front he can step up in case his arcane abilities are needed.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

    "I should say so."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

sorry i am used to DMs prodding people.

"I am unscathed, but Hess took a mighty slam from the creature. Let me get a look at those stones..."

Mordecai will detect magic on the stones.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai once again slams the rock with a ghostfire-wreathed fist.

melee attack with +1 cestus, using hideous blow invocation (not subject to SR, (the damage results from pure arcane energy and does not possess an energy type, therefore energy resistances and immunities offer no protection).)

    1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25 to hit
    1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (2) + 1 + (4, 2, 3, 3) = 15 damage

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai steps forward and winds back his arm, his gauntlet spilling over with eldritch energies. As the hideous blow connects, the creature is rocked by the force of the warlock's strike.

5' step, melee attack with +1 cestus, using hideous blow invocation (not subject to SR)

    1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24 to hit
    1d4 + 1 + 4d8 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (1, 8, 6, 5) = 22 damage

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"I don't anticipate much in old stones, but I've been surprised before..."

Mordecai does as bidden, searching the stones in particular with detect magic.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

    "Indeed."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

Mordecai will follow his companions, careful to cover up with his cloak so the vile mist cannot find purchase on his skin.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"I shall take a closer look."

Without getting closer to the bodies, Mordecai will focus on them with his gaze of detection.

detect magic, focused on the bodies to see if there is a spell involved, and if so what spell
    arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 to determine spell's school, if aura present
    spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17 to determine properties

    also....

    religion: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27 for good measure
    perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28 with Ghost Sight trait

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

I MUST DETECT EVERYTHIIIINNG!! But I catch your point. Like an extradimensional twilight zone. Very eerie so far, I like it. It reminds me of the good parts of Ravenloft, without the crappy parts.

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Interesting lack of decomposition," says Mordecai before casting his magically enhanced gaze on the bodies, expecting necromancy.

    detect magic
    know arcana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
    spellcraft: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Aah, I see. Not just metal, but even cloth. The mist seeks only flesh. Interesting. I am surprised I did not sense necromancy in this effect... No matter," Mordecai says as he pulls his cloak hood up and tightly envelops his whole body in the cloak before stepping through.

i guess that is what the cloak of resistance is for anyway... resisting things

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Perhaps discretion is the better part of valor here. That mist might even be to keep those bodies in. Come on out, and we will return here. I am not going to walk through that mist, lightly armored as I am."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Well, Sasha made it through in armor just fine but that rat did not. And now he says it is acid, not cold. I have no invocations to blow away mist. Sasha, can you see anything in there like a shield, table, plank, et cetera that we could hold above ourselves so that those of us without armor could make it through without that mist touching us? I looked around out here but I don't see anything."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Hmmm.... does anyone have a shield?"

Mordecai casts about for an intact door or something similarly slab-shaped and relatively thin of a material other than stone (which is likely too heavy for him to hold up).

    perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"I do, but I have no way to confer such a resistance to you."

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

we havent gotten too far for you to *poof* in, heh...

    RETIRED 29/42 hp Warlock 7

"Do what you must, I was just checking it out. No sense letting you run through some acidic fog if the good ol' rock test could have saved you" Mordecai says, as jovially as he can pretend to be.
