By the time Mogwai gets back from his multi-day excursion of trying to get a better lay of the land, searching for the drowned child's parents (and any other survivors), and attempting to find a sustainable food source, a whole lot of trouble has already occurred. As Murob fills him in on what's happened, his ears (once heightened with interest) droop further and further, the ends curling in on themselves as they slip lower. "Mogwai not understand. Blades kill druid? Capture Sorala?" He shakes his head with a heavy sigh. "They learning nothing. Perhaps best mngwa end them."

Feeling excited, Mogwai starts to speak quickly, half his words lapsing into goblin, before he stops himself and slows down, trying again, starting with what they already know. "Mngwa spirit, not be killed. Will be reborn. But also spirit that Murob say cannot be talk to. Is Revenge Spirit." Mogwai pauses here to draw a circle in the sand around them with his claws, as though such a thing might protect them, before finally getting to his point. "But Murob say that spirit is also made by other spirits. Mngwa Spirit-Weapon. We talk those spirits, they put weapon away."

Mogwai spends the early morning in prayer and meditation, thinking of what Murob told them of the Mngwas. A name similar to his own, but of a very different essence. While the others were interested in dealing with the spirit, it was unclear what the proper approach was. It couldn't be killed, or reasoned with. It wouldn't stop. And depending on what transgression had been committed, it may not even be able to atone for it. And even if one could, how would the creature know? The puzzle eludes Mogwai for much of the morning, despite his prayers for guidance, until finally, something clicks. Mogwai rushes around the camp, searching for Murob, and eventually finding her. "Mogwai have thought about Mngwas. After find out what happened, Mogwai have idea."

Mogwai spends most of the dialogue listening, both because he's somewhat uncertain of what's being said (since large parts are in Arcadian and even the ones that aren't are delivered rapidly), and also because he wants to see how the others will handle the situation. As the Druidess quickly leaves in the direction of the fire, concern spreads across Mogwai's face. Even without knowing all of what was said, he knew enough that it wasn't the handshake and well-wishes he'd hoped for. Her expression and running in the direction of the fire spoke volumes. Mogwai moves quickly after the Druidess. "Angry face. May bring danger."

Mogwai nods at Yosiah and Murob's responses, feeling significantly relaxed that he wouldn't be standing alone, as well as quite impressed with how quickly Yosiah had picked up the Common tongue. Certainly he had more eloquence with it than Mogwai did. Mogwai didn't know enough about linguistics to know whether Yosiah's native tongue was closer to Common than his own (nor enough to even know to ask that question), but he was pleased that it had happened in any case. They needed all the allies they could get at this point. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
As the group reaches the clearing where the wolves had been resting, Mogwai begins sniffing around, trying to get a lead on which way they may have gone to, whether the Druid changed form here at all, or if indeed the others were right and they were being watched.

Mogwai is distressed over the scene, and over the bloodlust that it fills his comrades with. He sticks close to Murob, concerned about being outnumbered by the others, wondering if they'd kill him to kill the druid. Despite the plants overrunning the place, he wants to believe that she can be reasoned with. While it's a cruel way to fight, these are things that happen in nature, and Mogwai understands that. The humans are so used to their city life that they forget. Wolves tear younglings apart, sever body parts. Mogwai clings to this idea of just a pack of wolves until Murob points out the tracks, at which point his heart sinks further. He was certain there would be no reasoning now. The others wouldn't allow it. Lines had been crossed and only blood would satisfy them. Looking up at Murob he says "Must kill now?" still hoping that at least she would tell him no.

Mogwai shares in the civilian's worries, especially where Breddaric is concerned, but tries to instill in them a sense of hope. He says that the gods are looking out for us, and that more of us are finding our ways here, that things will get better, and so on. But he's not stupid, and realises how precarious the situation is. Nothing he says is in such a way that diminishes their concerns. Afterwards, Mogwai again faces the dilemma of the missing people and the adequate food supplies. Both problems would need to be dealt with before long, for either starvation or despair would be enough on their own to kill this encampment. Both of those things combined severely diminished the available time. Mogwai decides that the first thing he must do is leave First Landing, even if it's alone. Spending more time in the surrounding woods would help. Looking for evidence of others passing through, finding animals to hunt, and searching for the supposed Druid. Looking at the conditions of First Landing, Mogwai frowns, thinking it's probably better that he doesn't go too far away. Sitting down in the dirt, Mogwai draws himself a map from memory of the route they took, at least as he remembers it. Thinking about how long they went and in what period of time, he starts contemplating how much he can search around the surrounding lands. Perhaps they could put up some kind of... what was the human word for them... signs? Helping to lead people who were not skilled in tracking. With a grunt, Mogwai pauses in his planning, gets up from the dirt, and moves to find Murob. He gives her a short bow as he approaches, apologetically. "Not try being interruption. Mogwai have thoughts." Gesturing to the woods beyond first landing, he continues. "Need get familiar with land. Look for missings, find beasts for eat, search for druid, bring trees. Must add knowledge." He searches for the words. "Must... tame lands." He points to the sun still moving towards the sky. "Mogwai start now."

In the morning, Mogwai joins the prayer. While it's not to the deity he worships, he thinks it's important to be involved and present, and see if he can learn anything about the fledgling community. Diplomacy to Gather Information: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 We've only really heard about how the town is doing from Breddaric, whom Mogwai doesn't really trust. How do people seem to be doing? What's morale like? Anything to be concerned about more than the problems we've been told? After the service ends and he finishes learning what he can, Mogwai returns to his own "lodgings" to have a private prayer to Sarenrae, before following the others to the boat prison. As Breddaric gives justification for beating the Gillman, Mogwai looks at him in disbelief. "Not could beat the language into him?" He asks, dryly. "Your tongue not easy learn. Talking with fist not help." He keeps an eye on Breddaric, but as the others also come to the Gillman's defense, Mogwai nods, satisfied, and steps away from the others with a sigh of relief. He's pleased that his companions are in agreement about these things. There was too much to deal with to have to be looking after them. Breddaric alone was problematic, others seeing things the way he did... well... Mogwai was glad things weren't that way. Mogwai is already moving away when Breddaric comments about not helping their enemies, and he pauses and frowns. "Long shanks, short sight." He mutters, mostly to himself, before he continues walking. Gonna wait to see if my Gather Info bit gives me anything pressing before I dictate the rest of Mogwai's morning.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 Mogwai smiles wide as he sees the newly created wooden buildings, thinking about how this land was all wide and untamed, but a settlement was here now, and in months and years, it would be thriving. People from all over could come to see it, to trade or pass through or live. Once again he thought of creating a town for goblinkind, one with schools and churches, one where anyone would feel welcome and safe. As Breddaric begins to mention troubles and talks of others arriving, Mogwai's smile fades and his ears fold down. "Only sixty." He mutters, thinking of how many people would have been shipwrecked and weren't yet accounted for. Many of them could still be lost in the forest, or captured by the Watermen. But as Breddaric's tale comes to a close, Mogwai feels the pull of being needed here, too. Whatever decision was made about where to concentrate their efforts, it was likely that others would die as a result. Mogwai weighs the options, coming to the conclusion that it wouldn't do any good to save anyone in the forest if it meant coming back here to starve to death. With a heavy sigh, he responds. "Mogwai talk Druid. Deal in peace." Obviously feel free to disagree with Mogwai! Cat and Druid feel high priority to him.

I'm actually going to pass on Comprehend Languages. Since it gives literal meaning (no progress on learning) and doesn't allow me to speak it, it only gets us as far as knowing Ehiz's story, and that's not precisely Mogwai's concern right now. I'll defer to Ehiz to translate. Mogwai agrees with the others about heading to First Landing before anything else. If for no other reason than to drop off the wounded. There was a strong change of finding more of them who might need help, Azeban and others, and he didn't want to put others in danger. After dinner he picks remaining meat off the bones, and sleeps comfortably outside on the ground, feeling closer to his people than he has in a long time. While he's grown accustomed to beds and proper meals, he's surprised to find how easily he slips into his old ways. In the morning, Mogwai munches on some berries, watching from a distance as Ehiz talks to the stranger and Murob talks to her scorpion. As the merchant begins moving again, it solidifies the morning's glory for Mogwai, and he smiles, thanking The Dawnflower again for their luck, and for her watching over them. Mogwai is all smiles by the time he is prepared to set off with the others. "Dawnflower watching. Mogwai is thinking we make good distance this day."

I'm agreed with Murob - even not seeing the spiders still kept those moments pretty tense. In general I lean away from random encounters because of the speed at which PBP combat takes, but they certainly can be useful in fleshing out the world - and as you said, especially in a game like this where we are in the wilds, it feels appropriate to come across different things. Disappointment spreads across Mogwai's face as they all go for their weapons. He blinks, wondering if they'd misunderstood when he said that the Ogres weren't intelligent, and therefore could be easily outsmarted. The longshanks tongue was a complicated one. "Not needing bloodshed." he says quietly, mostly to himself. It crosses Mogwai's mind, not for the first time, how halfshanks and goblins are more alike than either would care to admit. Quick to judge, always thinking themselves superior, and more than willing to hide behind a blade. As Murob puts one of the ogres to sleep, Mogwai looks at her first with surprise, and then with a wide grin. He should have known she could help find a peaceful solution. Reinvigorated and moving quickly, he follows behind Karzok and Sorala, before veering off from them beneath a tree. While the Ogre may pose a problem, his first concern is for the halfling, and Mogwai makes a beeline towards it, keeping to the brush as much as he can, until he comes close to the sleeping ogre, pausing to assess the situation. The others might have argued if he brought it up first, but he didn't think anyone would disagree with her. And it struck him that even if they did, she'd do what she wanted anyway. He puffs out his chest, his right ear twitching slightly.

Feeling the poison coursing through his veins, Mogwai's arms begin to go numb for a second, before he shakes off the poison. "Goblins eat worse things than you." Mogwai opens his mouth to explain their situation to the gillmen as they open fire, not only firing at Murob but also immediately taking out Elizabeth. While he knows that a sword wouldn't have helped her here, he can't help but feel guilty. She wanted to feel protected and now look what happened. And now there were too many still wounded to carry away with the Gillmen after them. Mogwai opens his mouth in a howl and charges forward towards the Gillmen.

He looks sheepishly at the others. "Not am knowing not-goblin word." Moving more quickly, he tries to help some of the disoriented and wounded to their feet, forgetting momentarily how little most of them want to be touched by a goblin.
