Snake Feint
"[...] At 11th level, once per round she can declare her square and one adjacent square as the origin of her attacks until her next turn (allowing her to use one or both squares to determine whether she or allies are flanking an opponent)."

Two questions. First, does the above mean you're actually attacking from those designated squares, and therefore able to attack creatures outside your normal reach? This assumes medium sized character.

Second, what happens if you combine it with movement? For example, with Jabbing Dancer? Do the squares move with you? Do they stay put? Do they stop functioning? Please help.

To clarify, I want to know the difference between technological items and mechanical items for the effects that target them.

The Exchange

Could you point it out for me? I've read the thing back and forth and am still not able to find the passage that denotes them as separate types of items or not. Sorry for the trouble.

I've been reading and preparing to run Iron Gods, but have hit a potential snag. There are several magical items that reference 'mechanical' items, such as the Engineer's Workgloves. My question is whether those would apply to technological items as well, and why or why not?

Part of the confusion come from how the craft (mechanical) skill is used with the technology crafting feats instead of spellcraft. After all, craft (mechanical) can be used for other things even without the feats, such as clocks, resetting trap mechanisms, and things like the moving parts of steam engine trains. It is something used for automated, non-magical processes in devices. The non-magical switching on and off of electrical currents that makes up a computer's programs would fall under that too, wouldn't it? It is because of this I'm half convinced they fall under the same category of items.

However, technological items are often super-science. They're even stated to be able to be effectively re-skinned magic items. Not quite the same, but roughly equivalent to magic. If that's the case, wouldn't they be a different type of item as a mechanical item?

It should be noted that you cannot perform Immediate Actions while flat-footed. Too bad if you have a super amazing Immediate Action counter and you don't have something to prevent being flat-footed like Uncanny Dodge.

If they were actually humanoid, I'd agree with you. However, Trox (Troxes? Troxxi?) are Monstrous Humanoids. They are literally bipedal bug people that were enslaved and messed with by the Druegar for generations.

Have you seen them? They have scythes for lips! How do you even- nevermind. Not really relevant.

Point is, it could really go either way and I'm hoping for something solid to help tip the scales.

That isn't to say that your information isn't relevant or appreciated. It is. I just don't think I can use it across creature types. This is the kind of game where semantics can be important, depending on the group you play with.

This is an important question for me, actually. I'm about to run a Legacy campaign, and I don't know how long Trox tend to live. Since my players will be the decedents of their characters from the campaign that's currently running, it's important for roleplay purposes that I know things like that.

Anyone know anything?

Something else I noticed was that there are no age categories for a Trox. Given that it's a Large humanoid insect, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume they have a different lifespan than humans. It isn't included, however, and I don't know where that leaves me really. Is it assumed that they have a human lifespan, or do I get to make something up?
