Merick has little to offer in the way of diplomacy or healing, but he smiles genuinely and shows off his axe when Furiel points him out. He tries to help with the mundane aspects of the healing. He's used to seeing people in pain, as those are the ones he cares most deeply about. Afterward, he announces, "I regret arriving too late to kill this stag lord myself. I have heard and seen enough of his misdeeds to put him down thrice over. If you need any assurance, I give you my word - as the new warden of this territory, it is my personal duty and honor to keep the land free from pain and suffering like yours. That is an oath on my blood, because my life is committed to protecting the needy." -Posted with Wayfinder
Got it. I was getting kingdom and downtime rules confused. Everything makes much more sense now. As a general rule, Merick won't involve himself in higher kingdom planning beyond what is pertinent to his role as warden. It's a bit over his head. For downtime, his focus will be on his guild/academy/warden program. I'll be hiring someone smarter as soon as it's appropriate to make up for Merick's lack of planning skills. So we have 5 days of downtime right now with a capital spending limit of 4, if I understand correctly and the discussion with the dwarves is regarding kingdom building, not downtime. Right? -Posted with Wayfinder
Ah, all is clear now. Thanks for taking the time to explain. So, I'm hiring Droman no matter what because, in character, Merick needs someone with some administrative skills, but, what's the mechanical benefit for hiring him right now? -Posted with Wayfinder
"Hmmm. This is all a bit over my head. I know I could use the help of that fellow with training as a soldier, but I don't know anything about hiring people. I've always just done my work for myself. I'd at least like to talk it over with my companions." Once the other conversations die down a bit, Merick will relay the information and ask for input." -Posted with Wayfinder
That all sounds good. As you can see in the gameplay thread, Merick (and I) is not sure how much money we have to throw around, nor how valuable hired help would be at this point. Do we have combined funds for that sort of thing? Either easy, I want the soldier/scribe, even if I'm paying for him out of pocket. -Posted with Wayfinder
Well, as the warden(presumably), I think internal affairs are supposed to be my thing. I'm envisioning a place where folks can come and get educated on self defense, train to be in our increase rank in the military or militia, or move up the guild into a special force of justice that patrols our lands to supplement and assist the local police forces. So, part community college, part police academy, part guild, part special forces. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself... I'll put together some specifics later. -Posted with Wayfinder
I definitely like the bag of caltrops. And a fighters guild sounds like a perfect fit. "The Peacekeepers" maybe. Dedicated to the protection and well-being of every citizen in our fine nation. -Posted with Wayfinder
I'm certainly interested in the breastplate. It's equal to my chainmail, but with more bonus, and deathless wouldn't hurt, either. I don't know how you divide everything up, though, so Im not picky. -Posted with Wayfinder
I hope you guys don't mind that I'm not contributing very much to the building discussion. I'm still getting acclimated. Besides, Merick is fine with just doing what the rest of you are doing. -Posted with Wayfinder
"I'm not sure how I feel about these dead guys. Or gals, I suppose. I wouldn't know how to tell." Merick steps toward the corpses and dings one on the head with his axe. Not hard enough to disturb it, but not terribly gently, either. -Posted with Wayfinder
Wow. Just wow. Merick shoves against the wall, but he was a bit too eager to get out of the way. His push did little more than carry him away from the wall. Sheepishly, Merick mumbles and steps back up for another go at it. Taking 10 and then 20 on STR this time around. Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 -Posted with Wayfinder
"Alright, step back. Here we go." Merick slings his axe on his back and braces his shield against the wall. With a grunt, he throws his weight behind his shield and jumps back. STR: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 -Posted with Wayfinder
"Hey, this wall isn't sturdy at all. It's more of a stack of rocks, really. Can I just shove it over?" -Posted with Wayfinder
"Right then. I'm not too keen on taking charge. I don't know enough for that. Just tell me what to do and I'll do it." -Posted with Wayfinder
"You got it. " Merick, a bit more warily, walks onward, keeping his axe and shield ready. "Say, who's in charge here? I never caught that. " -Posted with Wayfinder
Sorry I missed the first bit. Back now. Merick, feeling the power of Ta's spell, chuckles slightly, and brings up his axe and shield, preparing for any attack. He glances over to Green and says Hold steady with me!
Before we enter... I'll take point, if no one minds. I like the front. Now to real time... Merick steps warily forward, not straying too far from his allies. He has an arrow nocked on his longbow, ready to draw at a moment's notice. When Furiel's servant steps ahead to work at the gate, Merick defers. My, my, Furiel, that is impressive.
Attack with Longbow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Merick sizes up the little man with a smile. I've never been bigger than this. But my mom says I might still grow a bit. He snickers and blushes as he realizes that the way he's standing thrusts his crotch out at just about eye-level for the gnome. Not like that, that's gross. I mean I might get taller. Sorry. Merick recovers quickly and tries to salvage the conversation, cursing himself for his perennial foot-in-mouth moments. Anyway, I don't mind fighting alongside friends. I'll probably spend my time keeping bad guys away from little guys like you. You could say it's a calling for me.
Merick looks confused. His eyes dart from person to person, looking for help translating the fancy talk. Err...I won't tell anyone about it if that's what you mean... He looks to his now-fellow kingdom builders, I have pledged my life to protect and serve those in need. If raising up this kingdom will tame these lands and make a safe place for the helpless, than I will pledge myself to it as well.
Hey, folks, I'm the new guy. I'm going to stay away from decision making for a little bit until I get a better handle on how you're operating, and I am the least offendable person ever, so just tell me what's what if I causing trouble. I'm going to sneak a dot in the gameplay thread so I can keep an eye on the game from my campaign tab. Thanks for letting me join. I'm psyched to be part of the team. |
