The phantasmal landscape is almost too much for the poor dwarf to bear; the druid draws his power from the earth, and there is little of that to bolster him now. Maznar hangs on for dear life as the ship travels into what he can only describe as a realm of nightmare. When a bizarre, headless sailor jumps over the rail, the druid the blasts it with green fire, hoping it was indeed a foe.

Misliking the look of all the skiff's defenses, Maznar scurries to the munitions store to see if he can find a weapon more formidable than his usual trident. A small brown bear, one of the many companions that travel in the druid's orbit, mewls in hunger and follows him, hoping for a meal.

The first weapon he comes across is a falcata. Not his favorite choice for naval combat, but he picks it up and hefts it to see if the balance is to his liking.

Strength 11 to acquire Keen Falcata +1, revealing Bear: 1d8 + 1d4 ⇒ (6) + (4) = 10 Ha! So close.

The druid decides that his trident is more likely to keep the harpies at bay. Maznar hates harpies.

Discard Bear to explore Hall of Champions Card #2: Enervating Pistol +3

The next weapon on the shelf is a pistol. He considers grabbing it to give to one of his companions that could actually use the nasty thing - the dwarf hates the smell of gunpowder - but action is afoot and he decides it is better to get moving than to play the errand boy. He gives up and runs up to the deck.

I have too many cards in hand, so discard Pterandon to move to Eye of Serenity, dragging everyone and explore Card #1: Becalmed.

He gets to the deck to see that the sea is as glass, and the ship is unmoving. That will never do! The druid calls on the Green to give them the blessing of a stiff wind, and he blows green-infused breath out onto the waters.

Survival 8 to defeat Becalmed, revealing Albatross: 1d10 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (10) + 6 + (2) = 18 Handily beaten

The sea begins once again to undulate normally.

Note: Even though he didn't draw an animal ally, even with the extra two cards, he has Charm Animal, so as soon as the game starts he will bury that card to draw an animal ally... so Olenjack has the d4 from the outset.



Am I right in thinking that the monster ability 'knockdown' occurs automatically if the monster hits and its damage has the knockdwon effect. And therefore a rock dwarfs ability to get a bonus to saves vs prone doesn't help as there is no save?
