Once again, not a paw is laid on Jack as he terrifies the sea cat and the ghastly bride takes her licks, but shrugs off the cat's claws almost as if they did nothing.
Howdy everybody! I haven't decided what I'm playing yet... I may consider filling out a needed role depending on wants and needs of the group. As for the questions put forth by our awesome GM.
1.)I don't know about a playtest character, haven't even looked them over yet, though Biohacker certain sounds like a fun idea and something that could be fun with a horror type setting. I certainly have no objection if someone else wants to.
The idea I've been percolating in the back of my head is a human character named "Jacob", who's of the old "Abducted and rolled with it" type. He's stoic, but you don't survive on the fringes of space without a healthy dose of fear of things that might kill ya.
2.)Building shared characters can be a lot of fun. I'd be happy to work with someone to build up a history, and I'd be happy to share space ship.
3.)Horror: Pretty much nothing is off limits to me. If anything, I'm usually the guy other people have to tell to back off a little. Anything that would make ME uncomfortable will probably get us kicked off the boards. >.>
Rules question: Boron i think has the right of it, Spells and SLA are detectable on casting, extrodinary abilities are not necessarily, as for detecting saves, I think that falls solidly on "What is the ability trying to accomplish?" RAI territory.
Sadly, I don't have enough replay stars to be able to do this, but I highly highly highly endorse GM Evilminion as one of the best PBP gms I've ever had, and just wanted to say that if your considering it, you should absolutely go for it!
So, I never got my Gencon pathfinder stuff reported. My starfinder game was, but not the pathfinder specials. I have the pages, but it's just me writing it in, so I'm not sure how I can use that? Sorry if I'm being slow to understand. >.<
Assuming you have a zero XP "GM Blob" character and you are GMing higher level scenarios/modules/APs with no 1-2 tier and are not slow-track: You would apply the first three chronicles by reducing the awards, like you would do for a player using a pre-gen, as described in the guide:
Season 9 Guide, Page 7 wrote:
You can apply credit from a higher-tier adventure to a 1st-level Roleplaying Guild character. When doing so, reduce the gp reward to 500 gp if the adventure grants 1 XP or 1,398 gp if it grants 3 XP. You do not benefit from any boons until your Roleplaying Guild character reaches the minimum level listed on the Chronicle sheet, unless otherwise noted.
Any sheets past those first three would be held until the PC hits the level minimum level on the chronicle sheet and you would get no access to anything on the sheet until then.
Season 9 Guide, page 17 wrote:
If the GM with a low-level character runs any higher tier scenarios that don’t include a subtier for her 1st-level rogue, she takes the lowest subtier Chronicle sheet from that scenario and holds it for her PC. Then, once her PC achieves the appropriate level for that Chronicle sheet to be applied, it is immediately applied at that time. For example, if a GM with a 1st-level rogue runs a Tier 5–9 scenario, she would take a Subtier 5–6 Chronicle sheet (the lowest subtier for that tier) for running the scenario and set it aside. Once her rogue reaches 5th level, she can immediately apply the Chronicle sheet to her character. This means that GMs’ characters can potentially level up in bursts.
And the chronicles must be applied in the order that they were earned as they are applied to the PC. (So First three reduced award sheets in order of GMing them/Date, and then as you hit the level that the other held sheets become applicable you would apply them in order of GMing them/date if more than one would become applicable at the same time.)
Edit: If you mix in player credit along the way, that will obviously change things...
Yeah, that's the problem, I mixed player credit in because I misunderstood how it's done. >.< Oh well, like I said, it was just a role-play thing so it's not that bad, just frustrating.
Sorry, my google-fu has failed me mostly due to changes, differing opinions, ect.
So, in my specific case, I'm running a module because I want a certain item for a certain character. The module is high level, but the item is mostly for flavor (Hat of greater disguise) for my character, so I'm not hanging to much on this if I'm wrong.
But basically, my confusion lies in the following scenarios-
A: What happens to GM chronicles past the first 3 that are broken down to 500 gold and applied to the first level? Do these then have to be in correct level order for things to apply at? So if I have 9 3-7 chronicles, these "Float" on the character until they have played 3 games at level 2, then bump auto bump up to level 6? And if I have a floating 7-11 it won't apply until I reach level 7 right?
B: For my specific case, if I'm not allowed to apply the chronicle until the character reaches the appropriate level, does the character still have access to items on that chronicle? Or would it have to have been a "Melted down" to 500 gold chronicle that would have had to apply at first level? (Which would be a bummer, cause I planned this character out with the module in mind and started playing/applying other credits to them cause the opportunity to play arose and I jumped on it.)
Got bodyguard on rom already, need another level or two for bodyguard on rem, but sadly it stipulates Adjacent ally so the ranged aid another doesn't help.
Ooookay guys, so, while building a new character I had a few parameters and a bit of inspiration.
First, I've had some complaints about my characters stealing the spotlight by being "To good" at things, so I decided my new character would mitigate this by being a Aid Another specialist of some sort. It's in PFS, so it has to be PFS legal and no third party.
Second, this feat, Covering Fire. The fact that it let's me aid another at a range, and it's a teamwork feat that still let's me target someone who doesn't have the feat? Very good indeed.
Finally, the Twinned Summoner Archetype which inspired me to play two characters at once, both dedicated to aiding another.
Obviously, this build isn't perfect, and I'm probably missing out on a bunch of stuff, but I'm not looking for perfectly optimized, just being as good as I can be.
Romulus and Remus (Working names, Rom summoner Rem Summon)
Rom
Elf, (For longbow proficiency), 8st, 18 dex, 12 con, 16 int, 10 wis, 12 cha
1. Summoner - Point Blank Shot (Feat Tax)
2. Summoner
3. - Arcane Strike (to be combined with Gloves of ArcaneStriking for additional aid another)
4. Summoner - Covering Fire (Shared with Eidolon through twinned ability)
5. Fighter (Drill sergeant) - Combat Reflexes/Bodyguard (Use arrow as improve weapon when standing near Eidolon
6.Summoner
7. Summoner Combat Expertise (Feat tax)

2. Bonus Feat evolution points Additional traits (Adopted for Halfling helpful and legacy weapon for longbow proficiency)
3. Combat Expertise
4. Combat Reflexes, Covering fire granted
5- No increase
6. Dex score increase
7. Swift Aid
8. Harrying partners granted by class feature
So, the idea is that, at level 8 at least, at the beginning of the day both me and the eidolon will wear a ring of tactical precision (Or just me if that's all I can afford) and give our front line fighter harrying partners, and buy benevolent armor for both of us (Probably only +1 due to expense).
When battle engages...
Swift Aid +1 +1 arcane strike, +1 benevolent from me, the same from Eidolon for +6
Main aid +4 +1 Arcane Strike +1 Benevolent from me and Eidolon for +12 to AC. Granting this to the mainline fighter with harrying partners so that the primary bonus lasts through the turn. In boss or mob battle, use Drill sergeant to give everyone harrying partners for a few rounds to help protect them.
Of course, lots of holes in this, and not sure if it can be done better, any and all help would be appreciated!
I'm running Murder's Mark as a Halloween module because it's easy to flavor the timing of the circus as a annual Halloween event and the whole story has a very big "Freaks" feel to it, meaning it won't be surprising if your players jump to conclusions.
Golemnworks incident is TERRIFYING, both in how deadly the mission can be (I TPK'ed a group twice in the same mission thanks to that one) and the subject matter which is so very Psycho.
Bummer, but look forward to next time! If you don't mind knocking me off your player list, i dotted in so I could get an update when you made a decision.
If you've not played Assault on Absalom, last chance to turn back. Okay? Okay.
So, Spell slinger! Super cool, and I'm super excited to try it out since I've never tried it before! I'm planning on doing a musket wielding blaster/sniper and switch hitting between big blaster effects and musket shots from a distance!
So, going full Spellslinger seems... meh, so right now my build is.
Point Blank Shot
Precise Shot
Intensifying Metamagic
Magical Lineage Snowball (Apply Intensifying metamagic for free as I get higher level to keep it useful)
Reactionary
Then, basically use things like Snowball, Mudball, ect, plus the boost from having both a arcane bond, arcane gun, and mage bullets to make impossible to stop DCs, and if I run out of magic, book it a distance start making long distance pot shots with the gun.
I know that using the spell slinger at all is gonna make this guy pretty lower tier, especially since Eldritch Archer isn't allowed (So disappointed when I realized that, it stacks perfectly) But I do wanna have some fun blowing stuff up! Any good ideas for builds, feats, spells that meet the requirements?
Just my 2cents, but a yak is 24 gold sure, but more importantly uses the same stats as a bison which is 5HD for 125 gold worth of obsidian every adventure. That's gonna be a net negative unless your somehow getting max on dayjob every session, so keep that in mind. Also, frankly, means the 24 gold for a new yak is the least of your worries, footing that 125 gold spell cost every game is gonna be the rough part.
Personally, I'm buying batches of small 1hd animals that I play on tossing in the faces of my enemies and letting them cause havock as a skeletal chicken or dire rat attacks them. Not much worse than shelling out for 2 or 3 alchemist fires and more manageable with a possibility of doing more damage depending on which creature and other things.
Okay, maaaaybe I'm just being thick and misunderstood Tonya's explanation at origins, but I've got a chance to play this one at PBP game day and I'd like to put it on the same character as the one I attached my GM credit to for Origins. So, just quick clarification:
Can I do that? Or do I have to wait for the update for part b/2 whatever we're calling it before I can play the character?
Dang, to slow, your already full. Welp, put my name on reserve and I'll be waiting for someone to start up another game. I got to run 1-00, now I wanna play a game!
blightburn is a highly radioactive crystalline mineral that grows in isolated pockets throughout the Darklands, from Nar-Voth all the way down to Orv. When exposed to air, blightburn crystals give off a deep green glow as bright as a candle. Any creature coming into physical contact with a blightburn crystal takes 2d6 points of fire damage per round, and creatures within 60 feet of blightburn crystals are exposed to blightburn radiation. Blightburn radiation interferes with spells of the teleportation subschool. A character attempting to teleport into or out of an area of blightburn radiation must succeed at a caster level check (DC = the Fortitude save DC for the radiation) to successfully cast the spell.
Also, Blightburner Kineticist Archetype. These are both things that exist. I Really, REALLY want to make a radiation mage kineticist that fires stones of plutonium around.
However, of course, while I can go out of my way to handle the radiation sickness and would do it for the character concept, it goes out to 60 feet. Despite this series of things being legal in pathfinder society, I just can't seem to figure out any way to play it that won't make everyone at the table want to kill me personally unless I GM baby this thing high enough that I can afford to pass out a periapt of health to every team member. Even then, not everyone is gonna wanna give up the slot.
So, will someone either tell me how someone in PFS is suppose to make this work, or do me the favor and tell me that i'm not missing anything and that it's just honestly a terrible idea? Thanks in advance.
It is has. It's very very hard for me to talk about.
** spoiler omitted **
You shouldn't blame yourself. It's called survivor's guilt for a reason... you narrowly dodged a event that could have killed you by a perfectly sane and reasonable happenstance. You have nothing to feel bad about.
No, unfortunately my problem has not been resolved. Good thing I'm not the only one! Appearently there have been several forums on this exact same issue (for that specific game.)
Don't suppose this ever got resolved? I can't make my poor campaign show back up under my campaign tabs. :(
Using up a swift action every turn just to stay flanking/adjacent seems like a lot of extra effort that'll let you miss out on possibly more important actions later. It definitely works, so if that's what you want, then go for it. Also, this'll only work for creatures that are medium or smaller, anything bigger you'll just want to flank and kill ASAP.
Our characters didn't worry about AC (I think my Warpriest had ~21 AC when he retired). The best defense is critting them with a x4 weapon ASAP ;).
Immediate action, not swift, just prevents you from taking a 5 foot step your next turn which is why the opposite member has to 5 foot step.
An immediate action also uses up your ability to use a swift action on your next turn. An immediate action is a "borrowed" swift action from the future. So you're prevented both from taking a 5 foot step and taking a swift action on your next turn.
Did not know that, thank you. Still, worth it from my estimation (If I had a penny from every unused swift action after all...)

Still, it's a cool move, and using the bodyguard ability with kin and helpful gives a +6 to AC, (+7 or more with the armor) which is... frankly a stupid amount of AC to stack on top of the normal stuff.
You may have an issue with a monk needing to be lawful and desna being a chaotic godess you'd have to worship. As it's for pfs just a headsup.
Since I'm not gaining spells and once I've taken the 1 level I can become non-lawful (Ex-monks don't lose abilities, only are forbidden from taking more levels, and I only want the 1) after taking that first level, I should be good.
Actually, fun thing, while it makes it a smiiiidge more complicated, High Guard let's you take a 5 foot step as a immediate action so long as you end up next to your obligation. While I am hoping that improved outflank is thing we can have later on, for now when someone attacks us we can 5 foot step into position to body guard, then on their turn the targeted person 5 foot steps back into flanking position.
So we're flanking like so...
x1x
xex
x2x
They attack me, she uses right hand to 5 foot step as a immediate than defend me with bodyguard...
x1x
2ex

then on my turn I 5 foot step back into flanking.

I find it hilarious in a way cause it means our two characters are literally dancing around the badguy.
As for power attack, she's the one doing all the power attacking cause, and I quote "I wanna hit them hard, I don't wanna have to think about it." so I just wrote out her stats with everything auto-included.
Heya everyone, just looking to have some review and thoughts for some character builds that I've done.
Background: My girlfriend decided she wants to play Pathfinder society with me. YES! We've played D&D5e together, and I've been playing Pathfinder Society for a few years, and we both have tons of RPG experience since childhood. She prefers the Roleplaying aspect, and I like tinkering with mechanics, so she has left it up to me to design the mechanical aspect of our characters, just requiring that they be super sappy required to play together types, and I'm happy to oblige. We fumbled our way through level 1, so I'm doing a final redesign before level 2 starts.
So, I'm going for the classic "Float like a butterfly Sting Like a Bee" FLAB STAB combo, but with more focus on protecting each other, and I'm looking for suggestions for classes or feats once we roll past level 5 (Or if someone spots something obvious that would be more fun).
Mark- Flab portion
Human, STr 10 Dex 20 Con 14 Int 10 Wis 10 Cha 8
Trait- Adopted, Helpful, Kin Guardian (Mark and Cleo are married, thus Kin)
Level 1 - Unchained Monk Sage Counselor (Free combat expertise ignoring int requirements, since I'm taking the High Guardian fighter archtype it's the only way I could figure out to end up with all 3 feats I wanted at 1st level)
Feat - Two weapon Fighting
Feat - Butterfly Sting
Level 2 - High Guardian/Two Weapon Fighter
Level 3 - Weapon Finesse/Defender's reflex (Combat Reflexes)
Level 4 - Defensive Flurry
Level 5 - Royal Protector-Bodyguard In harm's way (Outflank)
Cleo- Stab portion
Human Str 20, Dex 10, Con 14, Int 8, Wisdom 10, Cha 10
Trait- Adopted, Helpful, Kin Guardian (Mark and Cleo are married, thus Kin)
Level 1 - High Guardian/Mutagen Fighter
Feat - Power Attack
Feat - Furious Focus
Level 2 - Weapon Finesse/Defender's reflex (Combat Reflexes using Strength instead of dex)
Level 3 - Iron Will?
Level 4 - Royal Protector-Bodyguard In harm's way (Outflank)
We also have the book boon for pathfinder society for the Redemption Engine "Secrets of the Iridian Fold" which allows us to roll 1d4 to add to any d20 roll and refreshes whenever we start a encounter next to each other.
I also plan on picking up Harrying Partners as soon as we can so that we can use bodyguard and combat reflexes (Including her strength based one) to give each other a total of +6 to AC whenever someone attacks and save AOO opportunities for when I crit to allow outflank to trigger, then I'll do the classic two weapon fighter crit fishing for her wielding the scythe.
So, thoughts? Ideas for where to go from 5+? Better ideas than a totally random archtype dip into monk to achieve my goals?
As long as everyone else is low level also, please consider me as an applicant. I'll apply that GM chronicle, so that at least he's level 2 and gets an AC boost by the time it we get beyond season 1 material.
(By the way, this is Redelia's character. His name might change before we start.)
I'll be doing the same, I've got a floating GM baby credit that I'll use to start him at 1xp for the game if you bring me along.
I thought a Vanara was the current GM boon, so there should be no luck involved - if you GM at a convention, you'll get the boon
My wife and I, and a third friend, are considering making Cursed Oracles.
Huh, I was instructed to roll a die to see "Which one I got" so maybe there where multiple GM boons I could get? Or maybe the guy was just messing with me, I would not be surprised with our origins crew, bunch of pranksters.
Hey everyone! So, I got lucky and got a Vanara boon from Origins! WOOT! I'm super excited to build something, but I'm kinda torn on what to do.
At first, I wanted to build Rafiki and do something different (I usually like being a front line fighter) by building a shaman that would assist and buff the party. But after looking at the Shaman, while it's on flavor I feel the class is really underwhelming for doing the whole buffing thing I'd go for with Rafiki.
The other idea was to go for a Gokuesque or Rwby's Sun character and go unchained monk. (I had originally gotten excited at doing rafiki as a sensei monk until I realized you can't combine unchained with the archtypes.)
SOooo... Help me make this monkey? Any suggestions on class combos and character concepts I could use? I'm just kinda stuck on a fun, effective build for this character. I'm not looking for optimization, just not being a drag on the party.
I would have to boon 2.01 Before the Dawn and 7.27 Beyond Azlant Ridge, but I have both my GM star and my survey boon I could use, so if selected I'd be willing. I also have the good fortune to have recently landed a Vanara Boon and wanted to play a Vanara from the Mwangi expanse, so this will be a perfect start for him! I'm waffling between a monk, a shaman, or a mix there of.
Yeah, as Ragoz said, reducing the fame will be necessary (or at least helpful). Even if you reduce the price, you should still need the full fame required, which I think is 58 as Damanta stated. That means at minimum 29XP or one scenario before 11th level. I suppose you could slow track from that point on and have the item for 8 scenarios. But being able to lower the Fame requirement would be a big help in getting the item sooner.
the boon allows me to treat my fame as 10 higher, which helps, but heya, any others you know of would help.
Ok I'll bite which item (it might be on a chronicle somewhere).
8-99:
Sorry to be so coy about it, but i've never done a special and I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say about it before I run it? Anyways, one of the bit things is the folowing: Any character with this boon can choose to purchase an avenging dagger (120,604 gp; functions as a holy avenger but is a dagger rather than a longsword) as though her effective Fame were 10 higher. If this character has earned two, three, or all four Martyr’s Shard boons, reduce the cost of an avenging dagger to 110,604 gp, 100,604 gp, or 90,604 gp respectively.
The chance to ACTUALLY be able to wield a holy avenger as a paladin is to much of a dream fulfillment not to try to do it.
So, I've scoured the interwebs and drawn more blanks than fires, so I'm seeing if you guys can help me out.
I've got a character concept I want to run, but the biggest problem is that it revolves around buying a 90000 gold item! Youch! Obviously, that's gonna be rough, but I'm stubborn and trying to do everything I can.
So, first thing is I've made the character pretty self-sufficient. She's a legate tempered champion paladin which means A.) I make my own armor, B.) Paladin protection means my saves will be good and C.) I can provide my own healing as necessary. This part is pretty much set in stone.
So now, it's to trying to get to that 90000 item as fast as possible. But I've only found 1 real thing of any help, which is the
Exchange Vanity Master of Trade (Fame 20, 4 PP)
Using faction contacts and mercantile experience, you can always get yourself the best deal when buying goods.
Pnce per game session, you may make any single purchase you could normally make at a 10% discount.
This discount is not available on spellcasting services or material components.
So that gets it discounted down to 81,000. Any other ideas for building up cash or reducing item cost? Day job boosts are nice, but i'm gonna try and GM baby this gal for a bit, so I won't get as many day jobs as I might, and even then at best I'm looking at 150 per scenario if I somehow make my day job check ridiculous so I think that might be a dead end.
It only needs to be 1 use cause I need it for just this one item, and if you know of any chronicles or boons that can help, I can GM it since this character is going to be a GM baby for a little while.
It's a bummer, but stuff happens, hopefully I'll see you in another game.
In the meantime thank you for your patience everyone. I'll see if I can't get access to a computer before I head home on Sunday, if not, first post will be then.
As others have mentioned, Archivesofnethys.com is the best website for checking if a material is PFS legal or not. It even has a search function that you can use to eliminate none PFS material from your searches.
Want: Any race beside ratfollk not currently allowed, or really any other boon on par with this one.
The ability is really cool and fairly awesome, buuuuuut I got into PFS AFTER the shadow lodge was disbanded, so not only do I not have a character with that XP on it, it makes no sense thematically for any character I make either. I'm sure this boon would have a much better life with someone who can actually use it to it's full potential.
Magical Child Vigilante is officially percolating, let me know if I can actually go with it, I've got so many ideas to decide between! I've never played Runelords either so that'd be an absolute blast to get to play it.
Racial archetypes might be OK, as long as they are not too closely tied to race.
As for chronicle sheets, I don't know much about PFS. I'll be using a few houserules, so I wouldn't know if the campaign might be eligible, but if it is I don't see why not.
As FedoraFerret said, so long as the AP is mostly kept intact story and difficulty wise, you can earn PFS credit. A few house rules and weird variations are expected for home groups. The only big rule is that whatever character you use can't be used in PFS games until you finish the whole AP which is frankly no big deal since.
And yeah Seth86, a Magical child is so much fun in concept but you really need an AP or something similar to really make a Vigilante shine since all of the fun is dodging people figuring out it's you in the two forms.
I'm super interested, and I've got a Magical Child Vigilante character I've been sitting on and wanting to play but haven't had the chance. This would be a wonderful excuse on so many levels.
If you do a sanctioned AP, would you be willing to sign off on chronicle sheets? Just curious, still interested if not.
