Matilda follows up Bruce's spell by conjuring a pair of ethereal serpents from her staff, sending them flying at the gravebound. Using Quarterstaff of Entwined Serpents to cast Magic Missile on the gravebound for Force: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6, and then taking a 5ft step East "Potent spell you have there!"

(Sorry for the half-finished post there. Had some irl issues, but some exercise helped that a lot) Grasping her staff, Matilda jumps away from the pit just in time, retaliating against the skeletal amalgam with a spell, chilling the air and drawing forth a pillar of ice from the ground. Stepping back (north) and casting Ice Spears on the Grave Bound, dealing Cold: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 2) = 5 & Piercing: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6, with a DC 19 reflex save for half. If they fail, the spear also makes a Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 7 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 5 = 16.

"It... is rather unsettling. I generally try to perform under stage names, rather than my own... to get even my last name... that's not good." Matilda focuses for a moment, chanting something in an odd tongue as the nearby shadows seem to stretch toward her, weaving together like a wavering web, before beginning to skitter about like a swarm of half-seen spiders. "This magic should find any unseen 'friends' around here, at least. Let me know if you wish for the shadows to seek anything more precise." Casting Searching Shadows, selecting to have them look for other creatures. It's a 10ft radius, but I can move it up to 30ft/round, with a Concentration duration. Personal Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 9

"If you can, I'd welcome it. I have some skill at mending wounds, but it drains my magic, and is not exactly the fastest of medicines." [i]HP Right now: 36/51[i/] Matilda clutches the strange wound, trying to ignore the strange draining pain of the horseman's attack.

I should be able to catch up after some sleep. I've gotten into a frustrating loop of staying up too late trying to catch up on work, getting too tired during the day, and repeating the pattern. I really need to work on fixing that. ^_^;

Matilda will cast Arcane Pocket at the start of the day. Also feel free to use her picture here for the token. I like the idea of making a custom one, but haven't had time. Matilda readied herself for the day to come, cleaning a staff shaped like a pair of serpents and adjusting her hat. ----- "I can certainly try. My magic should work against the average spirit, at least!"

"That's one blessing for us then. Contained undead are better than undead trying to rummage through our packs in the night." Matilda pauses a moment, thinking quietly. "A dim and dark mausoleum should fit my magics, as well. I've learned more than one trick to make the shadows to my bidding. Not that I get to use it much around townsfolk. Tends to unsettle them."

So I tried drawing up a portrait... and apparently I saved it wrong, and the file corrupted itself into a blurry mess. Bleh. I'll try fixing it in the morning. REALLY looking forward to having non-toxic air again. Should finally rain some time today, and then maybe this haze will finally lift.

Matilda glances to the graveyard once more before turning her eyes to the mass of tiles. "I've never played, but something to get my mind off our grim revelations would be welcome." "I do have some spells that could aid in searching... but such magic tends to have a relatively short range. Mine wont do much good until we're actually in the midst of it." (Searching Shadows and Detect Magic are options, but with limited range. Though Searching Shadows can also be used to disarm enemies or steal items.)

Matilda follows behind Lie, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible, and mostly reassure the man that the dhampir means no harm. "Would it be alright to let our horses graze here as well? We've been traveling for days.

Matilda cuts a lock of hair, rather than giving blood, informing the butler that she has no one in particular she would will her wealth to, in the unlikely incident of her death, offering, if pushed, the idea of her wealth being split amongst Malik and Bruce. The latter since she knows him, and the former since he and his pet amuse her. "Though, I do not intend to die. I have ways to escape unless things turn truly dire." ----- As she retires to her room, she takes a moment, warming herself quite literally in the fire to relieve any aches and pains from her meandering through the town earlier. (this serves as healing, though she is at full health. In the future though, she can patch her wounds via exposure to flame) ----- Come the morning, she prepares for the journey ahead, acquiring a canteen of spiced wine before packing her belongings. She spends much of the journey split between admiring the scenery and watching the gloomy sky for rain, cheering up as night falls and doing her best to entertain the others while camped. Never quite revealing how she can carry so much with so few bags, but clearly able to fit an entire (and quite ornate) walking stick within a jacket pocket if the need arises. "Fresh fruit and clean water? It's a welcome surprise and one I'll gladly accept." During the evening, she'll try to think of local folktales to retell.

"Well... if some undead abomination stands in our way, it's likely a threat to us and others. Stealth and discretion might make it easier, but if we need to, it's probably better we don't end up with a necromancer or some ghoul trying to take revenge on us later." She closes her eyes, thinking quietly for a moment. "It's a morbid situation, but better alive than becoming another minion of some madman. That alone seems like decent compensation."

Knowledge (history): 1d20 ⇒ 18 (via Possessed) "Better here to prepare for the worst than hope for the best and be caught off-guard. If we expect to find them controlled and instead find them alive, then that's just a plus and we can adapt our plans at that point."

"Well, you'll make more of an impression this way... but I do see your point. Lucky for you, it's a magic I mastered at a young age. Though I've used it more for cleaning soot off myself than dirt and dust." With a flick of her wrist, Bruce finds his clothes becoming cleaner, as well as acquiring the faint scent of woodsmoke. "A minor side effect, but better than nothing, right?" She began to sip her wine, conjuring a small flame from a fingertip to warm it. "I do wonder just what the prince has in mind, if he's sought out so many people."

Matilda hesitates a moment, smiling as she thinks, before reaching into a seemingly impossibly deep coat pocket and retrieving a trio of large acorns. Her eyes catch the flicker of the fire for a moment, reflecting like a cat's in the dark as the acorns slowly begin to float and orbit around her hand as she moves it. "I lean more toward 'practical', but how's this? It's but a simple trick, but even those have value." (using Prestidigitation and/or Mage Hand to make them float, whichever seems more appropriate)

"Something hot, and preferably spiced. Mulled wine if you have it and it's not on my coin." She leaned back, stretching a moment before warming her hands by the fire. "And I'm Matilda. I entertain and aid those I can and those that can pay. I grant wishes. Within reason. I can't make you wealthy, but wounds, aching muscles, a wolf eating sheep. That I can solve."

"A bit. Malik, right?" she asks, retrieving the notes. "I think I still have a scar from that little bastard. I'd thought it was just some local metaphor until it bit me." She paused a moment, flipping through the journal for her rough map, the pencil markings a bit smeared with mud now. She paused for a moment, glancing up toward the dreary and ever-darkening sky. "I'm surprised to see you here, especially on a night like this. The fog draw you out? I could swear you travel with the weather at times." "As for myself... apparently someone at the castle has heard of my little 'sermons' and has sought me out. I'm just hoping I haven't let my bravado get ahead of me." She crossed out another branch on her tiny map. "Not that I'm having much luck finding it."

Matilda arrived quietly in the semi-familiar streets of Caliphas as the fog began to roll in, taking in the sights of the city in the brief moments before they were shrouded in a sea of grey. She was wearing a somewhat ostentatious outfit, and carrying only a small bag and a decorated walking stick. Between her a tall hat and a red striped jacket, she looked like some variety of performer, moving about the darkening streets with only the faint glint of her eyes as illumination. While she was somewhat familiar with the city, it wasn't long before she became lost. She may have been able to see in utter darkness, but fog was another matter, and she's always been a bit nearsighted. Lost as she might be, her unusual appearance as she strode through the dim streets kept at least minor hoodlums away. Between glimmering eyes, a pair of pointed horns, her red skin, and her eccentric outfit, she'd intentionally cultivated the appearance of some lesser fiend, accentuated by an overly long belt she had cut to resemble a whip-like tail. (in truth, she was the descendant of at least one member of genie-kind, but such distinctions rarely made a difference to most folks, and the air of danger her diabolic persona presented tended to attract more customers to her wish-granting services) Lost in thought, she was caught off guard as she nearly stumbled over Malik. Dropping a worn journal she had been leafing through in the process, currently open to a crude map of the city and scribbled notes. "Ah! Sorry, pardon me. I was distracted. The fog is... disorienting, to put it lightly.

Shoot, sorry for spacing out on stuff. If Admonishing Ray is unlikely to work for what you have planned, I can change it. Was thinking it would be good for taking people alive or knocking over objects. Debating Scorching Ray versus Stone Discus versus Telekinetic Volley. That last one doesn't do as much up front damage, but can deal more over time. |
