Not sure exactly how to feel, but at the end of the day I’m keeping the subs. I don’t want to see these games die, though some people seem markedly keen for it for some reason out there.

Because if we don't push back on poorly thought out decisions with the only leverage we have as customers, they will keep making those decisions. Nobody here wants Paizo to fail, we want them to do better. If withholding funds until we can see a hint of the light is needed, then it must be done.

I can only assume that the exception for Nethys took more time for them to manage than they'd like, and more manpower than they wanted. My guess is that Demiplane, being a site that hosts a number of ttrgps beyond pathfinder and starfinder, has their own legal team who can offset that work vs the very lean operation AoN runs.

Still feels really stupid on Paizo's end to do this. All you did was shrink your already narrow margin, and get a bunch of people to drop what was a dependable passive income via their subscriptions, in a time where money is so tight that every lawyer and posted jpeg is money you can't afford to lose.

That one might be to blame on the US copyright law, if you do not defend your copyright by doing DMCAs etc. you are prone to loose it. It's not a good thing but they really do not have options here.

This is not true. This is a myth about copyright law that will never die. The only time a copyright is considered “abandoned” is when the holder actively states they are giving up the rights. A copyright is not ever considered abandoned if it isn’t actively defended. This myth has been used ad nauseam to defend bad corporate practices.

It is however somewhat true for trademarks, which is where the confusion likely comes from. Not very relevant here though

I think this poor response has really solidified that I need to cancel my subscriptions as well, y'all need to take a long look in the mirror here about all the decisions you've been making in the last year. We understand that you are struggling, but you are going to struggle a whole hell of a lot more if you keep degrading the experience of your customers. Paizo used to be a goto for me as a ttrpg company doing the right things, I have stopped being able to say that.

If Paizo and the other companies were refunded and compensated from Diamond's closure, AoN wouldn't have been cut off.

To run the site? No... AoN is completely independant.

To likely lose book sales due to "having access to everything online for free"? Probably... especially after losing money and having laid off staff...

They aren't shutting the site down though, they are jus losing early access, so those who weren't going to get the book still won't I imagine.

This seems like a poor decision on Paizo's part. You have no idea how many folks I've pulled into this game based on the existance of the archives. Why would you make your best advertising mechanism worse? What are you saving the company here to not send a pdf and some art out to them? I really hope you rethink this. It's honestly baffling that you haven't been paying them for this work they've been doing already, and now this? I worry paizo is going downhill with decisions you've been making recently.

I am still disappointed at the lack of product gated discounts that the old store offered. I hope you can find a solution for this sometime soon so the subscriptions can actually have the value they used to have on the foundry items. Is there no way to have the entire pdf cost voided if it's already owned at the checkout stage while keeping the bundle discount? Why did you guys switch to this store platform when it seems to be so much less featured? As a mostly digital gm who gets the subscriptions, this issue has been a thorn in my side for a while now.

Regrettably, the discount on FVTT modules for owning the PDF is gone, because our new store platform does not support gating product access or discounts behind ownership of a different product. The tradeoff is that the code-only modules, which used to require PDF ownership, are now available to everyone, as per the Foundry team!

I don't want to be a downer, but that's not a tradeoff, it's just a downgrade. Same price as the old pdf+code bundle, but now you don't get the pdfs? Unless I'm misunderstanding how the new version works and it does give you the pdfs.

I sent this question into the support team with another issue I am having, but I suppose I will ask it here too. Has the discount for owning the pdfs of an adventure towards a foundry module gone away? If it has I find that rather disappointing. I run most of my games through foundry and have been for a long while. The fact that I get the pdfs and the discount on the module is really the whole reason I am doing the subscription to get the physical adventure books. Maybe I just missed something with the new site though.

Oh, that might be why my coupon didn't work then. Maybe that message should be sent vs the generic error that I got. Now I have a coupon I don't know how to use and a request to support to refund it if they can.

I wish I knew this was coming out before I jumped on the starfinder subscription. I would much prefer this version to the one that is coming in the mail now
