Hi again, another question: Blindsense say: Quote:
Concerning fights I would say that means: The DD knows where any creature stands (within range) except they have total concealment, right? Blind-Fight says: Quote:
Let us limit the advantage to point 1 for my question. Total concealment could only occur in range/caster combat, can it? So if anyone is only interested in melee combat, the combination of Blindsense and Blind-Fight does not make sense, right or wrong? :-) Thanks again! Kindly regards,
Hello to everyone! As the subject says... here we go: I have a character Fghtr1/Sorc4/DD5. a) I think the CL is still 8, right (because rounded down)? b) Due to Sorc4 + DD5 I think I get the bonus spell Fear (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/sorcerer/bloodlines/bloodline s-from-paizo/draconic-bloodline), right? Although I cannot cast lvl 4 spells? c) How is the DC for breath? It says 10 + Sorc lvls + CHA Bonus. My CHA bonus is 2. So 16 or does the DD lvls too (this would mean 21)? d) Concering spells (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/sorcerer) I have lvl 7, right? Thanks for your answer! Kindly regards,
It's true what you said. The key question is, is that meant only for the beginning? Because (obviously) a small character may change his animal companion at a later time. So why not a medium character may change this in the same way? A druid can change his animal companion too. Not such as comfortable as a beast rider, but he can: Quote: Most animal companions increase in size when their druid reaches 4th or 7th level, depending on the companion. If a druid releases her companion from service, she may gain a new one by performing a ceremony requiring 24 uninterrupted hours of prayer in the environment where the new companion typically lives. This ceremony can also replace an animal companion that has perished. So the key question simply is: Does a Cavalier may take e.g. an elephant or not...
Hm, I cannot find any animal in the list of the Beast Rider (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier/archetypes/paizo---c avalier-archetypes/beast-rider) which can not be find in the general list of Animal Companions (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions). So I cannot see which mounts are exotic und which are common. Which are only selectable for Beast Riders and which for Druids too.
1.)
2.)
And e.g. a Hippo has a lvl 7th Advancement, so you add only: 7th-Level Advancement: Size Large; AC +2 natural armor; Attack bite (2d8); Ability Scores Str +8, Dex –2, Con +4; Special Ability trample. 3.)
4.)
There is only one point I would add now.. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier/archetypes/paizo---ca valier-archetypes/beast-rider say: To generate statistics for such a mount, apply the following modifications: Size Large;
-> But we need not to do this because we simply take the stats of the top right side with headline "Companions, 7th-level-adv.", right?
Okay... and how about scent, low-light vision, trample? And the next question, it is said that "In addition, a 7th-level or higher Medium beast rider can select any creature whose natural size is Large or Huge, provided that creature is normally available as a Medium-sized animal companion at 7th level (like a bear)" But even if the animal is huge-sized you'll get it only with size large, ya?
I will play a Beast Rider or Gendarme. Depends on some questions which are unclear to me (see my other thread concerning mount stats). At the moment I have made a Cavalier with Archetype Beast Rider. So therefore the character should get a teamwork feat, but because it's absolutely senseless (IMHO) and nobody in my roleplaying group will take a teamwork feat, I have dropped it for nothing else... it is only wasted time to think of which teamwork feat I would take. ^^ The advantage of any teamwork feat for me is... zero.
Okay. Maybe you could answer me another question... as I have seen are the tiger (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/cat/tiger) and the lion (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/cat/lion) the only two animal companions which I can choose with lvl 4 (Beast Rider) which I can ride as medium-sized character, because they have large size with lvl 4. Then at lvl 7 I can take a large-sized Masodon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/elephant/mastodo n). I take the stats from lvl 4 on this site and add the stats from lvl 7. Then I get: Speed 40 ft.; AC +7 natural armor; Attack gore (2d6), slam (1d8); Ability Scores Str 22, Dex 12, Con 17, Int 2, Wis 13, Cha 7; Special Abilities low-light vision, scent, trample (2d6). Then I look at the stats of the Animal Companion Base Stats (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions#TOC-D evotion). 1.) The Huge Mastaudon has Perception +24. How much Perception has mine large-sized? 0, if I do not spend extra skill points on it? 2.) Does my Animal Companion has any feats listed in Beastiary or none except these I may learn (3 at lvl 7)? 3.) Because the list said that my Animal Companion has NA +4. Is that right or is AC +7 right? To make it short: Is it the rule, take anything from the Animal Companion Base List and only values that are not listed there, you make take from the linked animals like Special Attacks or is the rule, you geht only the things listed on the Animal Companion Base List and nothing else (so no special attacks, no feats except the few you may choose, no CMB/CMD etc.)? I just want to know how to play. ;)
Okay. I have red the combat rules CRB p. 201/202. So, if my mount do not move more than 5 ft a round, I can use a full-round-action. The key question is, can my mount use a full-round-action too and makes his 3 natural attacks (1 bite, 2 hooves) and do I have to roll the attack die for every hoove separately? And I my mount move more than 5 ft., I can use a standard action and my mount can use his standard action too? And if an opponent moves far away from us my mount and I (we both) can do an AoO?
Hi Starglim, I thank you for your answer! Here my comments: I didn't find, that a Beast Rider gets Endurance _instead of Light Armour Proficiency_ as a bonus feat. I only found, that he gets Endurance addtional. Could you please tell me where to find this information in rules? 1.) I am sorry, but I know that INT 6 is usual for druid/pala animal companion. The reason is, these animal are much more intelligence than common animals and therefore they need more INT. I know that is not a proove, but: http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/pathfinder/pathfinderR PG/rules/paladinsBondedMountRangerAndDruidAnimalCompanion&page=1&so urce=search#0 One further question to the hit dice: If I take as a Beast Rider with lvl 4 a Tiger as my animal companion (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/cat/tiger). This link to the tiger can be foudn in the text at the Beast Rider (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier/archetypes/paizo---c avalier-archetypes/beast-rider). Does it mean, because at lvl 4 the animal companion has 4 HD, it doesn't have hp 45 (6d8+18) hitpoints, but only 4d8+18? 5.) Why does the rider could not take a full-round-action too, if he can makes a single melee attack (standard action) und a move action? I thought SA and move action = full-round-action? Or does a full-round-action have to include the swift action too? 6.) But the other raider can makes a running to 90° in any other direction with double speed? So for example, if we both run south, he can stop running (because I am in front of him) and he can run west with double speed now? Thank you for your answers (at this and other places)!
Hi there! Today I played the first time my new Cavalier lvl 1 with Archtype Beast Rider. At lvl 1 I think the only difference between the common Cavalier and the Beast Rider is that as a Beast Rider you get Endurance as a bonus feat, right? Because - mount works like druid animal companion
stays the same, ya? Now my questions (please forgive me, they are many...): 1.) The Horse has the Stats from http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/druid/animal-companions without the 4th-Level Advancement, but with INT 6 and combat trained, right? Which HD is used (D8 or D10)? 2.) Does the mount has three natural attacks (1x bite, 2x hooves)? 3.) Because the mount is combat-trained, as a Cavalier I need every combat round only a free action to handle it, right? 4.) What is the difference between a free and a swift action? 5.) If I ride the mount and want the make a charge attack, does the charge attack make my Cavalier or his mount? Who gets the -2 AC? 6.) If I follow another rider on his mount. Both mounts has a speed from 50 ft (with a run 100 ft). So if I am adjacient to him and he runs 100 ft away and I will make a charge on him, may I do this every combat round, provided he runs away 100 ft every time? And if I run 120 ft one time (because of Spur Mount) so I can ride in front of the rider that I follow, does this gives me any advantage? And the rules said: "You can use this ability every round, but the mount becomes fatigued after a number of rounds equal to its Constitution score. This ability cannot be used on a fatigued mount." Does it mean, no matter if I use this one time or more times, the mount is fatigued after a number of rounds equal to its Constitution score? 7.) I know, if one attack on my mount was successful, I may make a Ride Check against the attack roll. May I do this only one time per combat round or every time? Does anything happen if my mount fails (disregarding the attacker hits it)? May I do a Ride Check if the attacker attacks me successfully? 8.) If I fight against another rider on his mount and I want to attack the other rider. Are there any differences between a combat without mounts for both? If I attack the other mount (while mounted) do I get the +1 attack bonus for higher ground? 9.) Because my mount is combat-trained, it knows all the standard tricks. Is this the list on http://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/handle-animal from "Attack" to "Work"? Is e.g. Heavy Labor another trick I can learn my animal (because at lvl 1 I may choose one further)? 10.) I know that a druid can talk to his animal directly and therefore a Cavalier have to do it in the same way. But I don't what in which way a druid can do it. Does the druid speaks in his normal language and his companion (e.g. a mount) is understanding him or does the druid then may speak the "mount's language" or does the druid talk to him in a telepathic way? Unfortunately I didn't found anything in detail about this in the rules. 11.) I have heard that if I use my full-round-action my mount cannot attack to, but it is said that it can do some tricks or specials (like trample or overrun). Is it true and where can I find details to this? The bottom line is that I want to use my mount as efficiently as possible and mainly in combat and that's why I ask all of this questions. I know there are many so I numbered it that you can faster answer me. :-) Many thanks in advance! Kindly regards,
Helaman wrote:
That's my opinion too. So I simply have to drop this point from my character sheet. ^^
I am sorry, but I do not understand this. David Thomassen wrote:
So, I must have the Teamwork Feat. And another ally must have the Teamwork Feat. And the advantage from Tactician is, I can grant my Teamwork Feat to other allies too, even if they do not have the Teamwork Feat, but in order that my Teamwork Feat works one of my allies must have this Teamwork Feat too. That sound's completely senseless for me. ^^ I: have the Teamwork Feat.
So Ally A and I get the advantages from the Teamwork Feat all the time, because we two have it (of course, only if our opponent ist flanked from us). And through Tactician Ally B und Ally C get the feat advantages for 3 rounds too and that's of what Tactician stands for? Cannot believe that.
Hi there, Link: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier#TOC-Tactician-Ex- I took with my Cavalier as Teamwork Feat Precise Strike (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/precise-strike-combat-teamwork) but for me it's unclear how to play it correctly. First, as a standard action I can grant this feat to all allies within 30 feet who can see and hear me. Allies retain the use of this bonus feat for 3 rounds plus 1 round for every two levels the cavalier possesses. Allies do not need to meet the prerequisites of these bonus feats. Okay, that's clear. I can use this ability once per day at 1st level. Okay. So, is it meant, that I may use Precise Strike every combat round (if my opponent is flanked) without using a standard action and only if I want to grant this feat to my allies too, I have to use a standard action and my allies may use this feat (at 1st lvl) for 3 rounds too?
I played a Summoner before... and to be honest I have to admit, that the Summoner is OP. At lvl 7 I think my Eidolon has AC 26 or sth like that (with Mage Armor, much NA, without Shield Spell). However, that's another discussion. Anyway, that's why Summoner is a restricted class now. To the Barbarian, I don't want to play one. But lvl 4 Fighter instead of Barbarian would be okay for me. But I like casting.. so I prefer to get more than 5th level spells. :) I made Fighter 1 / Sorc 4 / DD 4 now. With DD 7 and EK 9 at lvl 20 (that I will never reach) I would have a BAB 16 and spell lvl 8 spells or sth like that. But I think lvl 15-16 will be the max. that we will play.
Yes, you get bloodline spell from DD, in my case 8 (Sorc4 + DD4). Blindsense seems to be pretty cool: This makes invisibility and concealment (even magical darkness) irrelevant to the creature. That should makes Blind-Fight senseless, right? Although I will lose one BAB at DD 5, I will take at least one further level DD.
In common I agree with you. One further question at this point: Now I have Fighter 1 / Sorcerer 4 / Dragon Disciple 4. So I get the bloodline advantages if I was level 8. If I take 2 levels EK now (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/core-rulebook/eldritch-kn ight), I would get +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class. Does this +1 level of existing arcane spellcasting class only count for spells per day or for spells known too or does is count as a sorcerer level and therefore for bloodline too?
To be honest, on the one hand I have not understand all what you said and on the other hand I do not care of casting nine times magic missiles per day. ^^ So, it was just interesting for me what is possible, but not more. And I think another reason for no answers is, you often said "take what you want"... that's, mhm, ya, one thing, you should not expect much answers. Just my opinion. :-)
First of all, I don't wanna play a barbarian oder a bard. ;) Cavalier.. äh... we can talk about every class, of course, but that's why I fokus this thread on warri, ranger, DD and at the end EK. That we do not discuss every possible class. ^^ Well, I have to decide between taking a Mithral Chain Shirt (without boni) or Bracers of Armor +1. I'll take the Bracers. If I have more gold oneday I can rethink. :-) The HP is coming from... you said, I am not a Warri, but I will be infight next to a Warri and so I have to push other things to keep with a Warri. If you want I can look for the quote. :) That counts for every further magical boni too. At the moment that point is far away in the future. As I told more than one time I will not lose any action because I cast Mage Armor long before a combat starts (our talk goes to spin round). Thank you for your suggestions. ;) The next point is, you said I need not to wear the armor. Only my character have to. For me Pathfinder is a Roleplaying Game and that means I do not want my character to do things that I would not like to do. ;) To the other point, I just was interesting in our opinion concering enemies that moves near to you. Because you said that very easily... you keep the enemies on reach... it is not as easy as it sounds. ^^ That's all want I want to say. Why should I drop my weapon to use claws and bite attack? The weapon makes much more dmg. ;)
Zonto wrote: If you are going 2 levels into ranger, maybe consider going with the natural weapon style. The Natural Weapon Style is from the APG and therefore unfortunately not allowed. Zonto wrote: You would be getting +5 AC from the shirt Okay, so +4 AC from Mage Armor or +5 AC from the Shirt, right? So the difference is one AC. AFAIK I get the NA and the DEX-Bonus in both cases too. And I can cast Shield in both cases too. Zonto wrote: Sorcerers need all the AC they can get, especially if you want to venture into the frontline of battle with a greatsword/greataxe/whatever. At lvl 9 I have 86 Hitpoints. Zonto wrote: Wanting to not waste a spell you learned for free anyway is not a reasonable enough excuse to go completely unarmored... I think our thinking is different. Zonto wrote: Did your Fighter get woken up in the middle of the night to fight and has no time to don his armor? Mage Armor works here for him, too. That's true. But IMHO is this not worth to get a 10 % Arcane Spell Failure. Mage Armor is from my point of view much more comfortable than wearing a real armor. You do not have any troubles with it. Paxon wrote: I think there's a huge inherent flaw with playing a DD/melee character, namely that you lack the armor to stand up at melee and you have to try to cast through concentration checks all the time. I know there are some other builds they do more dmg, but e.g. I do not want to play a barbarian. hogarth wrote: My experience has been different; I've found it only takes one good buff spell like Mirror Image to make up for the lower AC. I use a reach weapon to keep my distance, so no combat casting needed there. I also have Arcane Strike for extra damage, or focus on missiles if I can't reach a target with melee. I'm also more versatile than most of the people in my party. If I had cure wands/spells, I'd be even more useful (bard wins here). True. The only question I have now is... you use a reach weapon like a Guisarme, okay, and let's say you enlarge your person too. What should your enemies keep off from moving adjacient to you and attack you? Yes, you got one AoO, but only one per enemy.
Many thanks to all of you for this quick and great answers. I was really impressed!!! To sum up all of your replies just let me say a few things:
Greetz,
Hi there! First of all I wanna tell you: I know there are some existing threads and I have read most of them. But partly I have other wishes and partly I cannot realize some things like others do, because I do not have so much gold like (it seems) many others and I get only 20 BP. My goal is to have a nice character with focus on combat, but have some skill points for intimidate, knowledge arcane, perception and spellcraft too. Furthermore I am looking for a good ratio (!) between BAB and Spells per Day. We start with lvl 9 and I think we will play until lvl 15-16. BTW I wanna play a half-orc. :) Because nice race and nice features (e.g. great axe, orc double axe, +2 intimidate) I know there a lots of possibilities, that's why I wanna introduce you some options and I am looking forward to hear your opinion to them (i.e. I have read that a paladin is a good combo for example, but I don't wanna play a paladin :)). :-) Attributes (Character Advancement and Str Boost incl.): Str 20, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 14, Wis 12, Cha 14. And I wanna use Mage Armor (so no other armor). a) Rngr 2, Sorc 3, Drg 4 -> 77 HP, BAB +6, 44 Skill Points, Spells per day like lvl 6 Sorcerer, Saves +5/+9/+5, cheap TWF, so I would take (because I like trip) Rngr 2: Two-Weapon-Fighting
As next bloodline feat I would take Blind-Fight (because I like the darkness spell too). Weapon: Orc Double Axe (2x d8) b) Rngr 4, Sorc 1, Drg Disciple 4 -> BAB +7, 52 Skill Points, Spells per day like lvl 4 Sorcerer, and the rest like above. But I don't really care on a hunter's pet. c) Fgtr 2, Sorc 3, Drg 4 -> 77 HP, BAB +6, 36 Skill Points, Spells per day like lvl 6 Sorcerer, Saves +5/+6/+5, Feats: Fgtr 1: Weapon Focus
As next bloodline feat: Blind-Fight. Weapon: Greataxe (d12) d) Fgtr 4, Sorc 1, Drg 4 -> 81 HP, BAB +7, 36 Skill Points, Spells per day like lvl 3 Sorcerer, Saves +5/+6/+5, Feats: Fgtr 1: Weapon Focus
As next bloodline feat: Blind-Fight. Weapon: Greataxe (d12) e) Fgtr 1, Rng 2, Sorc 2, Drg 4 -> 79 HP, BAB +7, 44 Skill Points, Spells per day like lvl 5 Sorcerer, Saves +7/+9/+5, Feats: Fgtr 1: Weapon Focus
As next bloodline feat: Blind-Fight. Weapon: Greataxe (d12) Finally I wanna say a few things: 1.) It seems to me that more attacks with TWF vs. fewer attacks with Greataxe make similar dmg. I cannot see any big difference. So maybe the key question is: Does Trip with TWF makes sense or is TWF be made for Trip? :-) 2.) If I would pass Trip, which other feats may be possible, that would increase my character's dmg? 3.) The next question is, should I take a further lvl Drg because the saves increase are nice (+1 fort, ref, will) and a further feat with blindsense is not bad, but... the "danger" is to want the +2 CON the lvl above too and Dragon Form (1/day) is very nice too (max dmg boost)! ;-) 4.) At (for me) "highest" lvl (that means up to lvl 16) I think the EK is the best prestige class for me. The only question is, at which lvl should I take the first lvl. If you have further questions, give them to me! PS.: Aside to some prestige classes Only the Core Rulebook is allowed for feats, spells etc.
I have simliar or same questions. Here are the "facts" (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/base-classes/cavalier/archetypes/paizo---c avalier-archetypes/beast-rider) 1.) At 1st level, a beast rider forms a bond with a strong, loyal companion that permits him to ride it as a mount. This mount functions as a druid's animal companion, using the beast rider’s level as his effective druid level. The animal chosen as a mount must be large enough to carry the beast rider (Medium or Large for a Small character; Large or Huge for a Medium character). 2.) At 4th level, a Medium beast rider can also choose an allosaurus, ankylosaurus, arsinoitherium, aurochs, bison, brachiosaurus, elephant, glyptodon, hippopotamus, lion, mastodon, megaloceros, snapping turtle (giant), tiger, triceratops, or tyrannosaurus as his mount. 3.) For example, a mastodon (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/animals/elephant/mastodo n) is huge and the text on the right side said Mastodon Companions Starting Statistics: Size Medium; Speed 40 ft.; AC +4 natural armor; Attack gore (1d8), slam (1d6); Ability Scores Str 14, Dex 14, Con 13, Int 2, Wis 13, Cha 7; Special Abilities low-light vision, scent. 7th-Level Advancement: Size Large; AC +3 natural armor; Attack gore (2d6), slam (1d8); Ability Scores +8 Str, –2 Dex, +4 Con; Special Abilities trample (2d6). Key question: Comes the mount "only" medium-sized (due to Beast Rider is Level 4) and it cannot be ridden? The Poster above said that a dev has metioned anywhere.. I would strongly prefer to get an official statement from Paizo or a specific link to clear this point. ;-) Kindly regards,
Hi there, I am not sure, which horse a lvl 1 medium-sized Cavalier now have at the beginning. Here are the "facts":
- A horse effectively automatically becomes a "warhorse" by virtue of being granted combat training. But I cannot find any mount called "Warhorse". I can find only Pony, Horse and Heavy Horse. How it is? What are the stats? |
