Carouse + SOC: 2d6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (3, 6) + 1 - 1 = 9

Lucky's better than good, but both help.

Marco asks around after his free trader contacts while getting buzzed. They'd have to be brave or suicidal to come to Theev... but some are.

"Not on your own, By" Marco protests. "This's no place to go without someone to watch your back. Lemme grab my stuff" With the quick addition of stunner, gloves and helmet he's ready to go.

"You've been here before then?" he asks, "Anything to expect beyond the worst part of town times ten?"

A couple of your new crew have ship shares which IIRC is a substitute for dtons of credits. I don't really know the current status of the ship though - does it need upgrades urgently?

"Who are we to these pirates then? Mercenaries looking to sign up, fences for their goods, a courier to someone here - do we even know anyone who might be here? Reckon one thing we don't want to be is prey." Marco raps a tabletop firmly for emphasis.

Besides checking that the environmental filters are up to scratch - the library data mentioning ancient war plagues has set his Vespexer reflexes atwitch - Marco spends his time socialising and sparring with the marines.

Melee-0, yeah. Marco will be spending time getting some tips and practical training on what to do when he doesn’t have a beam weapon in his hand. I’ve got a fair chunk of the action hero skill package - but not that part.

"Sounds better than trying to disguise this overpowered yacht as a salvager. I mean, we could do it, but you'd never get her looking the same again." Marco gives the wall a pat. "I like this look. It's growing on me. We could bug whatever workstation you're planning to give him if you're worried about him turning his coat again."

Hearing the library entry play Marco frowns and comes out with "Huh. No sleeping around down there 'less you get a blood test first, I got it. Even if we have to suit up it sounds no worse than anything we Vespexers've seen though. Any reason to think we might have to poke around on the surface? You could hide anything in a 'death zone' but would your pirate be there?"

"I'm good thanks Doc" Marco answers, "your exercise plans worked a treat once my back was fixed.

"What makes Noricum an Amber zone anyways? If I was afraid of risk I wouldn't be here but if there's something we should be prepared for - let's prepare!

The food doesn't entirely sit well with Marco, as his first experience with spices came late - just a few years ago in fact. He burps uneasily. "I might be able to help some too. Free traders don't always have the wherewithal to do full annual overhauls on their own credit, you know? There's a buddy system for trading parts which you can grease along by contributing to in advance. Happens I turned a lot of cash into parts when I got off planet, and should be possible to call some favors back in now if we need repairs done."

6 ship shares, FYI.

Marco nods to Steph, "Never been a pirate, but I've persuaded a pirate to back the hell off with a good shot from a beam laser once and I've dealt with the seamier side of starports. Logistics though, the Squire's your man there, got a mind like no one I've ever met."

He looks at Jerry and spreads his arms "Good enough, or is there a hazing ritual? If not, where do we drop our bags?"

Marco picks up the case and heads out. "Fame? Retiring from this we'll need money for new faces, less you like the idea of bounty hunters dropping in for your birthday. Maybe your eighty-whatever birthday, even. No, I'm in this for money and a job which advances faster than getting lucky on a free trader and realising that reaching captain is still decades off."

Maneuvering adeptly through the brief moment of zero-G in the umbilical he stops abruptly on the Nemesis' deck. "We on the right ship? Thought this was only a yacht on the outside!"

Towing a single humming grav-assisted suitcase containing his worldly belongings Marco checks on Killian. "Need a hand? I can help you move if you brought more than a toothbrush with you. Course, if you've still got a bunch of drones that's not so useful." He shrugs.

"Anyway, how'd you get dropped into this? A good tech and doctor should be able to write his own ticket, and I know you're good."

7A9875 male human (Vespexer)

Marco shakes his head slowly "Siete, Siete, if'n you try to live rent-free in a Vespexer woman's head, we're going to run out of medical slow drug. No police here to stop her, and she's harder than Captain Sal. Least if that's the Ray I think it is."

He turns back to Sal. "We close enough to hail these people yet?"

I'm OK with moving on from this chitchat whenever.

7A9875 male human (Vespexer)

"Easy, Sal" Marco puts in, "we were all young and dumb once. Siete's kept at it longer'n most - way longer! - but it's the same thing. He'll learn, I'll make sure of it."

Marco has lines from stress which make him look older, but he doesn't have any actual years of experience on the time-displaced scout.

"Ray, huh? I knew a couple people with that name back at the wrong end of the gravity well. Hope she doesn't have a grudge on me." He looks worried for a moment.

Killian, you're up.

(Deception may or may not be taken by Siete, I'm not sure)

My suggestion for how to divide the remaining skills up, to speed this along:

Killian: Persuade, Streetwise
Siete: Stealth, Medic
Marco: Deception

Killian, you're up.
Pilot 1, Electronics 1, Stealth 1,
Deception 1, Persuade 1, Streetwise 1, Broker
1
, Medic 1

(Deception may or may not be taken by Siete, I'm not sure)

Just because it doesn't work the way you expected is no reason to dump it entirely - Siete could probably use streetwise 1, persuade 1 or stealth 1 within his concept I think?

I don't see this rule written any where. what page is it located on?

page 16, bottom left.

Quote:

Streetwise 1 would mean you get the Streetwise skill at

level 1. If your Streetwise skill is already 1 or more, then
this is of no benefit to you.

I'll grab broker 1 then.

Edit: ninja'd! OK, pilot 1.

Edit 2: Siete, the skills on these are things like deception 1, not +1 to deception. Deception 1 is useless to you.

I'd suggest the criminal package because it's appropriate for pirates and it includes a bunch of skills we can use anywhere. Or just traveller if you don't want that label.

Traveller: Pilot 1, Deception 1, Electronics 1,
Gunner 1, Gun Combat 1, Persuade 1, Stealth
1, Medic 1

Criminal: Pilot 1, Electronics 1, Stealth 1,
Deception 1, Persuade 1, Streetwise 1, Broker
1, Medic 1

Hello to you all. AVR's character, prior to messing around with the skills package. Skimming the gameplay thread I'm not sure that starship skills would be the most appropriate, but what do I know?
