Female Human Swashbuckler 2 (Inspired Blade)
![]() Actually, I might use this character with a little change up. It was meant for a kingmaker game but wasn't selected because it's a female character. The backstory will of course be the biggest change. I may also switch up some traits. Other than that I think she's ready to go. ![]()
![]() What if I changed to inspired blade swash, with fencing grace, and focused on the weapon focus and weapon specialization tree until I needed the two iron will feats, with 13 strength for power attack. Once at the appropriate level, run with the critical focus chain. It sounds effective in my head, but has anyone run a build like this before? How well do the critical focus feats work at higher levels? ![]()

I can see wave strike being a thing you do, but feinting is kinda bad in general, and you really don't need it (not to mention wave strike is kinda weird, as "draw a weapon for X" is not really a thing by the rules). The background and flavor is in the alias I'm using. I'm pretty much not going to worry about feinting at all. ![]()
![]() You're right, how the **** did I miss that... The reason I am going for the dueling sword is because of the flavor of the campaign. It's the main weapon of Brevoy, it's a huge part of the characters backstory, and it allows dex to damage with slashing grace. This is one of the cases where I'm happier sacrificing more effectiveness for flavor, I'm afraid. The GM is willing to allow slashing grace and weapon focus long sword to be retrained at level three when I pick up exotic weapon proficiency with the dueling sword, so that cures that hiccup. Which critical focus feats work best for a swashbuckler? It looks like that's what I'll be focusing on after the Aldori Sword feats are out of the way. That and Iron Will, unless anyone has any better ideas. ![]()
![]() This trait:
Heirloom Weapon:
You carry a non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that has been passed down from generation to generation in your family. Benefit: When you select this trait, choose one of the following benefits: proficiency with that specific weapon
The name has nothing to do with it. It's the mechanics I'm after. ![]()
![]() I have the trait for proficiency. Having to use masterwork transformation to maintain it and having a magical weapon for appropriate levels is a bit of a hassle, but worth not having to burn the feat slot in my opinion. Especially considering the way kingmaker works, it should be a lot easier than normal. ![]()
![]() So, this alias is the character, and I was setting up for feinting in combat and the usual swashbuckler shenanigans. My concern is, do you guys think that I'm waiting too late to take the feint tree, or are they even effective as that level anymore? Any ideas for improvement, or ways to make this character fit the theme I have going with her backstory are most appreciated. Thanks! Level up proposal: 1:Weapon Focus-ADS, Slashing Grace, Swashbuckler's Finesse

Speaking of, has our prospective GM set a deadline for recruitment? If she has I must have missed it. ![]()

This is exactly what Maralynn would do. Awesome idea! ![]()
![]() Maralynn wouldn't be focused on creating her own avenue of income for the nation, it's too much responsibility and against her character. What she would put her effort into, however, being the fist of martial law. If she has a position of minor power like that, and has the wealth and respect/fear she craves, then she would excel at "keeping the peace". Something like vader's fist from star wars perhaps. ![]()

She "respects" those with actual power (read, she would rather surround herself with them because she knows it's the easiest way to an easy life), so getting along with party won't be a problem. She treats those that she deems "lesser than" herself as such. As for me playing a female, I have one character I've played on Paizo as a female: here, My character was Apex Stormshard, but she was radically different from Maralynn. That character was a sylph wizard who was betrothed to a man against her will, and when he tried to have his way with her before the wedding, she panicked and accidentally killed him, and was on the run when she ended up in sandpoint needing money at the beginning of the Jade Regent AP. She was very shy, contrite, and afraid of her own power, and the person she fell in love with during the AP was killed right in front of her as he saved her life. So basically, absolutely nothing like this character at all. Now, I have played many, many female characters over the years, starting with 2e way back in the day, so I have quite a bit of experience doing so. If you would like some more examples of my roleplaying so you can see how each character has their own personality, I have these on Paizo: My character is Alzaar Na' Keth, the Archaeologist Bard My character is Amren Slyblade, a Halfling Knife Master My Character is Alabaster Cain, a Human Warpriest of Besmara. Also, if you would like me to send you a piece of roleplay with me using this character or something of the like so you can get a better feel for how I'm going to play her, just let me know and I can cook something up for you. My idea for her is to kind of be the "enforcer" for the king. She doesn't want the responsibility of ruling herself, but being the right hand man has just enough power and glory to keep her appetite sated. |
