Female Human Swashbuckler 2 (Inspired Blade)

I haven't leveled up to 2 yet, but I'll get a post in sometime tonight.

Looking forward to this.

Female Human Swashbuckler 2 (Inspired Blade)

Actually, I might use this character with a little change up. It was meant for a kingmaker game but wasn't selected because it's a female character. The backstory will of course be the biggest change. I may also switch up some traits. Other than that I think she's ready to go.

I wouldn't mind throwing Maralynn back into the mix. I was really hoping to get into this game.

What if I changed to inspired blade swash, with fencing grace, and focused on the weapon focus and weapon specialization tree until I needed the two iron will feats, with 13 strength for power attack. Once at the appropriate level, run with the critical focus chain.

It sounds effective in my head, but has anyone run a build like this before? How well do the critical focus feats work at higher levels?

EDIT:Nope, it's a piercing weapon. That's what I get for posting from work.

Well... what type of flavor do you consider? What theme/backstory do you have? I can see wave strike being a thing you do, but feinting is kinda bad in general, and you really don't need it (not to mention wave strike is kinda weird, as "draw a weapon for X" is not really a thing by the rules).

The background and flavor is in the alias I'm using. I'm pretty much not going to worry about feinting at all.

Ok. I'm considering the daring champion archetype now. To maintain the type of flavor I'm going for with this character, what do you guys suggest?

You're right, how the **** did I miss that...

The reason I am going for the dueling sword is because of the flavor of the campaign. It's the main weapon of Brevoy, it's a huge part of the characters backstory, and it allows dex to damage with slashing grace.

This is one of the cases where I'm happier sacrificing more effectiveness for flavor, I'm afraid. The GM is willing to allow slashing grace and weapon focus long sword to be retrained at level three when I pick up exotic weapon proficiency with the dueling sword, so that cures that hiccup.

Which critical focus feats work best for a swashbuckler? It looks like that's what I'll be focusing on after the Aldori Sword feats are out of the way. That and Iron Will, unless anyone has any better ideas.

This trait:

Heirloom Weapon:

You carry a non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that has been passed down from generation to generation in your family.

Benefit: When you select this trait, choose one of the following benefits:

proficiency with that specific weapon
a +1 trait bonus on attacks of opportunity with that specific weapon
a +2 trait bonus on one kind of combat maneuver when using that specific weapon.
Note: You pay the standard gp cost for the weapon.

The name has nothing to do with it. It's the mechanics I'm after.

I have, but I want the swash class for this character

Shameless bump.

I have the trait for proficiency.

Having to use masterwork transformation to maintain it and having a magical weapon for appropriate levels is a bit of a hassle, but worth not having to burn the feat slot in my opinion. Especially considering the way kingmaker works, it should be a lot easier than normal.

So, this alias is the character, and I was setting up for feinting in combat and the usual swashbuckler shenanigans. My concern is, do you guys think that I'm waiting too late to take the feint tree, or are they even effective as that level anymore?

Any ideas for improvement, or ways to make this character fit the theme I have going with her backstory are most appreciated.

Thanks!

Level up proposal:

1:Weapon Focus-ADS, Slashing Grace, Swashbuckler's Finesse
2:--
3:Quick Draw
4:Dueling Mastery
5:Combat Expertise
6:--
7:Improved Feint
8:Wave Strike
9:Weapon Specialization
10:--
11:Greater Weapon Focus
12:Greater Weapon Specialization
13:?

And the air thickens with anticipation....

Good luck all!

Imagine being from the beginning seeing all the great submissions. Each one makes me a little more nervous! I really, really hope I get into this game. It sounds awesome, especially since I've never done kingmaker. I can't wait!

This is a lot of applicants. I'm impressed.

Oh yeah. I am so looking forward to having people to craft me whatever the hell I want.

Tables are nice.
*nods sagely*

I say subjugate them. Use them as a weapon if need be. The more different threats we have, the better.

I did Homebrew a long time ago in which a cult of Hermaeus Mora was the big bad. It actually turned out pretty good.

Yep. She sure did. I just failed the crap out of my perception check. Stupid loaded dice *grumbles*

In the case of woodsy/rogue types, I do think it's odd that there have been no Slayers...
I've actually changed my inquisitor to a slayer after much deliberating. Hopefully will have it finished in time!

Speaking of, has our prospective GM set a deadline for recruitment? If she has I must have missed it.

I personally expected a lot of stalkers and hunters.

A grand cast indeed. A lot of good players and great characters in there. I can't to see who makes it.

:)

Well in an effort of diversification of revenue here are some of my offerings.

1)Gathering of the banditry into an organized military force and offering them as mercenary forces, unless we decide to just out right conquer everything.

2)Open up a black market, with Sejanus's concoctions as the center piece. Opens us up to stolen goods, criminal hideout and assassination requests. Previous gathered banditry mercenary are used as enforcers and are available for loan out. Dark Adventuring company opened up, "Anything Handled for the Right Price"

3)Logging & Furrier Company - I assume there is a forest there and it gets real cold in Port Ice. They'll love some exotic owlbear furs.

4)Big Fey Hunting - The hunting of fey for sport, experimentation, and enslavement. I bet fey would have interesting magical effects on potions and items.

5)Rival Sword School - Stick it to those braggart Swordlords.

6)Merchant's of Death - Along with the drugs; develop alchemical weapons and tools, Large Armory, training

This is exactly what Maralynn would do. Awesome idea!

Maralynn wouldn't be focused on creating her own avenue of income for the nation, it's too much responsibility and against her character.

What she would put her effort into, however, being the fist of martial law. If she has a position of minor power like that, and has the wealth and respect/fear she craves, then she would excel at "keeping the peace".

Something like vader's fist from star wars perhaps.

I like this. I like this a lot. Maralynn would be more than happy to be involved in a drug pushing scheme that makes tons of money. It's right up her ally.

Control over other people, tons of money, people having to rely on her and her partners for what they need...

You sir, are a genius.

Man, I hope I get into this game. It sounds like a ton of fun (I've never applied to a kingmaker game before) and I really like this character. Also, the other submissions have been pretty wicked as well.

All the makings of a great game!

Were you satisfied with my female roleplay example, or should I do like Tanner Nielsen did and post an example?

Also, if it's ok with you, I'm thinking of adding the Power Hungry drawback to her. It makes sense, considering it's what she doing all of this for anyway.

Steven_Evil - No deity is fine. Selfish and self absorbed is ok too, though you will still have to get along with at least most of the party. Also, link an example of you playing a female.

Dragonofashandflame - Sheet looks ok. I'll keep the deity change in mind in case it becomes a tie-breaker later on.

She "respects" those with actual power (read, she would rather surround herself with them because she knows it's the easiest way to an easy life), so getting along with party won't be a problem. She treats those that she deems "lesser than" herself as such.

As for me playing a female, I have one character I've played on Paizo as a female:

here,

My character was Apex Stormshard, but she was radically different from Maralynn. That character was a sylph wizard who was betrothed to a man against her will, and when he tried to have his way with her before the wedding, she panicked and accidentally killed him, and was on the run when she ended up in sandpoint needing money at the beginning of the Jade Regent AP. She was very shy, contrite, and afraid of her own power, and the person she fell in love with during the AP was killed right in front of her as he saved her life.

So basically, absolutely nothing like this character at all.

Now, I have played many, many female characters over the years, starting with 2e way back in the day, so I have quite a bit of experience doing so. If you would like some more examples of my roleplaying so you can see how each character has their own personality, I have these on Paizo:

My character is Alzaar Na' Keth, the Archaeologist Bard

My character is Amren Slyblade, a Halfling Knife Master

My Character is Alabaster Cain, a Human Warpriest of Besmara.

Also, if you would like me to send you a piece of roleplay with me using this character or something of the like so you can get a better feel for how I'm going to play her, just let me know and I can cook something up for you.

My idea for her is to kind of be the "enforcer" for the king. She doesn't want the responsibility of ruling herself, but being the right hand man has just enough power and glory to keep her appetite sated.

Oh right, as far as religion/deities go, Maralynn doesn't worship anyone in particular. She's too selfish and self absorbed in her own ego.

Maralynn's backstory is done. I'll probably add a little more detail when I get a chance to open my Inner Sea World Guide, like the city names and such, but here it is.

Constructive criticism is welcome. :)

You're right, I was thinking for some reason the composite was only 175. And I was still 5gp over. Guess that's what I get for trying to do all of this on my phone. It should be fixed now though.

Thanks for catching it. :)

This is the crunch for Steven Evil's character. The backstory is taking a while to type up because I have a pretty big story for this character. Let me know if there is anything wrong or anything I need to change.
