Malcom simply follows the others and lets out a short sign of relief when coming to a marked intersection. Still holding his cane like a club, Malcom will say, "Well, I am glad we have found the way, and now that we have, let us move on before whatever was animating those skeletons decides to come after us.That and I really must get out of this sewer, the smell is unbearable. Again, sorry for the lack of posting, things are becoming stable once more, so should be regular posting from now on.

I figured that with the narrowness of the hall and the fact that I have to move through squares with people in it that I wouldn't have enough movement to make it to the undead. If that isn't the case, then I will attempt an attack. Once the Invisible castle server is up and running again :p or you can roll for me to speed things along.

Having been caught up in the rush, all that the group had heard from the young noble was how disgusting the smell was and how he would have to go to his tailor about replacing his clothes that now smelled like sewage. So caught up was the noble in his wardrobe that he didn't really notice the danger until Janiven's scream and run to take cover behind him. Looking around in surprise, Malcom does his best to move forward a bit to check out what all the commotion was about while he shifts his grip on his cane to get more leverage for swinging.

"Everyone remain calm!" Malcom says in an intense whisper as he takes a quick peek out the door, "We will not last in a fight against ten well trained Hellknights so if flight is not an option, then the ruse is our best bet. Jan, is there another way out of this place, if there is no way out, then might I suggest we make a party of it. Though this be a run down place, ideal for secretive meetings it is also ideal for having a quiet dinner party among a group of friends."

Listening to the words of all those gathered in this room, Malcom will wait until all have said their piece, then, finishing a bit of chicken, Malcom will rise and say in a calm, even tone, "Like out host, I too have lived in this fair city for many, many years. And while I have never seen these shadow beasts or felt the oppression by the government that many of you seem to have endured, I have seen horrors that would destroy other men. I have seen friends give up their souls and relatives lose their sanity in the deals that they have made with beings foul and cruel. If it were not for a simple traveling monk, I too may have been one of the ones to lose themselves in the decadence and depravity that runs through this city's government. And while I am loath to fight against the laws that run this city, a city of affluence that is backed by corruption such as this, is not long for this world. If I do not step up and do something, all that I have held dear, all those who have been lost to the powers that truly run our city would have been for nothing." Then, turning to Janiven, the young noble coninues, "I will fight with you, not against the law or the structure of government, but against the oppression and shadows that have taken ahold of the city." With that, Malcom sits back down, still calm and collected, but the intensity of the man's words showed the desire that the man kept in check.

Without a trace of fear, Malcom smiles at Ankara's comment and thanks Janiven for her graciousness. After gathering up a plate of food, he will politely turn down the offer of ale as he sits and begins to eat. Removing his fine white gloves, any who looks can see that the young nobles hands are much rougher and calloused than one would expect a noble's hands to be and that Malcom's oaken cane with the silver handle is never far from his grasp. To the others, the young noble says, "I do apologize for my slight ruse. Being a native of Westcrown, I've come to learn that things aren't as they always seem and have come to adopt that philosophy as my own. By the way, that reminds me... turning to Janiven, Malcom continues, "Please apologize on my behalf to your messenger, I feel that I may have come off as a little overly pompous, but as I have said, one can never truly know who one is dealing with in this city."

Approaching the tavern, Malcom unknowingly picks up his pace as the sun begins to cross the horizon. Arriving at the tavern door, he opens it and slips inside only to come face to faces with a room full of strangers. Before you stands a rather fair skinned man dressed in black and light blue clothing that is well taken care of but not elegant. He walks with the confidence of a nobleman, but with a subtleness that gives off agility. Looking around with a hint of surprise, the young noble quickly recovers as he smooths his hair back and grips the head of his heavy cane in a tight, white gloved grip. Then he proceeds to say, "Pardon the interuption, I just came in for a drink and a bit of refuge from the encroaching darkness. I didn't realize there was a private party happening here." Sorry for the delay, posting should be pack to normal now

Malcom simply continues down the street, whistling a little tune as he heads to grab a small bit to eat. After buying a small bite, he will take his time until it gets closer to the meet time, then judging by how for the Tavern for the meet is, Malcom will give himself just enough time to arrive at the tavern just as late afternoon gives way for night for he was wise enough to know that not many venture around at night unless they were looking for the shadow creatures.

As Malcom continues towards an inn, he listens to what the woman has to say. When she has said her piece, the noble replies with, "Yes, I have indeed heard of the changes that have happened to this fair city. But every city goes through changes and though you have yet to convince me what your organization can offer for the betterment of our fine city, I will be willing to meet and learn more. However, just so we are clear, my acceptance of your invitation is not a sign that I wish to join, only that I am willing to hear your group out." He doesn't pause as he speaks, forcing the young woman to hurry to keep up with him. The tap, tap of his cane ever present as he nears his destination.

"Good day to you Mathalen. Now you see, that wasn't so hard, now was it? I am Malcom. Why don't we walk for a bit and possibly catch an early lunch. I am rather famished, and from the look of things, you could use something in your belly as well. While we eat, you can tell me all about what was so urgent that you felt the need to interrupt me during my walk. Malcom doesn't even wait for the girl's response as he heads off in the direction of a nearby inn to grab a meal. His cane letting off a small tapping sound each time it hit the ground, lending a rhythm to the cadence of the dexterous noble's walk.

DM: Spoiler: Having spent the morning on a leisurely stroll, he looks to the woman with a bit of suspicion as he looks her over, the pickpockets have ways of getting people to lower their guard, and many a people are tempted by the gold that some offices offer for turning in 'traitors'. Gripping the head of his stylized cane, which he had used to defend himself on a number of occasions, he simply gazes at the thin chelish woman and says, "And would you be interested in giving me my space please. I do not take kindly to people who feel the need to press themselves upon a stranger. How about we get past this whole stranger business so that we may focus on what you have to say. You are....?"
Though he was indeed tempted by the woman's words of improving the city, he had been in Westcrown long enough to know that one never gives information with out at least receiving information in return. A useful lesson to have learned when dealing with devilish pacts. So, he simply stood there after finishing speaking and waited for the woman's response.

so it looks like we'll be having people from all walks of life here. Malcom is a member of one of the numerous noble families in the city but is attempting to walk a path of enlightenment that allows him to follow a spirituality that does not include the devilish pacts and corrupt officials that litter the city. However, he has lived among those things for most of his life, so while he does his best to not follow them, he still understands them. |
