As soon as Magnus hears the gate being shut, he rides out and attacks the nearest bandit.

I can only assume that there is no charging, the space is too small and I would need to traverse the stable door anyway.

Magnus use his lance to prod the nearest bandit (10' reach)

While Mjolnir lashes out with a hoof

As the hour draws close, Magnus moves over to the stable. He checks that the door is sufficiently ajar to ride out without difficulty, and that he can't be seen from the gateway, then mounts Mjolnir, grabbing his lance and holding his shield ready. He unconsciously soothes Mjolnir to keep him quiet.

Magnus rises and stretches, then goes to find a quiet corner for prayer, arriving late for breakfast. After a hearty breakfast, he goes out to the stables, to give hi his feed then put the saddle and barding on Mjolnir. He keeps up a continual stream of reassurance for the highly strung warhorse. he double checks all the straps, ensuring his trusty Longsword is at his side, and hangs the shield straps over the pommel for when he mounts. He leans the lance against a stable post, close enough to grab once mounted. Then he rejoins the others. hearing Kazz's comment to Oleg, he nods,
"Aye. This is not your fight master Oleg. You are too important to this community to risk. Truth be told, I don't like putting you at risk at all, but I can see no other way. I just pray that Erastil will bless us all."

Magnus pitches in, helping to push the wagon in and load it to kearan's satisfaction, loudly laughing at his own clumsiness. When all is in place, he adds,

"Ha! That'll show them! Good job, everyone!"

before heading to the stables again where he feeds Mjolnir some pilfered treats, making sure he still has enough Feed and Bedding, giving him a final groom and murmering to him,

"Big day tomorrow, lad. Don't let me down. We gotta make sure we get these villains that are terrorising the good people here. This is good land, boy. How many trappers have they driven off? and Oleg and his wife don't deserve this. They are good people, Erastil bless them. Erastil has brought us here for this, I am sure. This is a quest worthy of his name. Let us make sure we live up to the task he has set before us."

Finally, after grooming and currying Mjolnir, and ensuring he is ready for bed, Magnus makes his way to his own bed, where he falls into a deep sleep, snoring loudly.

"Sunset, eh! No, problem! <Munch, Munch> After I've finished here, I'll go saddle Mjolnir. <Gnaw> Then I can ride out of the stable when they arrive <Slurp> and surprise them. <Yum Yum>. What we need is a signal. <Burp> I have a horn that someone can use. <Munch> Unless someone's got something else?"

Magnus eats heartily and noisily. In between mouthfuls he speaks, punctuating the air with a chicken leg for emphasis.

"I'm with Kazz! They are already foresworn on all that is good <munch> and right by taking up as bandits, and we have a duty to rid this land of banditry, the punishment for which is death.<slurp> Sad as it may be, it is impractical to take then as workers, <gobble> they may try to overpower this place when our backs are turned, <munch> and I would not see these good people put in jeopardy by our carelessness. <Num,Num> Nor do we have the resources to ship them back to Restov, where they will be executed. No, our course is clear; <munch, munch> we have the charters declaration that as agents of Restov we are to mete out justice and the punishment for banditry is death. It is also Erastil's way. Can I have some more cheese. Ooh, I do like cheese. Sirsi is also correct, <Slurp> we should try to pull them out of their camp and ambush them. But first <gobble> we must meet them on the field of combat tomorrow. <num, num> You need not fear them running away; Mjolnir and I can chase them down.<munch> So, it's decided then, we will meet these miscreants tomorrow!"

Magnus good-naturedly banters with Sirsi alonmg the way, though some of her cleverness clearly passes him by. In between conversation, he takes in the scenery, remarking in a loud voice,

"Ah! It's good to out in the country again!"

When they arrive, Magnus begins stretching and rolling his shoulders, working out the aches of the journey before stepping off the Cart. hearing the conversation, he immediately exclaims,

"What's this? A damsel in distress! Good lady, only tell us what ails you, and we shall do all we can to aid you!"

"Hah! Anything I can hit with my Lance is dead meat! The trouble is in hitting it". Magnus turns to Sirsi
"A Jack of all trades! Very handy!. Always useful to have someone who can be quiet!". in a loud whisper, he adds, "I can't."

"Well, Kearan, Kazz; this is turning into a fine quest, is it not? I'm a paladin of Erastil, by the way. I'm guessing you, Kearan, are a warrior of some description. Ha! I'd wager you'd be a tough opponent in a wrestling match! and judging by the strange creature lurking about your feet, you, Kazz, must be some kind of Mage, yes? What about the rest of you?"

Leading his horse through the throng, Magnus Booms,

"Make way! Coming through!"

Striding through the crowd, his warhorse in tow, is a very broad man with shocking red hair and furs betraying his ulfen heritage.

"Phew! Thought I'd miss the caravan for a moment there. Got lost in prayer. Hello! Hello! We all accepting the charter from Lord Rostov? Nice to meet you all"

before you know it, he's swept you all up in a massive bear hug.

"Ha! I'm Magnus Leifson, son of Leif Erickson! This here is Mjolnir, the finest Horse in the kingdom," he strokes the horse automatically, soothing the beast that is obviously fretting at proximity of the crowds."I can see we're all going to get on just fine! Are we ready to go yet?!

Well, I'm committed to Lawful Good, but I prefer to lead by example.

Well, I view it that Chaotic incorporates Freedom, including the freedom to be any race, whereas Lawful tends to be too centred on a humanocentric theme to be inherently welcoming to other races.

Think of it this way: 1950's Britain was a lawful society that, while it did not discriminate on the basis of race in Law, it did in society (largely through ignorance). This is typical of a lawful society, where acceptance comes slowly. An analysis of American society at the time would probably give you a similar result.

Chaotic society, on the other hand, is used to change and changes quickly. They will freely accept new and different, including new and different races.

My bad. Neutral Good would seem to be a better choice. IIRC that gives +2 Loyalty, +2 Stability and +2 Economy. Nicely rounded.

Magnus would probably be suited to General or possibly ruler, though I think we should just wait and see what happens.

As the majority of us are Lawful and the majority Good, I presume we will have a Lawful Good Kingdom? Any objections?

Does anyone else keep thinking about cheese?

I'm in. This is a character made for a previous Kingmaker campaign that fizzled shortly after it started. In terms of crunch, he is as Lancer Paladin. In terms of Fluff, he is a loud, Bombastic individual (He is modeled on Brian Blessed for those that know him). Fun to play, and very simple.

He is not a MIn/Max character, but rather a balanced one. I will be adjusting him for this campaign (he was built on 20 points, not 25 as this seems to be).

Magnus asks Oleg for some equipment (Tent, 10 flasks of oil, 10 days trail rations and 10 days feed for Mjolnir, total 16.5gp deducted), and also orders a wand from Oleg (Will he require a deposit?). He tahes the potion to Jhod it came from the bandit leader we killed.

Also we have an unidentified potion. How much will it cost to get it identified?

OK, two in favour. Motion carried. Do we place orders now and get them later, or can we assume that Oleg has a wand he can sell us, as well as any other equipment we want to buy?

I have added 400gp to group booty, we have over 750gp plus various odds and ends worth 631 gp if sold half price.That's enough for a wand of Cure light Wounds and 200 gp each. Do we want to buy a wand, then take 200 gp each for personal use?

Magnus backs Mjolnir up slowly, ensuring there is no surprise attack by the kobolds. When they are safely out of the clearing, he follows after Mim and Pip.

Magnus lowers his lance and prepares for combat, but holds back on a charge for the moment.
"Well, if it's a fight they want, I'm ready. But if they are just after food, we can come to some kind of arrangement."

Call me suspicious, but he seems rather eager to show us his valuables, considering we might be bandits for all he knows. That and the fact that he lives on his own in the middle of nowhere.
Also notice the reference to a southerly location again? moon radishes to the South, Fangberries to the Southwest, and an old temple to Erastil somewhere to the South. Perhaps the Gods are dropping subtle hints?

"Well, old man, you would do well to take them down to Oleg's and sell them there. Oleg would pay good coin for them, I'm sure."

"Ha! that was some fight, eh! blasted thing wouldn't stand still! At least we know what killed all these creatures. I wonder if there are any more of these spiders? Perhaps we should look around. let's also check the bodies for any personal effects, so that we can pass them on to the rightful owners!"

Magnus will light a torch and then attempt to drop the torch into the lair to try and smoke it out.

Magnus unconsciously pats Mjolnir as he whinnies and mutters soothing words while scanning the area.

Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4

"What kills Bears and Humans?" he asks. "Bears are pretty tough customers, anything that can kill them on a regular basis is not to be dismissed lightly." he tightens his grip on his lance and shifts uneasily.

Hearing the nature of Worryn's enquiries, Magnus pipes up,
"Didn't Oleg lose furs to the bandits? If these Furs aren't his, he might like them anyway as compensation.".

When he hears about the Mites, he adds,
"Mites! Little vermin! Surprised you let them hang about. My father had to deal with an infestation once. He said they are always stealing stuff and quite dangerous to the unprepared."

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Magnus pauses as the Dwarf calls out, but as he cannot hear anything and Mim then continues, he trudges on.

That's 550gp worth of stuff, which we can sell for 275gp, plus 90 gp and 321 sp. Together with what we have already got, we have enough to get a wand of cure light wounds.

"A good days work, eh! Let's haul this back to Oleg's and decide what we are going to do next."

"Hah! That's better! Thank you Mim. Truly, though it was not much more than a llght wound. Didn't keep my elbow down! My Jousting master would be chewing me out for that! and he's right. Next time keep my elbow down, eh!"

"So, let's be off to this camp, then. I am eager to see what we can see."

Magnus turns to the last bandit; "You there! Listen to this, I'm in a good mood so I'll give you one chance to surrender. you can't outrun a bear in the woods and you can't outrun me; either way your best chance is to lay yourself upon our mercy. I guarantee you will see a fair trial and be allowed to state your case. Now what's it to be? surrender or death?"

Magnus watches them run off, Mjolnir's sides heaving with exertion. he then trots over to his companions and says, weakly,
"We did it. We beat 'em." He is visibly pale beneath his helm and in obvious pain, though he is making some attempt to hide it, he is holding his arm stiffly against his side where a tell-tale bloodstain shows where an arrow found it's way through a chink in his armour.

Magnus grunts as the arrow finds it's way through a chink in his armour. He spurs Mjolnir forward, lowering his lance at the lady bandit once again.

Ride-by-attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14

damage if hits: 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (1, 6) + 8 = 15

Magnus spurs on Mjolnir thundering down upon the woman.

that's better. I will assume that's a hit.

She attempts to dodge, but Magnus skewers her in her side.

You are most probably right, that's fine, she's just another bandit to Magnus! and yes, what a dire set of results. Let's hope our luck turns soon or we will be in big trouble.

I assume the one marked WO is Worryn, and the one marked W is a bandit? if so I will use ride-by attack on him, otherwise I will use it on nearest bandit who is free
