Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
"Do we even know what we're being paid for? Ordinarily, I'd think the Lady might have succumbed to my dashing charm, but I don't think she's seen me before. And it doesn't explain why you've been invited." Luenevyn gives a wink. "Any ideas what we're here for? More dogs? Or perhaps we'll be moving up to enraged cows..."
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
DitheringDM wrote: What do you do with the sleeping dogs? Just let them lie? ...sorry, I couldn't resist. If no one else seems willing to take care of business, Luenevyn will go outside the front doors and club the unconscious dogs. At the first sign of movement, however, he runs back inside, fast! (He also recovers his rope & grapple from the balcony.)
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn clambers over the balcony railing and lets out a shuddering breath. "Sweet Charmalaine, that was close!" He notices the mangy dog now lying where the huge dog fell. "Was that what we were fighting? I would swear it was ten times that big! Where'd the big one go?" He scans the yard and notices the sleeping dogs. "So who wants to go back down and make sure the other ones don't turn into some hell-spawned demon-dogs? I volunteer NOT to." Luenevyn slumps to the ground, back against the railing, and runs his hands through sweat-soaked hair. "I need a drink. Anybody have some hooch on them?"
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Ok, we'll try this again. Luenevyn skids to a stop in front of the big dog, club swinging ineffectually. His knees are trembling. One voice inside him says, RUN, you thrice-damned fool!, but another one shrugs and says, In for a copper, in for a gold. The tiniest whimper escapes his lips as Luenevyn swings his club again at the dog's head, hoping he'll be nimble enough to avoid the monster's snapping jaws.
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Crap. "It's not gonna let us just run away!" Luenevyn shouts, horrified to see the giant dog chasing after his friends. I shouldn't be here. I should be sitting in the Empty Grave with a pint of ale, or better yet, at the Secret with Aralandi. I should NOT be here. But his feet are already moving. Luenevyn runs away from the house, club held high, charging the dog. Charge the dog.
Crap again.
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn shouts to the others: "The rope's up! We can climb up to the balcony!" Luenevyn wants to go up himself, but he doesn't want to abandon the group, especially since his only missile weapon (my only weapon, Luenevyn reminds himself) is his club. Hurry up, hurry up! Ready action: If anyone gets to Row 8 without the dogs attacking, Luenevyn will start climbing the rope. Climb (1d20+2=10)
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn runs forward a few feet, twirling his grappling hook to the side before letting it fly towards the balcony of the porch. Move to 11,5
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn looks at the big fire dog and the right corner of the porch. His eyes flick back and forth, gauging the distance between the dog, the party, and the house. He loosens the coil of rope around his shoulders, and looks like he's preparing to run. Ready action: Luenevyn will move once the big dog reaches row 6. Luenevyn will then move to (9, 5).
Without turning his head, he tells the others, "I'm going to try to get my grappling hook on that balcony over the porch, in case we need to get out of that thing's reach. Can you cover me?"

Grumble, grumble, grumble. As I was foolishly taking point, I foolishly thought of myself as going in armed, which goes to show that I was even more foolish than I thought! :) Luenevyn takes up a fighting stance. After a moment, he looks sheepishly around and slowly draws his club, trying not to attract attention. Move action: draw club
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
"From the mouths of babes," Luenevyn mutters to his companions with a wry smile. "Belay that, Prat!" he calls to the boy. "Why don't you let me take point, and you can back me up with that shield of yours. Or perhaps it might be best to see if we can get some of Lam-Ang's meat ready. It's only dogs, but we may as well take advantage of Lance's planning." Luenevyn turns to Summer. "Lady, were you able to get some herbs to spike the meat?"
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Prat's words are echoed by a rumble from Luenevyn's stomach as he realizes he's quite hungry too. "Damn, all that planning and no one remembered food." He sighs. "Well, anyone know how dog tastes?" Luenevyn walks up to the gate and peers through, looking and listening for any sign of these wild dogs.

Lancet 'Lance' Trevoir wrote: "Well. It does have alot of options, but it seems to be a safe plan. I don't mind your objection though. What would your plan be?" "I don't have a plan. It's dogs. Like I said, we go in, we kill 'em, we get paid. Pits and cages and traps and animal trainers? If one comes up to me, I'll club it right back down." Luenevyn demonstrates with a swing from his cudgel. To Lam-Ang he says, "Tepinal's Wares or Leldibar's Shop here in Sunrise may have some of what you're looking for. Otherwise, I'd suggest Champion's District, but that's not really my stomping grounds, so I can't really say for sure." Just want to point out I'm not trying to be a dick here, but Luenevyn's a fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants kind of guy, and usually doesn't have the patience for long planning. And sorry to take so long to respond - RPG Superstar and work were kicking my butt the beginning of this week.

Prat wrote: When Luenevyn finishes Prat nods as if trying to clear his head and says,"You have an odd name. Can I just call you Riddle for short? Anyway, I'm called Prat by my friends at the theater. I've lived there since Ms. Absalee adopted me which is grand since I get to work backstage at all the operas. It's excting and what not, but not nearly as exciting as becomeing an honest to goodness real adventurer!" Luenevyn chuckles good-naturedly at Prat's chatter, perhaps reminded of his own youth. "Sure, Prat, you can call me Riddle. Same goes for the rest for you, if you like." And BTW, it's pronounced Loo-EH-neh-vin.
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
"I, for one, would like to know more about just who I'm working with. Sure, we were all thrown together in the dock fight, but who are you people?" Luenevyn absentmindedly reaches behind him and filches an apple from a fruit-seller's cart. He polishes it on his shirt and takes a bite. "Ok, I'll go first. I'm Luenevyn. Grew up in Azure District, but I wander round a bit. Got fair knowledge of Noble and Sunrise Districts, at least. I can tell you where to get a tattoo in Noble, the best pubs in Sunrise, which gaming halls in Azure stack the odds, and where you can find the most beautiful women in Sasserine. I can probably show you the best fishing spots in the whole city, too. "So, pleased to meet you. That's my story. What're yours?" Taking a closer look, you can see Luenevyn is tall for an elf, but slim, with wild, flame-red hair, green eyes, and charcoal-gray skin. Various tattoos, strange and mundane, cover his face and arms. For those who speak Elven:
Spoiler: The name Luenevyn means "Riddle of Autumn's Fire"
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
"There they are!" Luenevyn points out the rest of the group across the square. Turning to Tolin, he says, "Don't suppose you might give us a few tidbits about why you called us here before the others join us? Specifically payment details, mayhap?" Wait until we get into combat next - Dice karma's a b%~##! :)
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
"I've not seen them, either," Luenevyn tells Tolin. "Do you need all of us, or if the others don't show, is the opportunity for the two of us still open?" Search and Spot as well, just in case
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Over the following week, Luenevyn blows the money he got from the thugs on games of chance at the Imp's Folly and on Aralandi at the Mermaid's Secret, not necessarily in that order. Broke again, he tries to pawn what he can of the thug's possessions: the light crossbow in poor condition, 8 bolts, 4 knives, and the dagger. (He keeps the black bladed buckler as a souvenir and the really nice pair of walking boots.) When the messenger comes, Luenevyn resolves to save this money, and gives half the coffee as a gift to Aralandi. He enjoys an early morning cup of coffee himself before heading to the Dawn Market gates to meet Tolin, curious if any of the others from the pier will be there. How much can I get for the thug's weapons?
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn jumps off the pier into the water to wash off the blood, then hops back up, dripping wet. Seeing that Lance has piled the thugs' goods in a convenient pile, he keeps an eye out for anything of particular value. He also looks for a new shirt that isn't ripped, bloodstained, and might fit him.
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
"I'm Luenevyn. And my companion speaks true, we came to the aid of Liamae. She was having...similar...thug problems. Happy to be of service, but I believe she mentioned something about a reward for our aid...?" To Lance: "The lady's berries seem to have done me right, Lance. Sadly, I can't say the same for my shirt. But I'll gladly the accept the ale!"
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn is feeling positively giddy from the effects of the berries. He steps up to stand beside Prat. "It seems our cunning plan to withdraw has failed," he tells his companions. "To the right, 'ware the man on board the ship." Luenevyn makes a 5' step and readies an attack action if any thug (or the man on the ship) comes within reach.
Luenevyn also tries to keep the man on the ship in sight.

DitheringDM wrote: Luenevyn: Summer moved before you, handing over 5 Goodberries - you move this round but that still leaves a standard action... But I also drew my club, which was a second move action, so I'm out of actions for the first round. 2nd round: Luenevyn gulps a couple of the berries Summer gave him and stays where he is, twirling his club, and holding the line of retreat with Lam-ang. Ready action: Attack if any of the thugs come within a 5' step of me.

"Yeah lady, well it was two against one." He looks at the fallen bodies at his feet. "I don't think I did half bad, all things considered." Luenevyn gasps in pain again as Summer probes his wound. "Ow! Watch it!" Now I can see more posts. But they weren't there before...
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
"More lucky than anything, really. You're no slouch with that staff yourself. I'm Luenevyn. You're not from around here, are you?" Luenenevyn moves forward to return the greeting and winces, putting his hand to his side where the thug stabbed him. "The lady? I'm more concerned about myself." As he watches the blood soak into shirt, he curses and adds, "This is my only shirt."
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn pivots as the thug brushes past him and swings his club.
Fourth round action:
Dithering DM:
Spoiler: By the way, which of these guys is my "mark"?
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn gasps in shock as the leader's blade cuts into him. He twirls his club in an attempt to parry more blows, and swings at the leader.
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Luenevyn steps into the alley behind the men. Drawing a club, he creeps up stealthily behind them. Move action to draw weapon, second move action to sneak closer.
I haven't actually played 3.5 in a while, so it'll take me a few combats to get used to what actions I can take, etc. I can't draw my weapon, move up to them, and attack this round, right?
Male Fire Elf Rogue 1
Spoiler:
Cursing himself for his curiosity, but unable to resist, Luenevyn heads over to the alley where the men dragged the woman. Not completely foolhardy, however, he decides to get a better idea of the situation before sticking his nose where it doesn't belong.
Luenevyn pauses out of sight at the corner of the alley.
To DitheringDM: Should we put our actions in spoilers (I notice Lam-ang did) or just post them in the open? |
