This campaign begins in the exotic port city of Sasserine, and it is here that the foundations of your character will be laid. The City of Sasserine is perched on the edge of the known world, the last stop before the endless expanse of the Amedio Jungle. It is a hub of trade, and home to more than fifteen thousand souls, a bastion of civilization in a realm haunted by piracy, disease, violent weather, and monsters.
Lam-ang
You meander down roads and paths and across tall arching bridges. At the crest of one such span you notice the magnificent Castle Teraknian perched on its own weathered island. Supposedly, there are portions of the keep open to the public so you decide to make that your destination. Winding around the harbor, you hug the cliffs and make your way up through a richer part of town. The splendor of the Temple to Wee Jas takes your breath away. The red tile roofs that crown all the building in town seem to be a deeper red here. The aged marble columns shine with polish. Everything is imaculate. It's hard to believe so much beauty masks a sinster deat cult. Oh well, on you go. The road curves and becomes more crowded and people begin to scurry about.
All of a sudden a huge commotion breaks out. People begin to scream and shout and run about in total chaos. A lady can be seen running across the far end of the intersection being followed by three rather hardy looking adventurers. As quickly as it started the excitement begins to die down. As the road clears a group of shady looking men grab a bedraggled looking woman and drag her between two buildings (about a full round's movement away).
Lance:
The next morning you head through the Noble District toward the guildhall. The green between the instrument maker's guild and cartography building is as busy as any day. People leaving from the surrounding inns and taverns make their way back to work while other linger to see and be seen. All of a sudden a huge commotion breaks out. Luenevyn:
The man wanders aimlessly up the coast (he can't be from around here) and only pauses in front of the excessive temple of Wee Jas. After admiring the grandeur of indulgence the Ruby Lady likes to exhibit, the man continues around Warlock's Way. There is a larger gathering of people in the roadway as people begin to head back to work or home after having a nice lunch.

What do you do?

To DitheringDM: How are the shady looking men armed? And how many are they? Spot and Listen Checks?

Luenevyn pauses out of sight at the corner of the alley.
Move Silently (1d20+4=12) and Listen (1d20+7=13)
To DitheringDM: Should we put our actions in spoilers (I notice Lam-ang did) or just post them in the open?

Lancet "Lance" Trevoir |

Curious. Lance looks around to see if there are any guards around to be signaled as he moves over to the alley. He also tries to determine wehter those three adventurers were following that other lady or chasing her. After a brief thought he also looks around to see if other people are interested in this event (looking for allies and if ruffians have back up).

Lance quickly nods to his temporary allies. Casting a light spell on the wall beside the thugs he says very loudly "Stop! Guards! You criminals will not get away with this. Stop and surrender or face my lightning!"
He also draws a dagger from his belt.
Dagger drawing = move; light spell= standard; talk = free (bluff: 1d20 = Natural 20 )

Sorry, I did not answer your original questions. Lance does not see any guards about. The three adventures appeared to be chasing the original woman (not to be confused with the abducted woman), but she did not seem in a panic.

That is what I figured. He says "guards" just to startle the men into thinking that they are in deep trouble. With "guards" coming and him being a "dangerous spell caster" and all. Well that is is hope. He knows he can't take these men alone.

Lam-ang |

Upon seeing the thugs, Lam-ang quickly ducks out of sight. He signals to the other man that he is with him.
Lam-ang prepares to strike at the first thug to rush out. If they didn't see me then these thugs would be more than confident to attack. I'll catch them flat-footed then.

Prat |

Summer is interested but just dosen't care enough about other human beings to interfere. She is however glad that she has her walking stick/quarterstaff with her in these dangerous times. As the boy runs past she turns to him and says "Hey you, with the toy sword, what's going on over there?"
"Those men they... grabed her, and that guy is yelling for the watch..a fight... come see for your self," Prat exclaims not waiting for her answer as he charges after trying to see every exciting moment.

DitheringDM |

To the right is low wooden building with no obvious windows or doors in the alley. To the left is a large, stone and wood, two-story building, also with no access. The second floor over hangs the first with carved and painted wooden supports. The effect is to produce a tunnel with very little sunlight. The alley is about 60 feet long and the hoodlums are near the center, facing you in the brilliant light spell. The men stop harassing the woman and look fearfully at the armed man. His grimace never waves so the two closest men stand up and begin to move toward you. They slam their fists into their open hands menacingly. The third man slips on his bladed buckler with a snarl while the leader holds his ground.
If you look at the Sasserine map, I am describing the area just east of the Lidu estate in the Noble District, at area 20 (also labeled W7), between the larger red building and the smaller wooden one just below it.
As the two men approach Lance, Lam-Ang swings his quarterstaff from the side, catching one man squarely across his gut, doubling him over as he crashes to the ground, blood visible in his mouth. The remaining man looks terrified and enraged all at once and raises his fists to strike at Lance.
Luenevyn: at top speed, with adrenaline fueling your pace, you circumnavigate the building to arrive at the far end of the alley for the beginning of round two. You may act.
Prat: by the beginning of round two you arrive on scene with Summer in tow (if she chooses to follow). There is space to step between Lam-Ang and Lance...but watch the Olman's swing!. You both may act.
post your actions for round two!

Lam-ang |

Lam-ang lunges for the remaining thug attacking the man holding up the light. He roars his indignation as he hammers down his quarterstaff.
"Raaaaaaaaaah! I come for you!" Hopefully this will distract this thug long enough to give my ally a chance.
Attack Roll 1d20+2=17, Damage Roll 1d6+3=6
DitheringDM: There is no flanking bonus applied to the attack roll, if you see that the situation calls for it, please add accordingly. Thanks :D

Luenevyn steps into the alley behind the men. Drawing a club, he creeps up stealthily behind them.
Move action to draw weapon, second move action to sneak closer.
Move Silently (1d20+4=8)
I haven't actually played 3.5 in a while, so it'll take me a few combats to get used to what actions I can take, etc. I can't draw my weapon, move up to them, and attack this round, right?

Lancet "Lance" Trevoir |

Summer Grey |

Summer decides that it is worth a small delay to at least watch the commotion. She follows the boy with the rapier and looks at the woman. Summer is trying to assess the upside of helping defeat the thugs. She looks to see if the woman is dressed in expensive looking clothes.
Spot 15 (11+4)

DitheringDM |

The remaining man raises his fists to strike at Lance, who steps back and flings a dagger at the thug. It sticks in his shoulder but not too deep. The assailant swings wide and misses as the dagger bites deeper into his arm. Lam-ang brings his quarterstaff down, yelling "Raaaaaaaaaah! I come for you!". The wood connects with the thug's skull, making a sharp cracking sound. The man slumps to his knees and topples over on to the first fallen man. The two remaining men in the alley turn to flee and are surprised to find Luenevyn creeping up from behind them. They charge and swing with their blades. The third thug misses while the gang leader slashes more proficiently (Luenevyn takes 2 points of damage.).
Prat and Summer both get a good look at the woman lying in the alley (thanks to the light spell's illumination). She is very banged up but obviously not in any threat of dying. She seems to half smile and gives Prat a wink.
The lady sits up, begins to speak a very raspy incantation, and pushes her arms toward the criminals. Two blindingly brilliant points of light rush from her finger tips towards to the men. One hits each man with a surprising amount of force. Staggered, both men keep their footing (they are currently about 45 feet away from Lance and Lam-Ang).
post your round three actions!

Luenevyn |

Luenevyn gasps in shock as the leader's blade cuts into him. He twirls his club in an attempt to parry more blows, and swings at the leader.

DitheringDM |

Luenevyn gasps in shock as the leader's blade cuts into him. However, the gang leaders cocky grin quickly turns to shock as he and his cohort are struck with enough arcane force to stagger them. Luenevyn twirls his club in an attempt to parry more blows, and swings at the leader. He connects solidly and the thug falls to the ground with the same shocked expression on his face. The final gang member steps past the elf and tries to flee out of the alley (Luenevyn, you may make an attack of opportunity if you so choose.).
Summer, Lance is the guy you have seen before.
Lance yells "Take care of these men! Make sure they don't die!", pulls his dagger from the fallen thug and charges down the alley with Lam-Ang. Summer and Prat follow close behind. The mysterious lady slumps back against the building, exhausted but still conscious. Lam-Ang asks "You alright?"
Summer, make a Heal check, please.

Lam-Ang starts to chase down the last thug but stops. Luenevyn pivots as the thug brushes past him and swings his club. The attack is true and slams the remaining man against the wall. He slides quickly to the ground.
Noticing that woman is concious Lance moves down the alley to the fallen "leader". He pins the bladed buckler to ground with his foot and checks on the man's condition. There is no pulse...
Luenevyn:
Summer quickly ascertains that the woman has only suffered nonleathal damage and will recover in due time. "So what idiotic action did you engage in to get kidnapped?" The woman appears not to notice the question and askes, "Please help me up."
Prat races down the ally and kneel's down beside the women and asks, "Are you alright? How'd you do that?"
"I think you'll know soon enough..." she says mysteriously and then turns her attention to the group. "I am Liamae." She tries to smooth her robes as three armed men cautiously appear at the west end of the alley. "What is the meaning of this?" one of the men yells.
"Quickly," the lady continues, "I am in the service of Lady Vanderboren and I fear she may have been lead into a life threatening situation." She curses in a most unlady-like maner under her breath. "I am in no shape to alert my comrades so I implore you to please answer my plea for assistance.
"My Lady has just left to intercept more of these thieves from stealing supplies for the upcoming Wormfall Festival. The ship was said to arrive this afternoon on the Murdock pier across from the Musician's Guildhall in the High Market. Take my insignia (a lovely jade raven) and seek out my companions: a human, a half-elf, and a dwarf with the same tokens. Tell them what has transpired here and you will surely be rewarded."
The guards begin to approach.
"There is no time for this. Take these (she gives a handfull of berries to Summer) and make haste," Liamae says anxiously and points to the east exit of the alley, away from the approaching guards. "I will take care of them."
That is the end of combat - what will you do next?!? Role play a little...
Summer:
Prat:

Lancet "Lance" Trevoir |

Over-hearing what the lady had said, Lance jogs over to her all the while cursing under his breath. He then holds out his hand (for the symbol) and says "I will help, but it had better not be a fools errand here."
Once she hands over the symbol to him or someone else:
Lance then heads to the east end of the alley away from the guards intending to head towards the docks. He gestures to the others in the alleyway that they should follow.
Lance is a bit angry right now as he has just helped get someone killed, even if it was a criminal. After all they were beating someone nonlethally and then these fellows and himself pulled weapons and attacked in a manner that lead to death.

Luenevyn |

"More lucky than anything, really. You're no slouch with that staff yourself. I'm Luenevyn. You're not from around here, are you?"
Luenenevyn moves forward to return the greeting and winces, putting his hand to his side where the thug stabbed him.
"The lady? I'm more concerned about myself."
As he watches the blood soak into shirt, he curses and adds, "This is my only shirt."

Lancet "Lance" Trevoir |

Lance looks at Prat. "I would appreciate if you could show me the way then."
As he heads to the end of the alley he says to the two men "Are you all right?"
"I hope so. Unfortunately its not over just yet. I think we should help that ladies employer," He indicates the woman who was attacked "If we want to avoid major trouble with the guards." His pace quickens as he remembers the guards and what he has heard about what happens to you in jail.

Lam-ang |

"I live outside of the city in one of the plantations but when I do come here, I usually stay at the Knowlern estate."
Then Lam-ang catches a look at the blood pouring from the elf, "Let's have a healer get a look at your wound. That looks nasty."
"Friends! May we request your assistance!" Lam-ang shouts after the other people who helped the woman.

Summer Grey |

Summer turns around and sees the elf with blood. She walks back to him and tries to examine and tend to his shoulder. As she does so she says "I thought your folk were agile and quick to dodge. I quess that mop on your head isn't the only thing that is not elf like."

Luenevyn gasps in pain again as Summer probes his wound. "Ow! Watch it!"
Now I can see more posts. But they weren't there before...
