Congratz to everyone that made it in, hope you'll have fun!

Before you close this thread, Spring-Heeled GM if I may impose just a little bit more, I'd love to hear one last time from you with feedback about the discarded characters. You know, if you thought something was out of place, or could have been done better, or simply if you have general suggestions.

I'm always trying to improve my characters and how I present them to others, and this would help me a great deal!

Thank you in advance! ^_^

I'll keep some of you in consideration if there are any drop-outs early on

Please do! Always nice to have another chance to play :).

Very important since it makes my job of sorting so much easier, I'd like you to give me a quick rundown of your mechnical uses. Not necessarily a deep strategy paragraph, but a sentence or two just detailing what your character does; if they're leaning toward support magic, going to be focusing on certain skills or sub-roles beyond the typical Martial/Arcane/Divine/Skill split.

No problem! Crunch-wise, I always like to differentiate between combat role and out-of-combat role. In Lilien's case:

Combat Role:
During combat, her goal is rather straightforward, win initiative and lay the ground for the rest of the party. This may mean a plethora of things, and depends on the encounter and party composition. She could ensnare a group of enemies to the let a ranged-heavy group take them down from a distance, or debuff their saves so the party blaster could blow them sky-high, summon monster to provide a flank buddy to the rogue, or haste the whole party, and so on.

In short, she is very focused on supporting, and lets everyone in the party have fun doing their thing (this way, you don't have to worry about "ok, it's my turn, I cast a save-or-die on the bad guy! I don't hit, zero usefulness, I do, fun's over for everyone!"... Ok ok, I'm being a bit biased and unfair here, sorry about that ;).

Also, the particular build I'm thinking about it's actually kind of light in the feat department, meaning after the first few levels, I could "steer" it a little one way or the other, to better suit the party needs, like take specific item creation feats (if they are allowed), or make my summons stronger if the party needs more frontline fighters, etc...

Out of Combat: of course, being a wizard means she could help the party with all manners of utility spells. Also, being kind of a bookworm, she will sport a full array of maxed out knowledge skills, ready to be of service.

Well, this covers the mechanical aspects. As for social interactions, Lilien is young, curious and full of energy; also a bit naive and inexperienced, and at times slightly oblivious of other races' manners and customs. Even with her social awkwardness, she will definitely try to establish a good relationship with the other characters right form the start :).

As always, if you'd like me to change something I'm always open to suggestions and critiques. Oh, and sry for the wall of text!

Submitting Lilien Elendyll for consideration.

Character's gist: Female Elf Diviner.

Combat role: enabler, buffer/debuffer, summoner. She'll try to win initiative and set the battlefield to the party advantage.

Out of combat: lore expert, arcane utility spells specialist. No matter how difficult, she'll tackle every knowledge check like there is no tomorrow! Also, she'll offer arcane utility whenever possible.

Background:
Lilien Elendyll, only daughter of Seldlon Elendyll and Varaera Selendenal, was born and rasied in Iadara, capital city of Kyonin, the aptly called "Reign of the Elves".
Strict but loving, her parents were determined to raise her to become a proper lady, and even more importantly, a proper elf.
They taught her their people history, their traditions and their ideals, even though their lessons were sketchy, and oftentimes downright dismissive, about other races and cultures.
When during her early childhood Lilien manifested great promise as a pratictioner of the Art, her family was overjoyed, and encouraged her to fully embrace her gift and develop her skills.
After years of tutoring and well on her way to become an accomplished mage, Lilien started to become more and more restless. The more she studied immersed in the ever undisturbed peace of Iadara, the more she craved to finally get to see what was really out there.
So many wonders, and misteries and magical knowledge were out there, just waiting to be discovered. She wanted to experience the world. She wanted adventure. But she was still far too young.
In an effort to both quench her thirst for adventure (and danger, in her parents' eyes) and further her magical studies, her father arranged for Lilien to spend a few years attending a magical college of renown, far away from Iadara and Kyonin, but still relatively safe.
He entrusted her to an old friend and fellow Arcanist of renown, a professor of magical theory at the Grand Acadamae of Korvosa, in Varisia. Thrilled at the opportunity, Lilien accepted her father's proposal without a second tought.

It was there at the Acadamae that she met Professor Lorrimor, during one of his famous lectures, adn remained fascinated by his knowledge about the most diverse of topics imaginable. In turn, the good professor took notice of this bright young girl so eager to learn, to discover, to debate and to ponder.
He took her under his wing, so to speak, and during his visits in Korvosa never missed the opportunity to look her up for another one of their stimulating study sessions.
When the professor was not in Korvosa, they used to mantain a semi-regular epistolary correspondence; Lilien writing about her new discoveries, theories and questions, and the old Professor giving insightful answers, wise advice and proposing new topics for her studies.
When she recived word of the Professor's passing, it was a hard blow. Shocked and saddened, she quickly began preparations to attend the Professor's funeral, as the missive she received requested.

Personality:
With her 115 years of age and standing just over 5 and a half feet tall, Lilien tends to be considered both extremely young and decisively petite for elven standards.
Nevertheless, her natural grace and beautiful countenance, her bright expression and pleasant, melodious voice have always made overlooking the coy girl a hard task indeed.
Long, wavy strands of golden hair and large emerald eyes finely complement her fair skin and delicate features, further enhancing her allure.

Young and passionate, curious and eager to discover and learn, Lilien was however raised to be composed, polite and strive and maintain a proper demeanor at all times.
Coupled with her relative inexperience in dealing with other races due to her secluded upbringing, she may come out as snobbish and even dismissive at times, despite her best efforts to the contrary.

As with many of her kind, she values freedom and independence, and holds family and friends in the highest regard.
Confident in her arcane prowess and academic knowledge, she feels ready to finally venture into the world and experience its portents.

If something seems wrong or not suitable, I'm willing to discuss/change it to fit in with the other characters. Oh, and my time is (GMT -1).

Hope you like her!

Arcane slot was probably the hardest choice I had to make. I really like the thought of a diviner in action.

Oh well, at least I know you liked my concept :).

Btw, if you ever find yourself in need of another char to fill a spot (or another role in the current party: I couldn't help but notice you don't have a knowledge skill monkey, and that was precisely my char specialty *hint* *hint*), just remember Lilien stands ready for action!

Happy gaming!

Best of luck to everyone that managed to get in the game!

Just out of curiosity though, and also to get useful advice to build a better character in the future, if I may ask, what influenced you most in your decisions?

I'm expecially curious about the arcane spot on the team, since I was presenting an arcane character and they were the minority of the applications.

Thanks for your time, and happy gaming.

Sure, if not initially selected, I'd be willing to be an alternate.
An additional chance to play is always a good thing!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

what are your expectations from the GM/game?
to not play favourites (I've had some bad experiences...), to post often and set a good pace and atmosphere for the game; and if any problem should ever arise, to tell us so we could try to help him! We are all on the same boat after all!

What are your expectations from other players?
to get along, to be mature, to post often, and if something should ever go wrong to discuss the problem openly with the others (no passive-aggressive or otherwise disruptive behaviour, it ALWAYS ends up ruining the mood).
Also, I'd like for everyone to really get along and become a group of friends, not just a few polite strangers that happen to be playing together. It's the best way to have fun playing the game! ^_^

I'd be very interested to finally get the chance to play this adventure path!

I'd like to submit this character for scrutiny. Profile is almost complete, just needs equipment and maybe a few finshing touches.
Here is her background:

Lilien Elendyll, Elven Wizard:

Lilien Elendyll, only daughter of Seldlon Elendyll and Varaera Selendenal, was born and rasied in Iadara, capital city of Kyonin, the aptly called "Reign of the Elves".
Strict but loving, her parents were determined to raise her to become a proper lady, and even more importantly, a proper elf.

Also, additional

fluff:

The focus of this character is support, as in my goal is to make the group's tasks as easy as possible, be it by buffing/debuffing/"softening" enemies in combat, or out of combat by passing knowledge checks, perception checks, etc... And of course using my array of utility spells for whatever is needed. Basically helping others have fun ^_^.

Also, as asked, the salient points of her background...

Where are they from? Born in Iadara, Kyonin. Right now in Korvosa, Varisia.
Why are they an adventurer? Mainly lust for knowledge and excitement.
What is their history with Professor Lorrimor? He was one of Lilien's most admired teachers. She really looked up to him.
What motivates them? She wants to explore the world, to uncover great mysteries and to become a great wizard, famous and respected. But above all else, she just wants to make her parents proud.
What are their strengths and weaknesses? She is knowledgeable about a plethora of topics and things, and she strives to be always prepared for any and all occurrences. On the other end she is still very young (for an elf), a bit naive and quite inexperienced.
If they were a piece of furniture, what type of furniture would they be? A chair, without a doubt! She may act unimportant and unassuming, but when you need her the most she's always there to support you and keep you from falling down. ^_^

And finally a little about me: I have years of experience as a player (and DM too), but I'll admit not so much with PbP, as I have played only 2 games this way (well, plus a third one that unfortunately went on only for a short time due to our GM's RL issues, so he decided to cancel it). I fully intend to be as active as possible, and have no problems whatsoever posting at least once per day.

Hope you like my char!
