I'd love to have the fast / slow track decision made on a chronicle by chronicle basis, I think I screwed up applying it to my bard that I'm running through ES. Particularly due to the variable xp on one of the levels I think it makes it challenging to plan that out.

Making that decision on each chronicle would seem to make it easier when you're trying for continuity, like with ES or if you're trying to complete all the scenarios for a given season with one char like Nefreet mentioned above.

Looks good, very representative crowd of advisers there to guide him and cheer him on!

Hi all, Indiana resident here, and apologies to everyone that this is how the state is making news this week. A few clarifications - several amendments were proposed that were struck down, so:

No signs showing who will be denied service - house amendment 6 would have required store owners to post signs showing who they would not do business with. Apparently they will be hiding their righteousness bigotry "under a bushel."

House amendments 1 & 2 were also eliminated - that would have explicitly protected the welfare of children (minors) but apparently that would have restricted religious freedom too much. Millstones for everyone!

House amendments 3 & 4 (also eliminated) seem to be about local civil protections, so they were removed to make sure a more progressive region in the state couldn't trump someone's ability to discriminate.

If it seems to apply only to homosexuality, you might look at how religion was used to justify bigotry in earlier civil rights struggles.

And if it really comes down to a baker making a cake for a gay wedding would violate their religious beliefs and having to do that may come up under equal protection clauses that govern business operations, why are they making cakes in the first place? Do they love their cakes more than they love their god? That sounds like a question only Eddie Izzard could help us answer.

Elves everywhere long for a mount as obnoxious as Thranduil's. I wish I could see him taking Queen Amidala out for a date on it with her wearing her biggest head chandelier.

It did a good job of wrapping up the three movies and Thorin's character added some complexity beyond "ok, everyone line up and whack on everyone else."

My main PFS char is an evoker so you have my sympathies. While every encounter doesn't have to be "boom = win" I don't believe it would matter if you made different choices and chose buff spells or whatever, it sounds like the GM just wants the party to feel threatened and/or under-powered for the fights.

This reminds me a lot of a GM I dealt with for a while when I was living somewhere else and had to drive an hour to get to a game. The GM reacted continuously to player choices about character builds by introducing new rules that nerfed builds after the fact. So I continually changed characters, pretty much once a week until I quit. The GM raged "there is no feeling of continuity!" and the only accurate response was "that's right, because you keep changing and adding to your ever-growing mess of house rules."

I'm not sure what the intent of your GM is, but the one I was dealing with really got into DM ex machina, so the PCs were just there to get in trouble and be saved by fiat. It ended up being not worth the drive.

(detailed explanation in spoiler above) In other words, the Emerald Spire has mechanics to boost your fame accrual to be close to what you should be getting by playing scenarios exclusively.

Good to know - thanks to everyone in the thread for the info, and for this post specifically for the detailed explanation!

I started playing Emerald Spire in a PFS this weekend. I'm not sure if this is consistent throughout the superdungeon or across all modules (hence the possible spoiler in the subject) but we got 3 xp and only 4 prestige points, when from what I've seen so far in PFS there's usually the possibility to get up to 6 prestige points every time you level. Since fame = prestige, does leveling up a character through a module have a big negative impact on your gear at higher level since the gold you can spend per item is limited by your fame?

Other than that question, we had a great time - just somewhat concerned by how the math would seem to work out over time and wondered how it played out for other people.

Thanks!

There are free alternatives, but you may not be able to apply conditions as quickly as herolab (like rage and post-rage). I only use a printed character sheet so the free option works great for me, even to the point of referencing source and page number to know if you own a resource before adding an option to a char or in case you have to look something up at the table (only matters for PFS).

I'm interested but I'm late and would duplicate someone else - still, adding my name on the off chance it works out.

Finally! A "Walking Dead" I can watch while drinking!

They did make some comment like "we've got a fast one" which implied the zombies would have varying speeds. And now, to kick back and wait for the zom-nado finale!

Single & childless here so I understand your post.

If you ban kids you'll probably lose the parents. Several friends I game with have had kids so we tried to find a way to work around it but it can be challenging.

For kids that are old enough, you might invest in some quieter toys to keep at your place. I have some friends with great kids but all kids can get loud, so I bought a couple plastic tubs worth of crayons so they definitely have something to do while they're at my place.

Also, you mention a game that you run in your home - do you have to host? If not and that game involves parents with kids, it may be easier (quieter, etc) to move the game to the parents' house if they're willing, a lot of times kids can keep themselves entertained if they have access to all their toys and are someplace familiar.

The censoring thing when kids are there - understand what you mean. If the parents have come to the game before, maybe they're making the decision that it's ok? or maybe they're assuming that it will become kid friendly - not sure, hopefully a parent will comment on that part.

This is the first time I've played PFS at GenCon - played about half a year prior to the con. I did find it kind of odd to randomly get this particular boon since I've only been a player so far, so I traded it almost immediately to someone posting in the boon trading thread. I wanted to play a non-standard race, that player had several options, I told them to pick one and send that in exchange for the recharge boon. Without commenting on the con / non-con distribution, it may have been better to only give the boon to GMs since it seems like it would matter most to people who have GMed a lot.

I think martials should be buffed but the buffs should follow a per day mechanic like a caster, and just plain regular weapon damage should be nerfed. Each level up, everyone picks some set of abilities that all do roughly the same thing with kinda different flavor text.

If anyone can do something an unlimited amount of times, it should all be about as powerful as a Ray of Frost even if it's swinging a sword. If the party decides to have one superfun nova fight in the beginning of the day they can all enjoy 150 round combats chipping away at BBE for the next few hours.

In the Guide to PFS Organized Play on page 21 it says "a GM must be present in order for you to purchase items" and "All transactions must be recorded on the scenario's Chronicle sheet and reflected on your character's Inventory Tracking Sheet." It may be implied that the GM is signing off on purchases but it doesn't explicitly say "GM must sign off on or initial each purchased item."

In any of the online games I've played everyone is posting in the hangout or roll20 chat what they plan to purchase before we start, but I've never had that info copy / pasted into the chronicle sheet the GM sends out to us afterward.
