Appearance:

When one firsts meet Laurentii, they first notice his smile, a simple and friendly one devoid of malice. Like most elves, he possesses smooth and pleasant features which are enhanced by his green eyes and smooth shoulder length brown hair tightly tied in a ponytail. Yet, for all these attributes, Laurentii is not so much attractive as he is friendly. Paired with a slightly noble demeanor, this cordiality usually puts others at ease, independently of their socio-economic status. His clothes, although not of rich making, show his familiarity with the latest trends of Cheliax.

General personality:

Laurentii is an overly enthusiastic elf who has and insatiable taste for knowledge. He can sometimes come as annoying, but his positive outlook on things and his naiveté usually balance it out. Having spent most of his life reading books in order to know about the world and relied on his long life to obtain first hand experience, Laurentii know little about how things are done or how to interact with people (even when he was learning different trades, he was so focused on the task that he barely interacted with people). Now, he seeks to experience all, he might even go as far as to create rivals just for the sake of trying something new (but will never willfully endanger anyone).
Laurentii’s personality is partly inspired by professor Zei from Avatar: The Last Airbender (NOT the movie with blue people).

Motivaion:

Laurentii’s goal in life is to live a life of traveling and adventure, like the all the “heroes” he read about in books. More particularly, he has been dreaming of Tian-Xia ever since he read about it in books, and even more so once he met Ameiko. Therefore, his life goal is to reach the country and live through whatever he needs to get there.

Foreseen advancement:

Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) all the way, the bard level is only to reflect his upbringing.

Background:

Summary: The elf bookworm who, upon witnessing his brother’s silly and early death, decided to go out and live (a life of adventure!).

Laurentii and his twin brother, Vincenzi, were abandoned as babies on the porch of a rich estate in Magnimar. Though most would have brought them to an orphanage (or even sold them), the owner of the estate, an old eccentric widow, took a fancy to them and decided to take them into her home. In the following years, the twins were raised by servants and mainly served as “trophies” for their owner to flaunt to her rich friends. The woman would often say that they were like tiny cherubim.
As the novelty faded, the lady stopped paying attention to them, letting the servants handle them.

It is around these years that the two brothers met with their first friend, the last heir of the lady. He was brought, as a young child, to the estate in order to be raised properly. Even though he quickly became much mature than them, they bonded and formed a long lasting friendship. It is this friendship which led their friend to allow them to stay in the estate once the eccentric lady passed away. By this time, they had already lived there for 30 years.

For the next 60 years, the twins continued spending a really sheltered life. Most of their time was spent in the library reading books, mostly volumes from the pathfinder society which inspired them greatly. They constantly dreamt of going out and discovering new people and places in the world. However, being so long lived, they did not feel the need to leave their comfort. It is around this time that Laurentii found an old armor in the attic, which he kept wearing all the time, imaging a life of adventure (see armor specialist trait).

All changed when Laurentii opened a cursed book which caused him to become incredibly weak. Even though that meant he could not adventure as he dreamed, he stayed optimistic, confident that one day some hero, or time, might rid him of the curse (as in the books he had read). Had their friend, the owner of the estate, not passed away hours after the curse took hold, someone may have been hired to cure him. However, the new owner was not the kind of man who would keep them as anything but servants, even less pay for treatment for Laurentii’s curse. Thus, the two brothers had to find a job. Laurentii, being weak but quite knowledgeable as to the books contained within the large library of the estate became its librarian. Vincenzi, his more capable brother, decided to enroll in archeological expeditions financed by the owner of the estate (and with the pathfinder society).

In the following two decades, Laurentii’s elven patience and naiveté were enough to give him the impression that everything would fix itself and that he was in no danger of skipping on a life of adventure. As such he allowed himself to enjoy his time as a librarian, taking as much time as possible to peruse tomes concerning the land which most intrigued him: Tian Xia. Upon finding that the current owner of the estate was the kind of man who liked to impress others with his extensive knowledge, and yet could barely even be called a dilettante, Laurentii took it upon himself to investigate different professions and gather informations on numerous professions. This, coupled with his an uncanny ability he has to quickly apply theory learned in books to practical matters, allowed him to perform quite well (represented by the feat Breadth of Experience).

Laurentii’s favorite assignment during these years was his trip to Sandpoint during which he was to investigate the glasswork factories. On this trip he met Ameiko Kaijitsu, new owner of the factory. As she was Tian, he became quite obsessed about learning more about her origins and tried to spend as much time as possible with her. Back in Magnimar he tried to start a correspondence with her (Success up to the DM!).

On his 110 birthday, Laurentii was finally freed from his curse. His brother, having finally found magic strong enough to break the spell, came back and dispelled the curse. That day, the two brothers went out to celebrate. However, due to bad luck Vincenzi was killed by a brick which fell from a building. After spending all of his brother’s saving to try and raise him (his soul would not come back), Laurentii realized how short life could be, even for the elf that he was. After a few days of meditation on the subject, he decided to quit his employement as a librarian to start living the life he had always wanted. His first stop was planned to be in Sandpoint, to visit Ameiko and learn more about Tian-Xian, including ways to get there, which he currently knows little about.

Ability Score Racial Traits: Elves are nimble, both in body and mind, but their form is frail. They gain +2 Dexterity, +2 Intelligence, and –2 Constitution.
Base Speed: Elves have a base speed of 30 feet.

Elven Immunities: Elves are immune to magic sleep effects and gain a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells and effects.

Elven Magic: Elves receive a +2 racial bonus on caster level checks made to overcome spell resistance. In addition, elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Spellcraft skill checks made to identify the properties of magic items.

Bardic Performance: 5rd/day
Starting a bardic performance is a standard action, but it can be maintained each round as a free action. Changing a bardic performance from one effect to another requires the bard to stop the previous performance and start a new one as a standard action.

[i]Naturalist (Ex): [i/] An archivist who has identified a creature with a Knowledge check appropriate to its type can use performance to share strategies for defeating it with allies in combat. The archivist and any allies within 30 feet gain a +1 insight bonus to AC and on attack rolls and saving throws against exceptional*, supernatural, and spell-like abilities used by creatures of that specific kind of monster (e.g., frost giants, not all giants or all humanoids). This language-dependent ability requires visual and audible components.

[i]Distraction (Su): [i/] At 1st level, a bard can use his performance to counter magic effects that depend on sight. Each round of the Distraction, he makes a Perform (act, comedy, dance, or oratory) skill check. Any creature within 30 feet of the bard (including the bard himself) that is affected by an illusion (pattern) or illusion (figment) magical attack may use the bard’s Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the Distraction is already under the effect of a non-instantaneous illusion (pattern) or illusion (figment) magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it sees the Distraction, but it must use the bard’s Perform check result for the save. Distraction does not work on effects that don’t allow saves. Distraction relies on visual components.

[i]Fascinate (Su): [i/] At 1st level, a bard can use his performance to cause one or more creatures to become fascinated with him. Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear the bard, and capable of paying attention to him. The bard must also be able to see the creatures affected. The Distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents the ability from working. Each creature within range receives a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 the bard’s level + the bard’s Cha modifier) to negate the effect. If a creature’s saving throw succeeds, the bard cannot attempt to fascinate that creature again for 24 hours. If its saving throw fails, the creature sits quietly and observes the performance for as long as the bard continues to maintain it. While fascinated, a target takes a –4 penalty on skill checks made as reactions, such as Perception checks. Any potential threat to the target allows the target to make a new saving throw against the effect. Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a weapon at the target, automatically breaks the effect.
Fascinate is an enchantment (compulsion), mind-affecting ability. Fascinate relies on audible and visual components in order to function.
