Hello! *crosses fingers that Contentious is okay* @Yue - I can't imagine how this feels, I looked at your last game. My first game with Contentious as a GM did however come to a satisfactory finish - so I think this one will too hopefully : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Laillei flinches as the bandit's arrow whistles past uncomfortably close to her face. With a snarl and a sweeping gesture, she pulls the arrow out of the air and throws it back at the shooter. Casting Telekinetic Projectile with some extra flair. Was thinking I should help dig trough all the sucky dice rolls in the thread :P (seriously, 5 rolls in total above 10 in the last 20-30 rolls I can see when I preview my post ...) To Hit: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Damage?: 1d6 ⇒ 2 +1 Bleed 2/6 rounds of Dark Self left
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23 What - isn't that a tad bit hypocritic? Laillei mentally noted and pointed at the bandit leader. "He is conjuring more allies!" AND HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL - TO BE REPLACED SO WILLINGLY? DISCARDED LIKE A USED UP HANDKERCHIEF. PATHETIC. She projected the dejected thoughts along with a (un)healthy dose of malice towards one of the thugs near their leader. Murderous Command @Bandit behind and to the left of the leader - hopefully to distract/disrupt the summoning. But it may not make it in time given the imitative order (if the bandit leader is to act before the bandit grunts, for example : ) ) 3/6 rounds of Dark Self left, 2/5 1st level slots left
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 2 Very pleased by the fruits of her efforts, Laillei turns her attention to the archers instead. Being perforated by arrows was not on her to-do list for today so maybe she could shift that responsibility to someone else ... Locking gaze with one of the archers she once more projected raw malice into his mind, whispering sweet nothings about the beautiful carnage that would result if he just shot that pesky guy next to him. With all that said and done Laillei moved back towards the crowd of peasants, placing the lushy bushes as cover between herself and the archers. Standard to cast, Move to move Murderous Command on middle archer. DC is still 15, 4 rounds left of Dark Self. Note: Despite having no visible components (emotion + thought vs verbal + somatic) psychic magic can still be detected (standard Spellcraft roll to figure out what spell, just as normal). It is really funny to poke the poor bandits without them knowing anything, but it could probably turn really op really quick. Just a quick heads-up : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 1 Laillei instinctively pulled upon the darker corners of her psyche, letting the power of questionable origin flow trough her. The rush of power was exhilarating; the promises of power well fulfilled. Mentally reaching out she projected their will as a single thought into the mind of one of the bandits. KILL! In the real world, Laillei merely tangled a bit with her belt to unsheathe her longsword. Casting Murderous Command on the bandit behind the leader (as that may hopefully make the bandit leader's life a bit more interesting!). If the grey ones are off-limits for some sneaky tricks, Laillei will target the leftmost bandit in combat with us instead. The DC is 15. Laillei has 5 rounds of Dark Self left
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
With a small nod Laillei at Bart Laillei thanks for the drink. A duel might be an entertaining watch, if nothing else. She repeats the nod for Yue, seeing as it was only courteous. And another newcommer? Hmm. I wonder if that maniac with an axe came along this way too!
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Entering the small tavern is a pale elf clad in a purple dress, a fine armour of darkened leather and an armour of contempt. One hand rests on her belt, near the longsword that somehow appears woefully out of place. The other hand alternates between weighting her purse and clutching it hard as if the mere act of being in a tavern risked its disappearance. Which, to be fair, it probably did. She managed to keep her look of professional disinterest and superiority until she spotted the innkeeper. It took her a while to tear her eyes off the drow, but once she did she merely sighed and shrugged. Kyonin is a long while away. Both for him and me I guess ... Sitting down at one of the corner tables, she tried to figure out which one of the patrons that where the one the farmer had told her about; the one that could craft some magic - for a price of course. And if the drow innkeeper would serve her kind. Basically: Elaborate dot :P
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Yeah, to her (and mine) understanding, one of us have to faint for the other to win. And the two threats left are the obelisk and Prim, both conveniently located just next to each other ... And I don't think we are ready to go full hunger-games yet : ) "Magic... it truly awesome." Laillei notes from her vantage point ontop of the pile of loot. "And there seems to be time for an awesome display of it!" With a slow dramatic sweep, she plucked the last bead of the necklace. Some parts of her balked at it, but she couldn't help but provide Prim some sort of warning. I am a destroyer, deceiver and mindbender, but not a backstabber! With a quick salute she flung the large bead at Prim and the obelisk. Standard action throw large bead at Prim + Obelisk. Let's see what defences it has : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Spiders ... Laillei looks upon the creepy crawly things with disgust. She plucks the other small bead and flings it at the swarm closest to her. It *seems* as if the best course of action for either of us to just throw the big bead at eachother ... But I'm a bit curious as to see what the obelisk does (and it would feel sorta bad to backstab Prim, even if that is what we are supposed to do :P)
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Clambering up on the pile of treasure, Laillei is very keen on avoiding the lava. With rope in hand, she glances to the side and the KO'd Bob. It would seem as if there are only two of us now... I am guessing something bad is going to happen (to me or maybe everyone? )from Prim getting all touchey with the obelisk. I'm intrigued as to see *what* and it may affect my action! Otherwise ...: @Gm: I think I'd like to ready an action to throw the rope on Prim when she moves, unless additional foes/complications sets in. In which case I'll throw fire beads at them instead :D
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Yes, potions ..." Laillei agrees and eyes the pool of loot. In fact, she did see a potion earlier ... And she tries to return to it. But first she sheaths her sword (she doubts she could win with it against either of the two others left!) and picks up the rope again. @GM: That delicious potion of See Invisibility might be handy : )
But if we want to simply disregard Bob, that is fine too.
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
"Wait!" Laillei shouts at the axe-murderer still blissfully far away. Momentarily she steps out of the skeletons reach, dropping her rope and drawing the necklace instead. "Let us cooperate; we need to find the vanishing one and not kingmake him. If we annihilate eachother, he will win..." @GM: Of course, *if* she helps me, she might choose to go in melee with our little hider. And then ... BOOM!
Actions: 5-foot step away from skelly, free: drop rope, (move: draw necklace), standard ready action Ready Action: Throw Big Bead at Prim if she says declines the offer or moves to attack. Else throw small bead behind skeleton (so that it burns the skelly but hopefully not Laillei. Trying to gauge explosion size based on Prim's throw) Sense Motive @Prim: 1d20 ⇒ 2 It is an attempt, at least : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
It seems as if we have entered sudden death mode now in the arena. But if feels sorta bad to fling a big bead of fire on poor Prim (especially now when I know she probably has one too - and how they react to fire ...) without giving her a shot ... And then just get stabbed by our invisible friend. Hmm. Maaaaybe we can arrange a truce. Hmmmmm.... I need to think a bit and grab lunch, then I'll come back and post : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Curses! Laillei swears under her breath, seeing as the axe-berzerker seems to abandon the battle with the skeletons. She had hoped that the invisible stalker would have made his presence known by now, so that she could play them out against eachother. Instead, I'm left with these mindless things ... To Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 She quickly circles the treasure pile to put it between herself and one of the skeletons, while telekinetically flinging a projectile made out of a ball of coins at the other skeleton. Sadly, the ball disintegrates into a harmless rain of pennies halfway trough its trajectory. Laillei curses again, this time over her poor choice of ammunition. Actions: Move action to move, Standard action to cast Telekinetic Projectile at the rightmost skeleton
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 8 Unassailed for the moment Laillei pulls out a long rope from the treasure hoard. @GM: I think picking it up takes up her standard action, but if not she'll use that one for 'Ready Action': "Whenever anything scary comes near her - or Bob pops up again - command rope to entangle them"
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
I think I'll hold on to my achievement of slaying that goblin thank you very much :P And since Bob is now available and has a wide range of actions available, I think I better wait and see what happens this turn! edit: @GM:
She'll move up to that rope however, I'll move her on the map! edit2: Ohh she is already moved. Never mind : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
AoO: 1d20 ⇒ 8 Laillei sweeps at the gobunnylin as it bounces past her, but being distracted (and a poor swordfighter to start with!) the cheap shot missed. Round 7 The task at hand - the undying goblin before her - weighted heavy on her. And now it stabbed her too! "Why *whack* won't *whack* you *whack* diiiiiie!" Attack Roll: 1d20 ⇒ 18 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 3 Assuming that is enough damage to kill the goblin ... :P More satisfied that she wanted to admit over the defeat of the pesky goblin, Laillei took a short moment to enjoy her triumph. It is sweet. With a side of 'ouch!' With a hand clutching her wound, she heads towards the treasurepile while keeping an wary eye on the skeleton, ogre and axewielder. Actions: Standard to whack, move to move (if goblin is finally dead!) @Gm: Aiming for the rope, but if that is too close to the fight at the south, she'll go for something at random (or the potion, if possible?)
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 6 Fortitude: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 Woho! Not rabbit! To Hit: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17 Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Invigorated by the fact that she had not been turned into a bunny, Laillei stabs the goblin that was still a goblin with her sword! Unfortunately, the goblin seemed unfazed. Dancing away from the still-goblin she stepped over the bunny-goblin, hoping that it might distract her foe. Small chance ... Actions: Standard to attack then 5-foot step
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Assuming Laillei is not stabbed to death by invisible ninjas just yet ... :P Round 5 With an annoyed grunt, Laillei steps away from the goblins momentarily. Just enough time! She focuses intently and flicks with her empty hand at the western-most goblin. In response the debris littering the arena rises up and slashes the goblin. To Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 Confirmation: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Crit Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Actions: 5-foot step out of threatened area, standard action to cast (targeting the goblin no longer in combat) Spellcraft 15/GM: Spell is Telekinetic Projectile (ranged attack roll @close range for (B)1d6 damage)
Note: Not a touch attack
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
@GM: Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Probably looking for easy-to-use magic items such as orbs or potions. A weapon isn't really Laillei's forte and picking up a wand or a staff only to find out she can't activate it would be a bother : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 4 With a pained grin, Laillei forced herself back to normal. She would need all her senses to figure out a way from this one. Unpleasant. Most unpleasant! Concentration (DC 11): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 She decides that the first course of action would be to put more bodies between her and the murderous woman with the axe, not to mention the ogre. Repositioning she puts the goblin between her and them and takes a defensive swipe at the small critter. To Hit: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (17) - 4 = 13 OOhh. Maybe a hit? Do you get flanking on such a crooked angle? Hmm I don't remember... Damage?: 1d8 ⇒ 1 Actions - 5 foot step, Standard action to fight defensively
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 3 Time to sow some discord! Finally the cocoon of stone fades away and Laillei emerges again. She strides towards the treasure trove with confidence. The brief time away from the fight seems to have change the elf - the polite neutrality of her expression have given way for murderous glee and a grin far to wide and toothy to be real. Her shadow has grown longer and jagged, crawling not from but against the light, and when the unmistakable tinge of magic pollutes again it reaches out towards one of the goblins clawing with insubstantial fingers. DC 16 Spellcraft/GM:
Spell is Murderous Command Stopping concentration, swift action to activate Dark Self (+2 will, immune to fear, +1 DC on spells & damaging spells deal 1 bleed), move action to move south/southeast, standard action to Cast spell on the goblin on the top left corner of the treasure pile (first one straight to the right of Laillei
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 2 One missing. Laillei noted coldly. An invisible opponent was bad news, seeing as ... well she couldn't see him. However, nothing had tried to disrupt her walls so that was good. Let's observe what happens next - our action must be in accordance! Maintain concentration and plot... @GM: Don't worry, she'll actually do stuff as soon as there is some chaos for her to work with (and hopefully her enemies being too tied up to simply walk over and smack her :P).
I suspect there are going to be some nice chaos as soon as someone pokes the loot pile : )
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Probably. But if you really want, I can play the other characters too... Totally other characters wrote: "Why yes Laillei you are so awesome and cool that we'll kill the skeletons and the ogre for you and then fall on our swords. No sweat!" See :P? Totally fine ^^ Right ...?
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Round 1 The pale elf strides a bit closer to the treasure pile too, careful to keep her eyes both on the ogre and - trying to at least - the other two humanoid participants. Without sound nor gesture she summons a tell-tale glow of magic and in response, with the same eerie silence, a wall of stone rises around her and seals her from the other participants for the moment. Spellcraft DC 16:
It feels like a Silent Image spell! Actions: Move to move 30', Standard action to cast spell. The squares adjacent Laillei are now taken up by a stone wall @GM: The spell is Silent Image. The DC to disbelieve is 15, if it is interacted with.
I'm not sure if studying the pile is an action or not (the others seem to have taken only a single move [and a swift]). If it isn't, here is Laillei's perception roll! Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 And some more skill rolls, if they are relevant :P Know(Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 Know(Planes): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Linguistics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Indeed, fun we will have. An arena styled encounter is a new experience (for pbp's at least!) and it will be interesting to see how it goes. If I manage to play Laillei's card right, she might actually do surprisingly well. But winning would certainly come down to if there are something nice in the pile ... Hmm : ) Also, how do you feel about opening a proper discussion thread? I mean this one does work perfectly well - and it is just a short short campaign - but I have clicked the 'discussion' tab several times today already expecting to end up in this thread. I might just be dense though :P Also! Anything discernible about the Obelisk? Know(Planes): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20 Know(Arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
hp 20/20 | AC 15 13 12 | Fort +2 Ref +4 Will +3 | CMD 14 | Perception +8; low-light vision
Earlier Guaranteed payout for just a little pain? Laillei mused. The offer sounded almost too good. I would be banking, of course, on the Gorumites keeping their end. And not screwing up an resurrection... After taking a few moments to evaluate her options, the pale elf grinned. "I agree. And sign me up for the insurance." Beats fortune telling, at least... Arena The pale elf in a purple dress and dark leather armour surveys the scene from her corner of the ring. The skeletons are a bother. But the Ogre could be helpful, with just a little nudge ... Biting her lip she considered her options and weighted the longsword in her hands. And then there is the obelisk ... Hmm. Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
